We present an approach to modeling practical dynamic production planning problems with product sequencing considerations that yields a significant reduction in the number of required binary variables over traditional approaches and improves the structure of special ordered sets which can be exploited in state-of-the-art mixed integer programming codes. Scheduling in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS)must take into account the shorter lead-time, the multiprocessing environment, the flexibility of machine tools, and the dynamically changing states. The scheduling approach described in this paper employs a knowledge-based system to carry out the nonlinear planning method developed in artificial intelligence. The state-space process for plan-generation, by either forward- or backward-chaining, can handle scheduling requirements unique to the FMS environment. A prototype of this scheduling system has been implemented on a LISP machine and is applied to solve the scheduling problem in flexible manufacturing cells. This scheduling method is characterized by its knowledge-based organization, symbolic representation, state-space inferencing, and its ability for dynamic scheduling and plan revision. A flow control method is presented which maximizes throughput rate in a flexible cell operating in a stochastic environment. Cell status is observed at discrete points in time and associated flow control plans are developed using a linear programming model. The flow control plans are then implemented using simple dispatching rules. The performance of the proposed discrete time control method is evaluated via comparison to other methods using hypothetical cell operations. Further research issues are discussed. 相似文献

A multi-phase examination scheduling process applicable to large university settings in general and SUNY at Buffalo (SUNYAB) in particular is proposed. Each scheduling phase is considered an integral part of the overall scheduling process and solved independently. Phase one of scheduling process is wth the assignment of examinations to exam blocks (each containing one or more exams). The objective of this phase is to minimize the number of students taking more than one exam in the same exam block. The problem is solved using a variation of the quadratic assignment problem. Phase two of the scheduling process uses the results from phase one as input. The exam blocks are assigned to exam days in such a way that some measure of students' comfort is maintained. Phase two of the scheduling process is formulated as a set covering problem with an extra constraint. Phase three of the scheduling process which is involved wt h the assignment of exam blocks to exam periods in each day and optimal ordering of exam days is solved heuristically using a traveling salesman problem as part of solution procedure. The performance of the algorithms devised for the multi-phase scheduling process are tested both in terms of quality of the solutions obtained and the computer time to generate these solutions. 相似文献

The basic features of flexible manufacturing systems are reviewed and models for determining the production capacity of such systems are developed. These models show the desirability of a balanced work load, the benefit of diversity in job routing if there is adequate control of the release of jobs (a job shop can be better than a flow shop), and the superiority of common storage for the system over local storage at machines. The models are extended to allow for material handling delays between machines and for unreliable machines. It is also shown that production capacity models can be used to develop good approximations to the mean number of jobs in the system for given job arrival rates and machine utilizations. 相似文献
