Forty-two Holstein cows were paired by body condition and mature equivalent milk production and fed either a high or low energy diet for the last 16 to 18 wk of lactation. Cows fed the high energy diet produced more milk (21.6 versus 17.6 kg/d), gained more body condition, and were heavier after calving (641 versus 591 kg) than cows fed the low energy diet. Beginning wk 3 postpartum, half the cows in each prepartum energy group were fed supplemental dried brewers grains or soybean meal. During wk 1 to 15 of lactation, cows from the high energy group produced more 3.5% fat-corrected milk (33.8 versus 31.3 kg/d), consumed less dry matter (23.2 versus 24.4 kg/d), and lost more body weight (-2.7 versus .9 kg/wk) compared with cows from the low energy group. Milk production, feed intake, and body weight change were not affected by protein source. The high amount of bound nitrogen in dried brewers grains resulting in decreased intestinal digestibility of escape protein may have been responsible for the lack of production response to this protein source.  相似文献

Forty cows and twenty heifers were used to study the effects of dietary energy density during late gestation and early lactation on lactation performance and ruminal parameters. A 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments was used. During prepartum (-28 d to calving), animals were fed a low energy density diet [DL; 1.58 Mcal of net energy for lactation (NE(L))/kg, 40% neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and 38% nonfiber carbohydrate (NFC)] or a high energy diet (DH; 1.70 Mcal NE(L)/kg, 32% NDF and 44% NFC). After calving, half of the cows from each prepartum treatment group were assigned to a low energy density diet (L; 1.57 Mcal NE(L)/kg, 30% NDF and 41% NFC) or a high energy density diet (H; 1.63 Mcal NE(L)/kg, 25% NDF and 47% NFC) until d 20 postpartum. After d 20, all cows were fed H until d 70. Animals fed DH had 19.8% greater dry matter intake (DMI; % of body weight) and 21.5% greater energy intake than animals fed DL prepartum and the response was greater for cows compared to heifers. Animals fed DH had lower ruminal pH compared to animals fed DL, but no major changes in volatile fatty acid concentrations were observed. Effects of dietary energy density during prepartum on postpartum production responses were dependent on parity. Primiparous cows fed DL had higher 3.5% fat-corrected milk yield and milk fat production and percentage during the first 10 wk of lactation than those fed DH. Prepartum diet did not affect lactation performance of multiparous cows. Cows fed H had higher DMI and energy intake for the first 20 d of lactation compared to cows fed L. Diets did not affect DMI after the third wk of lactation. Milk production increased faster for cows fed H compared to cows fed L. Animals fed DL-L sequence of treatments tended to have the lowest energy intake during the first 10 wk of lactation. Prepartum treatments did not affect ruminal fermentation characteristics postpartum. Cows fed H had lower ruminal pH and higher propionate concentrations than cows fed L. No prepartum x postpartum interactions were observed for ruminal fermentation parameters. The effects of DH on prepartum DMI did not carry over to the postpartum period or influence early postpartum production. Increasing concentrate content of the diet immediately postpartum instead of delaying the increase until d 21 postpartum is associated with a higher rate of increase.in milk production and higher DMI.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of plane of energy intake prepartum on postpartum performance. Primiparous (n = 24) and multiparous (n = 23) Holsteins were randomly assigned by expected date of parturition to 1 of 3 prepartum energy intakes. A moderate energy diet [1.63 Mcal of net energy for lactation (NEL)/kg; 15% crude protein (CP)] was fed for either ad libitum intake (OVR) or restricted intake (RES) to supply 150 or 80% of National Research Council (2001) energy requirement, respectively, for dry cows in late gestation. To limit energy intake to 100% of NRC requirement at ad libitum dry matter intake (DMI), chopped wheat straw was included as 31.8% of dry matter (DM) in a control diet (CON; 1.21 Mcal of NEL/kg of DM; 14% CP). Multiparous and primiparous cows assigned to OVR gained body condition during the dry period [initial body condition score (BCS) = 3.3], but were not overconditioned by parturition (BCS = 3.5). Multiparous cows in the OVR group lost more BCS postpartum than multiparous RES or CON cows. Primiparous cows lost similar amounts