This study presents a novel external device for quantifying accurately keyboard and mouse usage with a high input rate for prolonged periods. Three experimental tasks were performed to determine the effectiveness of the proposed logger. All mouse and keyboard activities were recorded simultaneously using the logger and WorkPace software. Ten university students typed on a keyboard, moved and clicked a mouse during tasks under various preset and self-selected speeds for 3 min. Computer input activities of 7 university students playing online games and 7 processing documents were recorded for 8 consecutive days. Analytical results demonstrate that the proposed external logger is more accurate than WorkPace, especially at a fast data entry speeds. The keystroke counts recorded by WorkPace were accurate only at low typing speeds. Moreover, the keystroke count recorded by WorkPace decreased by 17.6% from the logger-registered keystroke count when the typing rate was ≥4 keys/s, particularly when amalgamating with composite keystrokes. Similarly, the number of mouse clicks counted by WorkPace was 27.8% less than that counted by the logger when the click rate was ≥3.2 clicks/s. The average reduction in number of WorkPace-counted keystrokes and mouse clicks was 7.7 ± 2.0% (range [4.4%, 9.7%]) and 3.3 ± 3.3% (range [0.04%, 8.7%]), respectively, during online gaming tests, and was 4.0 ± 4.9% (range [−3.6%, 8.9%]) and 4.6 ± 4.7% (range [0.7%, 13.1%]), respectively, during document processing tests. This work demonstrates that the proposed external logger is an accurate and reliable tool for quantitatively measuring computer input activities. Further applications of the logger are discussed.

Quantitative assessment of keyboard and mouse use can help identify high-risk groups and safe duration of computer use. The proposed logger effectively measures computer input activities, thereby providing accurate data than a software-based logger in assessing computer usage.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to assess associations between depression and problematic internet use (PIU) among female college students, and determine whether Internet use time moderates this relationship.MethodThis cross-sectional survey included 265 female college students from four U.S. universities. Students completed the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Problematic and Risky Internet Use Screening Scale (PRIUSS) and self-reported daily Internet use. Analyses included multivariate analysis of variance and Poisson regression.ResultsParticipants reported mean age of 20.2 years (SD = 1.7) and were 84.9% Caucasian. The mean PHQ-9 score was 5.4 (SD = 4.6); the mean PRIUSS score was 16.4 (SD = 11.1). Participants’ risk for PIU increased by 27% with each additional 30 min spent online using a computer (RR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.14–1.42, p < .0001). Risk for PIU was significantly increased among those who met criteria for severe depression (RR = 8.16 95% CI: 4.27–15.6, p < .0001). The PHQ-9 items describing trouble concentrating, psychomotor dysregulation and suicidal ideation were most strongly associated with PIU risk.ConclusionsThe positive relationship between depression and PIU among female college students supports screening for both conditions, particularly among students reporting particular depression symptoms.  相似文献

Computations of irregular primes and associated cyclotomic invariants were extended to all primes up to 12 million using multisectioning/convolution methods and a novel approach which originated in the study of Stickelberger codes Shokrollahi (1996). The latter idea reduces the problem to that of finding zeros of a polynomial overFpof degree  <  (p   1) / 2 among the quadratic nonresidues mod p. Use of fast polynomial gcd-algorithms gives anO (p log2p loglog p)-algorithm for this task. A more efficient algorithm, with comparable asymptotic running time, can be obtained by using Schönhage–Strassen integer multiplication techniques and fast multiple polynomial evaluation algorithms; this approach is particularly efficient when run on primes p for whichp   1 has small prime factors. We also give some improvements on previous implementations for verifying the Kummer–Vandiver conjecture and for computing the cyclotomic invariants of a prime.  相似文献

