Secure and efficient group communication among mobile nodes is one of the significant aspects in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The group key management (GKM) is a well established cryptographic technique to authorise and to maintain group key in a multicast communication, through secured channels. In a secure group communication, a one-time session key is required to be shared between the participants by using distributed group key agreement (GKA) schemes. Due to the resource constraints of ad hoc networks, the security protocols should be communication efficient with less overhead as possible. The GKM solutions from various researches lacks in considering the mobility features of ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a hexagonal clustered one round distributed group key agreement scheme with trust (HT-DGKA) in a public key infrastructure based MANET environment. The proposed HT-DGKA scheme guarantees an access control with key authentication and secrecy. The performance of HT-DGKA is evaluated by simulation analysis in terms of key agreement time and overhead for different number of nodes. Simulation results reveal that the proposed scheme guarantees better performance to secure mobile ad hoc network. It is demonstrated that the proposed scheme possesses a maximum of 2250 ms of key agreement time for the higher node velocity of 25 m/s and lower key agreement overhead. Also, the HT-DGKA scheme outperforms the existing schemes in terms of successful message rate, packet delivery ratio, level of security, computation complexity, number of round, number of exponentiations and number of message sent and received that contribute to the network performance.

To improve traffic safety and efficiency, it is vital to reliably send traffic-related messages to vehicles in the targeted region in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). In this paper, we propose a novel scheme, relative position based message dissemination (RPB-MD), to reliably and efficiently disseminate messages to the vehicles in the zone-of-relevance. Firstly, the relative position based (RPB) addressing model is proposed to effectively define the intended receivers in the zone-of-relevance. To ensure high message delivery ratio and low delivery delay, directional greedy broadcast routing (DGBR) is introduced to make a group of candidate nodes hold the message for high reliability. Moreover, to guarantee efficiency, the protocol time parameters are designed adaptively according to the message attributes and local vehicular traffic density. The protocol feasibility is analyzed to illustrate the robustness and reliability of RPB-MD. Simulation results show that RPB-MD, compared with representative existing schemes, achieves high delivery ratio, limited overhead, reasonable delay and high network reachability under different vehicular traffic density and data sending rate.  相似文献

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a type of wireless ad hoc network that facilitates ubiquitous connectivity between vehicles in the absence of fixed infrastructure. Beaconing approaches is an important research challenge in high mobility vehicular networks with enabling safety applications. In this article, we perform a survey and a comparative study of state-of-the-art adaptive beaconing approaches in VANET, that explores the main advantages and drawbacks behind their design. The survey part of the paper presents a review of existing adaptive beaconing approaches such as adaptive beacon transmission power, beacon rate adaptation, contention window size adjustment and Hybrid adaptation beaconing techniques. The comparative study of the paper compares the representatives of adaptive beaconing approaches in terms of their objective of study, summary of their study, the utilized simulator and the type of vehicular scenario. After implementing the representatives of beaconing approaches, we analysed the simulation results and discussed the strengths and weaknesses of these beaconing approaches with regard to their suitability to vehicular networks. Finally, we discussed the open issues and research directions related to VANET adaptive beaconing approaches.  相似文献

The new information and communication technologies have changed the trend of communication in all fields. The transportation sector is one of the emerging field, where vehicles are communicating with each other or with infrastructure for different safety and comfort applications in the network. Vehicular ad hoc networks is one of the emerging multi-hop communication type of intelligent transportation field to deal with high mobility and dynamic vehicular traffic to deliver data packets in the network. The high mobility and dynamic topologies make the communication links unreliable and leads to frequent disconnectivity, delay and packet dropping issues in the network. To address these issues, we proposed a road aware geographical routing protocol for urban vehicular ad hoc networks. The proposed routing protocol uses distance, direction and traffic density routing metrics to forward the data towards the destination. The simulation results explore the better performance of proposed protocol in terms of data delivery, network delay and compared it with existing geographical routing protocols.

The seamless data delivery is essential in VANET for application such as autonomous vehicle, intelligent traffic management and for the road safety and emergency applications. The incorporation of named data networking (NDN) with VANET, intended to frame intelligent traffic flow and seamless data delivery. Such integration of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) with NDN is termed as vehicular named data networks (VNDN). Because of the continuous node/vehicle mobility, it is a tedious process to build constant and consistent communication between vehicles. With that concern, for enhancing the performance of VNDN and solving the issues such as frequent cluster formation on heavy loaded data transmissions, position-based adaptive clustering model (PACM) is developed. The major intention of PACM is to form clusters based on trajectory. Besides, PACM performs efficient data caching by collecting significant data from vehicles to establish consistent data communication with all nodes in the network. Efficient data caching is done with the elected cluster heads among the framed clusters based on its positions and mobility models. For handling the vehicles at higher mobility speed, mutual data caching process is also designed that makes vehicles to perform on-demand data gathering from cluster heads. Further, the model is simulated and the obtained results are compared with the existing models based on the metrics such as packet delivery ratio, mean delay, cache hit rate and mean hop distance. The comparative analysis shows that the proposed model outperforms the available techniques.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are an extreme case of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). High speed and frequent network topology changes are the main characteristics of vehicular networks. These characteristics lead to special issues and challenges in the network design, especially at the medium access control (MAC) layer. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive evaluation of mobility impact on the IEEE 802.11p MAC performance. The study evaluates basic performance metrics such as packet delivery ratio, throughput, and delay. An unfairness problem due to the relative speed is identified for both broadcast and unicast scenarios. We propose two dynamic contention window mechanisms to alleviate network performance degradation due to high mobility. The first scheme provides dynamic level of service priority via adaptation to the number of neighboring nodes, while the second scheme provides service priority based on node relative speed. Extensive simulation results demonstrate a significant impact of mobility on the IEEE 802.11p MAC performance, the unfairness problem in the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, and the effectiveness of the proposed MAC schemes.  相似文献

