To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites at mid and high temperature, a gradient composite coating was designed and prepared on SiC-coated C/C composites by in situ formed-SiO2 densifying the porous SiC-ZrSi2 pre-coating. SiO2 gradient distribution was conducive to inhibiting the cracking of the coating. A dual-layer structure with the outer dense layer and the inner microporous layer was formed in the coating during densifying. The dense layer had excellent oxygen diffusion resistance and the microporous layer alleviated CTE mismatch between SiC inner coating and dense layer. Moreover, ZrSiO4 particles inhibited crack propagation and stabilized SiO2 glass. Therefore, the coating can protect the C/C composites from oxidation at 1473 K, 1573 K and 1773 K for 810 h, 815 h and 901 h, respectively. The coated samples underwent 30 thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K without mass loss, exhibiting good thermal shock resistance.  相似文献

In order to improve the oxidation protective ability of SiC-coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a SiC–Si–ZrB2 multiphase ceramic coating was prepared on the surface of SiC-coated C/C composite by the process of pack cementation. The microstructures of the coating were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The coating was found to be composed of SiC, Si and ZrB2. The oxidation resistance of the coated specimens was investigated at 1773 K. The results show that the SiC–Si–ZrB2 can protect C/C against oxidation at 1773 K for more than 386 h. The excellent oxidation protective performance is attributed to the integrity and stability of SiO2 glass improved by the formation of ZrSiO4 phase during oxidation. The coated specimens were given thermal shocks between 1773 K and room temperature for 20 times. After thermal shocks, the residual flexural strength of the coated C/C composites was decreased by 16.3%.  相似文献

In order to improve the ablation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, SiC-ZrB2 di-phase ceramic were introduced by reactive melt infiltration. The ablation properties of these composites were evaluated by oxyacetylene torch with a heat flux of 2.38 MW/m2 for 60 s. Compared with the pure C/C composites, the C/C-SiC-ZrB2 composites show a significant improvement in the ablation resistance, and the linear and mass ablation rates decreased from 10.28×10−3 mm/s to 6.72×10−3 mm/s and from 3.08×10−3 g/s to 0.61×10−3 g/s, respectively. After ablation test, the flexural strength retentions of the C/C and C/C-SiC-ZrB2 composites near the ablated center region are 39.7% and 81.6%, respectively. The higher strength retention rate of C/C-SiC-ZrB2 composites was attributed to the introduction of SiC-ZrB2 ceramic phases, which have excellent ablation resistant property. During ablation test, an ‘embedding structure’ of Zr-O-Si glass layer was formed, which could act as an effective barrier for oxygen and heat. The oxide ceramic coating could protect the C/C-SiC-ZrB2 composites from further ablation, and thus contribute to retaining the mechanical property of C/C-SiC-ZrB2 composites after ablation.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of the carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a TaB2–SiC–Si multiphase oxidation protective ceramic coating was prepared on the surface of SiC coated C/C composites by pack cementation. Results showed that the outer multiphase coating was mainly composed of TaB2, SiC and Si. The multilayer coating is about 200 μm in thickness, which has no penetration crack or big hole. The coating could protect C/C from oxidation for 300 h with only 0.26 × 10?2 g2/cm2 mass loss at 1773 K in air. The formed silicate glass layer containing SiO2 and tantalum oxides can not only seal the defects in the coating, but also reduce oxygen diffusion rates, thus improving the oxidation resistance.  相似文献

