Decentralized cogeneration has shown significant progress in development in the last years. The tendency in supply of buildings goes to small units, which have to be economic and competitive in relation to centralized supply technology. Especially fuel cells and micro gas turbines seem to be suitable for high efficiency in cogeneration of electricity and heat. Even in small scale applications they represent cost efficient supply. To evaluate the chances of decentralized technologies, their influence in relation to consumers and distribution networks are considered.

Due to the new energy deregulation law in Austria a significant increase of wind parks in the next years is being planned. The total capacity of the wind parks will be between 1,000 and 1,500 MW. As Austria has a peak load of about 7,500 MW, this is a challenge for network operation. A further special problem of Austria is that the area with good wind conditions is concentrated in the eastern part. This will result in a local high network loading which can exceed the peak load in this area.

The supply with electric power is an essential factor for the economical and technical evolution of every society. Especially in the 21^st century, the economical and intellectual development of remote areas is connected to the existence of a quantitative and a qualitative supply with electric power. In many remote areas, diesel generators are installed for the supply with electric power, even in the case of an available waterpower potential in the immediate neighbourhood. One of the main reasons for the preference of diesel generators are smaller investments and less effort for installation. With the development of a small hydropower station whose electrical and mechanical equipment is completely fit in an adapted container, an ecological alternative for decentralized power supply is available. The investment which must be taken for the installation of the container power station is bigger than for a diesel generator, but it is significantly smaller than for a conventional hydro power plant with the same output.

Lastknotenspezifische Erfassung von Versorgungsunterbrechungen und deren Anwendungsmöglichkeiten im liberalisierten Markt

The liberalization process of the electricity market leads to an increased cost pressure on power system operators. This will also have negative effects on the quality of supply. However, a high quality of supply is requested also in liberalized markets. In this context, the detailed knowledge of e.g. supply reliability in the power system is an important basis for different technical and economic decisions. Correspondingly, the importance of an efficient statistic of incidents is growing. This paper describes the new requirements of an Austrian distribution system operator, and the appropriate extension and implementation of the outage statistic and the related software tools in the company. Especially, the registration of outages in medium voltage systems considering individual stations affected by supply interruptions and failure affected equipment is described. Of course, the MV outage registration increases the effort for the statistic, but the overview of and the insight into the power system performance improve significantly.     

Chancen und Potentiale multimedialer Systeme in Bildung und Ausbildung

This survey on the central trends of information technology shows that the old labour market becomes increasingly a market of cognitive processes. Human work and technical information processing compete directly with each other, the latter growing more successful. This situation requires a principally new orientation of education qualifying the homo sapiens informaticus with an adequate complementarity of human and technical information processing. In particular, all old curricula have to be redesigned, the aim being “psychic mobility with information technology”. In this context it is indispensable to make all media systems in schools and universities available as notebooks. Part of this is that the state, being obliged to educate and to train, supplies the proper organizational structures for information access.
