Although the average cadmium intake in Finland is about 10 μg day-1, some risk groups can be identified. This study assessed cadmium intake from the consumption of moose meat, liver and kidneys by moose hunters. Consumption data from a postal questionnaire were combined with a representative database on moose cadmium concentrations. Cadmium intakes were calculated as point estimates for all respondents (n = 711), for those consuming moose meat, liver and/or kidneys, and for the highest decile of those. Probabilistic modelling using the Monte Carlo technique was used to simulate the distribution of dietary cadmium exposure. Of the respondents, 69% consumed moose liver and only 23% moose kidneys. The consumption of moose liver or kidneys significantly increased cadmium intake, whereas moose meat (median consumption 17 kg year-1 person-1) contributed only slightly (0.16 μg day-1 person-1) to the daily total cadmium intake. In the simulation, 10% of the moose hunters had an intake of > 8.76 μg day-1 (14.6% of PTWI for a 60-kg person) from moose. Point estimates provided only a partial understanding of the potential exposure. Simulated distributions of intake were more useful in characterizing exposure. The study revealed that heavy users of moose organs have a relatively narrow safety margin from the levels of cadmium probably causing adverse health effects.  相似文献

Ninety two samples of child-consumed candies and candy packages were analyzed for seven heavy metals. Lead (Pb) was detected at concentrations of 110.3–6394.1 mg kg−1 in ten of 92 candy packages. The directive factor of Pb contamination had originated in the lead-based ink of the outer cover. Particularly, Pb was detected at high concentrations in case of green- or yellow-colored packages. Chromium (Cr) was detected at high concentrations in cases where Pb was also detected at high concentrations, and the Cr levels ranged from 136.9 mg kg−1 to 1429.3 mg kg−1 in seven of the 92 candy packages. Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] was detected at 87–105.0% of the total Cr in polypropylene-coated wrappers with printed outer covers. The migration of Cr(VI) increased with elution time up to 0.20 μg (cm2)−1 for 30 days in basic (pH 10.0) solution; however, there were no migrations in acidic (pH 4.0) and neutral (pH 7.0) solutions. The migration of Pb increased with elution time up to 0.65 μg (cm2)−1 and 0.28 μg (cm2)−1 in basic (pH 10.0) and acidic (pH 4.0) solutions, respectively. However, any migration was hardly observed in neutral (pH 7.0) solution.  相似文献

The aim was to estimate the adult exposure to cadmium, lead and mercury from daily household diets in Eastern Poland (Lublin city and province). A duplicate diet approach was used to top collect diet samples in 1990, 1993, 1998 and 2002. Cadmium and lead contents were measured by flame atomic absorption and the mercury content was measured by cold vapour atomic absorption spectrometry. The intake of the three elements was calculated using FOOD computer software. The exposure to cadmium taken with daily diets was from 16.4 - 34.5 μg/person/day (27-58% PTWI). The lead exposure was 66.5 - 106 μg/person/day (31-49% PTWI), which posed a smaller risk, and the exposure risk to mercury of 4.08-6.65 μg/person/day (10-16% PTWI) was even lower.  相似文献

Liquid-crystalline co-polyesters (e.g. a random copolyester based on p-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) and 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid (HNA) known as Vectra A950) offer good barrier properties, but for food-contact use require overall and specific migration testing. For Vectra A950 films, the highest overall migration level obtained was 2.3 mg kg-1 in olive oil (10 days at 40°C) well below the EC limit of 60 mg kg-1. The highest specific migration for p-hydroxybenzoic acid was 15.2 μg dm-2 in olive oil (2h at 175°C). For 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid, the highest value obtained was 4.3 μg dm-2 in 10% ethanol (4h at 100°C), although it was not on the EC positive and cannot yet be used for food-contact materials. At conditions considered as severe, the estimated daily intake for p-hydroxybenzoic acid was calculated as 11.9 μg/person day-1 and for 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid it was 5.3 μg/person day-1. The results exceed the threshold of regulation of 1.5 μg/person day-1.  相似文献

The muscle tissue of eels was analysed for metals (Hg, Cd, Cu and Zn), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organochlorine pesticides (DDTs) to ascertain whether the concentrations exceeded the maximum levels fixed by the European Commission. Zinc showed the highest concentrations (mean: 20.2 μg g−1 wet wt), followed by copper (mean: 0.58 μg g−1 wet wt), mercury (mean: 0.18 μg g−1 wet wt) and cadmium (mean: 0.03 μg g−1 wet wt). None of the fish samples analysed presented metal concentrations exceeding the proposed limits. Among the organochlorine pesticides, only p,p′-DDE and p,p′-DDT were found with mean values of 19.2 and 3.0 ng g−1 wet wt, respectively, while mean concentrations of PCBs were 94.0 ng g−1 wet wt. With regard to DDT and its metabolites the concentrations were well below the maximum residue limit (MRL), while the mean PCB concentrations, calculated as the sum of the seven “target” congeners indicated by the European Union, exceeded the established limit. From an ecotoxicological point of view, the concentrations of metals and organochlorine compounds reflect a comparatively clean and pollution-free environment. These concentrations may be, thus, considered as useful background levels to which to refer for comparison within the Adriatic Sea.  相似文献

