Aluminium was determined in 282 cans of infant formulae and evaporated milks sold in Canada using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Milk-based formulae contained average (range) concentrations of 0.129 (0.010-0.36), 0.217 (0.17-0.56) and 0.717 (0.19-2.49) micrograms/g ('as sold') in ready-to-use, concentrated liquid and powder formulae, respectively. The corresponding concentrations in the soy-based formulae were 1.98 (0.40-6.4), 1.41 (0.59-2.29) and 9.44 (3.15-18.0) micrograms/g. Evaporated milk contained 0.093 (0.022-0.34) micrograms/g. The levels varied extensively according to formula brand; e.g. for ready-to-use formulae, the range of average concentrations by formula brand were 0.42-3.28 micrograms/g for soy-based and 0.020-0.22 micrograms/g for milk-based products. Estimated aluminium ingestion from formula or milk by infants up to 3 months old ranged from 0.5 microgram per kg body weight per day (microgram/kg/day) or 2 micrograms/day for 0-1 month olds fed cow milk exclusively to 219 micrograms/kg/day (1260 micrograms/day) for 1-3 month olds fed only soy-based formulae. Consumption of only the formulae brand having the highest mean aluminium level (3.28 micrograms/g) by 1-3 month old infants could result in an intake of 363 micrograms/kg/day (2088 micrograms/day). The estimates assume that the sole source of aluminium is the formula or milk and do not include any potential contribution from other foods or water.  相似文献

A survey of the pesticide content of 25 commercially available infant formulae and 30 weaning foods available in New Zealand was undertaken in 1996. It included a representative mixture of imported and New Zealand manufactured infant foods. Three different pesticide screening techniques were used: a high-sensitivity organochlorine screen was carried out on all infant formulae, while a multiresidue screen (organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides, synthetic pyrethroids, carbamate pesticides, fungicides and herbicides), and a specific screen for dithiocarbamate fungicides were both carried out on all weaning foods and on soy-based infant formulae. All results are expressed on a ready-to-feed basis. Extremely low levels of residues of three organochlorine compounds (p,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDT and dieldrin) were detected in infant formulae samples. Residues of p,p'-DDE were found in seven of 20 milk-based infant formulae at concentrations ranging from 0.03 to 0.5 μg kg-1. Residues of p,p'-DDT were found in one imported milk-based infant formula at 0.7 μg kg-1, and dieldrin residues were detected in four of five soy-based infant formulae at concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 0.08 μg kg-1. The multiresidue pesticide screen detected low levels of residues of two organophosphorus pesticides; azinphos-methyl in one soy-based infant formula at a level of 22 μg kg-1 and pirimiphos-methyl in two cereal-based weaning foods at concentrations of 5 and 14 μg kg-1. None of the other approximately 140 pesticides (including fungicides and herbicides) included in the multiresidue screen were detected in any weaning foods or soy-based infant formulae, at a detection limit of 10 μg kg-1. No residues of dithiocarbamate fungicides were detected in any product analysed, at a detection limit of 100 μg kg-1.  相似文献

Total mercury (Hg) was measured in 150 infant formula products (as sold) and oral electrolyte solutions purchased in Canada in 2003. Results less than the limit of detection (LOD) were reported as the numeric value of the LOD. Electrolytes contained the lowest concentrations, averaging 0.026?ng/g. Average levels in milk-based ready-to-use, concentrated liquid and powdered concentrate were 0.028, 0.069 and 0.212?ng/g, respectively. In soy-based formulae, the respective mean concentrations were 0.049, 0.101 and 0.237?ng/g. These concentrations cannot be considered on an absolute basis because 76% of sample concentrations fell below the limit of detection. Despite the inability to measure many of the actual background concentrations, the method was sufficiently sensitive to identify clear cases of low-level Hg contamination (up to 1.5?ng/g) of individual lots of powdered formula. Also, all the different lots of one brand of concentrated liquid infant formulae had significantly higher concentrations of Hg than those of all other concentrated liquid products. After dilution with preparation water, the Hg concentrations in all products would be lower than the Canadian Drinking Water Guideline for Hg of 1?ng/mL and too low to impact on health.  相似文献

Tea and infant formulae have been examined for the presence of aluminium. Concentrations in 13 different tea infusions ranged from 2.2 mg/l to 4.5 mg/l. In cow's milk-based infant formulae as made up for consumption, aluminium levels of between 0.03 mg/l and 0.20 mg/l were detected. Higher amounts were present in soya-based formulae with concentrations ranging from 0.64 mg/l to 1.34 mg/l.  相似文献

