The present paper describes the development and testing of an efficient single-glass air solar collector with an absorber plate made of recyclable aluminum cans (RAC). This collector was designed as a proposal to use recycle recyclable materials to build absorber plates of air solar collectors at an acceptable cost. The absorber plate of the collector consisted of eight circular cross section air flow channels of 128 recyclable aluminium cans. Each channel was built with 16 recyclable cans blackened with common opaque black paint of 0.903 absorptance and 0.097 reflectance. The design parameters to determine the size of the collector were obtained by implementing a simulation model for double flow air solar collectors. Also, to determine the appropriate configuration for a uniform air flow distribution inside the eight RAC air channels, a hydrodynamic numerical study was carried out. The RAC air solar collector designed and built was tested outdoors following the ASHRAE 93-86 standard to determine the time constant, the thermal efficiency and the incidence angle modifier. Comparison between the predicted theoretical temperatures and the measured ones were in good agreement. Comparison between the thermal efficiency of the RAC air solar collector with the ones reported in the literature is presented.  相似文献

There are various types of solar water heater system available in the commercial market to fulfill different customers’ demand, such as flat plate collector, concentrating collector, evacuated tube collector and integrated collector storage. A cost effective cum easy fabricated V-trough solar water heater system using forced circulation system is proposed. Integrating the solar absorber with the easily fabricated V-trough reflector can improve the performance of solar water heater system. In this paper, optical analysis, experimental study and cost analysis of the stationary V-trough solar water heater system are presented in details. The experimental result has shown very promising results in both optical efficiency of V-trough reflector and the overall thermal performance of the solar water heater.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of a solar photovoltaic-thermal (hybrid) system consisting of a flat-plate solar air heater mounted with solar cells and a plane booster. A conventional flat-plate collector is converted into a hybrid system by mounting solar cells directly on the absorber plate. A hybrid system is self-sufficient in the sense that the electrical energy required by the pump is supplied by the panel. Such systems are well suited to applications such as solar drying. The combined system is analysed for the case when the radiative and absorptive properties of the cell surface and the absorber plate are nearly the same. The solar cell efficiency is a linearly-decreasing function of the absorber plate temperature. The performance of the system has been evaluated for various combinations of boosters. The minimum area of the solar cells required to run the pump at a given flow rate has been calculated as a function of time, with and without boosters. The minimum cell area required decreases with the use of boosters. High cost cells may be replaced by low cost reflectors. The solar air heaters presently available on the market are not suitable for direct conversion to hybrid systems.  相似文献

Thermal performance of a novel minichannel-based solar collector is investigated numerically. The particular collector consists of a U-shaped flat-tube absorber with a selective coating on its external surface. The working fluid flows inside an array of minichannels located in the cross-section of the absorber along its length. The absorber is enclosed in an evacuated-glass envelope to minimize convective losses. Performance and pressure drop are evaluated for different inlet temperatures and flow rates of the working fluid. Thermal performance of minichannel-based solar collector is compared to that of an evacuated tube collector without minichannels from the literature. Configurations with and without a concentrator are analyzed.  相似文献

Details of the design and development of an inexpensive solar collector system which does not make use of a blackened metal plate as an absorber are given in this paper. A spiral-shaped plastic tube coated with a black paint constitutes the solar absorber. Unlike other flat plate collectors, the working fluid moves through a spiral path in this collector. As the liquid moves progressively towards the centre, its temperature gradually rises and in the process it absorbs a part of the heat transferred radially from the centre of the collector, thus reducing heat losses.  相似文献

The objective of this work is to theoretically and experimentally investigate the flow and temperature distribution in a solar collector panel with an absorber consisting of horizontally inclined strips. Fluid flow and heat transfer in the collector panel are studied by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations. Further, experimental investigations of a 12.5 m2 solar collector panel with 16 parallel connected horizontal fins are carried out. The flow distribution through the absorber is evaluated by means of temperature measurements on the backside of the absorber tubes. The measured temperatures are compared to the temperatures determined by the CFD model and there is a good similarity between the measured and calculated results.

Calculations with the CFD model elucidate the flow and temperature distribution in the collector. The influences of different operating conditions such as flow rate, properties of solar collector fluid, solar collector fluid inlet temperature and collector tilt angle are shown. The flow distribution through the absorber fins is uniform if high flow rates are used. By decreased flow rate and decreased content of glycol in the glycol/water mixture used as solar collector fluid, and by increased collector tilt and inlet temperature, the flow distribution gets worse resulting in an increased risk of boiling in the upper part of the collector panel.  相似文献

