Blogs have been considered the 4th Internet application that can cause radical changes in the world, after e-mail, instant messaging, and Bulletin Board System (BBS). Many Internet users rely heavily on them to express their emotions and personal comments on whatever topics interest them. Nowadays, blogs have become the popular media and could be viewed as new marketing channels. Depending on the blog search engine, Technorati, we tracked about 94 million blogs in August 2007. It also reported that a whole new blog is created every 7.4 seconds and 275,000 blogs are updated daily. These figures can be used to illustrate the reason why more and more companies attempt to discover useful knowledge from this vast number of blogs for business purposes. Therefore, blog mining could be a new trend of web mining. The major objective of this study is to present a structure that includes unsupervised (self-organizing map) and supervised learning methods (back-propagation neural networks, decision tree, and support vector machines) for extracting knowledge from blogs, namely, a blog mining (BM) model. Moreover, a real case regarding VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone products is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

This study examines how politically interested Internet users perceive blogs as a credible source of news and information. More specifically, this study aims to identify a new possible factor that has a moderating impact on blog credibility assessment in the collaborative nature of digital media circumstances. This study found that blog credibility was predicted by the interaction between blog reliance and online news activity, indicating that those who more actively interact with news and with other users judge blogs as more credible than those who do less so. Implications of the findings were discussed for future research.  相似文献

This study used an online panel of Internet users to examine the degree to which blog users practice selective exposure when seeking political information. The research employed a path analysis model to explore the extent to which exposure to offline and online discussion of political issues, and offline and online media use, as well as political variables and demographic factors, predict an individual's likelihood to engage in selective exposure to blogs. The findings indicate that respondents did practice selective exposure to blogs, predominantly those who are heavy blog users, politically active both online and offline, partisan, and highly educated.  相似文献

The author predicts the future of the Internet. The Internet was first used for remote terminal login, then file transfer, e-mail, and newsgroups. A long time later, we got Web publishing. Now there's Web commerce. Where next? Well, as broadband is deployed and the Internet heads toward all-optical, there will be a lot more e-mail, a lot more Web commerce, and so on. But what new applications will develop? For one thing, the Internet will subsume the telephone network. Telephone traffic is increasing less than 10 percent per year, while Internet traffic is doubling every four months. If Internet traffic did not surpass telephony by the end of the millennium, it will soon. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) will be a trivia sidelight of the Internet right after that. After telephone, television. Internet protocols and bandwidth will need upgrading before television can be carried well, but it inevitably will move to the Internet. Why? The Internet can make television interactive: give it a million channels. The author does not mean turning your TV into a PC monitor, and he doesn't mean carrying the Internet on television networks (CTMs). He means carrying television on the Internet, in packets, using Internet packets: TVoIP. After that: Internet telepresence. There will be major substitutions of communication for travel. This study employs an online survey to examine U.S. politically-interested Internet users' perceptions of the credibility of blogs. The article focuses on the influence of blog reliance compared to motivations for visiting blogs in determining blog credibility. The study found that blogs were judged as moderately credible, but as more credible than any mainstream media or online source. Both reliance and motivations predicted blog credibility after controlling for demographics and political variables. Reliance proved a consistently stronger predictor than blog motivations. Also, information-seeking motives predicted credibility better than entertainment ones.  相似文献

The rapid growth in Internet applications in tourism has lead to an enormous amount of personal reviews for travel-related information on the Web. These reviews can appear in different forms like BBS, blogs, Wiki or forum websites. More importantly, the information in these reviews is valuable to both travelers and practitioners for various understanding and planning processes. An intrinsic problem of the overwhelming information on the Internet, however, is information overloading as users are simply unable to read all the available information. Query functions in search engines like Yahoo and Google can help users find some of the reviews that they needed about specific destinations. The returned pages from these search engines are still beyond the visual capacity of humans. In this research, sentiment classification techniques were incorporated into the domain of mining reviews from travel blogs. Specifically, we compared three supervised machine learning algorithms of Naïve Bayes, SVM and the character based N-gram model for sentiment classification of the reviews on travel blogs for seven popular travel destinations in the US and Europe. Empirical findings indicated that the SVM and N-gram approaches outperformed the Naïve Bayes approach, and that when training datasets had a large number of reviews, all three approaches reached accuracies of at least 80%.  相似文献

This research explores traditional mass media as an antecedent to nondirected self-disclosure online. New Internet-based tools allow users to communicate with global audiences, and to make intimate personal information available to this audience. At the same time, a culture that rewards the public performance of private thoughts and emotions is increasingly evident in "reality" television (RTV) programming. This study used survey data to examine RTV consumption, authoritarianism, and users' offline social context as potential antecedents for nondirected self-disclosure via blogs, online photo sharing, and online video sharing. RTV consumption correlated with blogging and video sharing, but not photo sharing. Social support network size was a significant correlate of photo sharing, indicating that photo sharing may be a more relational activity.  相似文献