The mercury content of 25 samples of fish and seafood products most frequently consumed in Spain was determined. A simple method comprising cold vapour and atomic absorption spectrometry was used to determine separately inorganic and organic mercury. In all samples inorganic mercury content was below 50 µg kg-1. There was wide variability, among not only the mercury levels of different fish species, but also for different samples of the same species — with the methylmercury content ranging from below 54 to 662 µg kg-1. The highest mean methylmercury content was found in fresh tuna. Based on an average total fish consumption of 363 g/person week-1, the methylmercury intake was estimated to be 46.2 µg/person week-1. Therefore, the mercury intake of Spanish people with a body weight ≤ 60 kg is lower than the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) of 1.6 µg kg-1 body weight, but exceeds the US National Research Council (NRC) limit of 0.7 µg kg-1 body weight week-1 based on a benchmark dose.  相似文献

Total mercury was measured in 259 total diet food composites from two Canadian cities. Levels were generally low, with 46% of the composites having concentrations below the limit of detection, which ranged from 0.026 to 0.506 ng g-1. The fish category contained the highest mercury concentrations, which averaged 67 ng g-1 and ranged from 24 to 148 ng g-1. All composites were below the Canadian guideline for total mercury in fish of 0.5 ppm. Dietary intakes of mercury averaged 0.022 μg kg-1 body weight/day (μg kg-1 day-1), and ranged from 0.012 μg kg-1 day-1 for females over 65 years old to 0.062 μg kg-1 day-1 for 0-1-month-old infants. For fish consumers, fish contributed to more than half of the ingested mercury. All intakes were well below Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intakes, expressed on a daily basis, of 0.71 μg kg-1 day-1 total mercury and 0.47 μg kg-1 day-1 methyl mercury, and also below a recent Health Canada recommended maximum methyl mercury intake of 0.2 μg kg-1 day-1 for children and women of child-bearing age.  相似文献

An estimation of the dietary exposure of French consumers to 21 essential and non-essential mineral elements using duplicate meals (breakfast and lunch) purchased from catering establishments was investigated after digestion by a closed vessel microwave procedure and quantification by ICP-MS. Daily dietary exposure estimates for metals and minerals were compared with the Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intakes (PTWI), the Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) or the Acceptable Daily Intakes (ADI), as established by the FAO/WHO to estimate the risk of toxicity, and the US Recommended Daily Allowances (US RDA) or the Estimate Safe & Adequate Daily Dietary Intakes (ESADDI). Moreover, comparisons were made with those from previous French studies as well as those from other countries. The estimated mean daily intakes were 11 μg for lithium, 3.42 g for sodium, 192 mg for magnesium, 2.03 mg for aluminium, 3.64 g for potassium, 642 mg for calcium, 154 μg for chromium, 12.3 mg for iron, 2.15 mg for manganese, 4 μg for cobalt, 74 μg for nickel, 925 μg for copper, 10.2 mg for zinc, 147 μg for arsenic, 66 μg for selenium, 112 μg for molybdenum, 3.6 μg for cadmium, 2.32 mg for tin, 3 μg for antimony, 9 μg for mercury and 34 μg for lead. For the non-essential (toxic) elements, aluminium, tin, antimony, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and lead, the daily intake estimates were far below tolerable limits; and similar or somewhat lower than their respective PTWI, ADI, TDI, ESADDI and US RDA for individual minerals and essential trace elements, with good agreement with other country studies. The performance of the multi-elemental ICP-MS technique was also evaluated.  相似文献

Mercury and cadmium concentrations were measured in the flesh and liver (or hepatopancreas) of albacore (Thunnus alalunga) and horned octopus (Eledone moschata) to establish whether the concentrations exceeded the maximum levels fixed by the European Commission. In both species, mercury and cadmium mean concentrations were higher in liver (albacore: mercury = 2.41 μg g-1 wet wt, cadmium = 9.22 μg g-1 wet wt; horned octopus: mercury = 0.76 μg g-1 wet wt, cadmium = 6.72 μg g-1 wet wt) than in flesh (albacore: mercury = 1.56 μg g-1 wet wt, cadmium = 0.05 μg g-1 wet wt; horned octopus: mercury = 0.36 μg g-1 wet wt, cadmium = 0.33 μg g-1). Mercury concentrations exceeding the prescribed legal limit of 1 μg g-1 wet wt were found in almost all albacore samples (flesh: 71.4%; liver: 85.7%). For horned octopus, concentrations above 0.5 μg g-1 wet wt were observed solely in hepatopancreas, while in flesh, the concentrations were below this limit in all the samples examined. Of the flesh samples of albacore, 42.8% exceeded the proposed tolerance for cadmium for human consumption, whilst for horned octopus, the established limit was not exceeded in any sample.  相似文献

