The SiCf/SiC composites containing various thickness of pyrolytic carbon (PyC) interphase were prepared and their properties were investigated for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in the frequency of 8.2–12.4 GHz. The composites containing 310 nm thickness (3.3 vol%) PyC interphase show an about 25 dB shielding effectiveness in the whole frequency band. Interestingly, the contribution of reflection to the EMI shielding effectiveness increases and the contribution of absorption decreases as the PyC interphase thickness increases.  相似文献

The feasibility of fabricating a BN matrix/fiber interphase of SiC/SiC composites via electrophoresis deposition (EPD) was investigated based on the simplicity and non-destructiveness of the process and the excellent interfacial modification effects of BN. The BN suspension and SiC fiber surface properties were both adjusted to generate suitable conditions for the EPD process of the BN interphase. Next, the deposition dynamics and mechanism were studied under different deposition voltages and time, and the relationship between the deposition morphology of the BN interphase and mechanical properties of the fabricated mini SiC/SiC composites were also discussed. After oxidation at high temperature (600–1000 ℃), the mechanical properties of the mini SiC/SiC composites were studied to verify the oxidation resistance effect of the EPD-deposited BN interphase, whose oxidation resistance mechanism was briefly analyzed as well.  相似文献

In this study, SiC interphase was prepared via a precursor infiltration-pyrolysis process, and effects of dipping concentrations on the mechanical, high-temperature dielectric and microwave absorption properties of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites had been investigated. Results indicated that different dipping concentrations influenced ultimate interfacial morphology. The SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution was smooth and homogeneous, and no bridging between the fiber monofilament could be observed. At the same time, SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution had significantly improved mechanical properties of the composite. In particular, the flexural strength of the composite prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution reached 281 MPa. Both ε′ and ε′′ of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites were enhanced after preparing SiC interphase at room temperature. The SiCf/SiC/Mu composite prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution showed the maximum dielectric loss value of 0.38 at 10 GHz. Under the dual action of polarization mechanism and conductance loss, both ε′ and ε′′ of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites enhanced as the temperature increased. At 700 °C, the corresponding bandwidth (RL ≤ ?5 dB) of SiCf/SiC/Mu composites prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution can reach 3.3 GHz at 2.6 mm. The SiCf/SiC/Mu composite with SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution is expected to be an excellent structural-functional material.  相似文献

SiCf/SiC composites with silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) interphase were successfully prepared using silicone resin as interphase precursor for dip-coating process and polycarbosilane as matrix precursor for PIP process assisted with hot mold pressing. The effects of SiOC interphase on mechanical and dielectric properties were investigated. XRD and Raman spectrum results show that SiOC interphase is composed of silicon oxycarbide and free carbon with a relatively low crystalline degree. The surface morphology of SiC fibers with SiOC interphase is smooth and homogeneous observed by SEM. The flexural strength and failure displacement of SiCf/SiC composites with SiOC interphase vary with the thickness of interphase and the maximum value of flexural strength is 289 MPa with a failure displacement of 0.39 mm when the thickness of SiOC interphase is 0.25 µm. The complex permittivity of the composites increases from 8.8-i5.7 to 9.8-i8.3 with the interphase thicker.  相似文献

SiCf/SiC composites with BN interface were prepared through isothermal-isobaric chemical vapour infiltration process. Room temperature mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural, inter-laminar shear strength and fracture toughness (KIC) were studied for the composites. The tensile strength of the SiCf/SiC composites with stabilised BN interface was almost 3.5 times higher than that of SiCf/SiC composites with un-stabilised BN interphase. The fracture toughness is similarly enhanced to 23 MPa m1/2 by stabilisation treatment. Fibre push-through test results showed that the interfacial bond strength between fibre and matrix for the composite with un-stabilised BN interface was too strong (>48 MPa) and it has been modified to a weaker bond (10 MPa) due to intermediate heat treatment. In the case of composite in which BN interface was subjected to thermal treatment soon after the interface coating, the interfacial bond strength between fibre and matrix was relatively stronger (29 MPa) and facilitated limited fibre pull-out.  相似文献