cBN–TiN–TiB2 composites were fabricated by spark plasma sintering at 1773–1973 K using cubic boron nitride (cBN) and SiO2-coated cBN (cBN(SiO2)) powders. The effect of SiO2 coating, cBN content and sintering temperature on the phase composition, densification and mechanical properties of the composites was investigated. SiO2 coating on cBN powder retarded the phase transformation of cBN in the composites up to 1873 K and facilitated viscous sintering that promoted the densification of the composites. Sintering at 1873 K, without the SiO2 coating, caused the relative density and Vickers hardness of the composite to linearly decrease from 96.2% to 79.8% and from 25.3 to 4.4 GPa, respectively, whereas the cBN(SiO2)–TiN–TiB2 composites maintained high relative density (91.0–96.2%) and Vickers hardness (17.9–21.0 GPa) up to 50 vol% cBN. The cBN(SiO2)–TiN–TiB2 composites had high thermal conductivity (60 W m−1 K−1 at room temperature) comparable to the TiN–TiB2 binary composite.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon (C/C) composites against oxidation, a mullite coating was prepared on SiC precoated C/C composites by a hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process. The phase composition, microstructure and oxidation resistance of the prepared mullite/SiC coatings were investigated. Results show that hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition is an effective route to achieve crack-free mullite coatings. The mullite/SiC coating displays excellent oxidation resistance and can protect C/C composites from oxidation at 1773 K for 322 h with a weight loss rate of only 4.89 × 10?4 g/cm2 h. The failure of the multi-layer coatings is considered to be caused by the volatilization of silicate glass layer, the formation of microholes and microcracks on the coating surface and the formation of penetrative holes between the SiC bonding layer and the C/C matrix at 1773 K. The corresponding high temperature oxidation activation energy of the coated C/C composites at 1573–1773 K is calculated to be 111.11 kJ/mol.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a dense HfC nanowire-toughened Si-Mo-Cr/SiC multilayer coating was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and pack cementation. The microstructure, thermal shock and isothermal oxidation resistance of the coating were investigated. HfC nanowires could improve the toughness of the coating and suppress the coating cracking. After incorporating HfC nanowires in the coating, both of the thermal shock and isothermal oxidation resistance of the coating were obviously improved. The multilayer coating with HfC nanowires could effectively protect C/C composites at 1773 K for 270 h, whose weight loss is only 0.19%. The good oxidation resistance is mainly attributed to the formation of a compound glass layer containing SiO2 and Cr2O3.  相似文献

To protect the carbon/carbon (C/C) composites from oxidation, an outer ultra‐high‐temperature ceramics (UHTCs) HfB2‐SiC coating was prepared on SiC‐coated C/C composites by in situ reaction method. The outer HfB2‐SiC coating consists of HfB2 and SiC, which are synchronously obtained. During the heat treatment process, the formed fluid silicon melt is responsible for the preparation of the outer HfB2‐SiC coating. The HfB2‐SiC/SiC coating could protect the C/C from oxidation for 265 h with only 0.41 × 10?2 g/cm2 weight loss at 1773 K in air. During the oxidation process, SiO2 glass and HfO2 are generated. SiO2 glass has a self‐sealing ability, which can cover the defects in the coating, thus blocking the penetration of oxygen and providing an effective protection for the C/C substrate. In addition, SiO2 glass can react with the formed HfO2, thus forming the HfSiO4 phase. Owing to the “pinning effect” of HfSiO4 phase, crack deflecting and crack termination are occurred, which will prevent the spread of cracks and effectively improve the oxidation resistance of the coating.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites at high temperature, a SiC nanowire-toughened MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si multiphase coating was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and pack cementation. The microstructure, mechanical properties and oxidation resistance of the coating were investigated. After the introduction of SiC nanowires, the elastic modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness of the MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si coating were increased by 25.48%, 4.09% and 45.03%, respectively. The weight loss of the coated sample with SiC nanowires was deceased from 4.83–2.08% after thermal shock between 1773 K and room temperature for 30 cycles and the weight loss is only 3.24% after isothermal oxidation at 1773 K in air for 82 h. The good oxidation resistance of the coating is mainly attributed to that SiC nanowires can effectively inhibit the propagation of cracks in the coating by the toughening mechanisms including bridging and pull-out.  相似文献

In order to improve the thermal shock resistance of the coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a mullite whisker toughened mullite coating was fabricated on the surface of SiC pre-coated C/C composites (SiC-C/C) by molten-salt method with a later hot dipping process. The phase compositions, surface and cross-section microstructures, high temperature thermal shock resistance of the as-prepared multi-layer coatings were investigated. Results show that the introduction of mullite whiskers can effectively improve the density of the mullite outer coating and decrease the cracking of the coating during the thermal shock cycle process. After 100 times thermal shock cycles between 1773 K and room temperature, only 1.87 × 10−3 g cm−2 weight loss has been detected, indicating the achievement of the excellent thermal shock resistance.  相似文献

