In this paper, a finite volume numerical method is developed to investigate a high temperature polymer exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer cell using a three-dimensional and non-isothermal model. The results that are obtained for the single cell are generalized to a full stack of electrolyzer and an exergoeconomic analysis is performed based on the numerical data. The effects of operating temperature, the pressure of cathode, gas diffusion layer (GDL) thickness, and membrane thickness on the energy and exergy efficiencies and exergy cost of the electrolyzer are examined. This study reveals that by increasing the working temperature from 363 K to 393 K, the exergy cost of hydrogen decreases from 23.16 $/GJ to 22.39 $/GJ, and the exergy efficiency of PEM electrolyzer stack at current density of 10,000 A/m2 increases from 0.56 to 0.59. The results indicate that increase of pressure deteriorates the system performance at voltages below 1.4 V. It is concluded that operation of the electrolyzer at higher pressures results in decrease of the exergy cost of hydrogen. Increase of membrane thickness from 50 μm to 183 μm leads to increase of the exergy cost of hydrogen from 23.24 $/GJ to 35.99 $/GJ.  相似文献

In this paper, a conceptual hybrid biomass gasification system is developed to produce hydrogen and is exergoeconomically analyzed. The system is based on steam biomass gasification with the lumped solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) subsystem as the core components. The gasifier gasifies sawdust in a steam medium and operates at a temperature range of 1023-1423 K and near atmospheric pressure. The analysis is conducted for a specific steam biomass ratio of 0.8 kmol-steam/kmol-biomass. The gasification process is assumed to be self-thermally standing. The pressurized SOFC and SOEC are of planar types and operate at 1000 K and 1.2 bar. The system can produce multi-outputs, such as hydrogen (with a production capacity range of 21.8-25.2 kgh−1), power and heat. The internal hydrogen consumption in the lumped SOFC-SOEC subsystem increases from 8.1 to 8.6 kg/h. The SOFC performs an efficiency of 50.3% and utilizes the hydrogen produced from the steam that decomposes in the SOEC. The exergoeconomic analysis is performed to investigate and describe the exergetic and economic interactions between the system components through calculations of the unit exergy cost of the process streams. It obtains a set of cost balance equations belonging to an exergy flow with material streams to and from the components which constitute the system. Solving the developed cost balance equations provides the cost values of the exergy streams. For the gasification temperature range and the electricity cost of 0.1046 $/kWh considered, the unit exergy cost of hydrogen ranges from 0.258 to 0.211 $/kWh.  相似文献

In this study, a comprehensive performance analysis of a transportation system powered by a PEM fuel cell engine system is conducted thermodynamically both through energy and exergy approaches. This system includes system components such as a compressor, humidifiers, pressure regulator, cooling system and the fuel cell stack. The polarization curves are studied in the modeling and compared with the actual data taken from the literature works before proceeding to the performance modeling. The system performance is investigated through parametric studies on energy, exergy and work output values by changing operating temperature, operating pressure, membrane thickness, anode stoichiometry, cathode stoichiometry, humidity, reference temperature and reference pressure. The results show that the exergy efficiency increases with increase of temperature from 323 to 353 K by about 8%, pressure from 2.5 to 4 atm by about 5%, humidity from 97% to 80% by about 10%, and reference state temperature from 253 to 323 K by about 3%, respectively. In addition, the exergy efficiency increases with decrease of membrane thickness from 0.02 to 0.005 mm by about 9%, anode stoichiometry from 3 to 1.1 by about 1%, and cathode stoichiometry from 3 to 1.1 by about 35% respectively.  相似文献

