The hygroscopic porous particle was used as the fluidizing particle for the superheated steam fluidized bed drying under reduced pressure. A relatively large material was immersed in the fluidized bed as the drying sample. The drying characteristics of the sample were examined experimentally and the results were compared with those in the case of inert particle fluidized bed.

The water transfer from the sample to the fluidizing particle bed in the case of hygroscopic porous particle facilitated the drying regardless of pressure and temperature in the drying chamber. The increment degree of the sample temperature at the earlier period of drying was smaller in the case of hygroscopic porous particle than in the case of inert particle, and the phenomenon was more remarkable in the case of superheated steam than in the case of hot air.  相似文献

A relatively large wet material was immersed in a fluidized bed of hygroscopic porous particle (silica gel beads) under reduced pressure. And then the drying characteristics were compared with those in the case of inert particle (glass beads). The comparison of drying characteristics is performed experimentally and theoretically. In calculation, the water transfer from the sample to the fluidized bed was considered. The calculation results are in good agreement with the experimental data. The effects of the operational conditions (the pressure in the drying chamber and the temperature of the drying gas) on the drying characteristics were also examined in both fluidizing particles.The drying finishes earlier in the case of hygroscopic porous particle than in the case of inert particle regardless of pressure in the drying chamber, since the water transfer from the sample facilitates the drying in the case of hygroscopic porous particles. The temperature decrement in drying appears in the case of inert particle. This phenomenon is also observed in the case of hygroscopic porous particle, but the decrement degree of the temperature is much smaller than that in the case of inert particle. The difference of the minimum temperature in the sample in drying between the cases of hygroscopic porous particle and inert particle is very slight for different pressures in the drying chamber.  相似文献

An objective of this study is to continuously obtain dispersed, dry, fine powders from a dilute suspension of heat-sensitive materials at a low temperature and high drying rate. A fluidized bed under reduced pressure was used in this study and, as a first step, only distilled water (without solid powders) was used as a sample. Drying characteristics were examined for various types of fluidizing particles. The diameter of fluidizing particle varied for inert particles (glass beads). Three kinds of hygroscopic porous particles (silica gel beads; 3A, 4B, and 5D) were also used as fluidizing particles. Under reduced pressures, the maximum drying rate was found to be higher than that at atmospheric pressure, while the bed temperature became lower with an increase in the maximum drying rate (i.e., drying at lower temperature with a higher drying rate is possible under reduced pressures. As diameter of the fluidizing particle was increased, the maximum drying rate became higher, although the amount of gas required for fluidization also increased. The maximum drying rates for silica gel beads were found to be almost equal to those of glass beads, with the exception of 3A silica gel beads (having a smaller pore diameter). The bed temperature was lower for silica gel beads compared to glass beads at the same maximum drying rate (i.e., silica gel beads (hygroscopic porous particles) are superior to glass beads (inert particles) with regard to drying at low temperatures at a high drying rate).  相似文献

The drying characteristics and properties (color and shrinkage) of carrots (as a representative agricultural product) were experimentally examined in a fluidized bed under reduced pressure. Dry hot air and superheated steam were used as the drying gases. Rice and carrot powders (0.125–0.355 mm in diameter) were used as the fluidizing particles, in addition to glass beads (0.12 mm in diameter).

It was confirmed that the drying rate using a fluidized bed was much higher than without a fluidized bed (hot-air drying), regardless of the type of fluidizing particles used. Under reduced pressure, both with and without a fluidized bed, the drying rate was higher than that at atmospheric pressure using hot air. The drying rate was sufficiently high for fluidized-bed drying with superheated steam, though the drying rate was higher with hot air than with superheated steam. As the drying temperature increased, the volume ratio (befor/after drying) of the sample increased. At high drying temperatures (373 and 423 K in the present study), the color of the sample changed; in other words, a heat-induced change in the properties of the carrot was observed. At a low drying temperature (333 K in the present study), the drying method did not affect the color of the carrot; i.e., the color of the dried material was maintained even in a fluidized bed under reduced pressure when the drying rate was higher.  相似文献

The drying characteristics of porous material in fluidized bed were examined theoretically and experimentally. The brick ball was used as the sample and immersed in the fluidized bed. The glass beads were used as the fluidizing particles and the particle diameters were changed. When the pore diameter of sample was relatively large, the fluidizing particles were adhered on the sample surface. In the theoretical analysis, the heat and mass transfers in adhered particle layer were considered. The fluidizing particles were adhered on the sample surface during the earlier period of drying. The sample temperature largely decreased when the mass of adhered particle decreased. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data. The diameter of fluidizing particle had a small effect on the drying time. The excess increments in drying gas temperature hardly contributed to shortening the drying time.  相似文献