Aluminium levels in infant formulae purchased in 1990 and prepared as for consumption were in the range 530 micrograms/l to 640 micrograms/l for soya-based products and 27 micrograms/l to 120 micrograms/l for cows' milk-based formulae. Mean aluminium concentrations in these soya and cows' milk-based samples were, on average, 37% and 45% lower, respectively, than those of the same brands purchased between 1985 and 1987. Levels of aluminium in breast milk were in the range 3 micrograms/l to 79 micrograms/l. In the case of retail cows' milk, values ranged from 4 micrograms/l to 33 micrograms/l whilst more variable amounts of between 5 micrograms/l and 285 micrograms/l were detected in retail soya milk.  相似文献

Cadmium levels were determined in 59 baby food samples, including milk-based, cereal and milk-based and soy-based formulas, recommended from 0 to 18 months of age. Determinations were performed by Zeeman graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry, after dry ashing, with parallel determinations of certified reference samples. Mean cadmium levels were found to range from 1.10 to 23.5 mu g / kg fresh weight concentrated formulas. L evels were related to the composition of the diets. Formulas based on cow's milk had the lowest concentrations. Soy formulas contained approximately six times more cadmium than cow's milk formulas, and diets with a cereal content had 4-21 times higher mean levels. The mean weekly intakes of dietary cadmium were estimated to vary between 0.10 and 3 : 05 mu g / kg body weight of the child, if the recommended amount of formula were to be consumed at the recommended age, and if the child were of average weight. This estimation however does not include the contribution of cadmium from drinking water. The highest intake on a body weight basis was found in 6-month-old children, consuming the recommended amount of wheat-, oat- and milk-based formulas. This intake is below the provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTW I) of 7 mu g / kg body weight, established by a W HO/FAO expert group. However, the risk assessment is based on renal effects in adults. Furthermore, preparations of a formula by adding water with cadmium concentrations at the W HO guideline level could lead to intakes at the PTW I level. Compared to breast-fed children, the exposure of dietary cadmium from weaning diets can be up to 12 times higher in children fed infant formula.  相似文献

The incidence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in 69 different infant formulae marketed in Spain between 2007 and 2008 was studied and dietary intake estimated. Samples were analysed using an HPLC method coupled with fluorescence detection after immunoaffinity column clean-up. The toxin was detected in 26 formulae (37.7%) at levels below the permissible limit set by EC legislation, giving a range of 0.6–11.6 ng kg?1 with a mean value of 3.1 ng kg?1. Increasing occurrence was found in those formulae produced by the less complex manufacturing processes affecting casein/whey protein ratio: pre-term, 14.3%; starter, 35.3%; follow-up, 42.1%; toddler 87.6%; while hypoallergenic and lactose-free were totally exempt. Additionally, the influence of main protein source and physical state (powdered and ready-to-use formula) on AFM1 occurrence was evaluated leading to similar conclusions. Dietary AFM1 weekly intake was observed to be stable around 1 ng kg?1 bw for standard formula and 0.1 ng kg?1 bw for pre-term feeding.  相似文献

Seventy-seven infant formulas were analyzed for iron. Samples were from three formulation classes: milk-base (17), milk-base plus Fe (29) and soy-base (31). Mean iron levels for the milk-based, milk-based plus Fe and soy-based formulas were 0.4, 2.1 and 2.5 mg/100 Kcal, respectively. Iron levels ranged from 0.26-4.7 mg/100 Kcal. All milk-based formulas met minimum requirement of 0.15 mg/100 Kcal of the 1980 Infant Formula Act. Fe levels of formulas produced by different firms were significantly different (α= 0.05). Mean Fe levels were 193.5%, 116.1%, and 134.1% of declared for milk-based, milk-based plus Fe and soy-based formulas, respectively.  相似文献