Social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, have become extremely popular. Facebook, for example, has more than a billion registered users and thousands of millions of units of information are shared every day, including short phrases, articles, photos, and audio and video clips. However, only a tiny proportion of these sharing units trigger any type of knowledge exchange that is ultimately beneficial to the users. This study draws on the theory of belonging and the intrinsic motivation of altruism to explore the factors contributing to knowledge sharing behavior. Using a survey of 299 high school students applying for university after the release of the public examination results, we find that perceived online attachment motivation (β = 0.31, p < 0.001) and perceived online relationship commitment (β = 0.49, p < 0.001) have positive, direct, and significant effects on online knowledge sharing (R2 0.568). Moreover, when introduced into the model, altruism has a direct and significant effect on online knowledge sharing (β = 0.46, p < 0.001) and the total variance explained by the extended model increases to 64.9%. The implications of the findings are discussed.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations have been performed to study the influence of hybridization, substitution, and cooperativity on the tetrel bond in the complexes of PySiX3 (Py = pyridine and X = halogen). The tetrel bond becomes stronger in the order of p-PySiF3⋯NCH(sp) < p-PySiF3⋯NHCH2(sp2) < p-PySiF3⋯NH3(sp3). The electron-donating group in the electron donor strengthens the tetrel bond, and this effect is mainly achieved through electrostatic and polarization interactions. Tetrel bonding displays cooperative effects with triel bonding and chalcogen bonding, characterized by shorter binding distances and greater electron densities. The cooperative effects between triel/chalcogen bond and tetrel bond have been analyzed by molecular electrostatic potentials and charge transfer. Energy decomposition indicates that many-body effects are mainly caused by polarization energy. The geometries of Si⋯N interaction and its applications in crystal materials have been characterized and evidenced by a CSD research.  相似文献

In rainfed vineyards water deficits play a major role in determining berry yield and composition. Therefore, reliable indicators of vine water status might be of great value for the optimization of grape yield and quality. In the present study the feasibility of using hyperspectral reflectance indices related to plant biophysical properties at predicting berry yield and quality attributes in rainfed vineyards is assessed. The study was conducted on Vitis vinifera cv. Chardonnay in commercial vineyards in the D.O. Penedès region (Catalonia, Spain) over two consecutive years (2007–2008). Field measurements of fractional intercepted Photosynthetic Active Radiation (fIPAR), canopy reflectance, predawn water potential (Ψp) and the canopy to air temperature difference at midday (ΔTmidday) were conducted at the stage of veraison. Yield, Total Soluble Solids (TSS), Titratable Acidity (TA) and the ratio TSS/TA (maturation index, IMAD) were determined at harvest. Contrasted water availability among vineyards prompted considerable variation in berry yield and quality attributes. Across years, higher yield was accompanied by higher TA (r = 0.59, p < 0.01) and lower IMAD (r = ? 0.63, p < 0.01) while no significant relationship was observed between yield and TSS. Yield was related to canopy vigor (fIPAR) in a variable extend: in 2007, yield was positively related to fIPAR (r = 0.71, p < 0.05) while yield was found to decrease along with increasing fIPAR in 2008 (r = ? 0.62, p < 0.05). Contrastingly, NDVI provided consistent estimates of yield across years (r = 0.57, p < 0.05). These results suggest that NDVI might be more appropriate to characterize the effects of varying water availability on yield than fIPAR. In addition, yield was found to be related to ΔTmidday (r = ? 0.63 and r = ? 0.66, in 2007 and 2008, respectively). Accordingly, the Water Index (WI), an indicator of vine water status, provided robust estimates of yield across years (r = 0.61, p < 0.01). The strength of the correlation between NDVI and WI vs. yield suggests that yield was influenced by changes in both leaf area (intercepted light) and photosynthesis (stomatal aperture) in a variable extent according to the timing and severity of water deficits in the years of study. Berry quality attributes did not show significant relationships against fIPAR but were related to ΔTmidday. Accordingly, NDVI did not show significant correlation with berry quality attributes, while WI was found to be consistently related to TA (r = 0.70, p < 0.01) and IMAD (r = ? 0.71, p < 0.01) across years. The results obtained suggest that the WI might provide reliable estimates of berry quality attributes in vineyards experiencing moderate to severe water deficits with potential application in precision viticulture activities such as selective harvesting according to grape quality attributes as well as for ripening assessment.  相似文献

The amount of sleep obtained between shifts is influenced by numerous factors including the length of work and rest periods, the timing of the rest period relative to the endogenous circadian cycle and personal choices about the use of non-work time. The current study utilised a real-world live-in mining environment to examine the amount of sleep obtained when access to normal domestic, family and social activities was restricted. Participants were 29 mining operators (26 male, average age 37.4 ± 6.8 years) who recorded sleep, work and fatigue information and wore an activity monitor for a cycle of seven day shifts and seven night shifts (both 12 h) followed by either seven or fourteen days off. During the two weeks of work participants lived on-site. Total sleep time was significantly less (p < 0.01) while on-site on both day (6.1 ± 1.0 h) and night shifts (5.7 ± 1.5 h) than days off (7.4 ± 1.4 h). Further, night shift sleep was significantly shorter than day-shift sleep (p < 0.01). Assessment of subjective fatigue ratings showed that the sleep associated with both days off and night shifts had a greater recovery value than sleep associated with day shifts (p < 0.01). While on-site, participants obtained only 6 h of sleep indicating that the absence of competing domestic, family and social activities did not convert to more sleep. Factors including shift start times and circadian influences appear to have been more important.  相似文献