Pitch-based carbon fibers were assembled in horizontal and thickness directions of SiC/SiC composites to form three-dimensional heat conduction networks. The effects of heat conduction networks on microstructures, mechanics, and thermal conductivities were investigated. The results revealed the benefit of introducing heat conduction networks in the densification of composites. The maximum bending strength and interlaminar shear strength of the modified composites reached 568.67 MPa and 68.48 MPa, respectively. These values were equivalent to 18.6% and 69.4% increase compared to those of composites without channels. However, channels in thickness direction destroyed the continuity of fibers and matrix, creating numerous defects. As the volume fraction of heat conduction channels rose, the pinning strengthening effect of channels and influence of defects competed with each other to result in first enhanced mechanical properties followed by a decline. The in-plane thermal conductivity was found anisotropic with a maximum value reaching 86.20 W/(m·K) after introducing pitch-based carbon unidirectional tapes. The thermal conductivity in thickness direction increased with volume fraction of pitch-based carbon fibers and reached 19.13 W/(m·K) at 3.87 vol% pitch-based carbon fibers in the thickness direction. This value was 90.75% higher than that of composites without channels.  相似文献

Performance degradation always occurs in carbon fibers/carbon nanotubes (CFs/CNTs) multi-scale reinforced composites prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. In this study, pyrolytic carbon (PyC) interlayers are introduced to overcome this problem, and the mechanism is studied in detail. The multi-scale reinforcements are combined with lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) glass-ceramic into ceramic matrix composites by slurry impregnation and hot pressing sintering. The results show that the PyC interlayers can protect the CFs from corrosion of the catalyst at high temperature, improve stress transfers and promote the synergy between various components. The CNTs and LAS matrix form a transition area, which causes deflection and shunting when cracks propagate. These factors have greatly increased the crack extension energy, so the mechanical properties have been greatly improved. The flexural strength, fracture toughness and work of fracture reach 602 ± 55 MPa, 10.7 ± 2 MPa m1/2, 4.6 ± 0.7 kJ m−2, respectively, which are 42.3%, 42.6% and 76.9% higher than CF/LAS. This work expands the study of the CFs/CNTs multi-scale reinforcements and the LAS composites, and provides a useful reference for the related research.  相似文献

Carbon/carbon composites with PyC/SiC/TiC multilayer interphases (CCs-PST) have been successfully prepared by a joint process of chemical vapor deposition and carbothermal reduction. Effect of the Ti(OC4H9)4/C6H4(OH)2 molar ratio on the morphology of TiC particles was investigated and the ratio was optimized as 8:1. When the Ti(OC4H9)4/C6H4(OH)2 molar ratio was 8:1, many homogeneously distributed TiC nanoparticles with the sizes of 100–500 nm on the fibers were observed. The structural evolution of CCs-PST was discussed and the mechanical properties of as-prepared materials were investigated by flexural and interlaminar shear tests. The resulted composites demonstrated a PyC and SiC mixed inner interphase with the thickness of 0.5–1 μm and a TiC outer interphase with a thickness about 0.5 µm. Flexural strength of 201.45 ± 5.27 MPa and modulus of 21.21 ± 1.58 GPa showed a 41.7% and 7.83% improvement respectively as compared with that of the neat CCs. The interlaminar shear strength of CCs-PST was 66.71 ± 4.87 MPa, which was 51.20% higher than that of the CCs. The improved mechanical properties were attributed to the enhanced interface bond between fibers and matrix induced by the PST.  相似文献

