Assessment of workload and arm position during different work sequences: a study with portable devices on construction workers 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
It is recognised that work related shoulder pain is overrepresented among construction workers compared to other occupations. Studies have shown that working with hands above shoulder level increases the shoulder load. Most studies have been confined to the laboratory. The present project was carried out to map the muscular engagement and postures of construction workers undertaking ceiling fitting, and to compare the results to those of the laboratory studies. Two ambulatory devices were used, one allowing recording of electromyographic (EMG) signals bilaterally from the trapezius muscle, and the other to record the position of both arms and back by means of measuring the angles between the vertical line and the back and both upper arms. These recordings were performed during 1.5–2 h work sequences. The results show that the work was mostly performed in an upright position, that both arms were used to a similar amount and that the workers for a large proportion of their working time had their upper arms at levels that are considered harmful in view of shoulder load. The EMG data showed that nearly 50% of the work was spent with trapezius activity that exceeded that of the reference contraction used (about 15% of maximal voluntary contraction) and that the time spent in muscular relaxation was 10%. It was concluded that the exposure of construction workers undertaking ceiling fitting meets the criteria formulated on the basis of laboratory experiments with respect to a high risk of acquiring chronic shoulder pain, due to rotator cuff tendinitis. 相似文献

In order to relate EMG signs of localized muscle fatigue to subjectively perceived muscle fatigue, a study was undertaken on 20 healthy volunteers exposing their right trapezius muscle by raising the arm to 90° of abduction. Every person performed two contractions: 0 kg hand load during 5 min and 2 kg hand load during 2.5 min. Surface EMG was recorded and analysed with respect to RMS amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF). Subjective muscle fatigue was estimated with a psychophysical rating scale (Borg's CR-10 Scale). At high load level we found a significant correlation between MPF and the CR-scores (r = ? 0.46), but at low load level there was no correlation. At high load level there was a linear decrease of MPF with increasing load dose, but at low load level the MPF did not change, despite significant subjective fatigue. There was a linear rise of the CR-score with increasing load dose, more pronounced at high load level. It was concluded, that at low load levels common in working life, MPF and subjective scores seem to provide different fatigue information. Moreover, the MPF did not seem to work as a valid estimator of muscle fatigue at this low load level. Caution is recommended if it is to be used in static low-load situations. 相似文献

In order to examine the effects of work surface height (WSH) on muscle activity, posture and discomfort during simulated pipetting, an experimental study was conducted using electromyography, electrogoniometry, video techniques and also qualitative data. The experimental design consisted of one independent variable (WSH with six heights) and 13 dependent variables. The levels of muscle strain and discomfort were significantly lower at the shoulder when the WSHs were low but thumb muscle activities and neck flexion levels were markedly higher at these WSHs compared to higher WSHs. To reduce shoulder strain, without raising thumb and neck strain beyond acceptable limits, the findings suggest that the height of a laboratory workbench should be at the level of the pipette tip when held in a standing position with the hand at elbow height. It was also found that pipetting should not be done in a seated posture. Practitioner Summary: An experimental study was conducted to examine the effects of work surface height on upper extremity muscle activity, posture and discomfort during simulated pipetting. The findings suggest that the laboratory workbench height should be at the pipette-tip level when held in a standing position with the hand at elbow height. 相似文献

Working at a computer is part of a large number of jobs and has been associated with upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders and back pain. The study evaluated the effects of a board attachment on upper extremity and back. The findings are mixed in that the board may have a positive effect in preventing back pain, but may be detrimental to upper extremities. Effect of a desk attachment board on upper extremity and trunk posture, and muscle activity was assessed in women video display terminal users. Participants completed a standard 20-min computer task under two conditions: 1) using a standard desk; 2) using a desk attachment board designed to support the forearms. Bilateral electromyography of the trapezius, multifidus and longissimus muscles and the right anterior deltoid and forearm extensor muscles was recorded. 3-D trunk and upper extremity posture was monitored. Participants were tested before and after 2 weeks of familiarisation with the board in their workplace. Perceived tension and discomfort were recorded before and after use of the board. Use of the board tended to increase muscle activity in the right trapezius and forearm extensor and to decrease muscle activity in the back. Perceived tension in the low back decreased slightly with the board. The board may be useful in reducing tension in the low back during computer work, but may adversely affect the upper extremities. 相似文献

Shoulder muscle fatigue development in young and older female adults during a repetitive manual task
Age may modify the association between occupational physical demand and muscle loading, and ultimately increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The goal of this study was to investigate age-related differences in shoulder muscle fatigue development during a repetitive manual task. Twenty participants in two age groups completed an 80-minute simulated low-intensity assembly task. Electromyographic (EMG) manifestation of muscle fatigue was observed in the upper trapezius, deltoid and infraspinatus muscles in both age groups, and coincided with an increase in the subjective ratings of perceived exertions. Compared with the younger group, older group showed a more monotonic decrease in EMG power frequency in the upper trapezius and deltoid muscles. However, the age-related difference in EMG amplitude was less consistent. Relative rest time of the upper trapezius muscle in the older group was less than the young group throughout the task. The observed patterns of EMG measures suggest that older participants may have disadvantages in fatigue resistance in the upper trapezius and posterior deltoid muscles during the simulated repetitive manual task. 相似文献
