Redox‐active organic electrode materials have garnered considerable interest as an emerging alternative to currently widespread inorganic‐(or metal)‐based counterparts in lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). Practical use of these materials, however, has posed a challenge due to their electrically insulating nature, limited specific capacity, and poor electrochemical durability. Here, a new class of multiwalled‐carbon‐nanotube‐(MWCNT)‐cored, meso‐tetrakis(4‐carboxyphenyl)porphyrinato cobalt (CoTCPP) is demonstrated as a 1D nanohybrid (denoted as CC‐nanohybrid) strategy to develop an advanced LIB anode. CoTCPP, which is one of the metalloporphyrins having multielectron redox activities, shows strong noncovalent interactions with MWCNTs due to its conjugated π‐bonds, resulting in successful formation of the CC‐nanohybrids. The structural uniqueness of the CC‐nanohybrid facilitates electron transport and electrolyte accessibility, thereby improving their redox kinetics. Inspired by the 1D structure of the CC‐nanohybrid, all‐fibrous nanomat anode sheets are fabricated through concurrent electrospraying/electrospinning processes. The resulting nanomat anode sheets, driven by their 3D bicontinuous ion/electron conduction pathways, provide fast lithiation/delithiation kinetics, eventually realizing the well‐distinguishable lithiation behavior of CoTCPP. Notably, the nanomat anode sheets exhibit exceptional electrochemical performance (≈226 mAh gsheet ?1 and >1500 cycles at 5 C) and mechanical flexibility that lie far beyond those achievable with conventional LIB anode technologies.  相似文献

Despite the high theoretical capacity of Si anodes, the electrochemical performance of Si anodes is hampered by severe volume changes during lithiation and delithiation, leading to poor cyclability and eventual electrode failure. Nanostructured silicon and its nanocomposite electrodes could overcome this problem holding back the deployment of Si anodes in lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) by providing facile strain relaxation, short lithium diffusion distances, enhanced mass transport, and effective electrical contact. Here, the recent progress in nanostructured Si‐based anode materials such as nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanowires, porous Si, and their respective composite materials and fabrication processes in the application of LIBs have been reviewed. The ability of nanostructured Si materials in addressing the above mentioned challenges have been highlighted. Future research directions in the field of nanostructured Si anode materials for LIBs are summarized.  相似文献

Binder plays a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of electrodes in lithium‐ion batteries. However, the existing binders typically exhibit poor stretchability or low conductivity at large strains, which are not suitable for high‐capacity silicon (Si)‐based anodes undergoing severe volume changes during cycling. Herein, a novel stretchable conductive glue (CG) polymer that possesses inherent high conductivity, excellent stretchablity, and ductility is designed for high‐performance Si anodes. The CG can be stretched up to 400% in volume without conductivity loss and mechanical fracture and thus can accommodate the large volume change of Si nanoparticles to maintain the electrode integrity and stabilize solid electrolyte interface growth during cycling while retaining the high conductivity, even with a high Si mass loading of 90%. The Si‐CG anode has a large reversible capacity of 1500 mA h g?1 for over 700 cycles at 840 mA g?1 with a large initial Coulombic efficiency of 80% and high rate capability of 737 mA h g?1 at 8400 mA g?1. Moreover, the Si‐CG anode demonstrates the highest achieved areal capacity of 5.13 mA h cm?2 at a high mass loading of 2 mg cm?2. The highly stretchable CG provides a new perspective for designing next‐generation high‐capacity and high‐power batteries.  相似文献

A unique watermelon‐like structured SiOx–TiO2@C nanocomposite is synthesized by a scalable sol–gel method combined with carbon coating process. Ultrafine TiO2 nanocrystals are uniformly embedded inside SiOx particles, forming SiOx–TiO2 dual‐phase cores, which are coated with outer carbon shells. The incorporation of TiO2 component can effectively enhance the electronic and lithium ionic conductivities inside the SiOx particles, release the structure stress caused by alloying/dealloying of Si component and maximize the capacity utilization by modifying the Si–O bond feature and decreasing the O/Si ratio (x‐value). The synergetic combination of these advantages enables the synthesized SiOx–TiO2@C nanocomposite to have excellent electrochemical performances, including high specific capacity, excellent rate capability, and stable long‐term cycleability. A stable specific capacity of ≈910 mAh g?1 is achieved after 200 cycles at the current density of 0.1 A g?1 and ≈700 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1 for over 600 cycles. These results suggest a great promise of the proposed particle architecture, which may have potential applications in the improvement of various energy storage materials.  相似文献

