In the final part of his short series that outlines the main principles of ecodesign, Ken Yeang turns his attention to the alternatives that are on offer to designers who want to ensure comfortable internal conditions in their buildings. He covers the full gamut of choices and hybrids from buildings that are constructed in ‘passive mode’, without the need for any electromechanical systems, to those that are conceived in ‘productive mode’ producing their own energy. Sustainable or green design is notoriously ill-defined. As a comparatively young discipline it is up for grabs and up for interpretation. In a new three-part series, Ken Yeang, who has been designing green architecture for more than three decades, provides some much-needed parameters. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Rafiq Azam, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has produced interventionist architecture in Dhaka city's unchallenged urbanity where owner-developer profits tightly dictate the terms of engagement. His designs for apartment buildings are regarded as compelling revisions of given typologies. In his urban projects, Azam has dematerialised the obtrusive and anti-urban boundary wall that characterises the city with new layerings of gardens, plantings and other architectural fragments such as gardens in the air. His contribution to the ‘greening’ of apartments is original and clearly an achievement in the rigid mathematics of the market. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Cinemetrics is a post-perspectival, cinematically inspired drawing system that encourages a way of working that is multilayered and multiscalar, responding to the complexities of contemporary life and the city. Here Brian McGrath , in collaboration with Hsueh , Cheng Leun , Paul CHU Hoi Shan , José De Jesús Zamora and Victoria Marshall , demonstrates how in field work in the US, Thailand and Taiwan, Cinemetrics enabled them to adopt an interdisciplinary process addressing transdisciplinary issues. A new generation of thinking is emerging in the manipulation of ground systems that, with the aid of parametrics, is enabling a new level of design precision and ecological calibration. Anne Save de Beaurecueil and Franklin Lee describe how with Diploma Unit 2 at the Architectural Association in London, they are working towards their goal of fusing architecture, landscape and contemporary art through an engagement with articulated ground organisations.