of BCS among dietary treatment groups postpartum. Addition of chopped wheat straw to CON diets prevented a large decrease in DMI prepartum in both primiparous and multiparous cows. During the first 3 wk postpartum, DMI as a percentage of BW was lower for multiparous OVR cows than for multiparous RES cows. Prepartum diet effects did not carry over through the entire 8-wk lactation period. Because of greater mobilization of body stores, OVR cows had greater milk fat percentage and greater 3.5% fat-corrected milk yield during the first 3 wk postpartum. Multiparous cows assigned to OVR experienced a 55% decrease in energy balance and primiparous cows a 40% decrease in energy balance during the last 3 wk before parturition, compared with CON or RES cows that had little change. Multiparous cows fed OVR had a greater contribution of energy from body energy reserves to milk energy output than either CON or RES cows. Overfeeding energy prepartum resulted in large changes in periparturient energy balance. Even in the absence of overconditioning, a large change in DMI and energy balance prepartum influenced postpartum DMI and BCS loss, especially for multiparous cows. Chopped wheat straw was effective at controlling energy intake prepartum, although primiparous cows did not achieve predicted DMI. Even so, controlling or restricting energy intake in primiparous cows was not detrimental to lactational performance over the first 8 wk of lactation.  相似文献

Effects of supplemental prilled long-chain fatty acids on lactation performance during heat stress were examined using eight multiparous Holstein cows in a replicated 4 x 4 Latin square design with 15-d periods. Cows were ruminally cannulated and were assigned randomly to one of four treatments in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. Factors were 0 or 5% supplemental fat and thermoneutral or heat stress conditions. Cows were housed in environmental chambers with thermoneutral conditions of 20.5 degrees C and 38% relative humidity for 24 h/d or heat stress conditions of 31.8 degrees C and 56% relative humidity for 14 h/d and 25.9 degrees C with 56% relative humidity for 10 h/d. Isonitrogenous diets (17% CP) containing 50% alfalfa silage and 50% concentrate were offered for ad libitum intake. Diets contained 1.64 or 1.83 Mcal NEL/kg DM. No diet by environment interactions were significant. Milk fat percentage (3.46 vs. 3.15%) and 3.5% FCM (31.5 vs. 29.2 kg/d) were higher for cows fed 5 vs. 0% fat. Dry matter intake, milk yield, and milk protein percentage did not differ between diets. Heat stress decreased DMI, milk yield, 3.5% FCM, and milk protein percentage but did not affect milk fat percentage. Results suggest that supplemental fat at 5% of diet DM enhances lactation performance similarly under thermoneutral and heat stress conditions.  相似文献

Forty lactating Holstein cows averaging 55 days in milk were used in a randomized block designed experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of ruminally protected Met and Lys compared with that of ruminally undegradable protein for supporting lactation. Cows were fed total mixed diets for 15 wk. Diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous with the same base ingredients resulting in base crude protein percentage of 15.5. Supplemental crude protein supplied by urea, soybean meal, or a 50:50 (wt/wt) mixture of fish and blood meal increased total dietary nitrogen to 18.0% of diet DM. Two additional diets consisted of the basal diets soybean meal and urea, which were supplemented with ruminally protected DL-Met and Lys-HCL at 10 and 25 g/d, respectively (soybean meal + amino acids (AA), urea + AA). Mean measures of dry matter intake, milk yield, milk protein percentage, and milk fat percentage were not affected by protein supplement. Milk protein yield, milk fat yield, casein yield, and casein percentage also were not affected by source of supplemental protein. Results indicate that at the level of crude protein intake relative to milk production in this experiment, the source of protein did not affect lactational performance.  相似文献