Exergy efficiency analysis tool is used to evaluate sorption enhanced steam reforming in comparison with the industrial hydrogen production route, steam reforming. The study focuses on hydrogen production for use in high pressure processes. Thermodynamic sensitivity analysis (effect of reforming temperature on hydrogen yield and reforming enthalpy) was performed to indicate the optimum temperature (650 °C) for the sorption enhanced reforming. The pressure was selected to be, for both cases, 25 bar, a typical pressure used in the industrial (conventional) process. Atmospheric pressure, 1000 °C and CO2 as inert gas were specified as the optimum operating parameters for the regeneration of the sorbent after performing exergy efficiency analysis of three realistic case scenarios. Aspen Plus simulation process schemes were built for conventional and sorption enhanced steam reforming processes to attain the mass and energy balances required to assess comparatively exergy analysis. Simulation results showed that sorption enhanced reforming can lead to a hydrogen purity increase by 17.3%, along with the recovery of pure and sequestration-ready carbon dioxide. The exergy benefit of sorption enhanced reforming was calculated equal to 3.2%. Analysis was extended by adding a CO2 separation stage in conventional reforming to reach the hydrogen purity of sorption enhanced reforming and enable a more effective exergy efficiency comparison. Following that analysis, sorption enhanced reforming gained 10.8% in exergy efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper, a mathematical model is developed to study the performance of a polymer membrane electrolyser (PEM) and the effect of different parameters including operating temperature, cathode pressure, membrane thickness, the width and height of channel and current density on the performance and energy and exergy efficiency of PEM electrolyser are investigated. In addition to the resistance overvoltage of components, the concentration overvoltage is modeled using an accurate equation. The model is validated against experimental data. The results indicate that by increasing current density, the voltage of the electrolyser increases, and energy and exergy efficiencies reduce. Increase of temperature from 313 K to 353 K, and decrease of cathode pressure from 40 bar to 1 bar lead to decrease of voltage of the PEM electrolyser by 8.3% and 4.8%, respectively. Moreover, energy and exergy efficiencies increase between 2% and 6% in the range of working temperature and pressure. It is concluded that decrease of membrane thickness, height and width of channel, and increase of exchange current density of the anode and cathode electrodes lead to decrease of voltage of the electrolyser and increase of energy and exergy efficiencies. However, the effect of temperature and cathode pressure and the exchange current densities is greater than the effect of geometric parameters.  相似文献

Considerable recent ecological and energy concerns have aroused the exploitation of sustainable resources and cost-effective production of green energy carriers such as liquid hydrogen. Despite the remarkable merits of the multi-component refrigerant cycle in enhancing the hydrogen liquefaction process efficiency, it contributes to problematic controllability, increasing investment costs. Moreover, it is not easily possible to keep the composition share of refrigerants in case of leakage. This paper develops an innovative integrated structure for liquid hydrogen production, which benefits from the compression-ejector unit and six cascade multi-component refrigerant cycles in the pre-cooling and liquefaction stages. The Kalina power generation uses wasted heat in the integrated system. A power of 595.6 MW is necessary to produce 22.34 kg/s liquid hydrogen, resulting in specific energy consumption (SEC) of 7.405 kWh/kg LH2 and a coefficient of performance (COP) of 0.103. Besides, the COP of the compression-ejector refrigeration cycle is 0.8682, and the thermal efficiency of the Kalina cycle is 0.1228. The exergy efficiencies of the proposed structure and the ejector-compression refrigeration cycles are 0.2359 and 0.6462, respectively. Heat exchangers take the lion's share of exergy destruction with 39.55%, followed by gas turbines (27.92%) and compressors (21.81%). Based on sensitivity analysis, with the pressure increase in the secondary stream of Ejector1, the SEC increases by 7.435 kWh/kgLH2, and the COP of the ejector-compression refrigeration cycle decreases by 0.8242. As the pressure rises in the Kalina cycle, the SEC declines to a low of 7.4135 kWh/kg LH2 at 26 bar, then increases with pressure.  相似文献

Combustion is the primary source for exergy loss in power systems such as combustion engines. To elucidate the exergy loss behaviors in combustion and explore the principle for efficiency improvement, the second-law thermodynamic analysis was conducted to analyze the energy conversion characteristics in laminar premixed flames of methane/hydrogen binary fuels. The sources causing exergy losses in laminar premixed flames included five parts, namely heat conduction, mass diffusion, viscous dissipation, chemical reactions and incomplete combustion, respectively. The calculations were conducted at both atmospheric and elevated pressures, with the equivalence ratio varying from 0.6 to 1.5 and the hydrogen blending ratio increasing from 0% to 70%. The results indicated that the total exergy loss firstly increased and then decreased with increased equivalence ratio, and reached the minimum value at the equivalence ratio of 0.9. This was primarily due to the trade-off relation between the decreased exergy loss from entropy generation and the increased exergy loss from incomplete combustion, as equivalence ratio increased. As the hydrogen blending ratio increased from 0% to 70%, the total exergy loss decreased by 2%. Specifically, the exergy loss from heat conduction decreased, primarily due to the decreased flame thickness. Moreover, the reactions with H2, H and H2O as reactants were inhibited, leading to decreased the exergy loss from chemical reactions. As pressure increased from 1 atm to 5 atm, the total exergy loss decreased by 1%, because the exergy losses induced by heat conduction and chemical reactions decreased as the flame thickness was reduced. The exergy loss from incomplete combustion also decreased, because elevated pressure inhibited dissociations and decreased the mole fractions of incomplete combustion products.  相似文献

