The removal performance and the selectivity sequence of mixed metal ions (Co(2+), Cr(3+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+) and Ni(2+)) in aqueous solution were investigated by adsorption process on pure and chamfered-edge zeolite 4A prepared from coal fly ash (CFA), commercial grade zeolite 4A and the residual products recycled from CFA. The pure zeolite 4A (prepared from CFA) was synthesized under a novel temperature step-change method with reduced synthesis time. Batch method was employed to study the influential parameters such as initial metal ions concentration, adsorbent dose, contact time and initial pH of the solution on the adsorption process. The experimental data were well fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetics model (for Co(2+), Cr(3+), Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) ions) and the pseudo-first-order kinetics model (for Ni(2+) ions). The equilibrium data were well fitted by the Langmuir model and showed the affinity order: Cu(2+) > Cr(3+) > Zn(2+) > Co(2+) > Ni(2+) (CFA prepared and commercial grade zeolite 4A). The adsorption process was found to be pH and concentration dependent. The sorption rate and sorption capacity of metal ions could be significantly improved by increasing pH value. The removal mechanism of metal ions was by adsorption and ion exchange processes. Compared to commercial grade zeolite 4A, the CFA prepared adsorbents could be alternative materials for the treatment of wastewater.  相似文献

Trametes versicolor mycelia were immobilized in carboxymethylcellulose, CMC, beads via entrapment, and the bead containing immobilized fungus spores were incubated at 30 degrees C for 3 days to attain uniform growth on the bead surface. After incubation, the live and heat inactivated immobilized fungus on the CMC beads were used for the biosorption of Cu(2+), Pb(2+) and Zn(2+) ions.Plain CMC beads were used as a control system. The biosorption of Cu(2+), Pb(2+) and Zn(2+) ions by the CMC and both live and inactivated immobilized preparations increased as the initial concentration of Cu(2+), Pb(2+) and Zn(2+) ions in the medium increased. The maximum biosorption capacities for both immobilized live and heat inactivated Trametes versicolor were 1.51 and 1.84mmol Cu(2+), 0.85 and 1.11mmol Pb(2+) and 1.33 and 1.67mmol Zn(2+) per g of dry biosorbents, respectively. Biosorption equilibrium was established in about 1.0h and the equilibrium was well described by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. A temperature change in the range of 15-45 degrees C did not affect the biosorption capacity. The affect of pH was also investigated and the maximum adsorption of Cu(2+), Pb(2+) and Zn(2+) ions on the CMC and both live and inactivated immobilized fungal biomass was observed between pH 4.0 and 6.0. The CMC beads with the immobilized fungus can be regenerated using 10mM HCl, with up to 97% recovery of the metal ions; the biosorbents reused up to five biosorption-desorption cycles without any major loss in the biosorption capacity.  相似文献

Sorption of Cd(2+), Cr(3+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Pb(2+) and Zn(2+) onto a carboxyl groups-rich material prepared from lemon was investigated in batch systems. The results revealed that the sorption is highly pH dependent. Sorption kinetic data indicated that the equilibrium was achieved in the range of 30-240 min for different metal ions and sorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model for all metals studied. Relative sorption rate of various metal cations was found to be in the general order of Ni(2+)>Cd(2+)>Cu(2+)>Pb(2+)>Zn(2+)>Cr(3+). The binding characteristics of the sorbent for heavy metal ions were analyzed under various conditions and isotherm data was accurately fitted to the Langmuir equation. The metal binding capacity order calculated from Langmuir isotherm was Pb(2+)>Cu(2+)>Ni(2+)>Cd(2+)>Zn(2+)>Cr(3+). The mean free energy of metal sorption process calculated from Dubinin-Radushkevich parameter and the Polanyi potential was found to be in the range of 8-11 kJ mol(-1) for the metals studied showing that the main mechanism governing the sorption process seems to be ion exchange. The basic thermodynamic parameters of metals ion sorption process were calculated by using the Langmuir constants obtained from equilibration study. The DeltaG degrees and DeltaH degrees values for metals ion sorption on the lemon sorbent showed the process to be spontaneous and exothermic in nature. Relatively low DeltaH degrees values revealed that physical adsorption significantly contributed to the mechanism.  相似文献

A sensitive and simple method for simultaneous preconcentration of trace heavy metal ions in some food samples has been reported. The method is based on the adsorption of Cr(3+), Fe(3+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Co(2+) and Zn(2+) on bis(2-hydroxy acetophenone)ethylendiimine (BHAPED) loaded on activated carbon (AC). The adsorbed metals on activated carbon were eluted using 2 mol L(-1) nitric acid in acetone. The influences of the analytical parameters including pH and sample volume were investigated. The effects of matrix ions on the recoveries of analyte ions were also investigated. The recoveries of analytes were generally higher than 94%. The method has been successfully applied for analysis of the metal contents in real samples including natural water samples.  相似文献