This study was designed to evaluate lactational responses of cows fed corn silage (CS) or alfalfa silage (AS) as primary forage source when the diet was balanced for recommended (RP) or excessive (HP) amounts of rumen degradable protein (RDP) and undegradable protein (RUP) according to the recommendations of the National Research Council (NRC). A second objective was to evaluate different sources of variations in milk urea N (MUN). The total mixed rations included 55% forage on a dry matter (DM) basis as either 14% CS and 41% AS or 14% AS and 41% CS. Diets were offered to 48 multiparous Holstein cows (body weight = 652 kg) that were assigned randomly to treatments arranged as a 2 x 2 factorial in 12 complete blocks based on calving date. Data collected during wk 4 to 12 of lactation were adjusted to those obtained from a pretreatment diet fed during wk 1 to 3. Crude protein (CP) averaged 16.5, 18.0, 16.2, and 17.1% of DM in the AS-RP; AS-HP; CS-RP; and CS-HP diets, respectively. Overall DM intake (DMI) was 1.5 kg/d lower than predicted by NRC (24.6 vs. 26.1 kg/d), but 3.5% fat-corrected milk (FCM) was higher than expected (46.1 vs. 45.0 kg/d). The responses to a reduction in dietary protein were independent of primary forage source, except for milk true protein (TP) percentage. Primary forage source did not influence DMI, 3.5% FCM, TP yield, or MUN. However, compared with the AS-based diets, cows fed CS-based diets produced more milk (49.0 vs. 46.4 kg/d), less fat (3.07% vs. 3.54% and 1500 vs. 1651 g/d), and tended to gain more body weight. There were no benefits to feeding diets above NRC protein recommendations, regardless of forage source. Reducing CP from 17.5 to 16.4% of diet DM did not alter milk yield (47.7 kg/d) or milk TP yield (1293 g/d), but lowered N intake by 65 g/d (700 vs. 635 g/d) and lowered MUN by 1 unit (12.7 vs. 11.7 mg/dL). A positive correlation between MUN and production efficiency (3.5% FCM/DMI) on wk 3 of lactation suggested that body protein mobilization might impact MUN in early lactation. The correlation between MUN and DMI tended to be negative in wk 3, but was positive in wk 6 to 12 of lactation. The same was true for the correlation between MUN and somatic cell score. Regression analysis of the postpeak lactation data of this study indicated that the expected MUN was essentially 12 mg/dL when NRC-predicted RDP and RUP balances were 0 g/d, with a linear deviation of 0.1 and 0.03 mg/dL per 10 g of change in RDP and RUP balance, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, we evaluated the effects of dietary supplementation at two stages of lactation with various levels of Mepron85 (M85) and M85 plus DL-methionine (DL-Met) on milk production and composition of Holstein and Brown Swiss cows fed an alfalfa-hay and corn grain-based diet. In experiment 1, control diets were formulated to supplement, in early lactation [days in milk (DIM) = 73.2], concentrations of metabolizable methionine at 104% of the estimated requirements based on the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System. Treatment groups were fed the control diet plus 10, 20, or 30 g/d of M85 at 116, 128, or 139% of the estimated requirements for metabolizable methionine. The supplementation with 10 g/d in Brown Swiss and 30 g/d of M85 in Holstein cows increased milk yields and fat percentage, but had no effects on protein percentage. These data suggested that the estimated postruminal supply of metabolizable methionine in the control ration was limiting for maximum milk fat synthesis. Conversely, in experiment 2, the cosupplementation with M85 (15 g/d) plus DL-Met (15 g/d) to cows in midlactation (DIM = 140.5) did not influence fat percentage, but increased protein yield and percentage (+0.1%) in both Holstein and Brown Swiss, and lactose percentage (+0.18%) in Holstein cows. The supplementation with 15 g/d of M85 reduced milk and protein yields, whereas 15 g/d of DL-Met reduced protein percentage in four of the five experimental weeks for Holstein cows. We conclude that supplementation with M85, alone or in combination with DL-Met, may be used to influence milk composition, but these effects are influenced by dosage and type of supplemental methionine, breed, and stage of lactation.  相似文献

Improving body condition score of thin cows in late lactation is necessary, because cows that are thin at drying off exhibit decreased fertility postpartum and are at increased risk of disease and of being culled in the subsequent lactation. Offering a diet low in crude protein (CP) content in late lactation may help to improve body condition score (BCS) at drying off, whereas imposing an extended dry period (EDP) has been advocated as another way to increase BCS at calving. To test these hypotheses, 65 thin cows (mean BCS 2.25 at 14 wk precalving) were managed on 1 of 3 treatments between 13 and 9 wk prepartum: normal protein control {NP; grass silage + 5 kg/d of a normal protein concentrate [228 g of CP/kg of dry matter (DM)]}, low protein [LP; grass silage + 5 kg/d of a low-protein concentrate (153 g