In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid joint maximum‐likelihood estimator for carrier frequency offset (CFO), timing offset, and channel response of all users in the uplink of an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system. The proposed estimation method significantly reduces complexity of this multiparameter, multidimensional optimization problem, using the concept of separation of the different user signals by means of newly defined projection operators. This projection technique is combined with the alternating projection method available in the literature to arrive at a new hybrid algorithm that offers significant performance advantages in terms of computational complexity and estimator performance. The joint estimation of the CFOs, timing offsets, and channel coefficients for all active users together at the base station of the OFDMA uplink is a rarely addressed task. The proposed method also offers the flexibility of application to any subcarrier assignment scheme used in OFDMA systems. Extensive simulation studies corroborate the advantages of the new hybrid method for all three estimation requirements in the multiuser OFDMA uplink. This paper considers the problem of joint carrier offset and code timing estimation for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems. In contrast to existing schemes that require nonlinear iterative searches over the multidimensional parameter space, this paper proposes a blind estimator that provides an algebraic solution to the joint parameter estimation problem. By exploiting the subspace structure of the observed signal, the multiuser estimation is first decoupled into a series of single-user estimation problems, and then analytical tools of polynomial matrices are invoked for joint carrier and code timing estimation of a single user. The proposed estimator is near-far resistant. It can deal with frequency-selective and time-varying channels. The performance of the proposed scheme is examined analytically by a first-order perturbation analysis. The authors also derive an unconditional Crame/spl acute/r-Rao bound (CRB) that is conditioned neither on fading coefficients nor information symbols; as such, the CRB is considered a suitable lower bound for blind methods. Numerical examples are presented to evaluate and compare the proposed and a multidimensional search (MD-search)-based scheme.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of CDMA multiuser detection in the presence of unknown multipath channels and residual carriers. An analytic algorithm that provides closed-form channel and carrier offset estimates is proposed. The algorithm first converts the multiuser estimation problem into single- user problems and then analytically solves the resulting nonlinear multivariate optimization problems using a polynomial matrix projection property. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated: through first-order perturbation analysis. We also calculate the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) to illustrate the efficiency of the new algorithm. In this paper, we propose a low‐complexity joint detection of sector cell index and integer carrier frequency offset for a long‐term evolution downlink system. In order to implement a low‐cost detection scheme, a primary synchronization signal used for joint parameter estimation is grouped into a number of subsets so that the pilots in each subset are strongly correlated. The estimation performance and the computational load of the proposed scheme are compared with those of the commonly used conventional detection scheme using a differential correlation to remove common channel effects. It is found that the proposed scheme can jointly detect the cell index and integer carrier frequency offset with higher accuracy and much lower complexity, compared with the conventional scheme. While multicarrier CDMA techniques are used to reduce interference and improve the performance of the system in fading channel, carrier frequency offset and multiple access interference remain major obstacles for a multicarrier CDMA system's performance. In this article we propose a novel joint detection method called modified maximum likelihood multistage parallel interference canceller (M-ML-MPIC) to eliminate the frequency offset and MAI simultaneously. The main idea of our approach is to combine PIC multiuser detection and frequency offset estimation based on a maximum likelihood function with guard interval. We discuss our scheme and report on its performance using a set of simulation experiments.  相似文献

This paper provides an approximate closed form solution to the problem of data-aided joint maximum likelihood estimation of the carrier frequency offset and of the channel impulse response in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing transmission over a multipath fading channel. This results in a novel pilot-aided feedforward estimator, that can be employed for pilot-based receiver training. It is also shown how the novel joint estimation strategy can be exploited in an iterative (turbo) receiver structure to track the fast channel and frequency offset changes occurring during the transmission of information symbols. The performance of this structure is assessed by computer simulations and is compared with that provided by other estimation/detection strategies.  相似文献

This paper studies the joint estimation technique of carrier frequency offset (CFO) and channel information for a distributed decode‐and‐forward (DF) cooperative space‐time block‐coded (STBC) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. For the considered relay system, we provide theoretical analysis of the effects upon the output signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR), which is caused by the CFO/channel estimation error. Based on the provided analytical results, a joint CFO/channel estimation scheme is then developed, where the CFO estimate is achieved by a multiple‐dimensional linear search algorithm. Furthermore, we propose an alternative estimation solution with iteration approach being designed for the CFO estimation prior to the channel estimation. In contrast to the former estimator, the iterative method enjoys the advantage of the substantially reduced implementation complexity without sacrificing the estimate performance. The conducted computer simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.  相似文献

