A wire-mesh sensor has been employed to study air/water and air/silicone oil two-phase flow in a vertical pipe of 67 mm diameter and 6 m length. The sensor was operated with a conductivity-measuring electronics for air/water flow and a permittivity-measuring one for air/silicone oil flow. The experimental setup enabled a direct comparison of both two-phase flow types for the given pipe geometry and volumetric flow rates of the flow constituents. The data have been interrogated at a number of levels. The time series of cross-sectionally averaged void fraction was used to determine characteristics in amplitude and frequency space. In a more three-dimensional examination, radial gas volume fraction profiles and bubble size distributions were processed from the wire-mesh sensor data and compared for both flow types. Information from time series and bubble size distribution data was used to identify flow patterns for each of the flow rates studied.  相似文献

The focus of this paper is on the measurement and calculation model of void fraction for the vertical upward co-current air–water slug flow in a circular tube of 15 mm inner diameter. High-speed photography and optical probes were utilized, with water superficial velocity ranging from 0.089 to 0.65 m·s-1 and gas superficial velocity ranging from 0.049 to 0.65 m·s-1. A new void fraction model based on the local parameters was proposed, disposing the slug flow as a combination of Taylor bubbles and liquid slugs. In the Taylor bubble region, correction factors of liquid film thickness Cδ and nose shape CZ* were proposed to calculate αTB. In the liquid slug region, the radial void fraction distribution profiles were obtained to calculate αLS, by employing the image processing technique based on supervised machine learning. Results showed that the void fraction proportion in Taylor bubbles occupied crucial contribution to the overall void fraction. Multiple types of void fraction predictive correlations were assessed using the present data. The performance of the Schmidt model was optimal, while some models for slug flow performed not outstanding. Additionally, a predictive correlation was correlated between the central local void fraction and the cross-sectional averaged void fraction, as a straightforward form of the void fraction calculation model. The predictive correlation showed a good agreement with the present experimental data, as well as the data of Olerni et al., indicating that the new model was effective and applicable under the slug flow conditions.  相似文献

High performance of compact heat exchangers is conditioned by correct fluid distribution. This is especially true for gas–liquid heat exchangers where a uniform distribution is particularly delicate to obtain and where maldistribution entails significant performance deterioration. Several phenomena can lead to phase distribution problems: the fins may be subject to manufacturing defects or fouling, leading to shortcuts or dead zones. But the first source of maldistribution may be a poor distribution at the outlet of the entrance distributor. This distributor aims at mixing the phases and distributing them across the channels.  相似文献

Thermal storage systems, used, e.g., for domestic heating, must be able to compensate the mismatch between supply and demand. The most efficient techniques for thermal storage are based on sorption storage processes. Usually in sorption, the adsorption process occurs in combination with a solid state adsorbent, whereas absorption takes place in a liquid/gas system. During such sorption processes the flow behavior of the carrier medium is crucial for the efficiency of a falling film absorber. In this work the hydrodynamics of the falling liquid film in two geometrical setups, namely on an inclined plane and over two horizontal parallel tubes, is studied. For the simulation the Eulerian–Eulerian model of the software ANSYS CFX and the interFoam application of the open source software OpenFOAM were used. The numerical results of the two geometries were compared with each other and also with existing data from literature to predict the performance of a sorption storage regarding the specific wetted area and the needed height for gravity driven film absorption.  相似文献

The influences of concurrent flow of air–Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquid systems on pressure drop and on its reduction in downflow trickle bed reactor are presented in the present work. The pressure drop at different flow regimes in the trickle bed is enunciated by the dynamic interaction model based on the framework of the momentum balance. From the analysis, it is observed that the non-ideality factor of bubble flow regime is higher than that of pulse and trickle flow regimes which may influence efficiency of the reactor. The present work also concludes that the percentage of pressure reduction increases with increasing the surfactant concentration. However there is a limitation of change of concentration, above which no more reduction can be obtained. The present study may be useful for further understanding and modelling of multiphase reactor with non-Newtonian liquid, which has great industrial applications.  相似文献

Several flow processes influence overall dynamics of gas–liquid flow and hence mixing and transport processes in bubble columns. In the present work, we have experimentally as well as computationally studied the effect of gas velocity, sparger design and coalescence suppressing additives on dynamics of gas–liquid flow in a rectangular bubble column. Wall pressure fluctuations were measured to characterize the low frequency oscillations of the meandering bubble plume. Bubble size distribution measurements were carried out using high-speed digital camera. Dispersed gas–liquid flow in bubble column was modelled using Eulerian–Eulerian approach. Bubble population was represented in the model with a single group or multiple groups. Bubble coalescence and break-up processes were included in the multi-group simulations via a suitable population balance framework. Effect of superficial gas velocity and sparger configurations was studied using single-group simulations. Model predictions were verified by comparison with the experimental data. Role of bubble size in determining plume oscillation period was studied. Multi-group simulations were carried out to examine evolution of bubble size distribution. An attempt is made to understand the relationship between local and global (over all the dispersion volume) bubble size distribution. The models and results reported here would be useful to develop and to extend the applications of multi-group CFD models.  相似文献