of CP/kg of DM)], or EDP (cows dried off at 13 wk precalving and offered a grass silage-only diet). Both NP and LP cows were dried off at wk 8 prepartum, after which all cows were offered a grass silage-only diet until calving. After calving, all cows were offered a common diet (supplying 11.1 kg of concentrate DM/cow per day) for 19 wk. Between 13 and 9 wk prepartum, LP cows had lower DM intake, milk yield, and body weight than NP cows. Whereas EDP cows had lower serum β-hydroxybutyrate and fatty acid concentrations than those of NP cows, BCS at wk 9 prepartum did not differ between treatments. Cows on the LP treatment continued to have lower DMI and BW than those of NP and EDP cows between 8 wk prepartum and calving, but only EDP cows had a higher BCS at calving. Treatment did not affect calving difficulty score or calf birth weight. Although all cows were offered a common diet postpartum, cows on the LP treatment had lower DM intake and milk fat + plus protein yield than cows on any other treatment during the 19-wk period postpartum, but we found no differences in any postpartum indicator of body tissue reserves. The treatments imposed from wk 13 to 9 prepartum had no effect on any fertility or health parameters examined postpartum. Extending the dry period for thin cows improved their BCS at calving but did not allow these cows to achieve the target BCS of 2.75, and we found no beneficial effects of this treatment on cow performance postpartum. Offering a lower-protein diet to thin cows in late lactation did not improve BCS at calving above that of cows on a normal protein diet, but had unexplained long-term negative effects on cow performance.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of low and high metabolizable protein (MP) diets when fed for ad libitum and controlled intake during the prepartum period on postpartum lactation performance and feeding behavior of dairy cows. Thirty-six multiparous Holstein cows were blocked by parity, expected calving date, and previous lactation milk yield at −21 d relative to expected calving and were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 close-up period dietary treatments providing low MP (LMP) or high MP (HMP) diets with controlled intake (CNI) or ad libitum intake (ALI). The concentrations of MP were 65 and 90 g/kg dry matter for LMP and HMP diets, respectively, whereas intake was controlled to supply 100 and 160% of the NRC (2001) energy requirements for CNI and ALI groups, respectively. The concentration of net energy for lactation (NEL) in the treatment diets was 1.50 Mcal/kg. All cows were fed a similar lactation diet after calving (1.50 Mcal/kg of NEL and 83.3 g/kg of MP). The HMP diet increased dry matter intake during the first 3 wk and tended to increase dry matter intake over the 9 wk of lactation. Meal size and eating rate increased in the ALI cows during the prepartum period. Meal frequency increased with the HMP diet during the postpartum period. Milk yield increased by 15.2% with the HMP diet over the 9 wk of lactation. The HMP diet increased energy-corrected milk (ECM) yield in CNI versus ALI cows, whereas the LMP diet increased ECM yield in ALI versus CNI cows over the 9 wk of lactation. The increase in ECM yield of LMP-ALI versus LMP-CNI cows was supported by greater body condition loss and serum β-hydroxybutyrate over the 9 wk of lactation. Taken together, these data indicate that prepartum controlled intake of a high protein diet can provide the benefits of both strategies.  相似文献

Holstein cows (n = 30) entering second or greater lactation were fed fat supplements (90 g/d of fatty acids) consisting of Ca salts of either palm fatty acid distillate (control) or a mixture of palm fatty acid distillate and mixed isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA, 30.4 g/ d) from 2 wk prepartum through 20 wk postpartum to determine whether CLA would inhibit milk fat synthesis during early lactation and, in turn, affect energy metabolism of dairy cows during the transition period and early lactation. Feeding CLA did not affect DMI or plasma concentrations of glucose, nonesterfied fatty acids, or beta-hydroxbutyrate during the prepartum period and did not affect postpartum DMI. Feeding CLA reduced milk fat content by 12.5% during early lactation; however, cows fed CLA tended to produce approximately 3 kg/d more milk during the first 20 wk of lactation. Feeding CLA tended to decrease the contribution of short- and medium-chain (C < or = 16) fatty acids to milk fat. Changes in milk yield, milk fat content, and milk fatty acid composition were not apparent until after the second week of lactation. Yield of 3.5% fat-corrected milk, milk protein content, milk protein composition, and calculated energy balance were not affected by treatment. Postpartum concentrations of glucose, nonesterfied fatty acids, and beta-hydroxbutyrate in plasma and hepatic content of glycogen and triglycerides were similar between treatments. These data imply that with CLA treatment in early lactation, dairy cows decreased milk fat synthesis and appeared to respond by partitioning more nutrients toward milk synthesis rather than improving net energy balance.  相似文献