Multi-temporal C-band SAR data (C-HH and C-VV), collected by ERS-2 and ENVISAT satellite systems, are compared with field observations of hydrology (i.e., inundation and soil moisture) and National Wetland Inventory maps (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) of a large forested wetland complex adjacent to the Patuxent and Middle Patuxent Rivers, tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Multi-temporal C-band SAR data were shown to be capable of mapping forested wetlands and monitoring hydroperiod (i.e., temporal fluctuations in inundation and soil moisture) at the study site, and the discrimination of wetland from upland was improved with 10 m digital elevation data. Principal component analysis was used to summarize the multi-temporal SAR data sets and to isolate the dominant temporal trend in inundation and soil moisture (i.e., relative hydroperiod). Significant positive, linear correlations were found between the first principal component and percent area flooded and soil moisture. The correlation (r2) between the first principal component (PC1) of multi-temporal C-HH SAR data and average soil moisture was 0.88 (p = < .0001) during the leaf-off season and 0.87 (p = < .0001) during the leaf-on season, while the correlation between PC1 and average percent area inundated was 0.82 (p = < .0001) and 0.47 (p = .0016) during the leaf-off and leaf-on seasons, respectively. When compared to field data, the SAR forested wetland maps identified areas that were flooded for 25% of the time with 63–96% agreement and areas flooded for 5% of the time with 44–89% agreement, depending on polarization and time of year. The results are encouraging and justify further studies to attempt to quantify the relative SAR-derived hydroperiod classes in terms of physical variables and also to test the application of SAR data to more diverse landscapes at a broader scale. The present evidence suggests that the SAR data will significantly improve routine wooded wetland mapping.  相似文献

In this study, an instructional design model was employed for restructuring a teacher education course with technology. The model was applied in a science education method course, which was offered in two different but consecutive semesters with a total enrollment of 111 students in the fall semester and 116 students in the spring semester. Using tools, such as multimedia authoring tools in the fall semester and modeling software in the spring semester, teacher educators designed high quality technology-infused lessons for science and, thereafter, modeled them in classroom for preservice teachers. An assessment instrument was constructed to assess preservice teachers’ technology competency, which was measured in terms of four aspects, namely, (a) selection of appropriate science topics to be taught with technology, (b) use of appropriate technology-supported representations and transformations for science content, (c) use of technology to support teaching strategies, and (d) integration of computer activities with appropriate inquiry-based pedagogy in the science classroom. The results of a MANOVA showed that preservice teachers in the Modeling group outperformed preservice teachers’ overall performance in the Multimedia group, F = 21.534, p = 0.000. More specifically, the Modeling group outperformed the Multimedia group on only two of the four aspects of technology competency, namely, use of technology to support teaching strategies and integration of computer activities with appropriate pedagogy in the classroom, F = 59.893, p = 0.000, and F = 10.943, p = 0.001 respectively. The results indicate that the task of preparing preservice teachers to become technology competent is difficult and requires many efforts for providing them with ample of opportunities during their education to develop the competencies needed to be able to teach with technology.  相似文献

PurposeTo compare the diagnostic performances of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and multivariable logistic regression (LR) analyses for differentiating between malignant and benign lung nodules on computed tomography (CT) scans.MethodsThis study evaluated 135 malignant nodules and 65 benign nodules. For each nodule, morphologic features (size, margins, contour, internal characteristics) on CT images and the patient’s age, sex and history of bloody sputum were recorded. Based on 200 bootstrap samples generated from the initial dataset, 200 pairs of ANN and LR models were built and tested. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, Hosmer–Lemeshow statistic and overall accuracy rate were used for the performance comparison.ResultsANNs had a higher discriminative performance than LR models (area under the ROC curve: 0.955 ± 0.015 (mean ± standard error) and 0.929 ± 0.017, respectively, p < 0.05). The overall accuracy rate for ANNs (90.0 ± 2.0%) was greater than that for LR models (86.9 ± 1.6%, p < 0.05). The Hosmer–Lemeshow statistic for the ANNs was 8.76 ± 6.59 vs. 6.62 ± 4.03 (p > 0.05) for the LR models.ConclusionsWhen used to differentiate between malignant and benign lung nodules on CT scans based on both objective and subjective features, ANNs outperformed LR models in both discrimination and clinical usefulness, but did not outperform for the calibration.  相似文献