Two-phase flow through reactor internals have been experimentally and numerically studied. Experiments have been carried out with a setup running under ambient pressure for two configurations. The first configuration consists of a mixing box orifice inlet through which liquid flows as a film sheared by a gas flow. The liquid height at orifice inlet is documented over a wide range of liquid and gas flowrates. The second configuration consists of the two-phase flow through a downcomer of a distributing tray. Two and three dimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations using the volume of fluid approach have been used to compute both flows for similar flow conditions as used in the experiments. It is shown that the agreement between experiments and calculations is very good. Based on this good agreement, it is finally discussed how CFD can be used to achieve better design rules for gas liquid reactor internals via simulations carried out for industrial process conditions.  相似文献

The real-time cross-sectional distributions of the gas holdups in gas–liquid and gas–liquid–solid systems are measured using electrical capacitance tomography. For the gas–liquid system, air as the gas phase and both Norpar 15 (paraffin) and Paratherm as the liquid phases are used. Polystyrene beads whose permittivity is similar to that of Paratherm are used as the solid phase in the gas–liquid–solid system. The three-phase system is essentially a dielectrically two-phase system enabling measurement of the gas holdup in the gas–liquid–solid system independent of the other two phases. A new reconstruction algorithm based on a modified Hopfield dynamic neural network optimization technique developed by the authors is used to reconstruct the tomographic data to obtain the cross-sectional distribution of the gas holdup. The real-time flow structure and bubbles flow behavior in the two- and three-phase systems are discussed along with the effects of the gas velocity and the solid particles.  相似文献

Gas–liquid–liquid three-phase slug flow was generated in a glass microreactor with rectangular microchannel, where aqueous slugs were distinguished by relative positions to air bubbles and organic droplets. Oxygen from bubbles reacted with resazurin in slugs, leading to prominent color changes, which was used to quantify mass transfer performance. The development of slug length indicated a film flow through the corner between bubbles and the channel wall, where the aqueous phase was saturated with oxygen transferred from bubble body. This film flow results in the highest equivalent oxygen concentration within the slug led by a bubble and followed by a droplet. The three-phase slug flow subregime with alternate bubble and droplet was found to benefit the overall mass transfer performance most. These results provide insights into a precise manipulation of gas–liquid–liquid slug flow in microreactors and the relevant mass transfer behavior thereof.  相似文献

In addition to the previously constructed model of the hydrodynamics of a gas-liquid slug flow, a mathematical model is developed that describes pressure losses taking into account the rearrangement of a velocity profile in liquid slugs and energy losses on the formation and renewal of interfacial area during the motion of bubbles. The contribution of different forms of pressure losses in capillaries is analyzed. It is shown that in microchannels tangential stresses on the surface of a bubble substantially affect the total pressure losses. It is found that the length of bubbles does not affect the rate of surface formation and respective pressure losses if bubbles have the same velocity. The results of modeling are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data of other researchers.  相似文献

In contrast to the concurrent mixer-settler, the interaction between the mixing and settling chambers have to be taken into account in the simulation of the countercurrent mixer-settler, and no work has been reported for this equipment. In this work, a three-phase flow model based on the Eulerian multiphase model, coupled with a sliding mesh model is proposed for a countercurrent mixer-settler. Based on this, the dispersed phase distribution, flow pattern, and pressure distribution are investigated, which can help to fill the gap in the operation mechanism. In addition, the velocity vector distribution at the phase port shows an intriguing phenomenon that two types of vectors with opposite directions are distributed on the left and right sides of the same plane, which indicates that the material exchange in the mixing and settling chambers is simultaneous. Analysis of this variation at this location by a fast Fourier transform (FFT) method reveals that it is mainly influenced by the mixing chamber and is consistent with the main period of the outlet flow fluctuations. Therefore, by monitoring the fluctuation of the outlet flow and then analyzing it by the FFT method, the state of the whole tank can be determined, which makes it promising for the design of control systems for countercurrent mixer-settlers.  相似文献