Prolonged dietary energy restriction has been shown to influence the secretion of ovarian hormones and follicular development. Energy balance affects the ability of the cow to support a functional reproductive system during early lactation. Follicular aspiration is a tool that can be used to assess the impact of dietary energy and stage of lactation on follicle development in dairy cattle. Follicular aspiration was conducted twice weekly from d 30 to 100 postpartum in cows fed either 104 or 80% of NRC energy requirements. Oocyte numbers recovered increased linearly from d 30 to 100 postpartum. Cows on high energy diets produced more high quality oocytes, but also produced more poor quality oocytes than cows fed the lower energy diet. Follicles < 5 mm predominated throughout. Cows in early (d 28) and mid (d 117) lactation were used to assess stage of lactation effects on serum and follicular fluid hormones, and quality of oocytes recovered by follicular aspiration procedures for 10 wk. Serum IGF-1 decreased in early lactation cows, but increased in midlactation cows. Follicular fluid progesterone in early lactation cows decreased from 275 to 235 ng/ml, whereas in midlactation cows it increased from 65 to 550 ng/ml at aspiration wk 10. The percentage of high quality ova was higher in early lactation cows (11%) than midlactation cows (6%), but fell to 1% by aspiration wk 7 and increased to 10% by wk 10, whereas percentage of high quality ova in midlactation cows steadily declined to 2% by wk 10. Milk yield and energy balance affect patterns of folliculogenesis in lactating dairy cows.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate lactation response and AA utilization of early lactation cows fed 2 types of dried distillers grains with solubles (DG): regular (DDGS) or reduced-fat (RFDGS). Thirty-six Holstein cows 19.7 ± 2.6 d in milk at the start of the experiment were used in a randomized complete block design for 14 wk including a 2-wk covariate period. Treatments consisted of the following diets: 1) control (CON) diet containing 0% DG; 2) diet containing 22% DDGS; and 3) diet containing 20% RFDGS. Distillers grains replaced soybean meal, expeller soybean meal, and soyhulls from the CON diet. Diets were formulated to be similar in crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent fiber, and net energy for lactation concentrations. Dry matter intake (24.7 kg/d) and milk yield (39.3 kg/d) were similar for all diets. Milk fat and lactose percentages were unaffected by diets; however, protein percentage was greater for cows fed the DG diets compared with the CON diet. Consequently, milk protein yield was also greater for the DG diets compared with CON. Milk urea nitrogen decreased for cows fed DG diets and averaged 11.8, 10.9, and 10.1 mg/dL, respectively, for CON, DDGS, and RFDGS. Feed efficiency tended to be greater and N efficiency was greater for cows fed DG compared with CON. Body weight (711 kg), body weight change (+0.49 kg/d), and body condition score (3.36) were similar for all diets, but cows fed CON tended to gain more body condition (+0.14) than cows fed DG diets. Amino acid utilization was evaluated at the peak of milk production corresponding to wk 9 of lactation. Arterial Lys concentration was lower with DG diets (70.4, 58.6, and 55.8 μM/L). Cows fed DG had greater arterial Met concentration (21.3 μM) compared with CON (14.9 μM). Arterio-venous difference of Lys was similar across diets, whereas that of Met was greater for the DG diets compared with the CON diet (10.3 vs. 13.0 μM/L). Extraction efficiency of Lys by the mammary gland was greater for DG diets than for CON (76.1 vs. 65.4%). Mammary uptake of Lys (2.56 g/kg of milk) was similar for all diets, and the uptake of Met tended to increase in cows fed DG diets. Plasma glucose, triglyceride, and total cholesterol were unaffected by treatment; however, cows fed DG diets had lower β-hydroxybutyrate and tended to have lower nonesterified fatty acid concentrations than cows fed the CON diet. Despite the apparent deficiency of Lys, milk protein percentage was increased in cows fed DG diets.  相似文献