Pyrolytic carbon (PyC) coating of silicon carbide (SiC) fibers is an important technology that creates quasi-ductility to SiC/SiC composites. Nano-infiltration and transient eutectic-phase (NITE) process is appealing for the fabrication of SiC/SiC composites for use in high temperature system structures. However, the appropriate conditions for the PyC coating of the composites have not been sufficiently tested. In this research, SiC fibers, with several thick PyC coatings prepared using a chemical vapor infiltration continuous furnace, were used in the fabrication of NITE SiC/SiC composites. Three point bending tests of the composites revealed that the thickness of the PyC coating affected the quasi-ductility of the composites. The composites reinforced by 300?nm thick coated SiC fibers showed a brittle fracture behavior; the composites reinforced 500 and 1200?nm thick PyC coated SiC fibers exhibited a better quasi-ductility. Transmission electron microscope research revealed that the surface of the as-coated PyC coating on a SiC fiber was almost smooth, but the interface between the PyC coating and SiC matrix in a NITE SiC/SiC composite was very rough. The thickness of the PyC coating was considered to be reduced maximum 400?nm during the composite fabrication procedure. The interface was possibly damaged during the composite fabrication procedure, and therefore, the thickness of the PyC coating on the SiC fibers should be thicker than 500?nm to ensure quasi-ductility of the NITE SiC/SiC composites.  相似文献

BN-nanoparticle-containing SiC-matrix-based composites comprising SiC fibers and lacking a fiber/matrix interface (SiC/BN + SiC composites) were fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1800°C for 10 min under 50 MPa in Ar. The content of added BN nanoparticles was varied from 0 to 50 vol.%. The mechanical properties of the SiC/BN + SiC composites were investigated thoroughly. The SiC/BN + SiC composites with a BN nanoparticle content of 50 vol.%, which had a bulk density of 2.73 g/cm3 and an open porosity of 5.8%, exhibited quasiductile fracture behavior, as indicated by a short nonlinear region and significantly shorter fiber pullouts owing to the relatively high modulus. The composites also exhibited high strength as well as bending, proportional limit stress, and ultimate tensile strength values of 496 ± 13, 251 ± 30, and 301 MPa ± 56 MPa, respectively, under ambient conditions. The SiC fibers with contents of BN nanoparticles above 30 vol.% were not severely damaged during SPS and adhered to the matrix to form a relatively weak fiber/matrix interface.  相似文献

SiC fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (SiCf/SiC) composites are promising materials for high-temperature structural applications. In this study, KD-II SiC fiber bundles with a C/Si ratio of approximately 1.25 and an oxygen amount of 2.53%, were used as reinforcement. PyC interphase, PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase I and II, with different thicknesses, and SiC matrix were deposited into the SiC fiber bundles by using chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) to form SiCf/SiC mini composites. When the thickness of the interphase is approximately 1000 nm, the ultimate tensile stress and strain of SiCf/SiC mini composites with PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase I can reach 1120.0 MPa and 0.72%, respectively, which are significantly higher than those of SiCf/SiC mini composites with a PyC interphase (740.0 MPa, 0.87%) and PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase II (645.0 MPa, 0.54%). The effect of thicknesses and types of interphase on tensile fracture behavior of mini composites and then the fracture mechanism are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Hexagonal-shaped SiC nanowires were in situ formed in C/SiC composites with ferrocene as catalyst in the densification process of polymer impregnation and pyrolysis. The effect of SiC nanowires on microstructure and properties of the composites were studied. The results show that the in situ formed SiC nanowires were hexagonal, mostly with diamer of about 250 nm, and grew by the vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) mechanism. The C/SiC composite with nanowires shows higher bulk density and flexural strength than the one with no SiC nanowires, and the high temperature flexural strength behavior of C/SiC composites with SiC nanowires was evaluated.  相似文献

Two types of carbon/carbon composites were irradiated to a fast-neutron fluence of 2 × 1018 n/cm2 (E > 1 MeV) in a helium atmosphere at 175°C. These specimens were mechanically tested in flexure and in shear to determine resulting property changes. Shear strengths at room temperature were increased by 25 per cent or more by irradiation, and these increases in shear strengths allowed the composites to be flexed to higher stress levels (15–25 per cent) before undergoing permanent deformations. These property improvements were retained by the materials up to temperatures of at least 1000°C in an inert environment.  相似文献