Removal of trace amounts of heavy metals can be achieved by means of selective ion-exchange processes. The newly developed resins offered a high resin capacity and faster sorption kinetics for the metal ions such as Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+) ions. In the present study, the removal of Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated. Experimental investigations were undertaken using the ion-exchange resin Lewatit CNP 80 (weakly acidic) and were compared with Lewatit TP 207 (weakly acidic and chelating). The optimum pH range for the ion-exchange of the above mentioned metal ions on Lewatit CNP 80 and Lewatit TP 207 were 7.0-9.0 and 4.5-5.5, respectively. The influence of pH, contact time, metal concentration and amount of ion-exchanger on the removal process was investigated. For investigations of the exchange equilibrium, different amounts of resin were contacted with a fixed volume of Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+) ion containing solution. The obtained sorption affinity sequence in the presented work was Ni(2+)>Cu(2+)>Cd(2+)>Zn(2+)>Pb(2+). The metal ion concentrations were measured by AAS methods. The distribution coefficient values for metal ions of 10(-3)M initial concentration at 0.1mol/L ionic strength show that the Lewatit CNP 80 was more selective for Ni(2+), Cu(2+) than it was for Cd(2+), Zn(2+) and Pb(2+). Langmuir isotherm was applicable to the ion-exchange process and its contents were calculated. The uptake of metal ions by the ion-exchange resins was reversible and thus has good potential for the removal of Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+) from aqueous solutions. The amount of sorbed metal ion per gram dry were calculated as 4.1, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, and 4.7mequiv./g dry resin for Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+), respectively. Selectivity increased in the series: Cd(2+)>Pb(2+)>Cu(2+)>Ni(2+)>Zn(2+). The results obtained showed that Lewatit CNP 80 weakly acidic resin had shown better performance than Lewatit TP 207 resin for the removal of metals. The change of the ionic strength of the solution exerts a slight influence on the removal of Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+). The presence of low ionic strength or low concentration of NaNO(3) does not have a significant effect on the ion-exchange of these metals by the resins. We conclude that Lewatit CNP 80 can be used for the efficient removal of Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In this study the Pb(2+), Cd(2+) and Zn(2+) adsorption capacity of a natural zeolite was evaluated in batch tests at a constant pH of 5.5 by polluting this mineral with solutions containing increasing concentrations of the three cations to obtain adsorption isotherms. In addition X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) was used to investigate the changes of zeolite structure caused by the exchange with cations of different ionic radius. The zeolite adsorption capacity for the three cations was Zn>Pb>Cd. Moreover a sequential extraction procedure [H(2)O, 0.05 M Ca(NO(3))(2) and 0.02 M EDTA] was applied to zeolite samples used in the adsorption experiments to determine the chemical form of the cations bound to the sorbent. Using this approach it was shown that low concentrations of Pb(2+), Cd(2+) and Zn(2+) were present as water-soluble and exchangeable fractions (<25% of the Me adsorbed), while EDTA extracted most of the adsorbed cations from the zeolite (>27% of the Me adsorbed). The XRD pattern of zeolite, analysed according to the Rietveld method, showed that the main mineralogical phase involved in the adsorption process was clinoptilolite. Besides structure information showed that the incorporation of Pb(2+), Cd(2+) and Zn(2+), into the zeolite frameworks changed slightly but appreciably the lattice parameters. XRD analysis also showed the occurrence of some isomorphic substitution phenomena where the Al(3+) ions of the clinoptilolite framework were replaced by exchanged Pb(2+) cations in the course of the ion exchange reaction. This mechanism was instead less evident in the patterns of the samples doped with Cd(2+) and Zn(2+) cations.  相似文献

The unextracted residue obtained after a countercurrent two-step extractive process of silica from pumice lapillus, at 100 degrees C and room pressure, has been found mainly crystallized to the pseudo-cubic form typical of zeolite P. This residue could be active as a low-cost agent for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. In this paper the removal capacity of six metallic cations (i.e. Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Pb(2+) and Cr(3+)) was studied in a stirred batch reactor. Results obtained showed that the removal of metal ions (100-500mgg(-1)) from wastewater is achieved in a short time and the concentration lowered under the legal limits. The adsorption mechanism mainly involves an ionic exchange between sodium ions from the solid phase and heavy metals in solution. However, if wastewater was accompanied by free acidity, it first should be neutralized to pH 4-5 to prevent zeolite destruction.  相似文献