The objective was to compare the effects of 3 management systems in high-yielding dairy cows on metabolic profiles and milk production. Thirty-six multiparous Brown Swiss cows were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatment groups (n = 12 cows/group): the control (C) group, in which cows were dried off 56 d before calving and milked twice daily throughout next lactation (305 d); the once daily milking (ODM) group, in which cows were dried off 56 d before calving and milked once daily for the first 4 wk of lactation and twice daily for the remaining lactation; and the continuous milking (CM) group, in which cows were milked twice daily until calving and also during the subsequent lactation. Serum glucose concentrations decreased between wk 1 and 4 exclusively in C cows. Serum concentrations of NEFA and BHBA in the first 4 wk of lactation were highest in C cows compared with ODM and CM cows. Decreased backfat thickness during early lactation and reduction of body condition score were markedly more pronounced in C cows compared with ODM and CM cows. Mean lactational milk yield of C cows [11,310 ± 601 kg of energy-corrected milk (ECM)/305 d] was approximately 16% higher compared with ODM cows (9,531 ± 477 kg of ECM/305 d) and CM cows (9,447 ± 310 kg of ECM/305 d). The lactation curve of CM cows compared with C cows was characterized by a similar time of peak yield (wk 3), a reduced peak yield, and no obvious differences in persistency. Mean percentage of milk protein was significantly higher for CM cows (3.91%) compared with C cows (3.52%). In contrast, once daily milking was accompanied by a reduced and significantly delayed peak yield (wk 8) compared with the control treatment, whereas persistency was better and milk protein (3.79%) was higher in ODM cows than in C cows. In conclusion, continuous milking and once daily milking, targeting the interval before or after calving, respectively, substantially reduced the metabolic challenge of fresh cows and improved milk protein percentage. Continuous milking and once daily milking increased milk protein percentage markedly; furthermore, once daily milking during the first 4 wk of lactation improved the lactation curve.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to study dry matter intake (DMI), body condition, milk yield, and milk composition in cows with different body condition at the time of parturition. Twenty four multiparous cows with genetic merit for high or low milk fat content were assigned to one of three diets during the dry period. The treatments consisted of 6, 9, or 14.5 kg dry matter of a total mixed ration providing 71, 106, or 177 MJ/d of metabolizable energy and are referred to as low (L), medium (M), and high (H) dry period rations, respectively. These diets were introduced when the cows were dried off from the previous lactation, at least 8 wk before expected parturition. After parturition all cows were fed another total mixed ration ad libitum. The dietary treatments generated differences between the groups in body weight as well as in body condition score at parturition. There were no differences in DMI in early lactation, but during wk 6 to 12 DMI was lower among H cows, which was linked to a prolonged negative energy balance in this group. The milk yield was 38.5 +/- 0.8 kg of energy-corrected milk the first 4 wk postpartum and did not differ between treatments or selection lines. Body weight loss mainly occurred in lactation wk 1 to 4 and was greatest in H cows. The mobilization of body tissues was reflected in a higher milk fat content of C18:0 for the H cows during wk 1 to 4. There were no marked effects of treatments on milk fat content or milk protein content, which indicates that cows in early lactation have a potential to compensate for low nutrient intake during the dry period if they are offered a high-quality diet. The observed differences between treatments in DMI wk 6 to 12 could not be explained by differences in milk yield or mobilization of body tissues. Milk fat content was 4.7% in cows with genetic merit for high milk fat content and 4.2% in cows with genetic merit for low milk fat content. There was a tendency for higher body weight in cows with genetic merit for low milk fat content throughout the experiment.  相似文献