Silicon carbide (SiC) particles were utilized to improve the mechanical, thermal and anti-ablative properties of carbon/phenolic (C/Ph) composites. SiC–C/Ph composites were fabricated with different weight percentage of SiC by vacuum impregnation method. The mechanical and thermal properties were characterized by compression tests, thermal conductivity tests, and thermogravimetric analysis; meanwhile, ablation resistance was investigated using plasma wind tunnel tests and scanning electron microscopy. Experimental results showed that 5 wt% SiC modified C/Ph composites owned the optimum properties. Moreover, introducing SiC particles could result in an obvious decrease of compression strength, but an increase of thermal stability, thermal conductivity and anti-ablative performance. Notably, the ablation rate reached its the lowest point at 5% the SiC content in resin matrix composites.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of carbon/carbon composites prepared by thermal-gradient CVD technique were investigated by three-point flexural tests. The mechanical properties are strongly influenced by the matrix structure, which in turn depends on the deposition conditions employed. The lower fracture stress and elastic modulus of isotropic structure and columnar structure are due to the low matrix density and to the presence of matrix cracks, respectively. The transition structure shows relatively high modulus and stress. The fracture strain remains almost constant over the whole ranges investigated. The role of the matrix crack during the fracture is discussed.  相似文献

In this work, vapor-grown carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were functionalized using an optimized route and dispersed in the matrix of carbon fabric-reinforced epoxy composites to develop multiscale carbon/epoxy composites. Functionalization was carried out through an oxidative treatment with a mixture of HNO3/H2SO4 (1 : 3) using a combination of ultrasonication and magnetic stirring. Functionalized CNFs (F-CNFs) were characterized for their morphology, length, functional groups, and degradation due to oxidative treatment. The results showed that it was possible to efficiently functionalize CNFs without any degradation through proper selection of treatment duration. F-CNFs were dispersed homogeneously into the epoxy matrix using ultrasonication in combination with high-speed mechanical stirring. The incorporation of 0.1 wt % F-CNFs led to a 65% increase in Young's modulus and a 36% in tensile strength of neat carbon/epoxy composites. The fracture surfaces were studied using scanning electron microscopy to understand the property enhancement due to F-CNFs. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

A dense carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide matrix composites modified by SiBC matrix (C/SiC-SiBC) was prepared by a joint process of chemical vapor infiltration, slurry infiltration and liquid silicon infiltration. The effects of pyrolytic carbon (PyC) interphase thickness on mechanical properties and oxidation behaviors of C/SiC-SiBC composites were evaluated. The results showed that C/SiC-SiBC composites with an optimal PyC interphase thickness of 450 nm exhibited flexural strength of 412 MPa and fracture toughness of 24 MPa m1/2, which obtained 235% and 300% improvement compared with the one with 50 nm-thick PyC interphase. The enhanced mechanical properties of C/SiC-SiBC composites with the increase of interphase thickness was due to the weakened interfacial bonding strength and the decrease of matrix micro-crack amount associated with the reduction of thermal residual stress. With the decrease in matrix porosity and micro-crack density, C/SiC-SiBC composites with 450 nm-thick interphase exhibited excellent oxidation resistance. The residual flexural strength after oxidized at 800, 1000 and 1200 °C in air for 10 h was 490, 500 and 480 MPa, which increased by 206%, 130% and 108% compared with those of C/SiC composites.  相似文献

In order to improve the mechanical properties, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) were in situ introduced on the pyrocarbon (PyC) interfaces of the multilayer preform via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process under tailored parameters. Chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process was then employed to densify the multilayer preform to acquire SiC/SiC composites. The results show that the growth of VACNTs on PyC interface is highly dependent to the deposition temperature, time and constituent of gas during CVD process. The preferred orientation and high graphitization of VACNTs were obtained when temperature is 800?℃ and C2H4/H2 ratio is 1:3. The bending strength and fracture toughness of SiC/SiC composites with PyC and PyC-VACNTs interfaces were compared. Compared to the SiC/SiC composite with PyC interface, the bending strength and fracture toughness increase 1.298 and 1.359 times, respectively after the introduction of PyC-VACNTs interface to the SiC/SiC composites. It is also demonstrated that the modification of PyC interface with VACNTs enhances the mechanical properties of SiC/SiC composites due to the occurrence of more fiber pull-outs, interfacial debonding, crack branching and deflection  相似文献