The thermal heat performance of a solar air collector depends strongly on the thermal heat loss and the efficiency factor. In order to increase these performances, it is necessary to use a solar air collector which is well insulated and where the fluid flow is fully developed turbulent flow. It needs a high heat transfer between the absorber plate and the fluid to decrease the absorber‐plate temperature and hence the heat loss by radiation from the absorber to the ambient. This increases the efficiency factor. In the present paper, the heat loss and efficiency factor are treated for solar air collectors with selective and nonselective absorber plate. It is shown that the selectivity of the absorber plate cannot play an important role in a well‐insulated solar collector with a fanned system which permits a fully developed turbulent flow and, in consequence, high heat transfer. A sealed space between absorber and cover glass in a flat plate solar collector makes it possible to reduce the influence of humidity condensate and dust at the same time as the enclosed space can be filled with a suitable gas for lowering the heat losses. This article describes the influence of different gases on the heat losses in a typical flat plate solar collector. A model of a gas-filled flat plate solar collector was built in Matlab with standard heat transfer formulas. The results show that the overall heat loss can be reduced by up to 20% when changing from air to an inert gas. It is further possible to reduce the distance between absorber and cover in order to reduce the mechanical stresses in the material with similar heat losses.  相似文献

The impact of the optical properties on the annual performance of flat plate collectors in a Swedish climate has been estimated with the MINSUN program. The collector parameters were determined with a theoretically based calculation program verified from laboratory measurements. The importance of changes in solar absorptance and thermal emittance of the absorber, the addition of a teflon film or a teflon honeycomb, antireflection treatment of the cover glazing and combinations of these improvements were investigated. The results show that several improvements can be achieved for solar thermal absorbers. A combined increase in absorptance from 0.95 to 0.97 and a decrease in emittance from 0.10 to 0.05 increase the annual performance with 6.7% at 50 °C operating temperature. The increase in performance by installing a teflon film as second glazing was estimated to 5.6% at 50 °C. If instead a teflon honeycomb is installed, a twice as high performance increase is obtained, 12.1%. Antireflection treatment of the cover glazing increases the annual output with 6.5% at 50 °C. A combination of absorber improvements together with a teflon honeycomb and an antireflection treated glazing results in a total increase of 24.6% at 50 °C. Including external booster reflectors increases the expected annual output at 50 °C to 19.9–29.4% depending on reflector material.  相似文献

Polymers have been proven to be high potential low-cost materials for the design and mass production not only for ordinary solar water heaters but also for very simple large size, modular solar collectors, suitable for easy erection of large solar heating plants. Their major drawback for solar–thermal conversion applications is their low thermal conductivity, which prohibits their use unless an appropriate absorber design is employed. The low thermal conductivity of polymers has imposed the need of a particular absorber design, which is basically composed of a pair of dark, closely spaced parallel plates at the top of which solar radiation is absorbed, forming a thin channel for the flow of the heat transfer fluid. The aim of the present work is to investigate the particular limitations of this polymer plate absorber design, for a wide range of collector loss and convective heat transfer coefficients between heat transfer fluid and absorber plate. The aim is also to calculate the particular collector efficiency factors and conditions under which the associated collector performance parameters should be modified to account for the finite absorber plate conductance. This conductance was proven to be another decisive absorber design parameter, improper selection of which may probably lead to strong deterioration of the collector efficiency.  相似文献

An effort has been devoted to analyze the collector performance parameters of a solar-assisted LiBr/H2O vapor absorption cooling system with a flat-plate collector consisting of an absorber plate of different profiles. The effect of the collector fluid inlet temperature on the performance of solar collector, vapor absorption cycle, vapor absorption system and refrigerating efficiency has been studied for a wide range of design variables. A comparative study has also been made among the performance parameters of an absorber plate of different shapes with the variation of collector fluid inlet temperature. From the result, it can be highlighted that, at a particular collector fluid inlet temperature, the performances of a vapor absorption system attain a maximum value. Finally, an optimum collector fluid inlet temperature is determined by satisfying the minimization of volume of an absorber plate without affecting the cooling rate in the evaporator.  相似文献

An indirect forced circulation solar water heating systems using a flat-plate collector is modeled for domestic hot water requirements of a single-family residential unit in Montreal, Canada. All necessary design parameters are studied and the optimum values are determined using TRNSYS simulation program. The solar fraction of the entire system is used as the optimization parameter. Design parameters of both the system and the collector were optimized that include collector area, fluid type, collector mass flow rate, storage tank volume and height, heat exchanger effectiveness, size and length of connecting pipes, absorber plate material and thickness, number and size of the riser tubes, tube spacing, and the collector’s aspect ratio. The results show that by utilizing solar energy, the designed system could provide 83-97% and 30-62% of the hot water demands in summer and winter, respectively. It is also determined that even a locally made non-selective-coated collector can supply about 54% of the annual water heating energy requirement by solar energy.  相似文献

A mathematical model for computing the thermal performance of a single pass flat-plate solar air collector is presented. Air channels were formed by providing metal slats running along the circulated air passage linking the absorber plate by the bottom one in an endeavor to enhance the thermal efficiency of the solar air collector. A mathematical model, therefore, is developed by which the influence of the addition of the metal slats on the efficiency of the solar collector is studied. A computer code that employs an iterative solution procedure is constructed to solve for the governing energy equations to estimate the mean temperatures of the collector. The effect of volume airflow rate, collector length, and spacing between the absorber and bottom plates on the thermal performance of the present solar air heater was investigated. Furthermore, a numerical comparison of the present design with the most common type of solar air heaters is conducted. The results of the comparison have indicated that better thermal performance was obtained by the modified system.  相似文献