Horizontal gas–liquid two-phase flows widely exist in chemical engineering, oil/gas production and other important industrial processes. Slug flow pattern is the main form of horizontal gas–liquid flows and characterized by intermittent motion of film region and slug region. This work aims to develop the ultrasonic Doppler method to realize the simultaneous measurement of the velocity profile and liquid film thickness of slug flow. A simulation method for slug flow based on the VOF multiphase flow model was implemented in ANSYS? Fluent via a user-defined function(UDF) and applied to the dissipation of liquid slugs in the inlet pipe of a gas–liquid cylindrical cyclone(GLCC) separator while varying the expanding diameter ratio and angle of inclination. The dissipation of liquid slug in inlet pipe is analyzed under different expanding diameter ratios and inclination angles. In the inlet pipe, it is found that increasing expanding diameter ratio and inclination angle can reduce the liquid slug stability and enhancing the effect of gravity, which is beneficial to slug flow dissipation. In the cylinder, increasing the expanding diameter ratio can significantly reduce the liquid carrying depth of the gas phase but result in a slightly increase of the gas content in the liquid phase space. Moreover, increasing the inclination angle results in a decrease in the carrying depth of liquid in the vapor phase, but enhances gas–liquid mixing and increases the gas-carrying depth in the liquid phase. Taking into consideration the dual effects of slug dissipation in the inlet pipe and carrying capacity of gas/liquid spaces in the cylinder, the optimal expanding diameter ratio and inclination angle values can be determined.  相似文献

An effective mass transfer intensification method was proposed by embedding different triangular obstacles to improve the gas–liquid mass transfer efficiency in microchannel. The influences of triangle obstacles configuration, obstacle interval and flow rate on the volumetric mass transfer coefficient, pressure drop and energy consumption were investigated experimentally. The enhancement factor was used to quantify the mass transfer enhancement effect of triangle obstacles. It was found that the isosceles or equilateral triangle obstacles are superior to the rectangular obstacles. The maximum enhancement factor of equilateral triangle obstacles was 2.35. Considering comprehensively mass transfer enhancement and energy consumption, the isosceles triangle obstacle showed the best performance, its maximum enhancement factor was 2.1, while the maximum pressure drop increased only 0.41 kPa (22%) compared to the microchannel without obstacles. Furthermore, a micro-particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) was utilized to observe the flow field distribution and evolution, in order to understand and analyze the enhancement mechanism. The micro-PIV measurement indicated that the obstacle structure could induce the formation of vortex, which promotes convective mass transfer and thins the flow boundary layer, accordingly, the gas–liquid mass transfer efficiency is remarkably improved. This study can provide theoretical guidance and support for the design and optimization of microchannel with triangular obstacles.  相似文献

An analysis of liquid film models for horizontal and near horizontal gas–liquid slug flows is developed. The models’ formulations employ the one dimensional separated phase momentum equations. The formulations differ among themselves, by neglecting some terms on the momentum balance and also on the closure relations. A comparative analysis discloses the differences amongst the formulations. The sensitivity of the liquid film models to the changes on the bubble velocity, liquid slug holdup and liquid viscosity is accessed through a series of parametric runs. Finally, the model is tested against experimental data taken for continuous horizontal slug flow. The tests were designed to check if the models are able to capture the stochastic film properties provided the properly closure relations.  相似文献

The implementation of traditional sensors is a drawback when investigating mass transfer phenomena within microstructured devices, since they disturb the flow and reactor characteristics. An Arduino based slider setup is developed, which is equipped with a computer-vision system to track gas–liquid slug flow. This setup is combined with an optical analytical method allowing to compare experimental results against CFD simulations and investigate the entire lifetime of a single liquid slug with high spatial and temporal resolution. Volumetric mass transfer coefficients are measured and compared with data from literature and the mass transfer contribution of the liquid film is discussed.  相似文献

Mixing efficiency in two-phase gas–liquid agitated vessel is one of the important challenges in the industrial processes. Computational fluid dynamics technique (CFD) was used to investigate the effect of four different pitched blade impellers, including 15°, 30°, 45° and 60°, on the mixing quality of gas–liquid agitated vessel. The multiphase flow behavior was modeled by Eulerian–Eulerian multiphase approach, and RNG kε was used to model the turbulence. The CFD results showed that a strong global vortex plays the main role on the mixing quality of the gas phase in the vessel. Based on the standard deviation criterion, it was observed that the axial distribution of the gas phase in the 30° impeller is about 55% better than the others. In addition, the results showed that the 30° impeller has a uniform radial distribution over the other impellers and the maximum gas phase holdup in the vessel. Investigation of the power consumption of the impellers showed that the 30° impeller has the highest power consumption among the other pitched blade impellers. Also, examine the effect of same power condition for pitched blade impellers showed that the 30° impeller has the best mixing quality in this condition.  相似文献
