The problem of batch‐to‐batch variation of electronic properties and purity of conjugated polymers used as electron donor and photon harvesting materials in organic solar cells is addressed. A simple method is developed for rapid analysis of electronic quality of polymer‐based materials. It is shown that appearance of impurities capable of charge trapping changes electrophysical properties of conjugated polymers. In particular, a clear correlation between the effective relaxation time τeff and relative photovoltaic performance (η/ηmax) is revealed for samples of poly(3‐hexylthiophene) intentionally polluted with a palladium catalyst. This dependence is also valid for all other investigated samples of conjugated polymers. Therefore, fast impedance measurements at three different frequencies allow one to draw conclusions about the purity of the analyzed polymer sample and even estimate its photovoltaic performance. The developed method might find extensive applications as a simple tool for product quality control in the laboratory and industrial‐scale production of conjugated polymers for electronic applications.  相似文献

Under first‐principles computations, a simple strategy is identified to modulate the electronic and magnetic properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbons (zGNRs). This strategy takes advantage of the effect of the floating dipole field attached to zGNRs via ππ interactions. This dipole field is induced by the acceptor/donor functional groups, which decorate the ladder‐structure polydiacetylene derivatives with an excellent delocalized π‐conjugated backbone. By tuning the acceptor/donor groups, –C≡C– number, and zGNR width, greatly enriched electronic and magnetic properties, e.g., spin gapless semiconducting, half‐metallic, and metallic behaviors, with the antiferromagnetic?ferromagnetic conversion can be achieved in zGNRs with perfect, 57‐reconstructed, and partially hydrogenated edge patterns.  相似文献

Recently, Greiner et al. [Nat. Mater. 2012, 11, 76 ] published a survey of the level alignment of about 40 metal oxide/organic molecule interfaces. They observed a striking regularity in the electronic level alignment of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the Fermi level that depends solely on the difference between the substrate work function and the ionization energy of the molecule independent of the details of the electronic structure of the oxide. The authors could reproduce their data under the assumption of thermodynamic equilibrium occupation of the HOMO using four adjustable parameters. A model that quantifies well‐established concepts in heterojunction physics and achieves the same result without any adjustable parameters is presented here. This approach explains why the level alignment is rather independent of the experimental details, such as the electronic structure of the oxide, defects in the oxide, and the thickness of oxide and overlayer. The model can also be extended to organic molecules or polymers on metals without any intermediate oxide as long as certain conditions are met. It also sheds new light on the large polaronic binding energy required to interpret the electronic level alignment of metal‐polymer interfaces.  相似文献

Strong intermolecular interactions usually facilitate charge transport, but impede photoluminescence, therefore, the development of organic π-conjugated materials that exhibit both semiconducting and light-emissive properties remains challenging. Herein, a series of perylene diimide (PDI)-based carbolong complexes with dπ-pπ conjugation is synthesized. The resulting alcohol-soluble products exhibit broad and strong absorption combined with outstanding electronic and optical properties, and are applied as electron transport layer materials in organic solar cells, achieving power conversion efficiencies up to 17.36%. In addition, these complexes exhibit an uncommon aggregation-induced emission phenomenon. These results will aid in future design of π-conjugated materials with increased functionality.  相似文献

The discovery of nanodipolar π‐conjugated oligomer‐containing polymers as high performance nanodielectric materials with high permittivity and low dielectric loss over a wide range of frequency (100 Hz–4 MHz) is reported. Terthiophene‐containing methacrylate polymers are synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Both X‐ray and thermal studies indicate the formation of small crystalline domains of terthiophene side chains dispersed in amorphous matrix. The highly polarizable and fast‐responsive nanodipoles from the nanoscale crystalline domains (<2 nm) are believed to dictate the performance. These polymers uniquely satisfy nanodipole architectures conjectured two decades ago to guide the design of high performance nanodielectric materials. This unprecedented approach can be generalized to a variety of π‐conjugated oligomer‐containing polymers for the development of high energy density capacitor materials.  相似文献