Practical applications of high gravimetric and volumetric capacity anodes for next‐generation lithium‐ion batteries have attracted unprecedented attentions, but still faced challenges by their severe volume changes, rendering low Coulombic efficiency and fast capacity fading. Nano and void‐engineering strategies had been extensively applied to overcome the large volume fluctuations causing the continuous irreversible reactions upon cycling, but they showed intrinsic limit in fabrication of practical electrode condition. Achieving high electrode density is particularly paramount factor in terms of the commercial feasibility, which is mainly dominated by the true density and tapping density of active material. Herein, based on finite element method calculation, micron‐sized double passivation layered Si/C design is introduced with restrictive lithiation state, which can withstand the induced stress from Li insertion upon repeated cycling. Such design takes advantage in structural integrity during long‐term cycling even at high gravimetric capacity (1400 mAh g?1). In 1 Ah pouch‐type full‐cell evaluation with high mass loading and electrode density (≈3.75 mAh cm?2 and ≈1.65 g cm?3), it demonstrates superior cycle stability without rapid capacity drop during 800 cycles.  相似文献

The application of graphite anodes in potassium‐ion batteries (KIB) is limited by the large variation in lattice volume and the low diffusion coefficient of potassium ions during (de)potassiation. This study demonstrates nitrogen‐doped, defect‐rich graphitic nanocarbons (GNCs) as high‐performance KIB anodes. The GNCs with controllable defect densities are synthesized by annealing an ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid nickel coordination compound. The GNCs show better performance than the previously reported thin‐walled graphitic carbonaceous materials such as carbon nanocages and nanotubes. In particular, the GNC prepared at 600 °C shows a stabilized capacity of 280 mAh g?1 at 50 mA g?1, robust rate capability, and long cycling life due to its high‐nitrogen‐doping, short‐range‐ordered, defect‐rich graphitic structure. A high capacity of 189 mAh g?1 with a long cycle life over 200 cycles is demonstrated at a current density of 200 mA g?1. Further, it is confirmed that the potassium ion storage mechanism of GNCs is different from that of graphite using multiple characterization methods. Specifically, the GNCs with numerous defects provide more active sites for the potassiation process, which results in a final discharge product with short‐range order. This study opens a new pathway for designing graphitic carbonaceous materials for KIB anodes.  相似文献

Magnesium as a promising alloy‐type anode material for lithium‐ion batteries features both high theoretical specific capacity (2150 mAh g?1) and stack energy density (1032 Wh L?1). However, the poor cycling performance of Mg‐based anodes severely limits their application, mainly because high‐impedance films can grow easily on the surface of Mg and cause diminished electrochemical activity. As a result, the capacities of reported Mg anodes fade quickly in less than 100 cycles. To improve the stability of Mg anodes, 3D Cu@Mg@C structures are prepared by depositing Mg/C composite on 3D Cu current collectors. The resulting 3D Cu@Mg@C anodes can deliver an initial capacity of 1392 mAh g?1. With a second‐cycle capacity of 1255 mAh g?1, 91% can be retained after 1000 cycles at 0.5 C. When cycled at 2 C, the initial capacity can be maintained for 4000 cycles. This remarkably improved cycling performance can be attributed to both the 3D structure and the embedded carbon layers of the 3D Cu@Mg@C electrodes that facilitate electrical contact and prevent the growth of high‐impedance films during cycling. With 3D Cu@Mg@C anodes and LiFePO4 cathodes, full cells are assembled and charging by a rotating triboelectric nanogenerator that can harvest mechanical energy is demonstrated.  相似文献

Exfoliating graphite to graphene has attracted great attention due to the fantastic properties of graphene available for designing graphene‐based materials or devices. Besides the classic solution method, herein a unique role of TiO2 in exfoliating graphite to be graphene layers effectively is reported. As a paradigm, this discovered effect of TiO2 is significant for preparing high‐performance graphene‐modified SiOx‐based anode in lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), in which the graphite is in situ exfoliated mechanically by TiO2 to be multilayered graphene (i.e., MLG) and then the SiOx is wrapped by the MLG to construct a SiOx/TiO2@MLG. In this case, an extremely high capacity of 1484 mAh g?1, long lifespan over 1200 cycles at 2 A g?1, as well as good performance in full LIBs (vs nickel‐rich cathode) are demonstrated. It is confirmed that the MLG can enhance electric conductivity, mitigate electrolyte decomposition, and alleviate volume effect of the SiOx effectively. This result is hard to be achieved using other kinds of metal oxide besides TiO2. It is hoped that the SiOx/TiO2@MLG is practical for pursuing LIBs with an energy density beyond 300 Wh kg?1. In addition, it is believed the ingenious strategy is applicable for designing more functional materials with greater capabilities.  相似文献

