Twenty-five 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes, four phenanthrenes, a dihydrodibenzoxepin, and a pyrene, isolated from the wetland plant Juncus acutus, were tested to detect their effects on the green alga Selenastrum capricornutum. Nine of the compounds were isolated and identified for the first time. Most of the compounds caused inhibition of algal growth. The 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes 1, 5, 21, and 22 were the most active.  相似文献

Forty-nine secondary metabolites were isolated from aqueous and alcoholic extracts of the aquatic plant Shoenoplectus lacustris. All compounds were characterized based on spectroscopic data. Eleven free and glycosylated low-molecular polyphenols, 17 cinnamic acid and dihydrocinnamic acid derivatives, 11 flavonoids, and 10 C13 nor-isoprenoids were identified. The structure of the new compound, 1-benzoyl-glycerol-2-α-l-arabinopyranoside, was elucidated by 2D NMR experiments (COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY). To evaluate potential phytotoxic effects, all compounds were tested on the green alga Selenastrum capricornutum, a unicellular organism commonly used in tests of toxicity as a bioindicator of eutrophic sites. The most active compound was (−)-catechin, showing an inhibition similar to that of the algaecide CuSO4.  相似文献

Five cuticular chemical components isolated from the green leaves of tobacco introductions (TIs) and a commercial tobacco cultivar were tested for their effects on tobacco budworm,Heliothis virescens (F), oviposition in cage bioassays, and field experiments. These chemicals were sprayed onto budworm-resistant TI 1112 tobacco which produces low levels of most cuticular components. Individual duvane diterpenes (- and -4,8,13-duvatrien-1-ols and - and -4,8,13-duvatriene-1,3-diols) increased tobacco budworm egg laying on sprayed TI 1112 plants.cis-Abienol, docosanol, and docosanyl myristate were inactive.Mention of a company or proprietary product does not imply endorsement or recommendation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Five pot experiments were conducted with wheat and rice in a net house to study the effect of lime nitrogen (LN, contains about 55% calcium cyanamide) amendment rates on the efficiency of urea, the recovery urea-15N, the efficiency of the three nitrogen fertilizers(NF), on the efficiency of urea in the three soils, and on NO 3 - -N leaching from a flooded soil. A rate of LN-N of 5–8% of applied fertilizer N increased the recovery of labeled urea-N by 9.42%. The effect of LN on the efficiency of NF was urea > ammonium sulfate > ammonium chloride. Under flooded conditions, LN decreased NO 3 - formation and leaching.Responses of several crops to LN amended fertilizers were also studied in field experiments. At equal NPK applications, the efficiency of basal applications to rice, wheat, corn, potatoes, soybean, peanut, grapes, peaches, melon and watermelon were bette r with LN than without. Efficiency with a basal fertilizer for rice or wheat with LN were the same as with the same fertilizer without LN applied in split applications.  相似文献

Land hermit crab responses to volatile shell-investigation cues from land hermit crabs and from marine hermit crabs are analogous to the responses of marine hermit crabs to shell-investigation cues from marine crabs and from snails. Land hermit crabs attracted to shell cues are in worse-fitting shells and are more likely to investigate conspecifics' shells than are crabs attracted to feeding cues. Moving land hermit crabs from worse shells to better shells decreases the number of crabs investigating shells, while moving crabs from better shells to worse shells increases the number of crabs investigating shells. Gravid females have better-fitting shells than nongravid females or males. Crabs from two different populations in Panama have different shell fits and show different levels of responses to shell-investigation cues. Land hermit crabs respond to volatile shell-investigation cues from both land and marine hermit crabs, but marine hermit crabs do not respond to cues from land hermit crabs. A cue detection system for volatile cues most likely evolved in land hermit crabs during their transition from a marine to a terrestrial existence. Thus, the cues found in land hermit crabs and marine hermit crabs may be chemically similar. Volatile compounds collected from hermit crabs onto Tenax columns can be eluted with ethanol and act as shell-investigation cues in field assays.  相似文献