This study investigates the simulation of a proposed small-scale laboratory liquid hydrogen plant with a new, innovative multi-component refrigerant (MR) refrigeration system. The simulated test rig was capable of liquefying a feed of 2 kg/h of normal hydrogen gas at 21 bar and 25 °C to normal liquid hydrogen at 2 bar and −250 °C. The simulated power consumption for pre-cooling the hydrogen from 25 °C to −198 °C with this new MR cycle was 2.07 kWh/kgGH2 from the ideal minimum of 0.7755 kWh per kilogram of feed hydrogen gas. This was the lowest power consumption available when compared to today’s conventional hydrogen liquefaction cycles, which are approximately 4.00 kWh/kgGH2. Hence, the MR cycle’s exergy efficiency was 38.3%. Exergy analysis of the test rig’s cycle, which is required to find the losses and optimize the proposed MR system, was evaluated for each component using the simulation data. It was found that the majority of the losses were from the compressors, heat exchangers, and expansion valves. Suggestions are provided for how to reduce exergy in each component in order to reduce the exergy loss. Finally, further improvements for better efficiency of the test rig are explained to assist in the design of a future large-scale hydrogen liquefaction plant.  相似文献

A transient thermodynamic analysis is reported of a novel chemical hydrogen storage system using energy and exergy approaches. The hydrogen is stored chemically in ammonia using the proposed hydrogen storage system and recovered via the electrochemical decomposition of ammonia through an ammonia electrolyzer. The proposed hydrogen storage system is based on a novel subzero ammonia production reactor. A single stage refrigeration system maintains the ammonia production reactor at a temperature of −10 °C. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the proposed system are 85.6% and 85.3% respectively. The proposed system consumes 34.0 kJ of work through the process of storing 1 mol of hydrogen and recovering it using the ammonia electrolyzer. The system is simulated for filling 30,000 L of ammonia at a pressure of 5 bar, and the system was able to store 7500 kg of ammonia in a liquid state (1% vapor) in 1500 s. The system consumes nearly 45.3 GJ of energy to store the 7500 kg of ammonia and to decompose it to reproduce the stored hydrogen during the discharge phase.  相似文献

Liquid helium and hydrogen are two precious cryogens with advanced applications in various energy research fields. However, producing these cryogens generally come with high-cost processes. In this research, Liquid hydrogen is obtained in two stages with the aid of a mixed refrigeration subprocess and helium cryogen. Also, liquid helium is obtained in three stages with the aid of helium upgrader, pressure swing adsorption, and helium liquefier subprocesses. The liquid helium is produced at 19.42 K, 195 kPa, and 6161 kgmole/h. Also, the liquid hydrogen is produced at 3.69 K, 110.3 kPa, and 17,970 kgmole/h. The novelties of this research can be described as the production of liquid helium and hydrogen simultaneously, low SEC, novel configuration, and production of liquid helium and hydrogen at near ambient pressure. Thermodynamic analyses show that the specific energy consumption, coefficient of performance, and figure of merit are equal to 18.96 kW h/kg, 0.03, and 0.37, respectively. Also, the exergy analysis shows that the exergy efficiency and exergy destruction in the whole process are equal to 67% and 4471 MW, respectively. Also, sensitivity analysis shows that increasing the PSA process efficiency positively impacts all process parameters like SEC, COP, FOM, and exergy efficiency.  相似文献

This study deals with the energy and exergy analysis of a molten carbonate fuel cell hybrid system to determine the efficiencies, irreversibilities and performance of the system. The analysis includes the operation of each component of the system by mass, energy and exergy balance equations. A parametric study is performed to examine the effect of varying operating pressure, temperature and current density on the performance of the system. Furthermore, thermodynamic irreversibilities in each component of the system are determined. An overall energy efficiency of 57.4%, exergy efficiency of 56.2%, bottoming cycle energy efficiency of 24.7% and stack energy efficiency of 43.4% are achieved. The results demonstrate that increasing the stack pressure decreases the overpotential losses and, therefore, increases the stack efficiency. However, this increase is limited by the remaining operating conditions and the material selection of the stack. The fuel cell and the other components in which chemical reactions occur, show the highest exergy destruction in this system. The compressor and turbine on the other hand, have the lowest entropy generation and, thus, the lowest exergy destruction.  相似文献