A survey of the levels of cadmium, lead and arsenic in different types of rice available on the Swedish retail market was carried out in 2001-03. The types of rice included long and short grain, brown, white, and parboiled white rice. The mean levels found were as follows: total As: 0.20 mg kg-1, inorganic As: 0.11 mg kg-1; Cd: 0.024 mg kg-1; and Pb: 0.004 mg kg-1. ICP-MS was used for the determination of As (total and inorganic) after acid digestion. Lead and cadmium were determined using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) after dry ashing. In countries where rice is a staple food, it may represent a significant contribution in relation to the provisional tolerable weekly intake for Cd and inorganic As.  相似文献

Duplicate hospital diet samples obtained over 1 week in 2001 were analysed to estimate the daily intake of plasticizers and the results were compared with those obtained in 1999. The plasticizers quantified in this study were: dibutyl phthalate, butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP), di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (DEHA), diisononyl adipate (DINA) and O-acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC). Dipropyl, dipentyl, dihexyl and dicyclohexyl phthalate were also analysed but not detected. The analytical procedure for this follow-up study was essentially the same as in the previous one. Detection limits were 0.1-15.6 ng g-1 for each plasticizer. One-week duplicate diet samples provided by three hospitals in three remote prefectures of Japan were analysed as individual meals. DEHP was detected at 6-675 ng g-1 in 62 of 63 meals, significantly lower levels compared with those detected in 1999. Levels of DEHA and DINP also decreased. The mean intake of plasticizers estimated from all samples was 160 μg DEHP day-1, 12.5 μg DEHA day-1, 4.7 μg DINP day-1 and 3.4 μg BBP day-1. Levels of DINA were relatively high in meals from one hospital: in those meals, the average daily intake was 1338 μg day-1. Those of ATBC were also higher in meals from another hospital: the average daily intake was 1228 μg day-1. The sources of DINA and ATBC can be cling-film or sausage packaging.  相似文献

A database has been compiled with the levels of important contaminants (mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides) measured from 2002 to 2005 in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) grown in Belgium according to the organic and conventional farming systems. Assuming no further change in contaminant levels during cereal processing and during the preparation of foodstuffs, conservative intakes are estimated for the consumers of cereal-based products such as flour, bread, breakfast cereals, dough and pastry. The results show that for the consumer of organic foodstuffs, estimated daily intakes are 0.56 µg deoxynivalenol (DON), 0.03 µg zearalenone (ZEA), 0.19 µg Cd, 0.28 µg Pb and 0.0006 µg Hg kg-1 body weight, taking into account the average contaminant levels in unprocessed grains and the average cereal products consumptions in Belgium. For the consumers of conventional foodstuffs, the corresponding estimated daily intakes are 0.99 µg DON, 0.06 µg ZEA, 0.17 µg Cd, 0.12 µg Pb and 0.0007 µg Hg kg-1 body weight. In addition, it appears that for the consumers of conventional products, intakes of some post-harvest insecticides have to be taken into account (0.11 µg chlorpyriphos-methyl, 0.2 µg dichlorvos and 0.24 µg pirimiphos-methyl kg-1 bw). When expressed as a percentage of the tolerable/acceptable daily intake (TDI/ADI), it seems that the corresponding estimated (conservative) intakes are the highest for DON (56% for organic and 99% for conventional cereal products), ZEA (16% for organic and 32% for conventional cereal products), and Cd (19% for organic and 17% for conventional cereal products), all other estimated intakes of contaminants (including pesticides) being lower than 10% of the TDI/ADI.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the levels of lead and cadmium in chicken, pork, beef, lamb and turkey samples (both meat and meat products), collected in the island of Tenerife (Spain). Lead and cadmium were measured by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Mean concentrations of lead and cadmium were 6.94 and 1.68 µg kg-1 in chicken meat, 5.00 and 5.49 µg kg-1 in pork meat, 1.91 and 1.90 µg kg-1 in beef meat and 1.35 and 1.22 µg kg-1 in lamb meat samples, respectively. Lead was below the detection limit in turkey samples and mean cadmium concentration was 5.49 µg kg-1. Mean concentrations of lead and cadmium in chicken meat product samples were 3.16 and 4.15 µg kg-1, 4.89 and 6.50 µg kg-1 in pork meat product, 6.72 and 4.76 µg kg-1 in beef meat product and 9.12 and 5.98 µg kg-1 in turkey meat product samples, respectively. The percentage contribution of the two considered metals to provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) was calculated for meat and meat products. Statistically significant differences were found for lead content in meats between the chicken and pork groups and the turkey and beef groups, whereas for cadmium concentrations in meats, significant differences were observed between the turkey and chicken, beef and lamb groups. In meat products, no clear differences were observed for lead and cadmium between the various groups.  相似文献

