Exploration Area and Potential of Natural Gas in Junggar Basin

Junggar Basin, located in Northern Xinjiang between Altai and Tianshan Mountains, is the second largest basin in China with its sedimentary area being about 130,000 square kilometers. A group of caprocks are developed over Carboniferous of the basin, including the Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Paleogene, and Neogene, among which the biggest sedimentary caprock is 15,000 meters thick. The formation and accumulation of oil and gas in the basin can be characterized by multistage and multisource after undergoing multiperiod structural movements such as Late Hercynian, Indosinian, Yanshanian, and Himalaya, etc.

Shengli hopeful to find oilfield with 100-million-ton reservesA total of 27 wells have been so far drilled in Zhuanghai area of Sinopec Shengli Oil Field with the proven oil in place accumulated to 45.46 million tons. It is hopeful to prove another 50 million tons of oil in place in this region next year so that another oil field with the reserves of 100 million tons is taking shape.

Qaidam Basin is a large Meso-Cenozoic interior basin, which is surrounded by Qilianshan Mountains, Altun Mountains, and Kunlun Mountains, and with its geographical area, area of sedimentary rock, and maximal sedimentary thickness being 250 thousand km^2, 121 thousand km2, and 17.2 thousand meters respectively. The natural gas resources is sufficiently abundant in the basin. Present Situation and Exploration Potentialities of Natural Gas Resources in Ordos Basin

Ordos Basin is the second largest sedimentary basin in China, with an area of 370 thousand km^2. Since the first onshore oil well was drilled successfully in northern Shaanxi of China, there has been a century of oil and gas exploration in the basin, and it may be said that the oil exploration has a long history, but for natural gas exploration, it still may be regarded as a new area, because large-scale research, exploration, and development of natural gas in the basin have relatively lagged. The four big gas fields of Jingbian, Sulige, Yulin, and Uxin Banner with respective reserves of more than one hundred giga cubic meters were discovered since 1990s.[第一段]     

Global Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Expenditure in 2003 Rises 4.8 Percent as Compared to Previous Year

A recent survey by Friedman Billings Ramsey (FBR) shows that the oil and gas companies worldwide plan to increase the fund for exploration and development to US$136 billion in 2003, 4.8 percent up from the previous year. The second half of 2003 will see even a higher increase in the fund. In 2002, the exploration and development expenditure of the surveyed oil and gas companies rose 3.6 percent as compared to 2001.

Current Conditions and Outlook of Global Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration

The world is rich in offshore oil and gas resources. The offshore oil reserves account for about 34 percent of the world＇s total. With a 30 percent proven rate, offshore oil exploration is still in its preliminary stage. Based on the statistics by ＂Oil ＆ Gas Journal,＂ as of the January 1, 2006, the proven oil reserves worldwide are 175.7 billion tons and the proven natural gas reserves 173 trillion cubic meters. The global offshore oil reserves approach 135 billion tons, of which 38 billion tons are proven, while the offshore natural gas reserves amount to about 140 trillion cubic meters, of which 40 trillion cubic meters are proven.

Rapid Growth in China＇s Oil ＆ Gas Drilling Equipment Exports

China＇s exports of oil and gas drilling equipment rose to 500 million dollars in 2005 from less than 200 dollars in 2002 for its rapid growth of manufacturing such equipment from the start of 2005, with an annual increment of 26.1 percent. Exports of oil and gas drilling equipment with different types at Shanghai port reached 140 million dollars in the first half of 2006, 3.1 times higher than the same period of last year.

Oil and gas field discovered in Vietnam by Chinese exploration crew

Currently, Sinopec Dian-Qian-Gui Petroleum Exploration Bureau has discovered a oil and gas field through drilling, located in Hanoi Basin, Vietnam, its daily output was 30,000-40,000 cubic meter. This is a historic breakthrough in the projects undertaken by Chinese oil exploration industry in Vietnam. Having seized the opportunities of building China-ASEAN free trade zone, Sinopec Dian-Qian-Gui Petroleum Exploration Bureau goes abroad positively to develop oversea market and participate in the competition with international oil giants. Oil／Gas Accumulation Characteristics and Exploration Methods of the Deltaic Lithologic Reservoirs in Northern Shaanxi Area

东海平湖油气田新一轮油气勘探取得重大发现，勘探人员在新探井——“平湖九井”内发现了良好的油气资源，上海天然气市场有望获得有效补给。     

Characteristics of Oil-gas Resources in Sichuan Basin

Sichuan Basin, a large and old oil-bearing superimposed basin in western China, has an acreage of 190 thousand square kilometers. Its superimposed strata are composed of 7000-12000 meters of sedimentary rock from the Sinian to the Quaternary, in which the strata are mainly marine carbonate below the Middle Triassic and terrestrial clastic rock above the Upper Triassic. For more than 50 years, CNPC has been working in the basin for oil-gas exploration and development and has discovered so far 106 gas fields and 14 oil fields with proven gas reserves achieving 840 billion cubic meters （bcm）and annual gas and crude production reaching 12 bcm and 145 thousand tons respectively. Oil/gas fields in Sichuan Province is currently China＇s largest gas-producing region. Recent exploration and development practices show that gas reserves and production of the basin are still in the upsoaring stage and an understanding of oilgas distribution in the basin is of vital importance for a sustainable development of natural gas in the basin.
