TV newspapers in ISDB-multimedia information broadcasting services

TV newspapers called PRESENT are multimedia information broadcasting services which provide information programs consisting of text, still pictures, video, and sound. PRESENT is an important application of ISDB and provides interactive programs with easy operation. This paper first describes the basic functions of the multimedia information broadcasting services, interactive program presentation, multimedia structuring, and indexing. Second, systems for realizing interactive presentation in the broadcasting services are discussed and the stored reception system is found to be appropriate for the PRESENT system. Multimedia structuring methods are also discussed and the layout structure, the logical structure, and the hyper-link structure for PRESENT are optimized. It is shown that the automatic indexing method plays an important role in providing effective information access for users. Finally, these services are tested using the experimental PRESENT system which is designed to use satellite broadcast data channels     

One hybrid ARQ for broadcasting or multicasting in wireless erasure channel

In this paper, we introduce a new hybrid ARQ technique for broadcasting or multicasting in erasure channel. The system is tested according to the objective criteria—quantity of information sent by the source, loses, and number of negative acknowledgments (NACKs) sent by the receiver nodes (end nodes). We compare our proposed method with automatic repeat request (ARQ), hybrid ARQ II (HARQ II), and also with a forward error correction (FEC) transmission technique based on Reed Solomon code (RS). The main focus of the presented HARQ is to reduce the quantity of redundant information sent by the source as well as the number of NACKs sent by the receivers, maintaining the condition that all the information is being recovered successfully by the receivers.

A random access optical heterodyne receiver for a coherent FDM broadcasting system has been developed, using a wavelength tunable local DBR LD, polarisation diversity technique and a random access automatic frequency controller. In a 10-channel FDM experimental system, 114 GHz capture range, 80 GHz lock range and arbitrary channel selection within less than 1 ms were realised.<>

ADS-B Data Authentication Based on ECC and X.509 Certificate

An automatic dependent surveillancebroadcast(ADS-B) system has serious security problems,and the data can be spoofed during broadcasting precise position information of aircraft.A solution of the ADS-B system data authentication based on the elliptic curve cipher(ECC) and X.509 certificate is proposed.It can avoid the key distribution problem by using the symmetric key algorithm and prevent the ADS-B data from being spoofed thoroughly.Experimental test results show that the solution is valid and appropriate in ADS-B universal access transceiver(UAT) mode.     

Tennis Video 2.0: A new presentation of sports videos with content separation and rendering

This paper proposes a new method for presenting sports videos. Tennis videos are used as an example for the implementation of a viewing program called as Tennis Video 2.0. For the methods in video analysis, background generation by considering the pixels in temporal and spatial distribution is proposed; foreground segmentation combining automatic trimap generation and matting model is proposed. To provide more functions in watching videos, the rendering flow of video contents and the semantic Scalability are proposed. With the new analysis and rendering tools, the presentation of sports videos has three properties—Structure, Interactivity, and Scalability. The experiments show that several broadcasting game videos are employed to evaluate the robustness and performance of the proposed system. For user study, 20 evaluators highly identify that Tennis Video 2.0 is a new presentation of sports videos and give people better viewing experience.