This paper describes a structure–property study using two dithieno[3,2‐b;2′,3′‐d]phosphole building blocks for the generation of white light emission and the incorporation of these units in a single polystyrene material. The emission of one of the light‐emitting organophosphorus building blocks can efficiently be switched from orange to green by simple protonation of the amino functional groups that are part of the π‐conjugated scaffold. The resulting three components (blue, green, and orange) exhibit photophysical properties that allow for an efficient fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in the mixture/polymer and provide intense white fluorescence upon excitation of the blue component; the fluorescence is close to pure white in solution and similar to the emission of an incandescent light bulb in the thin film. The results nicely illustrate the intriguing features that can be obtained by exclusively using organophosphorus‐based organic electronic materials.  相似文献

The fabrication of functional multilayered conjugated‐polymer structures with well‐defined organic‐organic interfaces for optoelectronic‐device applications is constrained by the common solubility of many polymers in most organic solvents. Here, we report a simple, low‐cost, large‐area transfer‐printing technique for the deposition and patterning of conjugated‐polymer thin films. This method utilises a planar poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) stamp, along with a water‐soluble sacrificial layer, to pick up an organic thin film (~20 nm to 1 µm) from a substrate and subsequently deliver this film to a target substrate. We demonstrate the versatility of this transfer‐printing technique and its applicability to optoelectronic devices by fabricating bilayer structures of poly(9,9‐di‐n‐octylfluorene‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylene‐((4‐sec‐butylphenyl)imino)‐1,4‐phenylene))/poly(9,9‐di‐n‐octylfluorene‐alt‐benzothiadiazole) (TFB/F8BT) and poly(3‐hexylthiophene)/methanofullerene([6,6]‐phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester) (P3HT/PCBM), and incorporating them into light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) and photovoltaic (PV) cells, respectively. For both types of device, bilayer devices fabricated with this transfer‐printing technique show equal, if not superior, performance to either blend devices or bilayer devices fabricated by other techniques. This indicates well‐controlled organic‐organic interfaces achieved by the transfer‐printing technique. Furthermore, this transfer‐printing technique allows us to study the nature of the excited states and the transport of charge carriers across well‐defined organic interfaces, which are of great importance to organic electronics.  相似文献

In this study, a newly developed nanoscale modulus mapping is applied in order to visualize the 2D‐distribution of mechanical characteristics in the aragonitic nacre layer of Perna canaliculus (green mussel) shells. Modulus maps provide lateral resolution of about 10 nm. They allow the aragonitic mineral (CaCO3) tablets and the interfaces between them to be clearly resolved, which are filled by an organic substance (mainly beta‐chitin). The experimental data are compared with finite element simulations that also take into account the tip radius of curvature and the thickness of organic layers, as measured by means of scanning electron microscopy with back‐scattered electrons. Based on this comparison, the Young modulus of beta‐chitin is extracted. The obtained number, Eβ = 40 GPa, is higher than previously evaluated. The collected maps reveal that the elastic modules in the nacre layer change gradually across the ceramic/organic interfaces within a spatial range four times wider than the thickness of the organic layers. This is possibly due to inhomogeneous distribution of organic macromolecules within ceramic tablets. According to the data, the concentration of macromolecules gradually increases when approaching the organic/ceramic interfaces. A behavior of this type is unique to biogenic materials and distinguishes them from synthetic composite materials. Finally, three possible mechanisms that attempt to explain why gradual changes of elastic modules significantly enhance the overall resistance to fracture of the nacre layer are briefly discussed. The experimental findings support the idea that individual ceramic tablets, comprising the nacre, are built of the compositionally and functionally graded ceramic material. This sheds additional light on the origin of the superior mechanical properties of biogenic composites.  相似文献

A range of optical probes are used to study the nanoscale‐structure and electronic‐functionality of a photovoltaic‐applicable blend of the carbazole co‐polymer poly[N‐9′‐heptadecanyl‐2,7‐carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole) (PCDTBT) and the electronic accepting fullerene derivative (6,6)‐phenyl C70‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM). In particular, it is shown that the glass transition temperature of a PCDTBT:PC70BM blend thin‐film is not sensitive to the relative blend‐ratio or film thickness (at 1:4 blending ratio), but is sensitive to casting solvent and the type of substrate on which it is deposited. It is found that the glass transition temperature of the blend reduces on annealing; an observation consistent with disruption of ππ stacking between PCDTBT molecules. Reduced ππ stacking is correlated with reduced hole‐mobility in thermally annealed films. It is suggested that this explains the failure of such annealing protocols to substantially improve device‐efficiency. The annealing studies demonstrate that the blend only undergoes coarse phase‐separation when annealed at or above 155 °C, suggesting a promising degree of morphological stability of PCDTBT:PC70BM blends.  相似文献