Cadmium, lead and mercury in human milk from Slovakia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The objective of this study was to investigate Cd, Pb, and Hg levels in the breast milk of 158 lactating healthy women who were not occupationally exposed and living in eight environmentally different polluted locations of the Slovak Republic. Levels of these metals were examined in relation to selected parameters, such as: location, mother's age, parity, number of mother's teeth fillings, newborn's gender and birth weight, and smoking habits in the family. Cd and Pb levels in human milk and reconstituted infant formula were determined by GFAAS. Hg levels were measured by amalgamation technique AAS. The average concentrations of Cd, Pb and Hg in breast milk samples, taken on the 4th postpartum day, were 0.43, 4.7 and 0.94 µg/kg, respectively, and those in infant formula (n = 10) were 0.40, 5.0 and 0.25 µg/kg, respectively. Dietary weekly intakes of Cd, Pb, and Hg from breast milk and infant formula in newborn babies were also estimated. Whereas the calculated average dietary intakes of Cd, Pb, and Hg in newborn babies from breast milk and infant formula were all far lower than the appropriate PTWI values recommended by WHO/FAO, two individual breast milk samples for Pb and one breast milk sample for Hg exceeded the PTWI values. Regarding the studied parameters, only the active/passive smoking of the mother at home significantly increased Pb levels in breast milk and amalgam teeth fillings increased Hg levels in breast milk.  相似文献

Concentrations of cadmium, chromium, lead and vanadium were determined in samples of six fish species collected along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The concentrations of the elements studied were generally low, often below the detection limits of the analytical methods. The highest values (μg kg-1 fresh weight) were observed, mainly in the central area of the Adriatic Sea, for anchovy (Cd 20.2, Cr 82.9, Pb 45.9, V 89.9), red mullet (Cd 3.1, Cr 31.0, Pb 36.0, V 79.1) and mackerel (Cd 7.7, Cr 28.0, Pb 11.4, V 43.5). The concentrations of cadmium and lead in all the species examined were below the maximum levels indicated by the European Community for these two elements in seafood, and also would lead to exposure levels lower than the provisional tolerable daily intakes suggested by the FAO/WHO for Cd (420 μg week-1 for a 60-kg person) and Pb (1500 μg week-1 for a 60-kg person). The concentration of chromium was lower than the recommended daily amount (50-200 μg day-1 for a 60-kg person) indicated by the US National Research Council. An 11-34% contribution to the daily vanadium ingestion with fish was calculated for the population of the Adriatic coast.  相似文献

Lead and cadmium levels were determined in 131 infant foods. Mean lead and cadmium levels were 19.3 and 3.3 ng/g for meats, 8.4 and 4.1 ng/g for vegetables, 14.9 and 0.58 ng/g for fruits and desserts, 9.6 and 0.53 ng/g for juices and drinks, and 32.8 and 33.6 ng/g for dry infant cereals. These data, combined with those from other recent surveys, yielded average dietary (food and water) intakes of lead and cadmium by infants 0-1 year old of 2.4 and 0.37 microgram/kg/day, respectively. Lead intakes were most strongly influenced by storage of infant formulas in lead-soldered cans. For infants 0-1 month old, they ranged from 0.5 microgram/kg/day when human or cow milk was fed to infants to 5.3 micrograms/kg/day (exceeding the FAO/WHO provisional tolerable daily intake, PTWI, of lead by children of 3.5 micrograms/kg) when ready-to-use formula stored in lead-soldered cans was fed. Cadmium intakes were most strongly affected by soya based formulas, and ranged, for 0-1 months olds, from 0.16 microgram/kg/day for infants fed human or cow milk to 0.50 microgram/kg/day for infants fed soya-based concentrated liquid formula. Cadmium intakes were all below the FAO/WHO PTDI of cadmium by adults of 0.96-1.2 micrograms/kg.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to obtain data on the exposure of non-breast-fed infants to polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), organochlorine pesticides (OCP), and bisphenol A (BPA) and its chlorinated derivatives through consumption of commercial infant foods with largest shares of the market in 22 European Union countries. The E-Screen bioassay was employed to assess the oestrogenicity of the baby foods and the ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) induction was measured to determine the levels of PCDD/F and PCB. Consequently, the highest total effective xenoestrogen burden (TEXB) of 73.60?pM?Eeq?g(-1) was found in the soy-based formula and the EROD bioassay was always below the limit of quantification (LOQ) (3.5?pg?g(-1)). Overall, the estimated dietary exposure to BPA via commercial baby foods was lower than the tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 50?μg?kg(-1) body weight (bw). Furthermore, the findings indicated that the dietary exposure of 0-9-month-old infants through the products investigated here does not exceed the maximum TDI of 4?pg WHO-TEQ (toxic equivalents)?kg(-1) bw. However, exposure to more than 2?pg WHO-TEQ?kg(-1)?bw?day(-1) might occur for 0-4-month-old infants consuming 'starting' hypoallergenic formula. Moreover, analysis of OCP indicated that the dietary exposure of non-breast-fed infants was not harmful. Considering the importance of early development and the vulnerability of infants and children, it is essential to determine their dietary exposure to contaminants in order to decide which efforts of risk reduction should receive highest priority.  相似文献