To develop high‐performance anode materials of lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) instead of commercial graphite for practical applications, herein, a layer of silicon has been well‐anchored onto a 3D graphene/carbon nanotube (CNT) aerogels (CAs) framework with face‐to‐face contact and balanced open void by a simple chemical vapor deposition strategy. The engineered contact interface between CAs and Si creates high‐efficiency channels for the rapid electrons and lithium ions transport, and meanwhile, the balanced open‐void allows the free expansion of Si during cycling while maintaining high structural integrity due to the robust mechanical strength of 3D CAs framework. As a consequence, the as‐synthesized Si/CAs nanohybrids are highly stable anode materials for LIBs with a high reversible discharge capacity (1498 mAh g?1 at 200 mA g?1) and excellent rate capability (462 mAh g?1 at 10 000 mA g?1), which is much better than Si/graphene‐CNTs‐mixture (51 mAh g?1 at 10 000 mA g?1). More significantly, it is found that the Si/CAs nanohybrids display no obvious capacity decline even after 2000 cycles at a high current density of 10 000 mA g?1. The present Si/CAs nanohybrids are one of the most stable Si‐based anode materials ever reported for LIBs to date.  相似文献

Metal sulfides are an important class of functional materials possessing exceptional electrochemical performance and thus hold great promise for rechargeable secondary batteries. In this work, we deposited gallium sulfide (GaSx, x = 1.2) thin films by atomic layer deposition (ALD) onto single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) powders. The ALD GaSx was performed at 150 °C, and produced uniform and conformal amorphous films. The resulting core‐shell, nanostructured SWCNT‐GaSx composite exhibited excellent electrochemical performance as an anode material for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), yielding a stable capacity of ≈575 mA g–1 at a current density of 120 mA g–1 in the voltage window of 0.01–2 V, and an exceptional columbic efficiency of >99.7%. The GaSx component of the composite produced a specific capacity of 766 mA g–1, a value two times that of conventional graphite anodes. We attribute the excellent electrochemical performance of the composite to four synergistic effects: 1) the uniform and conformal ALD GaSx coating offers short electronic and Li‐ion pathways during cycling; 2) the amorphous structure of the ALD GaSx accommodates stress during lithiation‐delithiation processes; 3) the mechanically robust SWCNT framework also accommodates stress from cycling; 4) the SWCNT matrix provides a continuous, high conductivity network.  相似文献

Binders have been reported to play a key role in improving the cycle performance of Si anode materials of lithium‐ion batteries. In this study, the biopolymer guar gum (GG) is applied as the binder for a silicon nanoparticle (SiNP) anode of a lithium‐ion battery for the first time. Due to the large number of polar hydroxyl groups in the GG molecule, a robust interaction between the GG binder and the SiNPs is achieved, resulting in a stable Si anode during cycling. More specifically, the GG binder can effectively transfer lithium ions to the Si surface, similarly to polyethylene oxide solid electrolytes. When GG is used as a binder, the SiNP anode can deliver an initial discharge capacity as high as 3364 mAh g?1, with a Coulombic efficiency of 88.3% at the current density of 2100 mA g?1, and maintain a capacity of 1561 mAh g?1 after 300 cycles. The study shows that the electrochemical performance of the SiNP anode with GG binder is significantly improved compared to that of a SiNP anode with a sodium alginate binder, and it demonstrates that GG is a promising binder for Si anodes of lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Niobium dioxide (NbO2) features a high theoretical capacity and an outstanding electron conductivity, which makes it a promising alternative to the commercial graphite negative electrode. However, studies on NbO2 based lithium‐ion battery negative electrodes have been rarely reported. In the present work, NbO2 nanoparticles homogeneously embedded in a carbon matrix are synthesized through calcination using a dental resin monomer (bisphenol A glycidyl dimethacrylate, Bis‐GMA) as the solvent and a carbon source and niobium ethoxide (NbETO) as the precursor. It is revealed that a low Bis‐GMA/NbETO mass ratio (from 1:1 to 1:2) enables the conversion of Nb (V) to Nb (IV) due to increased porosity induced by an alcoholysis reaction between the NbETO and Bis‐GMA. The as‐prepared NbO2/carbon nanohybrid delivers a reversible capacity of 225 mAh g?1 after 500 cycles at a 1 C rate with a Coulombic efficiency of more than 99.4% in the cycles. Various experimental and theoretical approaches including solid state nuclear magnetic resonance, ex situ X‐ray diffraction, differential electrochemical mass spectrometry, and density functional theory are utilized to understand the fundamental lithiation/delithiation mechanisms of the NbO2/carbon nanohybrid. The results suggest that the NbO2/carbon nanohybrid bearing high capacity, long cycle life, and low gas evolution is promising for lithium storage applications.  相似文献