This paper investigates the performance of a hydrogen refueling system that consists of a polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzer integrated with photovoltaic arrays, and an electrochemical compressor to increase the hydrogen pressure. The energetic and exergetic performance of the hydrogen refueling station is analyzed at different working conditions. The exergy cost of hydrogen production is studied in three different case scenarios; that consist of i) off-grid station with the photovoltaic system and a battery bank to supply the required electric power, ii) on-grid station but the required power is supplied by the electric grid only when solar energy is not available and iii) on-grid station without energy storage. The efficiency of the station significantly increases when the electric grid empowers the system. The maximum energy and exergy efficiencies of the photovoltaic system at solar irradiation of 850 W m-2 are 13.57% and 14.51%, respectively. The exergy cost of hydrogen production in the on-grid station with energy storage is almost 30% higher than the off-grid station. Moreover, the exergy cost of hydrogen in the on-grid station without energy storage is almost 4 times higher than the off-grid station and the energy and exergy efficiencies are considerably higher.  相似文献

Nickel sulfide-based materials have shown great potential for electrode fabrication owing to their high theoretical specific capacitance but poor conductivity and morphological aggregation. A feasible strategy is to design hybrid structure by introducing highly-conductive porous carbon as the supporting matrix. Herein, we synthesized hybrid composites consisting of interconnected NiS-nanosheets and porous carbon (NiS@C) derived from Zeolitic-imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) using a facile low-temperature water-bath method. When employed as electrode materials, the as-prepared NiS@C nanocomposites present remarkable electrochemical performance owing to the complex effect that is the combined advantages of double-layer capacitor-type porous carbon and pseudocapacitor-type interconnected-NiS nanosheets. Specifically, the NiS@C nanocomposites exhibit a high specific capacitance of 1827 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, and excellent cyclic stability with a capacity retention of 72% at a very high current density of 20 A g−1 after 5000 cycles. Moreover, the fabricated hybrid supercapacitor delivers 21.6 Wh kg−1 at 400 W kg−1 with coulombic efficiency of 93.9%, and reaches 10.8 Wh kg−1 at a high power density of 8000 W kg−1, along with excellent cyclic stability of 84% at 5 A g−1 after 5000 cycles. All results suggest that NiS@C nanocomposites are applicable to high-performance electrodes in hybrid supercapacitors and other energy-storage device applications.  相似文献

In the present study, the energy and exergy analysis were carried out for a Deutz dual fuel (diesel + hydrogen) engine at different gas fuel-air ratios (øH2 = 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8) and constant diesel fuel amount (6.48 mg/cycle). The energy analysis was performed during a closed cycle by using a three-dimensional CFD code and combustion modeling was carried out by Extend Coherent Flame Model- Three Zone model (ECFM-3Z). For the exergy analysis, an in-house computational code is developed, which uses the results of the energy analysis at different fuel-air ratios. The cylinder pressure results for natural gas/diesel fuelled engine are verified with the experimental data in the literature, which shows a good agreement. This verification gives confidence in the model prediction for hydrogen- fuelled case. With crank position at different gas fuel-air ratios, various rate and cumulative exergy components are identified and calculated separately. It is found that as gas fuel-air ratio increases from 0.3 to 0.8, the exergy efficiency decreases from 43.7% to 34.5%. Furthermore, the value of irreversibility decreases from 29.8% to 26.6% of the mixture fuels chemical exergies. These values are in good agreement with data in the literature for dual fuel engines.  相似文献

A micro-combustor is the key component of the micro thermo photovoltaic power generation system. The energy conversion efficiency of the system strongly depends on the outer wall temperature and the exergy efficiency of the micro-combustor. A novel preheater-conductor plate was designed to be inserted into a cylindrical micro-combustor to improve the outer wall temperature and the exergy efficiency by preheating premixed hydrogen/air mixture via the preheater plate and conducting out the heat in the combustion chamber via the conductor plate. The impact of the width of preheater plate, the gradually increased and decreased thickness with divergent angle and convergent angle of conductor plate, and the inserted number of conductor plate on the thermal performance of the micro-combustor were investigated. It is found that the gradually varying thickness of the conductor plate has a slight influence on micro-combustor performance compared to other factors. Inserting a preheater-conductor plate with the 0.5 mm-wide preheater plate and the three 0.5 mm-thick conductor plates improve the mean outer wall temperature and the exergy efficiency of the micro-combustor by 173 K and 22.9% respectively. It is indicated that the proposed preheater-conductor plate is capable of considerably improving the thermal performance of premixed hydrogen/air fueled cylindrical micro-combustor.  相似文献