Securidaca longepedunculata Fers (Polygalaceae) is commonly used as a traditional medicine in many parts of Africa as well as against a number of invertebrate pests, including insects infesting stored grain. The present study showed that S. longepedunculata root powder, its methanol extract, and the main volatile component, methyl salicylate, exhibit repellent and toxic properties to Sitophilus zeamais adults. Adult S. zeamais that were given a choice between untreated maize and maize treated with root powder, extract, or synthetic methyl salicylate in a four-way choice olfactometer significantly preferred the control maize. Methyl salicylate vapor also had a dose-dependant fumigant effect against S. zeamais, Rhyzopertha dominica, and Prostephanus truncates, with a LD100 achieved with a 60 l dose in a 1-l container against all three insect species after 24 hr of exposure. Probit analyses estimated LD50 values between 34 and 36 l (95% CI) for all insect species. Furthermore, prolonged exposure for 6 days showed that lower amounts (30 l) of methyl salicylate vapor were able to induce 100% adult mortality of the three insect species. The implications are discussed in the context of improving stored product pest control by small-scale subsistence farmers in Africa.  相似文献

Nothofagus species from Chile and New Zealand were surveyed in the field for invertebrate abundance and leaf feeding damage and in the laboratory for antifeedant activity against leafrollers (Ctenopsteustis obliquana, Epiphyas postvittana), deterrent activity against pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), insect growth regulatory activity (Oncopeltus fasciatus), nematicidal activity (Caenorhabditis elegans), antibiotic activity (Pseudomonas solanaciarium), and general toxicity. A data matrix indicated that N. alessandri and N. pumilio most likely have a chemical barrier to insect attack as leaves showed low faunal abundance, low herbivory, and activity in the leafroller antifeedant, aphid deterrent, and nematicidal assays. A chemical examination of N. alessandri that used the leafroller antifeedant test to guide the separation yielded an active fraction containing the flavonoid, galangin, and the stilbene, pinosylvin, which appear to act in concert to deter leafroller feeding. The discovery of the phytoalexin, pinosylvin, in the leaves, raises the possibility that Nothofagus in general, and N. alessandri in particular, may have induced chemical defense mechanisms.  相似文献

The behavioral and physiological effects of plant allelochemicals have been difficult to demonstrate; it is not often clear whether the compounds are deterrent, toxic, or both. In this study, we compared the qualitative and quantitative effects of several iridoid glycosides on a generalist lepidopteran herbivore,Spodoptera eridania (Noctuidae). Larval growth and survivorship and larval preference or avoidance were measured on artificial diets containing different iridoid glycosides at different concentrations. We also tested the toxicity/deterrence of these compounds. We found that iridoid glycosides retarded larval growth significantly at relatively low concentrations and that they were usually avoided in preference tests. The toxicity/ deterrence test did not always reflect the results of these other tests. The merits of using a variety of methods for determining deterrence and/or toxicity of plant allelochemicals are discussed.  相似文献

2,4-Dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazin-3-one (DIMBOA), a hydroxamic acid involved in the resistance of cereals to aphids, was administered to adult individuals of the aphid Sitobion avenae in artificial diets. Effects on the cellular metabolism were inferred from the evaluation of several organelle marker enzymes. Catalase from peroxisomes and cytochrome c oxidase from mitochondria increased their activities about twofold when aphids were fed with 2 mM DIMBOA. The role of these enzymes in the metabolizing of xenobiotics by aphids is discussed. Biochemical and cytochemical evidences for the presence of peroxisomes in aphids are reported here for the first time.  相似文献

Experimental investigation made previously on microbiological leaching of nickel and cobalt from the laterite nickel ore of Sukinda Valley reveals that the recovery was not very much promising under any favorable conditions. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency for bioleaching, the homogenized lateritic ore in palletized form is thermally pretreated by roasting at different temperatures. The parameters studied for the bioleaching experiments were the four types of pretreated ore which were roasted at different temperatures, i.e., 300 °C, 400 °C, 600 °C and 800 °C, in shake flask by using a mixed mesophilic acidophilic bacterial consortium consisting predominantly of the Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans strain. It was observed that the pretreated ore at 600 °C with 10% (w/v) pulp density showed maximum recovery of nickel and cobalt, i.e., 59.18% (4.556 ppm) and 65.09% (0.546 ppm), using 10% (v/v) (2.5 × 108 cells/ml) consortium concentration at 1.5 pH, 30 °C, and 150 rpm after an incubation period of 31 days.  相似文献