Forty-nine primiparous and 44 multiparous lactating Holstein cows were used to study the effect of five dietary forage: grain ratios on blood constituents. Blood samples were collected in wk 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 of lactation and were analyzed for glucose, urea, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and FFA. Increasing the percentage of forage in the diet decreased blood glucose concentration. Glucose levels were low at the beginning of lactation and increased as DMI increased. Increasing percentage of forage in the diet did not affect blood urea concentration. Increasing forage in the diet from 38.2 to 98.2% increased beta-hydroxybutyrate concentrations threefold during the first 4 wk of lactation in both primiparous and multiparous cows. The concentration of plasma FFA was higher in all the treatments at the beginning of lactation and decreased as lactation advanced. Dietary forage:grain ratio did not affect plasma FFA.  相似文献

The present experiment was undertaken to determine the interactions between dietary supplements of folic acid and rumen-protected methionine on lactational performance and on indicators of folate metabolism during one lactation. Fifty-four multiparous Holstein cows were assigned to 9 blocks of 6 cows each according to their previous milk production. Within each block, 3 cows were fed a diet calculated to supply methionine as 1.75% metabolizable protein, equivalent to 70% of methionine requirement, whereas the 3 other cows were fed the same diet supplemented with 18 g of a rumen-protected methionine supplement. Within each diet, the cows received 0, 3, or 6 mg/d of folic acid per kg of body weight. Rumen-protected methionine increased milk total solid concentration but not yield. Supplementary folic acid increased crude protein and casein concentrations in milk of cows fed no supplementary methionine and the effect increased as lactation progressed; it also decreased milk lactose concentration. Folic acid supplements had the opposite effects on milk crude protein, casein, and lactose concentrations in cows fed rumen-protected methionine. Milk and milk component yields and dry matter intake were unchanged. Folic acid supplementation increased serum folates and this response was greater at 8 wk of lactation. It decreased serum cysteine in cows fed rumen-protected methionine, whereas it had no effect in cows fed no supplementary methionine. The highest serum concentrations of cysteine but the lowest of vitamin B(12) were observed at 8 wk of lactation. Serum clearance of folic acid following an i.v. injection of folic acid was slower at 8 wk of lactation. During this period, the high concentrations of serum folates and cysteine, the low serum concentrations of vitamin B(12) and methionine, and the slow serum clearance of folates strongly suggest that the vitamin B(12) supply was inadequate and interfered with folate use. It could explain the limited lactational response to supplementary folic acid observed in the present experiment.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to measure cow response to feeding of two dietary concentrations of P, one of which was close to recent National Research Council requirements, and the other of which was well in excess of the requirement. Diets containing 0.37 or 0.57% P (dry basis) were fed to Holstein cows for the first 165 d of lactation, and occasionally longer until cows were confirmed pregnant approximately 60 d after insemination. At calving, cows were randomly assigned to experimental diets. The number of cows completing a minimum of 165 d of lactation was 123 for the 0.37 and 124 for the 0.57% P groups. Cows were housed in a stanchion barn and fed one of two transition diets, each formulated to contain one of the P treatments for the first 3 wk of lactation, and then cows were moved to a free-stall barn where the experimental diets were group fed. Milk production, milk fat, and milk protein averaged 35.1 kg/d, 3.92%, and 2.90% for the 0.37% P diet, and 34.9 kg/d, 3.98%, and 2.91% for the 0.57% P diet. None of these measures were different between treatments. Blood serum P concentrations on d 50 and 100 of lactation averaged 6.1 and 6.2 mg/dL for the 0.37% P diet, and 6.8 and 6.9 mg/dL for the 0.57% P diet. No treatment differences were detected in milk production, cow health, or body condition score.  相似文献