A dynamic simulation program for a flat-plate solar collector has been developed and used for a parametric sensitivity study of the collector. A computer simulation language, C.S.M.P., was used for the simultaneous solution of the differential equations describing the system. The program is developed from basic principles and defined parameters, so that the effect of each element of the collector on its efficiency and outlet fluid temperature can be analyzed. The dynamic simulation program was validated by comparing calculated with actual test results on a commercial flat-plate solar collector; the agreement between the results was found to be very good.Sensitivity studies were carried out to determine the effect of the following parameters on the performance of a single-glazed solar collector: heat transfer coefficient between absorber plate and fluid transport tubes; fluid flow rate through the collector; plate absorptivity; plate emissivity and insulation thickness. Sensitivity studies were also performed on a double-glazed solar collector but for only the last three of the above listed parameters. The results of these sensitivity studies are analyzed in the text. The transient behavior of the solar collector, viz. the response of the outlet fluid temperature to a step change in insolation rate, has also been studied.  相似文献

The use of PV/T in combination with concentrating reflectors has a potential to significantly increase power production from a given solar cell area. A prototype double-pass photovoltaic-thermal solar air collector with CPC and fins has been designed and fabricated and its performance over a range of operating conditions was studied. The absorber of the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector under investigation consists of an array of solar cells for generating electricity, compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to increase the radiation intensity falling on the solar cells and fins attached to the back side of the absorber plate to improve heat transfer to the flowing air. Energy balance equations have been developed for the various nodes of the system. Both thermal and electrical performance of the collector are presented and discussed.  相似文献

In this communication, a heat transfer model to predict the transient behaviour of a suspended flat plate solar collector with constant flow of fluid (air) above the absorber has been presented. A reflecting sheet with an air gap between the absorber plate and bottom insulation to reduce heat loss has been used. The effect, on performance of the air heater, of the parameters viz, spacing between cover and plate, heat capacity of air and absorber plate, flow rate of fluid and collector length have been studied. The effect of changing the averaging inlet temperature with varying collector length has also been studied.  相似文献

The effect of varying individual parameters on the overall performance and feasibility of a solar hot water system has been investigated by a mathematic model which employs the concept of a decay constant and feasibility factor. TRNSYS results were used as inputs to apply the model. Parameters investigated include emittance of the collector plate, collector plate absorptance, transmittance absorptance product, storage tank set temperature, mass flow rate, load, and ratio of tank volume to collector area. It was found that the model is a useful tool for solar system design. Specific examples are detailed for illustration purposes.  相似文献

A concentrated solar absorber with finned phase change materials was experimentally studied using a Scheffler type parabolic dish concentrator. The absorber's inner surface was fixed with hollow cylindrical containers filled with phase change material (PCM) for heat transfer augmentation. The absorber's selected PCM was acetanilide (Melting point of 116 °C)—the cylindrical capsules protruding into the fluid side to create turbulence and mixing and acting as fins. The absorber surface temperature was observed to be about 130–150 °C during the outdoor tests while passing fluid through the absorber. The fluid flow rate varied from 60 to 100 kg/h during the outdoor experiments. The peak energy and exergy efficiency of parabolic dish collector (PDC) at the fluid flow rate of 80 kg/h with PCM integrated solar absorber was found to be about 67.88% and 6.96%, respectively. The integration of cylindrical PCM containers resulted in more heat transfer augmentation in the solar absorbers. The optimized solar absorber could be suitable for various applications like steam generation, biomass gasification, space heating, and hydrogen generation.  相似文献

Energy analysis of a solar air collector with rows of fins   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The necessity for improving the thermal performances of the solar air collector, for some needs, encouraged us to carry out this study. Initially, to improve the efficiency factor of these solar collectors, we create an increasingly turbulent flow between the absorber and the back wooden plate. For that, we use obstacles of various forms. In this study, we chose rectangular plate fins inserted perpendicular to the flow. The fluid flows out through the interstices between fins in the same row, this allows a good distribution of the fluid and reduces the dead zones. Secondly, and for the same configuration, we undertake a study on the evaluation of the transfer coefficient. The results are compared with those obtained with a solar air collector without fins, using two types of absorbers selective (in coppersun) or not selective (black-painted aluminium).  相似文献

The low thermophysical characteristics of air used as a heat transfer fluid in the solar collectors with thermal conversion require a fully developed turbulent flow. This increases the thermal heat transfer between the absorber plate and the fluid, which clearly improves the thermal performances of the solar collector with obstacles arranged into the air channel duct. In the present work, we introduce, in solar collector, the offset rectangular plate fins, which are used in heat exchangers. An experimental investigation carried out showed the generated enhancement of thermal performance. The offset rectangular plate fins, mounted in staggered pattern, are oriented parallel to the fluid flow and are soldered to the underside of absorber plate. They are characterized by high heat transfer area per unit volume. High thermal performances are obtained with low pressure losses and in consequence a low electrical power consumption by the fan in comparison to the flat plate collector. The experimental results are all so compared by using two types of transparent cover; double and triple.  相似文献