In this study, SiC coating for C/C composites was prepared by pack cementation method at 1773 K, and MoSi2-SiOC-Si3N4 as an outer coating was successfully fabricated on the SiC coated samples by slurry method at 1273 K. The microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were analyzed. Results showed that a porous β-SiC inner coating and a crack-free MoSi2-SiOC-Si3N4 coating are formed. Effect of Si3N4 content on the oxidation resistance of the coated C/C composites at 1773 K in air was also investigated. The weight loss curves revealed that introducing the appropriate proportion of Si3N4 could improve the oxidation resistance of coating. The MoSi2-SiOC/SiC coated C/C sample had an accelerated weight loss after oxidation in air for 20 h. However, the coating containing 45% Si3N4 could protect C/C composition from oxidation for 100 h with a minute weight loss of 0.63%.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon (C/C) composites from oxidation at elevated temperature, an effective WSi2-CrSi2-Si ceramic coating was deposited on the surface of SiC coated C/C composites by a simple and low-cost slurry method. The microstructures of the double-layer coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses. The coating exhibited excellent oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. It could protect C/C composites from oxidation in air at 1773 K for 300 h with only 0.1 wt.% mass gain and endure the thermal shock for 30 cycles between 1773 K and room temperature. The excellent anti-oxidation ability of the double-layer WSi2-CrSi2-Si/SiC coating is mainly attributed to the dense structure of the coating and the formation of stable vitreous composition including SiO2 and Cr2O3 produced during oxidation.  相似文献

A bi-layer oxidation-resistant coating consisting of a mullite outer coating, and a SiC inner coating on the surface of Cf/SiC composites was prepared by the chemical vapour deposition and an air spray sol-gel process, and its corrosion behavior was evaluated in a wet-oxygen coupling environment. Results show that the formation of SiO2 glass layer and its reaction with mullite particles to form aluminosilicate glass layer, leading to an increase in the density of the mullite outer coating, so that the weight loss of bi-layer Mullite/SiC coating coated C/SiC sample was only 1.11 × 10?3 g·cm?2 in the first 100 h of oxidation. However, the weight loss of the coated sample reached 26.82 × 10?3 g·cm?2 after 200 h of oxidation due to a part of the mullite outer coating was detached. The SiO2 glass phase reacted with water vapour to generate gaseous Si(OH)x, which created distinct holes on the surface of the SiO2 glass layer or inside the molten aluminosilicate glass layer. Eventually, the mullite outer coating was blistered and detached from the surface of the sample due to the combination and growth of holes.  相似文献

The gradient HfB2 modified SiC coating was prepared on the surface of SiC-coated C/C composites by in-situ synthesis. Anti-oxidation behaviors of the coated C/C samples at 1773, 1873 and 1973?K were investigated. The results show that the gradient HfB2 modified SiC coatings possess excellent oxidation resistance, which can protect C/C substrates from oxidation for 800, 305 and 100?h at 1773, 1873 and 1973?K, respectively. In addition, with the oxidation temperature increasing, the evaporation of the Hf-Si-O glass layer and the active oxidation of SiC were accelerated, which is the reason for the worst oxidation resistance of the sample at 1973?K among the three temperatures.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistances of SiC coated C/C composites by a pack cementation (PC) method at high temperature and alleviate the siliconization erosion of molten silicon on C/C substrate during the preparation of SiC coating, a SiO2-SiC reticulated layer with SiC nanowires was pre-prepared on C/C composites through combined slurry painting and thermal treatment before the fabrication of SiC coating. The presence of porous SiO2-SiC layer with SiC nanowires was beneficial to fabricate a compact and homogeneous SiC coating resulting from synergistic effect of further reaction between SiO2 and pack powders and the reinforcement of SiC nanowires. Therefore, the results of thermal shock and isothermal oxidation tests showed that the mass loss of modified SiC coating was only 0.02 % after suffering 50-time thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K and decreased from 5.95 % to 1.08 % after static oxidation for 49.5 h in air at 1773 K. Moreover, due to the blocking effect of SiO2-SiC reticulated layer on siliconization erosion during PC, the flexural strength of SiC coated C/C composites with SiO2-SiC reticulated layer increased by 64.8 % compared with the untreated specimen.  相似文献