针对多指数连续相位调制(Multi-h CPM)载波恢复困难且实现复杂度高的难题,提出了一种适用于Multi-h CPM信号的减少状态多符号差分非相干检测算法。该算法利用多符号差分信息进行分支度量计算的同时引入参考相位信号,实现了具有残留载波频偏校正的非相干序列检测,并且结合逐幸存处理技术,利用幸存路径上的假设判决信息减少了网格状态数。通过计算和搜索接收信号所有可能调制指数序列所对应的分支度量信息实现了调制指数的估计与同步。计算机仿真结果表明,与相干最大似然序列检测相比,该算法能够以较小的性能损失获得其实现复杂度的降低,而且当存在残留载波频偏时,该算法的检测性能也较为稳健。  相似文献

In this letter, we propose a novel frequency offset estimation algorithm for space‐time block code (STBC) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. The algorithm mainly exploits the specific construction of STBC so that it does not need any additional pilots or sequences in the data field. The estimator is derived on the basis of the maximum likelihood theory. Simulation results show that this method can provide a significant performance improvement in terms of the estimation accuracy of the frequency offset.  相似文献

卫星移动通信中,针对短突发独特字个数很少,传统的频偏估计性能差,导致载波跟踪性能严重下降的问题,提出了一种基于软判决反馈的载波频偏估计方案。在对接收短突发信号进行软判决反馈得到短突发信号的估计基础上,利用部分估计信号作为独特字,进行频偏估计,用于载波跟踪。仿真结果表明,提出的方案能较大地提高载波频偏估计性能。  相似文献

This paper investigates blind channel estimation and multiuser detection for quasi‐synchronous multi‐carrier code‐division multiple‐access (MC‐CDMA) multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) systems with quasi‐orthogonal space–time block codes (QO‐STBC). Subspace‐based blind channel estimation is proposed by considering a QO‐STBC scheme that involves four transmit antennas and multiple receive antennas. Based on the first‐order perturbation theory, the mean square error of the channel estimation is derived. With the estimated channel coefficients, we employ minimum output energy and eigenspace receivers for symbol detection. Using the QO‐STBC coding property, the weight analyses are performed to reduce the computational complexity of the system. In addition, the forward–backward averaging technique is presented to enhance the performance of multiuser detection. Frequency synchronization has a great importance in preserving the performance of the underwater acoustic (UWA) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation can be blind or data‐aided. In this paper, the Zadoff‐Chu (ZC) sequences are used for OFDM synchronization in UWA communications, and they are compared with different data‐aided algorithms. We propose a low‐complexity algorithm for CFO estimation based on ZC sequences. Also, a joint equalization and CFO compensation scheme for UWA‐OFDM communication systems is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CFO estimation algorithm allows estimation of the CFO accurately with a simple implementation in comparison with the traditional schemes. Also, the performance of the UWA‐OFDM system can be preserved in the presence of frequency offsets.  相似文献