Semiconducting donor–acceptor (D–A) polymers have attracted considerable attention toward the application of organic electronic and optoelectronic devices. However, a rational design rule for making semiconducting polymers with desired thermal and mechanical properties is currently lacking, which greatly limits the development of new polymers for advanced applications. Here, polydiketopyrrolopyrrole (PDPP)‐based D–A polymers with varied alkyl side‐chain lengths and backbone moieties are systematically designed, followed by investigating their thermal and thin film mechanical responses. The experimental results show a reduction in both elastic modulus and glass transition temperature (Tg) with increasing side‐chain length, which is further verified through coarse‐grained molecular dynamics simulations. Informed from experimental results, a mass‐per‐flexible bond model is developed to capture such observation through a linear correlation between Tg and polymer chain flexibility. Using this model, a wide range of backbone Tg over 80 °C and elastic modulus over 400 MPa can be predicted for PDPP‐based polymers. This study highlights the important role of side‐chain structure in influencing the thermomechanical performance of conjugated polymers, and provides an effective strategy to design and predict Tg and elastic modulus of future new D–A polymers.  相似文献

The thermoelectric (TE) phenomena are intensively explored by the scientific community due to the rather inefficient way energy resources are used with a large fraction of energy wasted in the form of heat. Among various materials, mixed ion‐electron conductors (MIEC) are recently being explored as potential thermoelectrics, primarily due to their low thermal conductivity. The combination of electronic and ionic charge carriers in those inorganic or organic materials leads to complex evolution of the thermovoltage (Voc) with time, temperature, and/or humidity. One of the most promising organic thermoelectric materials, poly(3,4‐ethyelenedioxythiophene)‐polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT‐PSS), is an MIEC. A previous study reveals that at high humidity, PEDOT‐PSS undergoes an ionic Seebeck effect due to mobile protons. Yet, this phenomenon is not well understood. In this work, the time dependence of the Voc is studied and its behavior from the contribution of both charge carriers (holes and protons) is explained. The presence of a complex reorganization of the charge carriers promoting an internal electrochemical reaction within the polymer film is identified. Interestingly, it is demonstrated that the time dependence behavior of Voc is a way to distinguish between three classes of polymeric materials: electronic conductor, ionic conductor, and mixed ionic–electronic conductor.  相似文献

One‐dimensional (1D) porous materials have shown great potential for gas storage and separation, sensing, energy storage, and conversion. However, the controlled approach for preparation of 1D porous materials, especially porous organic materials, still remains a great challenge due to the poor dispersibility and solution processability of the porous materials. Here, carbon nanotube (CNT) templated 1D conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) are prepared using a layer‐by‐layer method. As‐prepared CMPs possess high specific surface areas of up to 623 m2 g?1 and exhibit strong electronic interactions between p‐type CMPs and n‐type CNTs. The CMPs are used as precursors to produce heteroatom‐doped 1D porous carbons through direct pyrolysis. As‐produced ternary heteroatom‐doped (B/N/S) 1D porous carbons possess high specific surface areas of up to 750 m2 g?1, hierarchical porous structures, and excellent electrochemical‐catalytic performance for oxygen reduction reaction. Both of the diffusion‐limited current density (4.4 mA cm?2) and electron transfer number (n = 3.8) for three‐layered 1D porous carbons are superior to those for random 1D porous carbon. These results demonstrate that layered and core–shell type 1D CMPs and related heteroatom‐doped 1D porous carbons can be rationally designed and controlled prepared for high performance energy‐related applications.  相似文献