A layer-3 mobility management scheme for an all-IP Wireless Access Network (WAN), and in particular for vehicular networks, is developed in this paper. The proposed method enables fast and reliable handoff. This feature is extremely important for high speed vehicular networks. Since vehicles are characterized by likely-predictable path, as well as very high speed, handoff events can and should be predicted in order to achieve fast and reliable handoff. As it is shown in this study, the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the packet loss ratio caused by frequent handoff events experienced by high speed vehicles. This scheme is topology-independent in the sense that it does not assume any network topology. The key idea is to use a topology-learning algorithm that enables to perform localized mobility management, by efficiently re-selecting a Mobility Anchor Point (MAP) node. The goal of the proposed scheme is to maintain a continues connection subject to user-dependent delay constraints, while minimizing the signaling cost and packet loss ratio associated with handoff events. This scheme is consistent with the existing mobility management schemes currently used in Mobile IP (MIP) and cellular networks, and it fits into the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) scheme defined in Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) for integrating mobile terminals with the Internet wired backbone.  相似文献

Secure dynamic IP addressing is a prime requirement for unicast communication between authorized hosts in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Recently, several approaches have been proposed for dynamic addressing scheme. However, most of the approaches rely on broadcasting for address solicitation and/or duplicate address detection. As a result, several types of security threats in dynamic IP configuration can be observed. In this paper, we present an ID based dynamic IP configuration scheme that can securely allocate IP addresses to the authorized hosts for a mobile ad hoc network without broadcasting over the entire network. Each host in the MANET can generate an unique IP address from its own IP address for a new host. The proposed scheme provides authentication for address configuration without the help of a trusted third party while taking care of the security-threats associated with dynamic IP configuration. Performance analysis shows that even with added security mechanisms our proposed addressing scheme has fairly good addressing latency and control overhead compared to the similar existing schemes. Moreover, the proposed scheme is able to solve the problem of network partitions and mergers along with the arrival and departure of a host efficiently and securely.  相似文献

Vehicular ad hoc networks are emerging as a promising approach to improve traffic safety and provide a wide range of wireless applications to drivers and passengers on the road. In order to perform reliable and trusted vehicular communications, one requirement is to ensure peer vehicle credibility by means of validating digital certificate attached to messages that are transmitted by other vehicles. However, in vehicular communication systems, certificate validation is more time consuming than in traditional networks because each vehicle receives a large number of messages in a short period. Another concern is the unsuccessful delivery of information between vehicles and other entities on the road due to their high mobility rate. For these reasons, we seek new solutions that will aid in speeding up the process of certificate validation. In this article, we propose a certificate revocation status validation scheme using the concept of clustering from data mining that can meet the aforementioned requirements. We employ the technique of k‐Means clustering to boost the efficiency of certificate validation, thereby enhancing the security of a vehicular ad hoc network. Additionally, a comprehensive security analysis for this scheme is presented; the analysis shows that this scheme can effectively improve the validation of certificates and thus increase the communication security in vehicular ad hoc networks. AMOEBA: Robust Location Privacy Scheme for VANET   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Communication messages in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) can be used to locate and track vehicles. While tracking can be beneficial for vehicle navigation, it can also lead to threats on location privacy of vehicle user. In this paper, we address the problem of mitigating unauthorized tracking of vehicles based on their broadcast communications, to enhance the user location privacy in VANET. Compared to other mobile networks, VANET exhibits unique characteristics in terms of vehicular mobility constraints, application requirements such as a safety message broadcast period, and vehicular network connectivity. Based on the observed characteristics, we propose a scheme called AMOEBA, that provides location privacy by utilizing the group navigation of vehicles. By simulating vehicular mobility in freeways and streets, the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated under VANET application constraints and two passive adversary models. We make use of vehicular groups for anonymous access to location based service applications in VANET, for user privacy protection. The robustness of the user privacy provided is considered under various attacks.  相似文献

Seamless mobility is a challenging issue in the area of research of vehicular networks that are supportive of various applications dealing with the intelligent transportation system (ITS). The conventional mobility management plans for the Internet and the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is unable to address the needs of the vehicular network and there is severe performance degradation because of the vehicular networks’ unique characters such as high mobility. Thus, vehicular networks require seamless mobility designs that especially developed for them. This research provides an intelligent algorithm in providing seamless mobility using the media independent handover, MIH (IEEE 802.21), over heterogeneous networks with different access technologies such as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), as well as the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) for improving the quality of service (QoS) of the mobile services in the vehicular networks. The proposed algorithm is a hybrid model which merges the biogeography-based optimization or BBO with the Markov chain. The findings of this research show that our method within the given scenario can meet the requirements of the application as well as the preferences of the users.  相似文献