This article shows the concentrations of ten metals (Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr, Cu, Co, Fe, Mn, Zn and Al) measured in 30 different brands of nail polish in the Nigerian market in order to provide some relevant information on the safe levels of these products for consumers. The metal concentrations in the nail polish samples ranged from <0.15 µg/g Cd, <0.03 to 7.25 µg/g Pb, <0.03 to 40 µg/g Ni, <0.1 to 8.25 µg/g Cr, <0.03 to 590 µg/g Cu, <0.03 to 3.00 µg/g Co, <0.1 to 15,200 µg/g Fe, <0.05 to 458 µg/g Mn, <0.03 to 595 µg/g Zn and <0.25 to 13,600 µg/g Al. The concentrations of Ni, Cr, and Co were found above the suggested allergenic limit of 1 µg/g in 56, 33 and 17 % of the 30 brands, respectively, whereas Cd and Pb were detected at levels below their permissible limits as impurities in cosmetics as specified by Health Canada. The brands made in Nigeria contained lower concentrations of Ni, Cr, Cu, Co, Pb and Al than the imported brands.  相似文献

The most popular brands of salted anchovies (Engraulis encrasicolus) from the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean were purchased from several Italian supermarkets and grocery stores. Heavy metal (Hg, Cd, and Pb) and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels were determined and assessed by comparing the concentrations in these samples with the maximum permissible limits set by the European Union (Reg EC 629/2008 and Reg EC 1881/2006 [Off. J. Eur. Union L 173:3-9 and 364:5-24, respectively]). The Hg and Cd levels were higher than those of Pb in all samples examined. For Hg and Pb, the concentrations recorded in this study were below the authorized limits, while an appreciable percentage of samples from both locations (Mediterranean Sea, 35%, and Atlantic Ocean, 25%) showed Cd levels exceeding the threshold recommended for human consumption. Concerning PCBs, the results of principal component analysis showed that samples from the two different marine areas appeared to be discriminate, with Mediterranean anchovies more contaminated than the others, in spite of their lower lipid content. However, anchovy samples from both locations had dioxinlike-PCB levels (Mediterranean Sea, 0.011 pg World Health Organization toxic equivalency [WHO-TEQ] g(-1), wet weight, and Atlantic Ocean, 0.007 pg WHO-TEQ g(-1), wet weight) that were below the WHO-TEQ maximum concentration set by European regulation. The results of this study will help in generating data needed for the assessment of heavy metal and PCB intake from this food.  相似文献

Aluminium (Al), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) levels in a total of 263 samples of 12 types of candies widely consumed in Spain, were evaluated. Samples were analysed using an ICP-MS method after acidic sample mineralization. Concentration ranges of Al, Ni, Cd and Pb were 21.28–62.91 µg g?1, 0.40–1.27 µg g?1, 0.12–1.01 µg g?1 and 1.03–7.14 µg g?1, respectifgvely. Statistically significant positive correlations were calculated between concentrations of Ni–Al and Pb–Cd (p-values < 0.05). Taking into consideration the relatively high metal content, together with the high caloric density of these products, as well as high content of particular nutrients such as sugars that can induce development of certain pathologies like obesity and caries, indicate that frequent consumption of candy products is not recommended.  相似文献

The effects of sex and season on metal levels of the mantle of the common cuttlefish that was caught from Mersin Bay were evaluated. The annual range of mantle length (ML), total length (TL), and weight of common cuttlefish specimens were 110 to 183 mm, 380 to 581 mm, and 150.24 to 477.13 g, respectively. The annual range of metal levels in the mantle tissue of common cuttlefish were: 2.34 to 3.89 μg Cd g(-1), 0.30 to 0.63 μg Cr g(-1), 0.15 to 0.54 μg Pb g(-1), 2.35 to 14.90 μg Cu g(-1), 23.22 to 51.88 μg Zn g(-1), and 5.12 to 10.65 μg Fe g(-1). Cu levels of females were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than those found in male throughout all the seasons while Pb levels were lower (P < 0.05) in males than females. Cr levels in the mantle tissue of cuttlefish did not change throughout the seasons. On the contrary, Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Fe levels in the mantle tissue of cuttlefish changed throughout all the seasons. The highest Cd, Zn, and Fe levels were obtained in spring while the highest Cu levels were obtained in autumn. It was also found out that this species was rich in terms of metal levels, particularly, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Fe. It was found out that the mantle tissue of the common cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, which was caught from Mersin Bay, was contaminated with Cd in all the seasons.  相似文献