Impaired water quality caused by human activity and the spread of invasive plant and animal species has been identified as a major factor of degradation of coastal ecosystems in the tropics. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the performance of AnnAGNPS (Annualized Non-Point Source Pollution Model), in simulating runoff and soil erosion in a 48 km2 watershed located on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. The model was calibrated and validated using 2 years of observed stream flow and sediment load data. Alternative scenarios of spatial rainfall distribution and canopy interception were evaluated. Monthly runoff volumes predicted by AnnAGNPS compared well with the measured data (R2 = 0.90, P < 0.05); however, up to 60% difference between the actual and simulated runoff were observed during the driest months (May and July). Prediction of daily runoff was less accurate (R2 = 0.55, P < 0.05). Predicted and observed sediment yield on a daily basis was poorly correlated (R2 = 0.5, P < 0.05). For the events of small magnitude, the model generally overestimated sediment yield, while the opposite was true for larger events. Total monthly sediment yield varied within 50% of the observed values, except for May 2004. Among the input parameters the model was most sensitive to the values of ground residue cover and canopy cover. It was found that approximately one third of the watershed area had low sediment yield (0–1 t ha−1 y−1), and presented limited erosion threat. However, 5% of the area had sediment yields in excess of 5 t ha−1 y−1. Overall, the model performed reasonably well, and it can be used as a management tool on tropical watersheds to estimate and compare sediment loads, and identify “hot spots” on the landscape.  相似文献

Many MMORPG offer players the possibility to become a member of a guild, a hierarchical organization of characters with common objectives. Guild membership can be beneficial to game progress, and offer opportunities for social interaction. In the current study we focus on the MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW), with the main aim to examine whether guild commitment and players’ intention to remain in their guild can be predicted by players’ satisfaction, investments, and perceptions of alternatives to their guild. To this end, 165 WoW players completed an online questionnaire and answered questions related to their guild membership. They also completed the investment model scale which was reworded so all questions pertained to their guild and their fellow guild members. Results show that satisfaction level, quality of alternatives, and investment size significantly predict commitment level (p’s < .001), which in turn predicted likelihood of participants’ staying with their current guild (p < .001) and the number of guilds they had been a member of in the past (p < .001). Moreover, high levels of guild commitment were indicative of better mental health, whereas weekly hours of game play was negatively related to mental health. In the discussion, we conclude that interdependence theory and the investment model of commitment are applicable to online gaming environments, and we argue that commitment to one’s guild is one factor that could prevent the risks associated with online game play (i.e. problematic use).  相似文献

We present a parallel algorithm for solving thenext element search problemon a set of line segments, using a BSP-like model referred to as thecoarse grained multicomputer(CGM). The algorithm requiresO(1) communication rounds (h-relations withh=O(n/p)),O((n/p) log n) local computation, andO((n/p) log p) memory per processor, assumingn/pp. Our result implies solutions to the point location, trapezoidal decomposition, and polygon triangulation problems. A simplified version for axis-parallel segments requires onlyO(n/p) memory per processor, and we discuss an implementation of this version. As in a previous paper by Develliers and Fabri (Int. J. Comput. Geom. Appl.6(1996), 487–506), our algorithm is based on a distributed implementation of segment trees which are of sizeO(n log n). This paper improves onop. cit.in several ways: (1) It studies the more general next element search problem which also solves, e.g., planar point location. (2) The algorithms require onlyO((n/p) log n) local computation instead ofO(log p*(n/p) log n). (3) The algorithms require onlyO((n/p) log p) local memory instead ofO((n/p) log n).  相似文献