Extending Global IP Connectivity for Ad Hoc Networks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Ad hoc networks have thus far been regarded as stand-alone networks without assumed connectivity to wired IP networks and the Internet. With wireless broadband communications and portable devices with appropriate CPU, memory and battery performance, ad hoc connectivity will become more feasible and demand for global connectivity through ad hoc networking is likely to rapidly grow. In this paper we propose an algorithm and describe a developed prototype for connectivity between an ad hoc network running the ad hoc on-demand distance-vector protocol and a wired IP network where mobile IP is used for mobility management. Implementation issues and performance metrics are also discussed.  相似文献

The goal of the network mobility management is to effectively reduce the complexity of handoff procedure and keep mobile devices connecting to the Internet. When users are going to leave an old subnet and enter a new subnet, the handoff procedure is executed on the mobile device, and it may break off the real‐time service, such as VoIP or mobile TV, because of the mobility of mobile devices. Because a vehicle is moving so fast, it may cause the handoff and packet loss problems. Both of the problems will lower down the throughput of the network. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel network mobility protocol for vehicular ad hoc networks. In a highway, because every car is moving in a fixed direction at a high speed, a car adopting our protocol can acquire an IP address from the vehicular ad hoc network through the vehicle‐to‐vehicle communications. The vehicle can rely on the assistance of a front vehicle to execute the prehandoff procedure, or it may acquire a new IP address through multihop relays from the car on the lanes of the same or opposite direction and thus may reduce the handoff delay and maintain the connectivity to the Internet. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme is able to reduce both the handoff delay and packet loss rate. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A Mobicast Routing Protocol in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we present a “spatiotemporal multicast”, called a “mobicast”, protocol for supporting applications which require spatiotemporal coordination in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The spatiotemporal character of a mobicast is to forward a mobicast message to vehicles located in some geographic zone at time t, where the geographic zone is denoted as zone of relevance (ZOR). Vehicles located in ZOR at the time t must keep the connectivity to maintain the real-time data communication between all vehicles in ZOR. The connectivity is kept of all vehicles in ZOR through the vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The connectivity of ZOR is lost if any vehicle in ZOR suddenly accelerates or decelerates its velocity. The temporal network fragmentation problem is occurred such that vehicle in ZOR cannot successfully receive the mobicast messages. To solve the problem, a new mobicast protocol is presented in this work to successfully disseminate mobicast messages to all vehicles in ZOR via a special geographic zone, called as zone of forwarding (ZOF). The main contribution of this work is to develop a new mobicast routing protocol to dynamically estimate the accurate ZOF to successfully disseminate mobicast messages to all vehicles in ZOR. To illustrate the performance achievement, simulation results are examined in terms of dissemination successful rate, packet overhead multiplication, packet delivery delay, and throughput.  相似文献

The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) has recently emerged as a promising networking technique attracting both the vehicular manufacturing industry and the academic community. Therefore, the design of next generation VANET management schemes becomes an important issue to satisfy the new demands. However, it is difficult to adapt traditional control approaches, which have already proven reliable in ad-hoc wireless networks, directly. In this study, we focus on the development of vehicular crowdsensing and routing algorithms in VANETs. The proposed scheme, which is based on reinforcement learning and game theory, is designed as novel vertical and horizontal game models, and provides an effective dual-plane control mechanism. In a vertical game, network agent and vehicles work together toward an appropriate crowdsensing process. In a horizontal game, vehicles select their best routing route for the VANET routing. Based on the decentralized, distributed manner, our dual-plane game paradigm captures the dynamics of the VANET system. Simulations and performance analysis verify the efficiency of the proposed scheme, showing that our approach can outperform existing schemes in terms of RSU’s task success ratio, normalized routing throughput, and end-to-end packet delay.

Intermittently connected mobile networks are wireless networks where most of the time there does not exist a complete path from the source to the destination. There are many real networks that follow this model, for example, wildlife tracking sensor networks, military networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, etc. In this context, conventional routing schemes fail, because they try to establish complete end-to-end paths, before any data is sent. To deal with such networks researchers have suggested to use flooding-based routing schemes. While flooding-based schemes have a high probability of delivery, they waste a lot of energy and suffer from severe contention which can significantly degrade their performance. Furthermore, proposed efforts to reduce the overhead of flooding-based schemes have often been plagued by large delays. With this in mind, we introduce a new family of routing schemes that "spray" a few message copies into the network, and then route each copy independently towards the destination. We show that, if carefully designed, spray routing not only performs significantly fewer transmissions per message, but also has lower average delivery delays than existing schemes; furthermore, it is highly scalable and retains good performance under a large range of scenarios. Finally, we use our theoretical framework proposed in our 2004 paper to analyze the performance of spray routing. We also use this theory to show how to choose the number of copies to be sprayed and how to optimally distribute these copies to relays.  相似文献