Abstract

A method for low-temperature drying with high drying rate was developed for heat-sensitive foods and agricultural products. A freezing pretreatment was combined with fluidized bed drying under reduced pressure. Cylindrical carrot samples were frozen and then placed without thawing in a fluidized bed of hygroscopic porous silica gel particles that adsorbed water from the sample during the drying process. The effects of the freezing pretreatment and hygroscopicity of fluidizing particles on the drying characteristics of carrots were examined. A higher drying rate was achieved when carrots samples were subjected to freezing pretreatment than without it. At 12?kPa, the volume change was smaller in carrots subjected to freezing pretreatment than in untreated samples. A larger amount of water was absorbed during rehydration by carrots dried at 12?kPa than at 101?kPa within 120?min. The properties of dried carrots were affected not only by freezing pretreatment but also by the pressure applied during the drying process.  相似文献

Hydrodynamics of a superheated steam vacuum fluidized bed was experimentally studied. In these experiments, eight different types of large particles (1970–7430 μm) were used. In all cases, a behavior similar to that found in an air fluidized bed was observed. The minimum fluidization velocity was found to be increasing with decreasing operating pressure. In the case of employing superheated steam, the minimum fluidization conditions are established at a lower velocity than using air as the fluidizing medium. These tendencies are attributed to the variation of the mean free path of molecules. On the other hand, the experiments showed that the bed voidage in the minimum fluidization conditions is almost insensitive to the variation of the operating pressure. Several equations were developed to predict the minimum fluidization velocity. The values provided by these equations were compared with the experimental data as well as with the predictions of the correlations presented in the technical literature.  相似文献

Drying characteristics of coriander seed particles were experimentally analyzed in a reduced pressure superheated steam fluidized bed. The typical moisture gain, reported in some other studies during the warm-up period of the process, was reduced in most of the cases by supplying additional heat into the column. The experimental results demonstrated that the drying rate increases and the equilibrium moisture content decreases by increasing the operating temperature. However, variation of the operating pressure (40–67 kPa) and the superficial steam velocity (2.3–4.0 m/s) did not present significant effects on the moisture contents. The degree of superheating was found to be the most important parameter for the process. The experiments also showed that the equilibrium moisture content decreases upon increasing the degree of superheating. Finally, employing a reduced pressure superheated steam fluidized bed appears as an option to carry out drying processes at relatively lower temperatures.  相似文献

The mechanism of combustion of carbon in shallow fluidized beds at temperatures 750-1000°C is studied by measuring burning rates and temperatures of spherical carbon particles ranging from 2 mm to 12 mm diameter directly in an experimental fluidized bed. Among variables investigated were inert particle size, superficial fluidizing velocity, temperature, the influence of neighbouring active particles and oxygen concentration in the fluidizing gas.

Under the experimental conditions explored, combustion was mainly kinetically controlled, so that with carbon particles larger than about 4 mm, burning rates are significantly higher than those predicted by combustion models which assume combustion to be controlled by the rate at which oxygen diffuses through a stagnant particulate phase surrounding the burning particle. The higher burning rate seems to arise because the greater mobility of particles in the bed causes the restriction to oxygen flow to the carbon surface offered by the particulate phase to be reduced and has important consequences for combustor design.

Measured carbon particle temperatures were influenced considerably by bed operating conditions ranging from 15 to 215°C higher than bed temperature.

Measured burning rates of carbon particles were found to be reduced significantly when other active particles were present in the bed. This sensitivity of burning rate to changes in active particle concentration in the bed was shown to be increasingly important once the concentration of carbon in the bed exceeded about 1%

Increasing the bed inert particle size, superficial fluidizing velocity, oxygen concentration in the fluidizing gas and bed temperature resulted in higher burning rates. The implication of these findings on combustor design are discussed.  相似文献

A series of drying experiments was performed in a reduced-pressure superheated steam fluidized bed, employing pepper seed particles and some novel data were obtained. Experiments were carried out using different chamber pressures (40–67 kPa), temperatures (90–122°C), steam velocities (2.35–4.10 m/s), and mass flow rates (0.0049–0.0134 kg/s). In the majority of the experiments, the moisture gain observed in some other studies in the warm-up period of the process was prevented through some supplementary heat provided to the column. The drying rate was found to be increasing by operating temperature; however, it was not affected much by the superficial gas velocity and the operating pressure. Nevertheless, the reduced pressure operation increases the degree of superheating that appears as the most important parameter of the process. The experimental results showed that the equilibrium moisture content decreases by the increasing degree of superheating. On the other hand, the critical moisture content assumes higher values for the greater degrees of superheating. It was concluded that a relatively lower temperature process can be achieved through a reduced-pressure superheated steam fluidized bed.  相似文献

The drying of porous materials immersed in the fluidized bed under reduced pressure was performed, and the results were compared with those of hot air drying. The pressure in drying chamber was changed (5.0-101.3 kPa) and the effect of it was examined.