An on-line detection scheme has been developed for the determination of metal ion affinities for binding to a plant-based substrate. This involves monitoring the effluent of a column packed with cell-wall fragments from the plant Datura innoxia for 27 different elements simultaneously by coupling the column to an ICP emission spectrometer. Previously accepted procedures for removing native metal ions from biological materials by washing the material with a pH 2 solution were found to be insufficient for this material. Measurable amounts of Na, Mg, Al, Ca, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ba, Sr, and Si were all detected in an effluent from the introduction of 1.0M HCl following washing the material in a pH 2 solution. Metal ion breakthrough curves for Cd(2+), Zn(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), and Pb(2+) were found to exhibit an affinity order of Pb(2+)>Cu(2+)>Zn(2+) congruent with Cd(2+)>Ni(2+) for an equimolar mixture of these metal ions. This configuration also enabled the displacement of metal ions to be detected as the breakthrough curve for a subsequent metal ion was monitored. Comparison of Ni and Zn binding indicates a simple ion exchange model is insufficient to explain sequential binding of these metal ions.  相似文献

Knowledge of sorption and transport of heavy metals in soils in the presence of other metals is crucial for assessing the environmental risk of these metals. Competitive sorption and transport of four metals, Pb(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), and Mn(2+), were investigated using multi-metal column experiments with lateritic soils obtained from a gold mine impacted by acid mine drainage. Based on Pb(2+) breakthrough time for single-metal system at a pH of approximately 5, the sorption capacity of Pb(2+) was estimated to be higher in lateritic soil than the other metals. For multi-metal systems, the estimated retardation factors for the metals from highest to lowest were: Pb(2+)>Zn(2+)~ Ni(2+)>Mn(2+), suggesting the mobility of metals through lateritic soil for a multi-metal system would be in the order of Mn(2+)>Ni(2+)~ Zn(2+)>Pb(2+). For binary and multi-metal systems, the estimated sorption capacities of individual metals were found to be lower than the sorption capacities in single metal system - indicating possible competition for sorption sites. Mass recoveries estimates showed that the sorption of metals was more reversible under competitive multi-metal systems than in single metal systems.  相似文献

Fishbone, a natural, apatite rich substance, was examined for suitability as a substitute for hydroxyapatite in the sequestering of aqueous divalent heavy metal ions. The fishbone exhibited lower metal removal capacity than pure hydroxyapatite, due primarily to its purity ( approximately 70% apatite equivalent). In other ways the fishbone behaves in a similar manner as pure hydroxyapatite in the sequestration process. It was observed that it can remove all Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Cd(2+) and Ni(2+) to below detectable levels as measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic absorption, and the rate of reaction with either Zn(2+), Ni(2+), or Pb(2+) was also found to be similar to hydroxyapatite. Also, a two level, three variable full factorial design was performed for the Pb/apatite reaction and both apatites performed similarly. The main difference, besides capacity, was on exposure to high (2.4 mM) Pb concentrations. The fishbone removed less of the Pb(2+) than capacity correction predicted.  相似文献

Magnetic chitosan microspheres were prepared and chemically modified with thiourea (TMCS) for adsorption of metal ions. TMCS obtained were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), IR, magnetic properties and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The adsorption properties of TMCS toward Hg(2+), Cu(2+), and Ni(2+) ions were evaluated. Various factors affecting the uptake behavior such as contact time, temperature, pH and initial concentration of the metal ions were investigated. The kinetics was evaluated utilizing the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and the intra-particle diffusion models. The equilibrium data were analyzed using the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Tempkin isotherm models. The adsorption kinetics followed the mechanism of the pseudo-second-order equation for all systems studied, evidencing chemical sorption as the rate-limiting step of adsorption mechanism and not involving a mass transfer in solution. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data was given by Langmuir isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacities were 625.2, 66.7, and 15.3mg/g for Hg(2+), Cu(2+), and Ni(2+) ions, respectively. TMCS displayed higher adsorption capacity for Hg(2+) in all pH ranges studied. The adsorption capacity of the metal ions decreased with increasing temperature. The metal ion-loaded TMCS with were regenerated with an efficiency of greater than 88% using 0.01-0.1M ethylendiamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA).  相似文献