HPLC-RI was used to monitor saccharide evolution during the shelf-life of two types of milk-based formulae powders supplemented with microencapsulated long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA): infant formula and formula for pregnant and/or lactating women. In addition, these powders were subjected to sensory evaluation. The powders were stored at 25, 37 and 47 °C. Lactose was detected in the infant formula (63 g/100 g), while in the formula for pregnant women, the following were found: lactose (25 g/100 g), fructose (15.8 g/100 g), sucrose (9.28 g/100 g) and lactulose (0.9 g/100 g). Microencapsulated LC-PUFA supplementation of milk-based formula powders did not affect sugar changes.  相似文献

The effects of pH on ascorbate free radical production in ascorbic acid-supplemented cow's milk, soy- and milk-based infant formulas and in aqueous ascorbic acid solutions were examined. Formula and milk components decreased ascorbate free radical concentrations. Ascorbate free radical levels in pepsin-hydrolyzed soy and milk formulas were no different from those of unhydrolyzed formulas. At the phytate: iron molar ratio in the formulas, phytate decreased ascorbate free radical levels in pH 2.0 and 7.0 ascorbic acid solutions containing iron by about 35% and 50%, respectively. This antioxidant effect of phytate was not observed in soy-based and phytate-spiked milk-based formulas.  相似文献

The aim was to assess the influence of mancozeb, zoxamide and copper oxychloride fungicide treatments on Mn, Zn, Cu, Cd and Pb concentrations in Sicilian red wines, grapes, marcs and grape stalks. The experimentation was carried out over two crop years: 2003 and 2004. Trace metals analysis was performed by derivative stripping chronopotentiometry, which allowed detection of concentrations lower than 1 ng g-1. The data obtained gave evidence that the levels of Mn and Zn in wines from plots treated with zoxamide-mancozeb were about threefold higher than those observed in the control. Wines treated with Cu oxychloride had a significant increase in Cu(II) concentrations with respect to the control; in particular, samples from 2004 showed a 50% increase in Cu levels. Furthermore, as shown in a previous paper, the fungicides treatments studied led to a moderate increase in Pb(II) and Cd(II) levels in treated samples with respect to the control. Wines from 2004 had higher Cu and Pb amounts than wines from 2003; but the concentrations of all the other metals were similar. Statistical analysis of the data by linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and the Kruskal-Wallis test confirmed that both zoxamide-mancozeb treatments and copper oxychloride treatments exerted a significant influence on Mn(II), Zn(II) Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) concentrations in wines, grapes, marcs and grape stalks samples from both the studied vintages.  相似文献

Mercury, cadmium, and lead concentrations were determined in various fishery products (fishes, cephalopod molluscs, and crustaceans) imported into Italy from many European and non-European coastal countries. Considerable differences were found in the concentrations of these metals among the products tested. The highest mean Hg concentration was found in fishes (0.21 μg g(-1) wet weight), whereas cephalopods had the highest mean Cd concentration (0.35 μg g(-1) wet weight). Swordfish (0.80 μg g(-1) wet weight), longtail tuna (0.53 μg g(-1) wet weight), and thornback ray (0.52 μg g(-1) wet weight) had the highest concentrations of Hg, whereas maximum Cd concentrations were found in samples of common cuttlefish (0.85 μg g(-1) wet weight) and common octopus (0.64 μg g(-1) wet weight). The majority of the samples analyzed were in compliance with European Union legislation, except for a few cases. The calculated mean weekly intakes of Hg, Cd, and Pb through consumption of the fishery products tested were all below the legislated respective provisional tolerable weekly intakes. In general, the samples analyzed were considered safe to eat with regard to the metal concentrations found and the allowable intakes based on legislation. Nevertheless, the consumption of some species may be of significant importance for consumer health.  相似文献
