Performance-based design has slowly been adopted for the use in geotechnical design. In the future, various types of foundations suitable for a variety of soils and applications should be accepted as an alternative to conventional flat foundations for the increase of bearing capacity and the savings of materials. The concept of shells is not new in foundation design, considering the construction with inverted brick arch foundation. Shell foundations are economic alternatives to conventional flat foundations where heavy superstructural or lateral loads are to be transmitted to weaker soils. Various types of foundations with different geometrical shapes have been extensively investigated in the structural design. However, the corresponding studies on the geotechnical design in terms of bearing capacity and deformation are scare. As such the advantages of various types of foundations have not yet been clarified in terms of the geotechnical design. The objective of this paper is to examine the overall geotechnical performance of various types of foundations on sand using model loading tests and the numerical limit analysis. The general superiority of various types of foundations has been revealed by comparing the loading tests with the analytical results.  相似文献

Most of the research papers in the area of Reliability are concerned with the evaluation of probability of failures for various limit states or calculation of safety index (β). There are few papers in the area of inverse formulation of reliability. This paper specifically deals with the design of various reinforced concrete members for given probability of failure levels. The probability-of-failure levels for various members are taken from literature and the reliability design problem is formulated as a polynomial equation in terms of the design parameters. The solution of the polynomial is obtained using some standard techniques which, in turn, gives the design values of the members for that specified probability of failure. This approach is applicable to any reinforced concrete member and the results have direct application for practicing engineers.  相似文献

The evaluation of design alternatives is an important phase for supporting design decision and for producing new design concepts, and it is repeatedly processed. To proceed with the design process in standard, the repetition is reduced to minimum, and design must be optimized in limited cost and time. For smooth and fast process, lots of design alternatives are provided within the limit of possibility and they must be evaluated appropriately. It's possible to evaluate design alternatives using various media. This paper describes the characteristics of various media that have been used for evaluation of design alternatives, and propose the evaluation system for design alternatives based on the findings of case studies.  相似文献

为了探究发挥土体自身强度进行支护的规律,对某基坑进行了试验性支护设计。基坑两侧均采用组合粉喷桩重力式挡土墙支护,但压顶方式不同。开挖后基坑两侧挡土墙均产生了破坏,但破坏先后次序和破坏程度不同。分析表明:重力式挡土墙格栅内不同部位桩墙受力情形不同,因而组合采用不同工法桩体具有合理性;在验算重力式挡土墙外部稳定性的同时,还应验算墙内土体的局部稳定性。试验对该工法的理论研究与设计方法具有一定借鉴意义。  相似文献

在决定城市设计实践效果的各种因素中,制度环境以及城市设计本身的制度安排起着至关重要的作用。然而,城市设计活动的独特个性表明,现代城市设计自诞生之初,其内部就隐含着制度建设的各种悖论。发达国家的城市设计制度建设已有几十年的历史,这些制度的执行和运作并不象想象中那样完善和光鲜,特别是设计控制和审查制度,直到今天仍不断遭受着来自各方的非议。论文剖析了城市设计制度建设中的十大争议主题,为完善我国的城市设计管理提供一些新思考。  相似文献

Development of reliability-based management of inspection, monitoring, maintenance and repair (IMMR) of various types of offshore structures is described, with a focus on management of hull damage due to crack growth and corrosion. Operational experiences with respect to degradation of various types of offshore structures are summarized. The interrelation between design criteria and IMMR is emphasized. Explicit design for robustness in terms of an accidental collapse limit state and monitoring by the use of the leak before break principle to identify damage are highlighted. It is shown how design for robustness, choice of inspection method and scheduling as well as repair strategy, need to be implemented to obtain an acceptable risk for various types of offshore structures. Finally, the particular features of reliability based structural reassessment for extension of the service life, are briefly outlined and exemplified.  相似文献