Bacillus strain CR-7 of multiple metal and antibiotic resistances was isolated. Its metal adsorption under different pretreatments and immobilizations from aqueous solution was characterized. Pretreatment with NaOH (0.1 mol L(-1)) significantly improved Cu(2+) adsorption capacity of the bacterial biomass. Sodium alginate (2%) was the ideal immobilization matrix. The immobilized and pretreated biomass had an obvious "orderliness", following the order of Cu(2+)>Zn(2+) in the solution containing these two metals, and following the order of Pb(2+)>Al(3+)>Cr(6+)>Cu(2+)>Fe(3+)>Zn(2+) = Ni(2+)>Cd(2+) = Co(2+)>Mn(2+) in the solution containing these 10 metals. ΔH° and ΔS° of Cu(2+) adsorption were +7.68 J/mol and +16.628 J/mol K, respectively. The infrared peak of -N-H shifted greatly after Cu(2+) adsorption. After adsorption treatment, some molecular groups disappeared in un-immobilized biomass but were still present in the immobilized biomass. Cu(2+) adsorption fit both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It was concluded (1) that the Cu(2+) adsorption process was endothermic, (2) that -N-H is a most important Cu(2+)-binding group, (3) that immobilization prevents loss or damage of the Cu(2+)-binding molecular groups, and (4) that Cu(2+) adsorption of pretreated and immobilized biomass is homogeneous.  相似文献

A gel resin containing sulfonate groups (Dowex 50W) was investigated for its sorption properties towards copper, zinc, nickel, cadmium and lead metal ions. The use of selective ion exchange to recover metals from aqueous solution has been studied. The ion exchange behavior of five metals on Dowex 50W, depending on pH, temperature, and contact time and adsorbate amount was studied. Experimental measurements have been made on the batch sorption of toxic metals from aqueous solutions using cation exchanger Dowex 50W. The maximum recoveries (about 97%) Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Ni(2+), Cd(2+) and (about 80%) Pb(2+) were found at pH ranges 8-9. The amount of sorbed metal ion was calculated as 4.1, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, and 4.7mequiv./gram dry resin for Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Ni(2+), respectively. The precision of the method was examined at under optimum conditions. Selectivity increased in the series: Pb>Cd>Cu>Zn>Ni. It has been observed that, selectivity of the -SO(3)H group of the resin increases with atomic number, valance, degree of ionization of the exchanged metals. The equilibrium ion exchange capacity of resin for metal ions was measured and explored by using Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Langmuir type sorption isotherm was suitable for equilibrium studies.  相似文献

A new hybrid inorganic-organic cation exchanger acrylamide zirconium (IV) arsenate has been synthesized, characterized and its analytical application explored. The effect of experimental parameters such as mixing ratio of reagents, temperature, and pH on the properties of material has been studied. FTIR, TGA, X-ray, UV-vis spectrophotometry, SEM and elemental analysis were used to determine the physiochemical properties of this hybrid ion exchanger. The material behaves as a monofunctional acid with ion-exchange capacity of 1.65 meq/g for Na(+) ions. The chemical stability data reveals that the exchanger is quite stable in mineral acids, bases and fairly stable in organic solvents, while as thermal analysis shows that the material retain 84% of its ion-exchange capacity up to 600 degrees C. Adsorption behavior of metal ions in solvents with increasing dielectric constant has also been explored. The sorption studies reveal that the material is selective for Pb(2+) ions. The analytical utility of the material has been explored by achieving some binary separations of metal ions on its column. Pb(2+) has been selectively removed from synthetic mixtures containing Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Sr(2+), Zn(2+) and Cu(2+), Al(3+), Ni(2+), Fe(3+). In order to demonstrate practical utility of the material quantitative separation of the Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) in brass sample has been achieved on its columns.  相似文献

A sensor array containing 9 cross-reactive sensing fluorescent elements with different affinity and selectivity to 10 metal cations (Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+), Co(2+), Zn(2+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Al(3+), Ga(3+)) is described. The discriminatory capacity of the array was tested at different ranges of pH and at different cation concentrations using linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Qualitative identification of cations can be determined with over 96% of accuracy in a concentration range covering 3 orders of a magnitude (5-5000 microM). Quantitative analysis can be achieved with over 90% accuracy in the concentration range between 10 and 5000 microM. The array performance was also tested in identification of nine different mineral water brands utilizing their various electrolyte compositions and their Ca(2+), Mg(2+), and Zn(2+) levels. LDA cross-validation routine shows 100% correct classification for all trials. Preliminary results suggest that similar arrays could be used in testing of the consistency of the purification and manufacturing process of purified and mineral waters.  相似文献

