In this work we present an overview of the undergraduate online Physics course that we have implemented in the Moodle platform. This course has been developed as an enhancement of the face-to-face courses. The aim of this course is to create an online learning community which helps both teachers and students to have a virtual space where we can share knowledge through different kinds of supervised activities, chats and forums. As we will show in this paper, the students’ response to this initiative has been very good: the online Physics course helps them to reinforce their abilities and knowledge.  相似文献

Abstract  Multimedia systems involve the association of various types of information: verbal information presented visually or auditorily, static or dynamic pictorial information, and sound information. In a cognitive approach, integrating this information involves complex processes constrained by properties of the learner's cognitive system, and especially by the capacity of working memory. This paper, reports on an experiment focused on the integration of verbal and pictorial information when students learn a series of physics concepts. The involvement of the visuo-spatial working memory was investigated by means of a dual-task paradigm. Results show that pictorial information enhances the learning process. They also suggest that the visual and the spatial components of visuospatial working memory should be considered separately. Finally, they emphasise the need to consider the limitations in cognitive resources available to the learner.  相似文献

We describe our attempts at curriculum development at the undergraduate level working within the constraints of a large traditional university system. Curriculum reform is described as a three-step process of product innovation, accommodation and assimilation. In a dual-pronged strategy, students are constructively engaged, first, in investigative projects and assigned specific tasks, giving them a flavour of creative research, and, second, in development of curricular products. The process of transfer of pedagogic innovations into the formal classroom is enhanced by a teacher training programme that aims to provide experiential learning of research-based innovative teaching practices, catalyse a process of reflection through classroom research and establish a collaborative network of teachers.  相似文献

The integration of School Systems in K-12, opens new possibilities for online interaction among teachers, students, and their parents. This paper examines three years of teacher–student and teacher–parent online interactions in seven Israeli secondary schools during the implementation of a school system called Mashov (meaning “feedback” in Hebrew, as well as the acronym of “Immediacy, Transparency, and Supervision”). The three hypotheses were supported: (1) Consistent with the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (Rogers, 2003), findings revealed that implementation time positively influence both logging into the system as well as sending messages to and receiving messages from teachers, students, and parents; (2) Similarly to gender differences in offline parental involvement, the findings showed that compared to fathers, mothers have higher level of online parental involvement – they log more into the system and send more messages to teachers. Moreover, mother activity was in accordance with levels of teacher activity in the system; (3) Consistent with the approach of implementing changes in schools by expanding circles of interactions beyond the teaching staff, teacher entering of pedagogical data on a daily basis improved the use of the system by students and their parents. Students and parents' logins into the system was significantly higher in classes taught by high activity teachers than in classes taught by low activity teachers. It seems that students and parents in classes taught by high activity teachers regularly logged into the system in order to receive pedagogical information. We recommend that teachers and school administrators seek ways for augmenting the online activity of teachers and encourage fathers to have higher levels of parental involvement.  相似文献

In this article, efficient computational models for ship motions are presented. These models are used to simulate ship movements in real time. Compared with traditional approaches, our method possesses the ability to cope with different ship shapes, engines, and sea conditions without the loss of efficiency. Based on our models, we create a ship motion simulation system for both entertainment and educational applications. Our system assists users to learn the motions of a ship encountering waves, currents, and winds. Users can adjust engine powers, rudders, and other ship facilities via a graphical user interface to create their own ship models. They can also change the environment by altering wave frequencies, wave amplitudes, wave directions, currents, and winds. Therefore, numerous combinations of ships and the environment are generated and the learning becomes more amusing. In our system, a ship is treated as a rigid body floating on the sea surface. Its motions compose of 6 degrees of freedom: pitch, heave, roll, surge, sway, and yaw. These motions are divided into two categories. The first three movements are induced by sea waves, and the last three ones are caused by propellers, rudders, currents, and winds. Based on Newton’s laws and other basic physics motion models, we deduce algorithms to compute the magnitudes of the motions. Our methods can be carried out in real time and possess high fidelity. According to ship theory, the net effects of external forces on the ship hull depend on the ship shape. Therefore, the behaviors of the ship are influenced by its shape. To enhance our physics models, we classify ships into three basic types. They are flat ships, thin ships, and slender ships. Each type of ship is associated with some predefined parameters to specify their characteristics. Users can tune ship behaviors by varying the parameters even though they have only a little knowledge of ship theory.  相似文献