The question of designing high electron mobility polymers by increasing the planarization using diffusive nonbonding heteroatom interactions in diketopyrrolopyrrole polymers is addressed in this. For this, three different diketopyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole (DPP) derivatives with thienyl‐, 2‐pyridinyl‐, and phenyl‐flanked cores are copolymerized with an electron‐rich thiophene unit as well as an electron‐deficient 3,4‐difluorothiophene unit as comonomer to obtain diverse polymeric DPPs which vary systematically in their structures. The crystallinity differs significantly with clear trends on varying both flanking unit and comonomer. The optical gap and energy levels depend more on the nature of the flanking aryl units rather than on fluorination. Additionally, the charge transport properties are compared using different methods to differentiate between interface or orientation effects and bulk charge carrier transport. In organic field effect transistor devices with very high electron as well as hole mobilities (up to 0.6 cm2 V?1 s?1) are obtained and fluorination leads to a more pronounced n‐type nature in all polymers, resulting in ambipolar behavior in otherwise p‐type materials. In contrast, space‐charge limited current measurements show a strong influence of the flanking units only on electron mobilities. Especially, the elegant synthetic strategy of combining pyridyl flanking units with difluorothiophene as the comonomer culminates in a record bulk electron mobility of 4.3 × 10?3 cm2 V?1 s?1 in polymers.  相似文献

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF)‐type compounds have great potential as emitter molecules in organic light‐emitting diodes, allowing for electrofluorescence with 100% internal quantum efficiency. In small molecules, TADF is achieved through the formation of intramolecular charge‐transfer states. The only design limitation is the requirement that donor and acceptor entities spatially decouple the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, respectively, to minimize exchange splitting. The development of polymeric TADF emitters, on the contrary, has seen comparably small progress and those are typically built up from monomeric units that show promising TADF properties in small molecule studies beforehand. By contrast, herein, a way to achieve TADF properties in cyclic oligomers and polymers composed of non‐TADF building blocks is shown. Due to a strongly decreased energy splitting of the polymer with respect to the individual repeating unit between the lowest singlet and triplet excited state (ΔEST) and a sufficiently high radiative decay rate kSr, a highly efficient TADF polymer with up to 71% photoluminescence quantum yield is obtained. For the first time, an encouraging method is provided for producing highly efficient TADF oligomers and polymers from solely non‐TADF units via induced conjugation, opening a new design strategy exclusive for polymers.  相似文献

Molecular organization behavior and visible light absorption ability are important factors for organic materials to be used in efficient bulk heterojunction solar cells applications. In this context, a series of monosubstituted fluorenyl hexa‐peri‐hexabenzocoronene (FHBC) are synthesized with the aim to combine the self‐association property of the FHBC unit with broadened light absorption of a small molecule organic dye, bisthienylbenzothiadiazole (TBT). Optical and electrochemical properties of the FHBC compounds vary according to their structures. Introduction of a TBT unit into the FHBC system broadens the absorption. All of the FHBC compounds show strong ππ intermolecular association in solution. X‐ray scattering measurements on thermally extruded filaments and thin films showed ordered alignment of these compounds in the solid state. In atomic force microscopy experiments, nanoscale phase separation is observed in thin films of FHBC and fullerene derivative blends. Solar cell devices with these compounds as donors are fabricated. FHBC compounds with the TBT unit show higher short circuit current while the high open circuit voltages are maintained. With C60 derivative as acceptor, power conversion efficiency of 1.12% is achieved in the unoptimized solar cell devices under simulated solar irradiation. The efficiency was further improved to 1.64% when C70 derivative was used as the acceptor.  相似文献

Bioelectronics in synaptic transistors for future biomedical applications, such as implanted treatments and human–machine interfaces, must be flexible with good mechanical compatibility with biological tissues. The rigid nature and high deposition temperature in conventional inorganic synaptic transistors restrict the development of flexible, conformal synaptic devices. Here, the dinaphtho[2,3‐b:2′,3′‐f]thieno[3,2‐b]‐thiophene organic synaptic transistor on elastic polydimethylsiloxane is demonstrated to avoid these limitations. The unique advantages of organic materials in low Young's modulus and low temperature process enable seamless adherence of organic synaptic transistors on arbitrary‐shaped objects. On 3D curved surfaces, the essential synaptic functions, such as potentiation/depression, short/long‐term synaptic plasticity, and spike voltage–dependent plasticity, are successfully realized. The time‐dependent surface potential characterization reveals the slow polarization of dipoles in the dielectric is responsible for hysteresis and synaptic behaviors. This work represents that organic materials offer a potential platform to realize the flexible, conformal synaptic transistors for the development of wearable and implantable artificial neuromorphic systems.  相似文献

Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are a realistic option for converting light to electrical energy. Hybrid architectures offer a vast materials library for device optimization, including a variety of metal oxides, organic and inorganic sensitizers, molecular, polymeric and electrolytic hole‐transporter materials. In order to further improve the efficiency of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells, recent attention has focused on using light absorbing polymers such as poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT), to replace the more commonly used “transparent” 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenyl‐amine)9,9′spiro‐bifluorene (spiro‐OMeTAD), in order to enhance the light absorption within thin films. As is the case with spiro‐OMeTAD based solid‐state DSSC, the P3HT‐based devices improve significantly with the addition of lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide salts (Li‐TFSI), although the precise role of these additives has not yet been clarified in solid‐state DSCs. Here, we present a thorough study on the effect of Li‐TFSI in P3HT based solid‐state DSSC incorporating an indolene‐based organic sensitizer termed D102. Employing ultrafast transient absorption and cw‐emission spectroscopy together with electronic measurements, we demonstrate a fine tuning of the energetic landscape of the active cell components by the local Coulomb field induced by the ions. This increases the charge transfer nature of the excited state on the dye, significantly accelerating electron injection into the TiO2. We demonstrate that this ionic influence on the excited state energy is the primary reason for enhanced charge generation with the addition of ionic additives. The deepening of the relative position of the TiO2 conduction band, which has previously been thought to be the cause for enhanced charge generation in dye sensitized solar cells with the addition of lithium salts, appears to be of minor importance in this system.  相似文献

Hybrid dye‐sensitized solar cells are typically composed of mesoporous titania (TiO2), light‐harvesting dyes, and organic molecular hole‐transporters. Correctly matching the electronic properties of the materials is critical to ensure efficient device operation. In this study, TiO2 is synthesized in a well‐defined morphological confinement that arises from the self‐assembly of a diblock copolymer—poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (PI‐b‐PEO). The crystallization environment, tuned by the inorganic (TiO2 mass) to organic (polymer) ratio, is shown to be a decisive factor in determining the distribution of sub‐bandgap electronic states and the associated electronic function in solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells. Interestingly, the tuning of the sub‐bandgap states does not appear to strongly influence the charge transport and recombination in the devices. However, increasing the depth and breadth of the density of sub‐bandgap states correlates well with an increase in photocurrent generation, suggesting that a high density of these sub‐bandgap states is critical for efficient photo‐induced electron transfer and charge separation.  相似文献

The ability to detail how molecules pack in the bulk and at the various materials interfaces in the active layer of an organic solar cell is important to further understanding overall device performance. Here, [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), a preferred electron‐acceptor material in organic solar cells, is studied through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations; the goal is to examine the effects of temperature and trace solvents on the packing and morphological features of bulk PCBM. Solubility (miscibility) parameters, melting and order‐disorder transitions, surface energies, and orientational distributions as a function of different starting configurations are discussed. On the basis of the derived morphologies, electronic structure calculations and a kinetic Monte Carlo approach are combined to evaluate the parameters impacting electron mobility in crystalline and amorphous PCBM structures.  相似文献

This article focuses on an innovative one‐pot fabrication of organic/inorganic hybrid parallepipedic tubes with rectangular cavities displaying multicolor luminescence. Firstly, using a novel back‐to‐back coupled 2,6‐di‐pyrazol‐1‐ylpyridine ligand, blue‐emitting several‐micrometer‐long (ca. 50 μm) parallepipedic organic nanotubes with rectangular cavities were fabricated in THF/water via supramolecular (H‐bonding and ππ stacking) and solvent‐assisted self‐assembly. Secondly, in the same pot, the ligand molecules available on the surface of the ligand nanotubes were reacted with Eu(tta)3 molecules at the solid/liquid interface to form a layer of red‐emitting Eu(III) complex coating on the inner and outer surface of the tubes. The resultant organic/inorganic hybrid parallepipedic nanotubes fabricated using this novel bottom‐up one‐pot technique display tricolor (blue–red–purple) luminescence, i.e., blue and red dual emission from the organic ligand and the Eu(III) complex, respectively, and a purple color due to the mixing of the two colors. This simple technique signifies an innovative and important method in the development of bottom‐up nanotechnology of multiluminescent organic/inorganic hybrid nanotubes.  相似文献