The effect of combined inputs of green manure (GM) and urea on maize (Zea mays L.) productivity and soil characteristics was studied in an on-farm trial at Wondo Genet, southern Ethiopia. The GM species used were the legumes Albizia gummifera G.F. Gmel and Milletia ferruginea (Hochst.) Baker and the non-legumes Cordia africana Lam and Croton macrostachyus Del. The GM and urea were applied separately or combined in different proportions to give equal rates of 100 kg N ha−1, while varying amounts of P and K were supplied by the GM. The experiment was carried out for two consecutive cropping seasons, but treatments were applied only during the first season. Yield increased by 10–84% in the combined treatments compared to the control, with the increase being significant in those treatments containing GM from Cordia and Croton, which had higher P and K but lower N and total polyphenol contents than those from Albizia and Milletia. Increasing the proportion of GM from the non-legumes tended to increase yield, but the opposite was true when the proportion of GM from the legumes was increased. This suggests that N interacted negatively with polyphenols, and/or the P and K supply from GM was more important than that of N. However, treatment effects on soil properties were not pronounced. It was concluded that a ȁ8modestȁ9 input of ≤3.0 Mg ha−1 GM from Cordia/Croton might effect a reasonable yield but that the additional use of inorganic fertilisers is necessary for the GM to have a substantially increased effect. In addition, when organic materials having both high N and high total polyphenol contents (e.g. Albizia and Milletia) are used, they should constitute the smaller proportion of the GM/fertiliser mixture.  相似文献

The present work addresses the influence of microwave irradiation on undoped and doped vanadium phosphate catalysts. These catalysts were prepared via VOPO4 · 2H2O. The catalyst’s precursors‚ VOHPO4 · 0.5H2O were subjected to microwave irradiation and comparison was made with the conventional heating. The interaction of these complex materials with microwave and the addition of several doponts (Nb, Bi, Co, Mo) provide interesting improvements in catalyst preparation found to be a faster, develop higher surface area, higher activity and selectivity for the oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride. All the catalysts were characterized by using a combination of powder XRD, H2-TPR, BET surface area and SEM.  相似文献

The effect of extraction procedures on the lipid yield and fatty acid composition of total lipid and main lipid structures (phospholipids, diacylglycerols, triacylglycerols, free fatty acids, and sterol esters) of fungal biomass (Mucor mucedo CCF-1384) containing γ-linolenic acid (GLA) was investigated. Seventeen extraction methods, divided into three groups, were tested: six with chloroform/methanol, five with hexane/alcohols, and six with common solvents or mixtures. The chloroform/methanol procedure (2∶1) was selected as standard, where lipid yield (TL/DCW, total lipid per dry cell weight) was 17.8%, considered to be 100% of lipids present. All chloroform/methanol extractions yielded more than 83% recorvey of lipids. Use of hexane/isopropanol solvent systems led to a maximum of 75% recovery. The best lipid yield was achieved by a two-step extraction with ethanol and hexane (120%). Extraction efficiency of the other solvent systems reached a maximum of 73%. Triacylglycerols were the main structures of lipid isolated; only methanol-extracted lipid contained 58.5% phospholipids. The fatty acid content of total recovered lipid was variable and depended on both the lipid class composition and the solvent system. GLA concentrations in total lipids isolated by hexane/alcohol procedures (7.3–10.7%) are comparable with classical chloroform/methanol systems (6.5–10.0%). The maximal GLA yield was obtained with chloroform/methanol/n-butanol/water/0.1 M ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) (2∶1∶1∶1∶0.1, by vol) and after two-step extraction with ethanol and hexane (14.3 and 13.7 g GLA/kg DCW, respectively). The highest GLA content was analyzed in the phospholipid fraction (16.1%) after using chloroform/methanol/n-butanol/water/0.1 M EDTA (2∶1∶1∶1∶0.1, by vol). Remarkably low concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids were determined in the free fatty acid fraction.  相似文献

Response of maleHeliothis subflexa to pheromone-baited traps containing blends of tetradecanal, (Z)-9-tetradecanal, hexadecanal, (Z)-7-hexadecenal, (Z)-9-hexadecenal, (Z)-11-hexadecenal, hexadecan-1-ol acetate, (Z)-7-hexadecen-1-ol acetate, (Z)-9-hexadecen-1-ol acetate, (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol acetate, (Z)-9-hexadecen-1-ol, and (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol was evaluated. Analysis of trap capture data indicated that (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol was a critical component of the pheromone blend. It was determined from emission rate data and measurements of the ratio of pheromone components emitted from rubber septa tested that a significant increase in trap capture of maleH. subflexa occurred when the blends investigated released the alcohol in a narrow range relative to the total amount of pheromone emitted. The optimum range of release ratio of the alcohol for the capture of males in sticky traps was determined to be 0.9–3.5% of the pheromone blend. This release ratio range was reduced to 0.9–1.6% when bucket traps were used.  相似文献
