This paper outlines the general factors considered in an air-conditioning problem. The present type of applications in the ceramic industry include (1) complete drying of ware, (2) conditioning of material and formed pieces, (3) humidifying and dehumidifying of manufacturing departments, (4) air washing, (5) cooling for comfort. Illustrations showing details of some of these cases are included. “A glass pot is a wonderful piece of engineering:” It is an expensive article and deserves the most careful treatment. The precautions indicated are; careful packing for shipment in ruin proof box cars, well padded pot carriages equipped with the spring suspensions, storage in a warm, dry room, careful preparation of furnace bench to insure an even distribution of load on the bottom of the pot and to make certain that the pot is level, or tilted slightly forward. Unnecessary jolts often result in damage which only becomes apparent when the pot is heated up. 相似文献

Ceramic raw materials are usually heterogeneous mixtures rather than pure substances. Variations in composition are likely to occur in the materials as received at the plant both within individual carloads and between successive carloads of the same material. Such variations often cause trouble in plants making vitreous porcelain. The article describes ways of avoiding trouble, (a) by rendering each carload homogeneous as it is stored, (b) by withdrawing a material from several lots simultaneously to make the body; in withdrawing from several lots simultaneously, the process should preferably be continuous, one lot being finished as a new one is started, (d) and by keeping accurate records of the materials going into each production batch of body. 相似文献

Some possible ceramic applications of the Toepler mercury pump as employed in determination of gases in various materials are discussed. The procedure followed in measuring the gases given off by a clay slip at reduced pressures is described. It was found that 4.65% of gases by volume are removed from a sample of clay slip by reducing the pressure on the sample to boiling (25 mm.). An additional 0.18% of gases was cvolved between the boiling pressure and 1.8 mm. at which pressure the sample was dry. 相似文献

The decimal reduction time (D-value) varied from 12.66 to 2.63 hr when drying temperature increased from 60 to 100°C, respectively.