Single‐carrier frequency division multiple access (SC‐FDMA) systems with space frequency block coding (SFBC) transmissions achieve both spatial and frequency diversity gains in wireless communications. However, SFBC SC‐FDMA schemes using linear detectors suffer from severe performance deterioration because of noise enhancement propagation and additive noise presence in the detected output. Both issues are similar to inter‐symbol‐interference (ISI). Traditionally, SC‐FDMA system decision feedback equalizer (DFE) is often used to eliminate ISI caused by multipath propagation. This article proposes frequency domain turbo equalization based on nonlinear multiuser detection for uplink SFBC SC‐FDMA transmission systems. The presented iterative receiver performs equalization with soft decisions feedback for ISI mitigation. Its coefficients are derived using minimum mean squared error criteria. The receiver configuration study is Alamouti's SFBC with two transmit and two receive antennas. New receiver approach is compared with the recently proposed suboptimal linear detector for SFBC SC‐FDMA systems. Simulation results confirm that the performance of the proposed iterative detection outperforms conventional detection techniques. Multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising technology to achieve high uplink/downlink (DL) capacities in the next generation broadband wireless networks such as WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). In this paper, we investigate the DL adaptive power allocation (APA) in multiuser OFDM system from the perspective of cross‐layer design. Specifically, we formulate APA as an optimization problem with the traffic profile of each user asit a priori knowledge. To solve the optimization problem, we develop a fairness‐constrained optimal prioritized effective throughput (PET) strategy and the corresponding iterative algorithms, aiming at balancing the prioritized effective throughput and the linear or logarithmic user satisfaction‐based fairness. In this paper, we study joint resource allocation and adaptive modulation in single‐carrier frequency‐division multiple access systems, which is adopted as the multiple access scheme for the uplink in the 3GPP Long Term Evolution standard. We formulate an adaptive modulation and sum‐cost minimization (JAMSCmin) problem. Unlike orthogonal frequency‐division multiple access, in addition to the restriction of allocating a subchannel to one user at most, the multiple subchannels allocated to a user in single‐carrier frequency‐division multiple access systems should be consecutive as well. This renders the resource allocation problem prohibitively difficult and the standard optimization tools (e.g., Lagrange dual approach widely used for orthogonal frequency‐division multiple access, etc.) cannot help towards its optimal solution. We propose a novel optimization framework for the solution of this problem that is inspired from the recently developed canonical duality theory. We first formulate the optimization problem as binary‐integer programming (BIP) problem and then transform this BIP problem into continuous space canonical dual problem that is the concave maximization problem. Based on the solution of the canonical dual problem, we derive joint resource allocation and adaptive modulation algorithm, which has polynomial time complexity. We provide conditions under which the proposed algorithm is optimal. We compare the proposed algorithm with the existing algorithms in the literature. The results show a tremendous performance gain. A wireless body area network (WBAN) is a radio‐frequency‐based wireless communication technology that consists of a number of different sensor and actuator nodes interconnected with a body gateway. Considering the constrained resources in WBAN devices, simple and noise‐robust synchronization algorithms are required. Frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation are extremely important in the design of a robust WBAN receiver. In this paper, a detection strategy such as frame synchronization and frequency estimation is described in the WBAN system, which can improve the receiver performance. In doing so, algorithms are designed or chosen for the frame detection, carrier frequency offset synchronization, and joint fine‐time and phase‐offset estimation by exploiting the spike‐like property of the physical layer convergence protocol preamble and the frame structure in the WBAN system. Relying on a kurtosis-type criterion, we develop a low-complexity blind carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimator for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. We demonstrate analytically how identifiability and performance of this blind CFO estimator depend on the channel's frequency selectivity and the input distribution. We show that this approach can be applied to blind CFO estimation in multi-input multi-output and multiuser OFDM systems. The issues of channel s, multiuser interference, and effects of multiple antennas are addressed analytically, and tested via simulations.  相似文献

Wireless communication systems have gained huge attraction from research community, industrial, and academic field due to their significant impact on improving the communication efficiency, ease of deployment, and cost‐effective solution for real‐time communication. In this field of wireless communication, cellular communications have grown rapidly due to their daily usages and advantages. This increased demand of cellular communication systems has led to the evolution of 3G, 4G, and 5G communication systems, which in turn demands for higher efficiency and better bandwidth utilization. Due to heavy usage of network communication, multiple users may cause interference which subsequently may lead to the performance degradation which could be addressed using multiuser detection scheme. However, several schemes have been introduced for improving the system performance, but multiple access (MA) still remains a challenging task. Hence, in this work, we present a novel approach called Spatial Log‐Likelihood Multiuser Detection and Interference Cancelation (SLLR‐MDIC) that uses interleaving division multiple access (IDMA) to improve the communication and developed a multiuser detection approach using spatial log‐likelihood ratios. Further, we have developed orthogonal frequency‐division multiple access (OFDM)–IDMA‐based interference cancelation scheme in multiple access to improve the performance using rake receiver based approach. The performance of SLLR‐MDIC scheme is compared with existing techniques of multiuser detection in terms of bit‐error rate (BER) and symbol error rate (SER). The experimental analysis shows that proposed approach achieves improved performance when compared with existing techniques.  相似文献

Estimation of signals with nonlinear as well as linear parameters in noise is studied. Maximum likelihood estimation has been shown to perform the best among all the methods. In such problems, joint maximum likelihood estimation of the unknown parameters reduces to a separable optimization problem, where first, the nonlinear parameters are estimated via a grid search, and then, the nonlinear parameter estimates are used to estimate the linear parameters. We show that a grid search can be avoided by using the mean likelihood estimator for estimating the unknown nonlinear parameters and how its performance can be made equivalent to that of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). The mean likelihood estimator requires computation of a multidimensional integral. However, using the concepts of importance sampling, we obtain the mean likelihood estimate without using integration. The technique is computationally far less burdensome than the direct maximum likelihood method but performs just as well. Simulation examples for estimating frequencies of multiple sinusoids in noise are given. The general technique can be applied to a large class of nonlinear regression problems  相似文献