Silicon has attracted ever‐increasing attention as a high‐capacity anode material in Li‐ion batteries owing to its extremely high theoretical capacity. However, practical application of silicon anodes is seriously hindered by its fast capacity fading as a result of huge volume changes during the charge/discharge process. Here, an interpenetrated gel polymer binder for high‐performance silicon anodes is created through in‐situ crosslinking of water‐soluble poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) precursors. This gel polymer binder with deformable polymer network and strong adhesion on silicon particles can effectively accommodate the large volume change of silicon anodes upon lithiation/delithiation, leading to an excellent cycling stability and high Coulombic efficiency even at high current densities. Moreover, high areal capacity of ~4.3 mAh/cm2 is achieved based on the silicon anode using the gel PAA–PVA polymer binder with a high mass loading. In view of simplicity in using the water soluble gel polymer binder, it is believed that this novel binder has a great potential to be used for high capacity silicon anodes in next generation Li‐ion batteries, as well as for other electrode materials with large volume change during cycling.  相似文献

Multidimensional hierarchical architecturing is a promising chemical approach to provide unique characteristics synergistically integrated from individual nanostructured materials for energy storage applications. Herein, hierarchical complex hybrid architectures of CNT‐on‐OCNT‐Fe are reported, where iron oxide nanoparticles are encapsulated inside carbon nanotube (CNT) branches grown onto the ozone‐treated surface of 3D CNT internetworked porous structures. The activated surface of the 3D ozonated CNT (OCNT) interacts with the iron oxide nanoparticles, resulting in different chemical environments of inner and outer tubes and large surface area. The mixed phases of iron oxide nanoparticles are confined by full encapsulation inside the conductive nanotubes and act as catalysts to vertically grow the CNT branches. This unique hierarchical architecture allows CNT‐on‐OCNT‐Fe to achieve a reasonable capacity of >798 mA h g?1 at 50 mA g?1, with outstanding rate capability (≈72% capacity retention at rates from 50 to 1000 mA g?1) and cyclic stability (>98.3% capacity retention up to 200 cycles at 100 mA g?1 with a coulombic efficiency of >97%). The improved rate and cyclic capabilities are attributed to the hierarchical porosity of 3D OCNT internetworks, the shielding of CNT walls for encapsulated iron oxide nanoparticles, and a proximate electronic pathway for the isolated nanoparticles.  相似文献

Carbon‐encapsulated Li3VO4 is synthesized by a facile environmentally benign solid‐state method with organic metallic precursor VO(C5H7O2)2 being chosen as both V and carbon sources yielding a core–shell nanostructure with lithium introduced in the subsequent annealing process. The Li3VO4 encapsulated with carbon presents exceeding rate capability (a reversible capability of 450, 340, 169, and 106 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C, 10 C, 50 C, and 80 C, respectively) and long cyclic performance (80% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 10 C) as an anode in lithium‐ion batteries. The superior performance is derived from the structural features of the carbon‐encapsulated Li3VO4 composite with oxygen vacancies in Li3VO4, which increase surface energy and could possibly serve as a nucleation center, thus facilitating phase transitions. The in situ generated carbon shell not only facilitates electron transport, but also suppresses Li3VO4 particle growth during the calcination process. The encouraging results demonstrate the significant potential of carbon encapsulated Li3VO4 for high power batteries. In addition, the simple generic synthesis method is applicable to the fabrication of a variety of electrode materials for batteries and supercapacitors with unique core–shell structure with mesoporous carbon shell.  相似文献

A facile two‐step strategy involving a polyol method and subsequent thermal annealing treatment is successfully developed for the large‐scale preparation of ZnCo2O4 various hierarchical micro/nanostructures (twin mcrospheres and microcubes) without surfactant assistance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the synthesis of ZnCo2O4 mesoporous twin microspheres and microcubes. More significantly, based on the effect of the reaction time on the morphology evolution of the precursor, a brand‐new crystal growth mechanism, multistep splitting then in situ dissolution recrystallization accompanied by morphology and phase change, is first proposed to understand the formation of the 3D twin microshperes, providing new research opportunity for investigating the formation of novel micro/nanostructures. When evaluated as anode materials for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), ZnCo2O4 hierarchical microstructures exhibit superior capacity retention, excellent cycling stability at the 5 A g?1 rate for 2000 cycles. Surprisingly, the ZnCo2O4 twin microspheres show an exceptionally high rate capability up to the 10 A g?1 rate. It should be noted that such super‐high rate performance and cycling stability at such high charge/discharge rates are significantly higher than most work previously reported on ZnCo2O4 micro/nanostructures and ZnCo2O4‐based heterostructures. The ZnCo2O4 3D hierarchical micro/nanostructures demonstrate the great potential as negative electrode materials for high‐performance LIBs.  相似文献