The energy efficiency of the hydrogen liquefaction process is studied, and a general model of the hydrogen liquefaction process is built for analyzing the energy efficiency and the influence of multiple parameters. Energy and exergy analysis models of the typical single-pass cycle and multiple-pass cycle are developed. The specific relationships among the parameters and energy efficiency of the total liquefaction system are deduced. A hydrogen liquefaction process with precooling nitrogen and cryogenic helium cycles is studied. For the precooling and cryogenic cycles, the SEC and net power consumption of the cryogenic helium cycle have different variation trends along with the precooling temperature and hydrogen liquefaction ratio. Their optimal values are identified to be ?194 °C and 0.9453, and the corresponding SEC, exergy efficiency, total capital expense, and total annual cost are 3.619 kWh/kgLH2, 33.44%, 82.58%, 8.263 M$, and 531.62 M$/yr, respectively. The proposed model can be used in the design and operation stages to analyze the variation of energy efficiency along with multiple parameters of the hydrogen liquefaction process.  相似文献

In this paper, a common low-cost chemical material-polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is transformed into porous carbon with excellent specific surface area (2564.6–3048.8 m2 g−1) and highly concentrated micropore size distribution (0.7–2.0 nm). Benefit to the unique structure, the as-prepared materials show appealing hydrogen adsorption capacity (4.70–5.94 wt % at 20 bar, 7.15–10.14 wt % at 50 bar), demonstrating a promising prospect of practical application. This work also confirmed that the narrow and deep ultramicropore (<0.7 nm) could facilitate adsorption of hydrogen molecules significantly at atmospheric pressure, and the volume increase of supermicropore (0.7–2.0 nm) could lead to hydrogen capacity promotion at relative high pressure (>20 bar), which provides valuable guidance for the construction of ideal porous adsorbent for efficiency hydrogen storage.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel molten carbonate fuel cell hybrid power generation process with using solar parabolic dish thermal energy is proposed. The process contains MCFC, Oxy-fuel and Rankine power generation cycles. The Rankine power generation cycles utilized various types of working fluid to emphasize taking advantage of the cycles in different thermodynamic conditions. The required hot and cold energies are provided from solar dish parabolic thermal hot and liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energies, respectively. The carbon dioxide (CO2) from MCFC effluent stream is captured from the process at liquid state. The process total heat integrated and in this regards, no need to any hot and cold external sources with the net electrical power generation. The energy and exergy analysis are conducted to determine the approaches to improve the process performance. This integrated structure consumed 2.30 × 106 kg h−1 of air and 2.67 × 106 kg h−1 of LNG to generate 292597 kW of net power. The products of this integrated structure are 6.25 × 104 kg h−1 of condensates, 183 kg h−1 of water vapor, 2.20 × 106 kg h−1 of MCFC effluent stream, 2.60 × 106 kg h−1 of natural gas and 1.10 × 105 kg h−1 of CO2 in liquid state. The presented new integrated structure has overall thermal efficiency of 73.14% and total exergy efficiency of 63.19%. Also, sensitivity analysis is performed for determination of the process key parameters which affected the process operating performance.  相似文献

The paper deals with second law thermodynamic analysis of a basic gas turbine based gas-steam combined cycle. The article investigates the effect of variation of cycle parameters on rational efficiency and component-wise non-dimensionalised exergy destruction of the plant. Component-wise inefficiencies of the combined cycle have been quantified with the objective to pin-point the major sources of exergy destruction. The parameter that affects cycle performance most is the TIT (turbine inlet temperature). TIT should be kept on the higher side, because at lower values, the exergy destruction is higher. The summation of total exergy destruction of all components in percentage terms is lower (44.88%) at TIT of 1800 K & rp,c = 23, as compared to that at TIT = 1700 K. The sum total of rational efficiency of gas turbine and steam turbine is found to be higher (54.91%) at TIT = 1800 K & rp,c = 23, as compared to that at TIT = 1700 K. Compressor pressure ratio also affects the exergy performance. The sum total of exergy destruction of all components of the combined cycle plant is lower (44.17%) at higher value of compressor pressure ratio (23)& TIT = 1700 K, as compared to that at compressor pressure ratio (16). Also exergy destruction is minimized with the adoption of multi-pressure-reheat steam generator configuration.  相似文献