A specific mercuric ion binding protein (MerP) originating from transposon TnMERI1 of Bacillus megaterium strain MB1 isolated from Minamata Bay displayed good adsorption capability for a variety of heavy metals. In this study, the Gram-positive MerP protein was expressed in transgenic Arabidopsis to create a model system for phytoremediation of heavy metals. Under control of an actin promoter, the transgenic Arabidpsis showed higher tolerance and accumulation capacity for mercury, cadium and lead when compared with the control plant. Results from confocal microscopy analysis also indicate that MerP was localized at the cell membrane and vesicles of plant cells. The developed transgenic plants possessing excellent metal-accumulative ability could have potential applications in decontamination of heavy metals.  相似文献

The metal ions M(2+) (Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+) and Ag(+)) are potentially toxic. Their electro deposition has been carried out in aqueous air-equilibrated CuCrO(2) suspension upon visible illumination. The delafossite CuCrO(2) is p-type semiconductor characterized by a low band gap (1.28eV) and a long-term chemical stability. The corrosion rate is found to be 10(-2)mumolm(-2)month(-1) in aqua regia. The oxide has been elaborated through nitrate route where the specific surface area is increased via the surface/bulk ratio. A correlation exists between the dark M(2+) adsorption, the redox potential of M(2+/0) couple and the conduction band of CuCrO(2) positioned at -1.06V(SCE). Ag(+) cannot be photoreduced because of its positive potential located far above the valence band. By contrast, Zn(2+) is efficiently deposited due to the large driving force at the interface. The improved photoactivity of copper with a deposition percentage (90%) is attributed to the strong dark adsorption onto the surface catalyst. The results indicate a competitive effect with the water reduction; it has been observed that the M(2+) deposition goes parallel with the hydrogen evolution. Such behavior is attributed to the low H(2) over voltage when ultra fine aggregate of M islands are photodeposited onto CuCrO(2) substrate.  相似文献

Adsorption features of UO(2)(2+) and Th(4+) ions from simulated radioactive solutions onto a novel chitosan/clinoptilolite (CS/CPL) composite as beads have been investigated compared with chitosan cross-linked with epichlorohydrin. The effects of contact time, the initial metal ion concentration, sorbent mass and temperature on the adsorption capacity of the CS-based sorbents were investigated. The adsorption kinetics was well described by the pseudo-second order equation, and the adsorption isotherms were better fitted by the Sips model. The maximum experimental adsorption capacities were 328.32 mg Th(4+)/g composite, and 408.62 mg UO(2)(2+)/g composite. The overall adsorption tendency of CS/CPL composite toward UO(2)(2+) and Th(4+) radiocations in the presence of Cu(2+), Fe(2+) and Al(3+), under competitive conditions, followed the order: Cu(2+)>UO(2)(2+)>Fe(2+)>Al(3+), and Cu(2+)>Th(4+)>Fe(2+)>Al(3+), respectively. The negative values of Gibbs free energy of adsorption indicated the spontaneity of the adsorption of radioactive ions on both the CS/CPL composite and the cross-linked CS. The desorption level of UO(2)(2+) from the composite CS/CPL, by using 0.1M Na(2)CO(3), was around 92%, and that of Th(4+) ions, performed by 0.1M HCl, was around 85%, both values being higher than the desorption level of radiocations from the cross-linked CS, which were 89% and 83%, respectively.  相似文献

Four kinds of silica-gel (SG)-supported diethylenetriamine (DETA) chelating resins SG-DETA-1, SG-DETA-2, SG-DETA-3, and SG-DETA-4 were prepared by functionalization of silica-gel via so-called "heterogeneous-direct-amination" (hetero-DA), "homogeneous-direct-amination" (homo-DA), "heterogeneous end-group protection" (hetero-EGP), and "homogeneous end-group protection" (homo-EGP) routes, respectively. These functionalized reactions on silica-gel were confirmed through elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, porous analysis, and thermogravimetry. Element analysis revealed that the direct-amination routes and homogeneous condition were more beneficial than the corresponding end-group protection routes and heterogeneous condition to the syntheses of chelating resins with high N content. Several metal ions, such as Ag(+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Hg(2+), Zn(2+) and Pb(2+), were chosen as representatives to investigate the relationship between adsorption capacities and N content of ligands onto the surface of silica-gel. The experiments results showed that all resins, SG-DETA-1, SG-DETA-2, SG-DETA-3 and SG-DETA-4, had a better adsorption for Hg(2+) and Cu(2+) than others. One conclusion should be drawn from the above compared experiments, that is, higher N content of silica-gel resins does not ensure a higher utilization ratio of N.  相似文献