随着互联网的快速发展,社交媒体日益广泛而深刻地融入人们日常生活的各个方面。社交媒体逐渐成为人们彼此之间用来分享意见、见解、经验和观点的工具和平台,是人们获取分享信息、表达交流观点的主要途径。社交媒体在互联网的沃土上蓬勃发展,爆发出令人眩目的能量。由于社交媒体的开放性,用户规模庞大且来源复杂众多,容易产生各种各样的谣言虚假信息。社交媒体谣言左右着网民对事件的认识、动摇着社会的稳定。因此,如何准确高效地检测谣言成为当下亟待解决的问题。现有基于 Transformer的社交媒体谣言检测模型忽略了文本位置信息。为有效提取文本位置信息,充分利用文本潜在信息,提出了一种基于改进 Transformer 的社交媒体谣言检测模型。该模型从相对位置和绝对位置两方面对传统Transformer 进行改进:一方面采用可学习的相对位置编码捕捉文本的方向信息和距离信息;另一方面采用绝对位置编码将不同位置词语映射到不同特征空间。实验结果表明,与其他基准模型相比,所提模型在Twitter15、Twitter16和Weibo 3种数据集上的准确率分别提高了0.9%、0.6%和1.4%。实验结果验证了所提的位置编码改进有效,基于位置编码改进的Transformer模型可显著提升社交媒体谣言检测效果。  相似文献

The Internet has penetrated China at a rapid rate. However, there exist a wide range of constraining forces, such as governmental control, inadequate infrastructure, economic affordability, cultural perceptions, and language barriers. This paper tests the impact of access to the Internet and other sources of information, perceived credibility of the Internet and conventional media, and cognitive sophistication of Chinese audiences on the choice of rival value orientations such as Communism, Materialism, and Post-materialism. The data come from a survey of 2,600 adults in Beijing and Guangzhou in November-December 2000. Multinomial logistic regression analyses show that perceived credibility of the Internet, cognitive sophistication, and access to Hong Kong-based television have a significant impact on the preference for particular value orientations. Analysis of the sub-sample of Internet users further reveals the importance of participation in online chatting. The findings bear important implications for the role of the Internet in the political development of transitional societies.  相似文献

This paper discusses the role of blogs, wikis, and online discussion boards in enabling rational-critical debate. I will use the work of Jürgen Habermas to explain why wikis, blogs, and online bulletin boards are all potentially valuable tools for the creation and maintenance of a critical public sphere. Habermas’ story ends on a sad note; the public writing environments he argues were so essential to the formation of a critical public sphere failed as commercialism and mass media diminished the role of the community and private persons. Unfortunately, the Internet will likely suffer a similar fate if we do not take action to preserve its inherently democratic and decentralized architecture. Here, I describe the integral role that blogs, wikis, and discussion boards play in fostering public discussion and ways they can be incorporated into college composition courses.  相似文献

Massive amounts of information about news events are published on the Internet every day in online newspapers, blogs, and social network messages. While search engines like Google help retrieve information using keywords, the large volumes of unstructured search results returned by search engines make it hard to track the evolution of an event. A story chain is composed of a set of news articles that reveal hidden relationships among different events. Traditional keyword-based search engines provide limited support for finding story chains. In this paper, we propose a random walk based algorithm to find story chains. When breaking news happens, many media outlets report the same event. We have two pruning mechanisms in the algorithm to automatically exclude redundant articles from the story chain and to ensure efficiency of the algorithm. We further explore how named entities and word relevance can help find relevant news articles and improve algorithm efficiency by creating a co-clustering based correlation graph. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm can generate coherent story chains without redundancy. The efficiency of the algorithm is significantly improved on the correlation graph.  相似文献

While the media industry may consider credibility its most valuable asset, scholars suggest there is a potential “dark side” to credibility: Perceptions of credibility of a source lead to selective exposure and selective avoidance, and both lead to increased fragmentation and polarization of social and political views. The link between credibility and selective exposure and avoidance has not received much academic attention, therefore this study employed a survey of politically interested Internet users during the 2008 presidential campaign to test the influence of credibility and reliance on selective exposure and avoidance after controlling for demographic and political factors. This study found little evidence of a dark side to credibility. Respondents who judge blogs as credible search for information that supports their point of view, as well as challenges their opinions.  相似文献

The paper discusses that IPTV isn't just about delivering digital television over Internet technology; it's about reinventing television to better achieve the goals Sarnoff first articulated decades ago. It's about developing a new medium that's greater than the sum of its parts. It's about creating a video- centric, next-generation Internet accessible on any device, be it mobile phone, computer, or HDTV, at any time and place the consumer chooses. It's about leveraging the Internet's power to better navigate the flood of content flowing our way.