Our objective was to investigate the effects of prepartum metabolizable protein (MP) supply and management strategy on milk production and blood biomarkers in early lactation dairy cows. Ninety-six multigravida Holstein cows were used in a randomized complete block design study, blocked by calving date, and then assigned randomly to 1 of 3 treatments within block. Cows on the first treatment were fed a far-off lower MP diet [MP = 83 g/kg of dry matter (DM)] between ?55 and ?22 d before expected calving and then a close-up lower MP diet (MP = 83 g/kg of DM) until parturition (LPLP). Cows on the second treatment were fed the far-off lower MP diet between ?55 to ?22 d before expected parturition and then a prepartum higher MP diet (MP = 107 g/kg of DM) until calving (LPHP). Cows on the third treatment had a shortened 43-d dry period and were fed the prepartum higher MP diet from dry-off to parturition (SDHP). After calving, cows received the same fresh diet from d 0 to 14 and the same high diet from d 15 to 84. Data were analyzed separately for wk ?6 to ?1 and wk 1 to 12, relative to parturition. Dry matter intake from wk ?6 to ?1 was not different between LPHP and LPLP and increased for SDHP compared with LPLP. In contrast, dry matter intake for wk 1 to 12 postpartum did not change for LPHP versus LPLP or for SDHP versus LPLP. Compared with LPLP cows, LPHP cows had lower energy-corrected milk yield and tended to have decreased milk fat yield during wk 1 to 12 of lactation. Conversely, yields of energy-corrected milk and milk fat and protein were similar for SDHP compared with LPLP. Plasma urea N during wk ?3 to ?1 increased for LPHP versus LPLP and for SDHP versus LPLP; however, no differences in plasma urea N were observed postpartum. Elevated prepartum MP supply did not modify circulating total fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate, total protein, albumin, or aspartate aminotransferase during the prepartum and postpartum periods. Increased MP supply prepartum combined with a shorter dry period (SDHP vs. LPLP) tended to increase whole-blood β-hydroxybutyrate postpartum; however, other blood metabolites were not affected. Taken together, under the conditions of this study, elevated MP supply in close-up diets reduced milk production without affecting blood metabolites in multiparous dairy cows during early lactation. A combination of a shorter dry period and increased prepartum MP supply (i.e., SDHP vs. LPLP) improved prepartum dry matter intake without modifying energy-corrected milk yield and blood biomarkers in early lactation cows.  相似文献

Forty Holstein cows in late lactation were offered diets containing niacin and whole cottonseed: 1) 0 g/d, 0%; 2) 0 g/d, 15%; 3) 6 g/d, 0%; and 4) 6 g/d, 15%, to evaluate effects on milk casein synthesis. Cows fed diet 1 had the highest DMI. The FCM (21.4 vs. 18.7 kg/d) and milk fat percentage (4.08 vs. 3.81) were higher for cows fed diet 1 than for those fed diet 4. Milk protein percentage (3.61 vs. 3.50) was higher for cows fed diet 1 than for those fed diet 2. Casein N, as a percentage of total N, was higher (71.9 vs. 68.0%) in milk from cows fed diet 1 than those fed diet 3. Insulin tended to be elevated in cows on the diets containing niacin, but glucose was not affected. Plasma niacin was elevated in cows on the diets supplemented with niacin compared with diet 1. Plasma AA were changed only slightly by treatments. The beneficial effect of niacin on milk casein synthesis, noted in our earlier work when cows were fed whole cottonseed, was not evident in this study with cows in late lactation and during hot weather.  相似文献

Forty-six multiparous Holstein cows were fed one of three total mixed diets from 15 to 119 d postpartum with alfalfa silage as the only forage. Each diet contained 50% forage and 50% concentrate on a DM basis. Diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous by replacing corn and solvent soybean meal with raw soybeans or heat-treated soybeans. The proportion of protein supplement in the diet on a DM basis was 10% soybean meal, 13% raw soybeans, or 13% heat-treated soybeans. The soybeans were heat-treated to maximize the amount of available lysine passing to the small intestine. The soybean meal diet was fed to all cows during wk 1 and 2 postpartum for covariate adjustment of DMI and milk production. Intake of DM was similar across treatments. Feeding heat-treated soybeans supported more milk (4.5 kg/d), 3.5% FCM (4.0 kg/d), and milk protein (.09 kg/d) than soybean meal or raw soybeans. Milk fat percentage was not altered by treatments. However, milk protein percentage was depressed in cows fed heat-treated soybeans compared with soybean meal (2.85 vs. 2.99%, respectively). Milk production response of cows fed properly heat-treated soybeans compared with soybean meal with alfalfa silage as the sole forage is thought to be related primarily to improved supply of undegraded intake protein.  相似文献