Herein, we investigate the applicability of the polycarbosilane (PCS)–metal slurry reactive melt infiltration (RMI) process to various metals. The slurry exhibiting the best ceramized ability was used to examine the relationship between the ceramic thickness and reactive time, ceramic thickness and reactive temperature, and infiltration depth and slurry-coating thickness. The results show that the thickness of the ceramic layer increases with reactive time and temperature and the infiltration depth increases with the coating thickness. PCS–Si90Zr10 slurry RMI was selected to modify cylindrical nozzle C/C preforms, and dense C/C–SiC–ZrC composites with a density of ~2.05 g cm−3 were obtained. Owing to the good control of the PCS–Si90Zr10 slurry RMI on the interface, matrix, and carbon fiber of the as-received cylindrical composites, the bending strength of the C/C–SiC–ZrC composites was as high as 306.4 MPa, which is considerably higher than that of a C/C preforms (70.4 MPa). Considering the ablation resistance, the mass and linear ablation rates of the C/C–SiC–ZrC composite (~0.29 mg s−1 and ~2.48 × 10−3 mm s−1, respectively) were similar to those of the composites prepared using traditional RMI (~0.23 mg s−1 and ~2.29 × 10−3 mm s−1). The proposed polymer–metal RMI is more suitable for the modification of C/C preforms with thin-wall structures owing to its advantages including precise control of infiltration dose and flexible operation of slurry coating. Furthermore, it is suitable for the local modification of C/C components.  相似文献

In this research, a SiC/ZrB2 coating was produced on graphite by reactive melt infiltration and plasma spraying method. The coating characterization was performed using XRD analysis, electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and supersonic flame ablation test at 2073 K. The results indicated that the dense C/SiC coating with good ablation resistance can be obtained at 1873 K. The coating thickness decreased with increasing infiltration temperature. The results of ablation test showed that by increasing the infiltration temperature and holding time, weight loss and mass ablation rate decreased from 22.63% to 9.83% and 3.63 × 10−3 g cm−2 s−1 to 1.34 × 10−3 g cm−2 s−1, respectively. The results showed that by using the ZrB2 as outer coating the ablation resistance improved remarkably. The weight loss and mass ablation rates for the SiC/ZrB2 coating were 12.79% and 1.857 × 10−3 g cm−2 s−1, respectively.  相似文献

The preparation of SiC coating on C/C composites via a pack cementation method would cause serious mechanical damage to C/C substrate due to the siliconization corrosion by molten silicon during the ultra-high-temperature preparation process (2173–2373 K). In order to prepare SiC coated C/C composites with excellent mechanical and antioxidative properties, we applied a buffer layer on the surface of C/C to inhibit siliconization corrosion and densify coating. Results showed that the siliconized area ratio of the C/C substrate was decreased from 60.9% to 24.8%, and its bending strength was increased from 36.9 MPa to 60.6 MPa. Moreover, the mass loss of the modified SiC coated C/C sample has reduced by ~4.14 times after oxidation for 144 h in air at 1773 K and decreased from 2.44% to ? 0.15% after suffering 50 thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K.  相似文献

Oxidation-resistant yttrium silicates coatings for SiC precoated carbon/carbon composites were prepared by a novel hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process. Sonochemical-synthesized yttrium silicates nanocrystallites, isopropanol, and iodine were respectively used as source materials, solvent, and charging agent during the deposition. Phase compositions, surface and cross-section microstructures of the as-prepared multilayer coatings were characterized by an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influence of deposition temperatures on the phase, microstructure, and oxidation resistance of the multilayer coated C/C composites was particularly investigated. Results show that the as-prepared outer coatings are composed of yttrium silicates crystallites with a main phase of Y2Si2O7 and Y2SiO5. The thickness and density of the yttrium silicates coatings are improved with the increase of deposition temperature. Compared with SiC coating prepared by pack cementation, the multilayer coatings prepared by pack cementation with a later hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process exhibit better antioxidation properties. The as-prepared multilayer coatings can effectively protect C/C composites from oxidation at 1773 K in air for 35 h with a weight loss of 0.32 × 10−3 g/cm2.  相似文献

To improve the ablation resistance of SiC coating, HfB2-SiC coating was prepared on SiC-coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by in-situ reaction method. Owing to the penetration of coating powders, there is no clear boundary between SiC coating and HfB2-SiC coating. After oxyacetylene ablation for 60 s at heat flux of 2400 kW/m2, the mass ablation rate and linear ablation rate of the coated C/C composites were only 0.147 mg/s and 0.267 µm/s, reduced by 21.8% and 60.0%, respectively, compared with SiC coated C/C composites. The good ablation resistance was attributed to the formation of multiple Hf-Si-O glassy layer including SiO2, HfO2 and HfSiO4.  相似文献