Teacher assessment literacy is a key factor in the success of teaching, but some studies concluded that teachers lack it. The aim of this research is to propose the “Practicing, Reflecting and Revising with WATA system (P2R-WATA) Assessment Literacy Development Model” for improving pre-service teacher assessment literacy. WATA system offers personalized learning resources and opportunities for pre-service teachers to assemble tests and administer them to students on-line. Furthermore, WATA system facilitates performance of test analysis and item analysis, and enables pre-service teachers to review statistical information from the test and item analyses to revise test items. Sixty pre-service teachers participated in this research. The research results indicate that pre-service teachers using P2R-WATA Assessment Literacy Development Model have better effectiveness in improving their assessment knowledge and assessment perspectives.  相似文献

In order to inspect deformable parts, recent works use virtual deformation on a digitized version of a real-part to bring the part model back to its nominal shape. This simulation mimics the real process called fixturing, which is normally used by the manufacturer to bring back the part into its nominal shape once installed. To perform such virtual deformation Finite Element Methods (FEMs) are used in order to meet the precision requirements of the inspection process. This paper presents a method based on a spring–mass system, whose formulation is much simpler than the FEM, which allows the calculation of deformations of shell type parts with accuracy comparable to FEM. Furthermore, due to the simplicity in its formulation the algorithm can be implemented more easily than the FEM. The system is composed of two types of springs: one type models membrane behavior of the part’s mesh model and the second type models the flexion behavior between each mesh elements. We show that by applying the proposed mass-spring model, it is possible to reduce the calculation time by 80% over standard FEM calculation opening the door to real-time inspection.  相似文献

Cyber-physical production systems enable adaptivity and flexibility when manufacturing customized products in small batches. Due to varying routes and a high variance of workpieces, material flows in cyber-physical production systems can get highly complex, which can lead to physically induced disturbances that can result in accidents or decreased throughput and high costs. This issue can be addressed by applying a physics engine to simulate the physical interaction between workpieces and the material handling systems during the operation. Connecting such a digital model to a real material handling system in order to derive simulation-based decision support leads to the concept of digital twins. To date, few practical implementations of digital twins in manufacturing outside the machine tool domain were reported. Therefore, this paper describes the modeling and the subsequent implementation of an integrated system that consists of a real material handling system and its digital twin, based on physics simulation. A practical use case demonstrates the versatile advantages of the implemented solution for a manufacturing system with respect to the three digital twin functions prediction, monitoring and diagnosis.  相似文献

This study introduces the development of a Web‐based assessment system, the Web‐based Assessment and Test Analyses (WATA) system, and examines its impacts on teacher education. The WATA system is a follow‐on system, which applies the Triple‐A Model (assembling, administering, and appraising). Its functions include (1) an engine for teachers to administer and manage testing, (2) an engine for students to apply tests, and (3) an engine for generating test results and analyses for teachers. Two studies were undertaken to assess the usefulness and potential benefits of the WATA system for teacher education. In the first study, 47 in‐service teachers were asked to assess the functions of the WATA system. The results indicated that they were satisfied with the Triple‐A Model of the WATA system. In the second study, 30 pre‐service teachers were required to use the WATA system during the teacher‐training program. After 4 months of experience in using the WATA system, the pre‐service teachers' perspectives of assessment have been changed significantly. The findings of these two studies might provide some guidance to help those who are interested in the development of Web‐based assessment and intend to infuse information technology into teacher education.  相似文献