The temperature of the sample center becomes lower as the pressure in drying chamber decreases, and the temperature in fluidized-bed drying is higher than that in hot air drying at the same pressure. The effect of pressure in drying chamber on the sample temperature is significant for different temperatures of drying gas.  相似文献

A multiscale model for predicting the superheated steam drying behavior of a packed bed filled with particulate porous material is presented. By using a reaction engineering approach (REA) a semi-empirical model is developed that can describe the heat and mass transfer between a single particle and the surrounding drying agent. By analogy between superheated steam drying and hot air drying, the relative activation energy of the REA model is formulated. Next, the single-particle drying model is fed into a continuum-scale model of a packed bed. The temperature and moisture content of the solid and the vapor temperature are successfully predicted by the bed-scale model. To endow the bed-scale model with predictive capabilities, simulation results are compared with experimental literature data.  相似文献

The effects of gas velocity (0.32 to 0.67 m/s), inlet gas temperature (25 to 100 °C) and the mass ratio of starch to inert particles (0.1 to 0.4) on the drying rate of starch in a 0.083 m-ID × 0.80 m-high inert medium fluidized bed were investigated. The drying mechanism in an inert medium fluidized bed can be classified into adhesion-dispersion, evaporation and disintegration steps. The drying rate increases with the increasing inlet gas temperature and velocity; the rates being about 10 times those reported for an agitated pan dryer. However, the drying rate decreases slightly as the mass ratio of starch to inert particles increases. Also, the drying rate exhibits a maximum at an optimum bed porosity. The drying rate data obtained in an inert medium fluidized bed have been correlated with the relevant dimensionless groups, i.e. Stefan and particle Reynolds numbers based on the theory of isotropic turbulence.  相似文献

A model is developed to determine an optimum apparatus geometry and, for given apparatus dimensions, a financially optimal fluidized bed height. The parameters that effect the operating costs are the bed mass, the apparatus diameter and the gas mass flow rate. To implement such cost optimization, a physics‐based mathematical model for describing the thermodynamic processes in fluidized bed steam‐drying is briefly explained and presented. The most important conclusion is not to operate the fluidized bed for a drying process below a certain minimum cost, calculated with the help of the modelling. The problem, when describing the drying process and consequently the mass transfer, is that in the superheated steam drying case studied here, water is evaporated as moisture and withdrawn into an atmosphere of vapor water.  相似文献

Drying experiments were conducted on raw potato slices, using atmospheric pressure superheated steam and hot air as drying media at 170 and 240°C. Mass changes of the material were continuously measured, the conditions of cross section near the surfaces were observed with an electron microscope, also color changes of their surface were measured during drying. The respective drying methods and temperature conditions were compared and it was found that, in the case of superheated steam drying, moisture content temporarily increases due to steam condensation in the initial stage of drying, therewith, as well as starch gelatinization rapidly develops. Meanwhile, in case of hot air drying, starch gelatinization occurs more slowly than with superheated steam drying and that non-gelatinized starch granules remain on the surface when drying was completed. Furthermore, surface color measurements showed that samples dried by superheated steam were more reddish than ones dried by hot air and the surfaces were more glossy, because no starch granules remain on the surface in case of superheated steam drying.  相似文献

The superheated steam drying at reduced pressure is performed, and the effects of operational conditions such as drying pressure and temperature on the drying characteristics are examined. In order to obtain the basic guideline for the design of the superheated steam dryer at reduced pressure, the heat flux to sample was calculated and the optimal conditions were estimated.

After the sample temperature reached at the boiling point, the temperature was maintained at the boiling point and the drying rate became almost constant. Once the sample was dried out, the temperature suddenly increased up to the drying gas temperature. From the calculation of combined heat flux, the followings were found. The contribution of radiative heat transfer to the combined heat flux became larger as the drying pressure was lower. The combined heat flux had a maximum value against the drying pressure. The optimum drying pressure, which gave the maximum heat flux, became lower as the drying gas temperature decreased. It was found that reduction in the drying pressure is effective for the enhancement in drying performance.  相似文献

The drying characteristics of a relatively large wet material immersed in a fluidized bed of inert particles were examined theoretically. Calculations of heat transfer and evaporation of water on the material surface were included in a discrete element method–computational fluid dynamics (DEM-CFD) simulation. Only the preheating and constant drying rate periods were considered in the simulation.

Our simulation made it possible to calculate the relation between the behavior of the fluidizing particles and the drying characteristics. The drying rate increased with an increase in the number of fluidizing particles in contact with the material and the number of fluidizing particles changed with time; that is, the drying rate fluctuated. When the drying rate increased, the fluid temperature decreased and the vapor content of the fluid increased around the material; that is, the temperature and vapor content of the fluid were associated with the behavior of the fluidizing particles.  相似文献