Effects of caffeine on human health   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Caffeine is probably the most frequently ingested pharmacologically active substance in the world. It is found in common beverages (coffee, tea, soft drinks), in products containing cocoa or chocolate, and in medications. Because of its wide consumption at different levels by most segments of the population, the public and the scientific community have expressed interest in the potential for caffeine to produce adverse effects on human health. The possibility that caffeine ingestion adversely affects human health was investigated based on reviews of (primarily) published human studies obtained through a comprehensive literature search. Based on the data reviewed, it is concluded that for the healthy adult population, moderate daily caffeine intake at a dose level up to 400 mg day-1 (equivalent to 6 mg kg-1 body weight day-1 in a 65-kg person) is not associated with adverse effects such as general toxicity, cardiovascular effects, effects on bone status and calcium balance (with consumption of adequate calcium), changes in adult behaviour, increased incidence of cancer and effects on male fertility. The data also show that reproductive-aged women and children are 'at risk' subgroups who may require specific advice on moderating their caffeine intake. Based on available evidence, it is suggested that reproductive-aged women should consume ≤ 300 mg caffeine per day (equivalent to 4.6 mg kg-1 bw day-1 for a 65-kg person) while children should consume ≤ 2.5 mg kg-1 bw day-1.  相似文献

A study of the voltammetric behaviour of the food colours brilliant blue FCF (C.I. 42090), erythrosine (C.I. 45430) and quinoline yellow (C.I. 47005) in the pH range 2-10 have been carried out by cathodic stripping voltammetry. At pH 4.5 (acetate buffer) with an accumulation potential of 0V and accumulation time of 30s, the voltammograms presented well-defined reduction peaks at potential - 0.76V for brilliant blue FCF, - 0.85V for quinoline yellow and - 0.54V for erythrosine. Linear calibration graphs were obtained from 8 to 80 μg l-1 brilliant blue, from 4 to 43 μg l-1 quinoline yellow and from 10 to 70 μg l-1 erythrosine. The method has been successfully applied to identify and quantify binary mixtures of these dyes and applied for determining brilliant blue FCF in commercial food products.  相似文献

The natural occurrence ofaflatoxin was investigated in layer feed and corn samples brought to Konya Veterinary Control and Research Institute Laboratory between 15 April and 15 December 2002. Seventy-eight samples (52 feeds, 26 corn samples) were analysed for total aflatoxin (B1 + B2 + G1 + G2) by an ELISA screening method. Aflatoxin contamination was determined in 37 feed samples (71.1%) and 15 corn samples (57.7%), with a range of1.5-133 μg kg-1. However, a majority ofthe aflatoxin contamination was less than 5 μg kg-1 (50% within the positive samples). Two feed samples and two corn samples exceeded the maximum tolerated levels in feed (20 μg kg-1) and feedstuffs (50 μg kg-1) for total flatoxin.  相似文献

Baby bottles are often made of polycarbonate plastic. Impurities remaining in the bottle from the monomer bisphenol A can migrate from the plastic bottles into baby food, thereby causing a health concern. Previous migration testing of new baby bottles showed only trace migration levels of the substance. In the present work, polycarbonate baby bottles were subjected to simulated use by dishwashing, boiling and brushing. Migration testing performed with both new and used bottles revealed a significant increase in migration of bisphenol A due to use. This finding might be explained by polymer degradation. Bisphenol A was determined in 200-ml samples of water food simulant by a method based on solid-phase extraction followed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The detection limit was 0.1 μg l-1. Twelve different polycarbonate baby bottles were tested by filling them with hot water (100°C) for 1 h. The mean bisphenol A level from new bottles was 0.23 + -0.12 μg l-1, while the mean levels from bottles subjected to simulated use were 8.4 + -4 μg l-1 (dishwashed 51 times) and 6.7 + -4 μg l-1 (dishwashed 169 times), respectively. None of the bottles released bisphenol A at levels that exceed the recently established provisional tolerable daily intake (0.01 mg kg-1 body weight/day) in the European Union.  相似文献