Aging and gender are factors that affect the variation of physical work capacity. The present paper highlights the importance of the metabolism used by ergonomics to establish the appropriate limits of loads at work. This study compares the aerobic capacity of people from 20 to 71 years old split in 5 different groups. The laboratory experiment tested 33 volunteers (19 women and 14 men). A submaximal step test was used to measure the VO2 using a portable breath by breath metabolic system and a telemetric heart rate monitor. Three methods to estimate the VO2max were compared: 1) a direct measurement of VO2, 2) estimation by heart rate, and 3) a step test method using predetermined charts. Significant difference was encountered among the estimation methods as well as among the age ranges (F2,92 = 6.43, p < 0.05 y F4,92 = 7.18, p < 0.05 respectively). The method of direct measurement and the method of predetermined charts were different for the estimation of the VO2max with a confidence level of 95%. The method of predetermined charts is better adapted for males and people younger than 30 years. The estimation through non invasive heart rate apparatus was a good appraiser of the maximal oxygen consumption considering both genders and all the age groups.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to explore the factors which impact the acceptance of an e-learning course by teachers of elementary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The survey involved 228 teachers from 68 different primary and secondary schools. These teachers took part in some of 16 different asynchronous on-line courses aimed at the use of modern technologies in education. It was found that the factors with major impact on the e-learning course acceptance include the voluntary participation of teachers in the course and the positive expectations held before the course start (p < 0.001). Working through the course on one’s own and the subjective evaluation of various aspects of the course plays an important role as well (p < 0.001). The factors which had no statistically significant impact (p > 0.05) included the teacher’s age, gender, type of school, prior experience with e-learning, individual habits in terms of completing voluntary tasks and taking notes, the involvement in discussions during the course and the time schedule of the course. We conclude that considerable attention should be paid to the psychological aspects of further education of Czech teachers using e-learning.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess sleep quality and comfort of participants diagnosed with low back pain and stiffness following sleep on individually prescribed mattresses based on dominant sleeping positions. Subjects consisted of 27 patients (females, n = 14; males, n = 13; age 44.8 yrs ± SD 14.6, weight 174 lb. ±SD 39.6, height 68.3 in. ± SD 3.7) referred by chiropractic physicians for the study. For the baseline (pretest) data subjects recorded back and shoulder discomfort, sleep quality and comfort by visual analog scales (VAS) for 21 days while sleeping in their own beds. Subsequently, participants’ beds were replaced by medium-firm mattresses specifically layered with foam and latex based on the participants’ reported prominent sleeping position and they again rated their sleep comfort and quality daily for the following 12 weeks. Analysis yielded significant differences between pre- and post means for all variables and for back pain, we found significant (p < 0.01) differences between the first posttest mean and weeks 4 and weeks 8–12, thus indicating progressive improvement in both back pain and stiffness while sleeping on the new mattresses. Additionally, the number of days per week of experiencing poor sleep and physical discomfort decreased significantly. It was concluded that sleep surfaces are related to sleep discomfort and that is indeed possible to reduce pain and discomfort and to increase sleep quality in those with chronic back pain by replacing mattresses based on sleeping position.  相似文献

A fundamental result of Büchi states that the set of monadic second-order formulas true in the structure (Nat,  <) is decidable. A natural question is: what monadic predicates (sets) can be added to (Nat,  <) while preserving decidability? Elgot and Rabin found many interesting predicates P for which the monadic theory of 〈Nat, <,  P〉 is decidable. The Elgot and Rabin automata theoretical method has been generalized and sharpened over the years and their results were extended to a variety of unary predicates. We give a sufficient and necessary model-theoretical condition for the decidability of the monadic theory of (Nat, <, P1,  , Pn).We reformulate this condition in an algebraic framework and show that a sufficient condition proposed previously by O. Carton and W.Thomas is actually necessary. A crucial argument in the proof is that monadic second-order logic has the selection and the uniformization properties over the extensions of (Nat, <) by monadic predicates. We provide a self-contained proof of this result.  相似文献

Self-association (i.e. interchain aggregation) behavior of atactic poly(ethacrylic acid) PEA in dilute aqueous solution as function of degree-of-neutralization by Na+ counter-ions (i.e. charge fraction f) was investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. Aggregation is found to occur in the range 0  f ≤0.7 in agreement with experimental results compared at specified polymer concentration Cp = 0.36 mol/l in dilute solution. The macromolecular solution was characterized and analysed for radius-of-gyration, torsion angle distribution, inter and intra-molecular hydrogen bonds, radial distribution functions of intermolecular and inter-atomic pairs, inter-chain contacts and solvation enthalpy. The PEA chains form aggregate through attractive inter-chain interaction via hydrogen bonding, in the range f < 0.7, in agreement with experimental observation. The numbers of inter-chain contacts decreases with f. A critical structural transition occurs at f = 0.7, observed via simulations for the first time, in Rg as well as inter-chain H-bonds. The inter-chain distance increases with f due to repulsive interactions between COO− groups on the chains. PEA-PEA electrostatic interactions dominant solvation enthalpy. The PEA solvation enthalpy becomes increasingly favorable with increase in f. The transition enthalpy change, in going from uncharged (acid) state to fully charged state (f = 1) is unfavorable towards aggregate formation.  相似文献
