The development of active corrosion protection systems for metallic substrates is an issue of prime importance for many industrial applications. The present work shows a new contribution to the design of a new protective system based on surface modified mesoporous silica containers. Incorporation of silica‐based containers into special sol–gel matrix allows for a self‐healing effect to be achieved during the corrosion process. The self‐healing ability occurs due to release of entrapped corrosion inhibitors in response to pH changes caused by the corrosion process. A silica–zirconia‐based hybrid film is used in this work as a coating matrix deposited on AA2024 aluminum alloy. Mesoporous silica nano‐particles are covered layer‐by‐layer with polyelectrolyte layers and loaded with inhibitor [2‐(benzothiazol‐2‐ylsulfanyl)‐succinic acid]. The hybrid film with nanocontainers reveals enhanced long‐term corrosion protection in comparison with the individual sol–gel films. The scanning vibrating electrode technique also shows an effective healing ability of containers to cure the corrosion defects. This effect is due to the release of the corrosion inhibitor triggered by the corrosion processes started in the cavities. The approach described herein can be used in many applications where active corrosion protection of materials is required.  相似文献

Halloysite particles are aluminum‐silicate hollow cylinders with a length of 0.5–1 µm, an outer diameter of ca. 50 nm and a lumen of 15 nm. These nanotubes are used for loading and sustained release of corrosion inhibitors. The inhibitor is kept inside the particles infinitely long under dry conditions. Here, halloysite nanotubes filled with anticorrosive agents are embedded into a SiOx–ZrOx hybrid film. An aluminum plate is dip‐coated and immersed into 0.1 M sodium chloride aqueous solution for corrosion tests. A defect in the sol–gel coating induces pitting corrosion on the metal accompanied by a strong anodic activity. The inhibitor is released within one hour from halloysite nanotubes at corrosion spots and suppresses the corrosion process. The anodic activity is successfully restrained and the protection remains for a long time period of immersion in NaCl water solution. The self‐healing effect of the sol–gel coating doped with inhibitor‐loaded halloysite nanotubes is demonstrated in situ via scanning vibrating electrode technique measurements.  相似文献

The release properties and reloading ability of polyelectrolyte‐modified halloysite nanotubes, polyelectrolyte‐modified SiO2 nanoparticles, and polyelectrolyte capsules are studied. Three containers are distinguished by keeping the low‐molecular‐weight corrosion inhibitor benzotriazole in a hollow lumen inside or within the polyelectrolyte matrix and allowing release in either one direction or into all space dimensions. Polyelectrolyte shells, which modify the outer surface of the nanocontainers, are fabricated by using layer‐by‐layer assembly of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)/poly(styrene sulfonate), poly(allylamine hydrochloride)/poly(styrene sulfonate), and poly(allylamine hydrochloride)/poly(methacrylic acid) polyelectrolyte bilayers. All nanocontainers reveal an increase of the benzotriazole release in aqueous solution at alkaline or acidic pH. The highest reloading efficiency (up to 80 %) is observed for halloysite‐based nanocontainers; however, after five reloading cycles the efficiency decreases to 20 %. The application of appropriate nanocontainers depends on the demands required from feedback‐active anticorrosion coatings. For coatings where the immediate release of the inhibitor is necessary, SiO2‐based or halloysite‐based nanocontainers with a shell consisting of weak polyelectrolytes are preferable. When continuous, gradual release is required, halloysite‐based nanocontainers with a shell consisting of one weak and one or two strong polyelectrolytes are preferable.  相似文献

The formation of weak polyelectrolyte films on planar and spherical supports has recently evoked major interest, as such coatings allow novel material properties to be tunable by pH and salt adjustment of the polyelectrolyte deposition conditions. We report on the build up of multilayers of the weak polyelectrolytes poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) on submicrometer‐sized polystyrene (PS) and silica colloid spheres (~ 500 nm) with the aid of copper ion templating. The copper ions complex to the carboxylate groups of PAA, facilitating the formation of PAA/PAH multilayers on the particles. Regular growth of the layers on the colloid spheres with each polyelectrolyte deposition step was confirmed by microelectrophoresis, single‐particle light scattering (SPLS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), with an average bilayer thickness of ~ 3 nm. The polyelectrolyte multilayer‐coated particles formed stable colloidal dispersions, with ζ‐potentials ranging from 30 mV (PAH outer layer) and –50 mV (PAA outer layer). Complementary quartz‐crystal microbalance and UV‐vis spectrophotometry studies on PAA/PAH multilayers formed on planar supports were performed to examine the film formation and the role of copper ion binding to the layers. PAA/PAH multilayers formed on colloid particles were also chemically crosslinked by using the activator 1‐ethyl‐3‐(3‐dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC). The degree of film crosslinking could be readily controlled by varying the concentration of EDC employed. Following solvent decomposition of the template particles coated with crosslinked PAA/PAH multilayers, intact hollow polymer capsules were obtained. These capsules were found to be impenetrable to polystyrene.  相似文献

A new atomic layer deposition (ALD) process for nanocrystalline tin dioxide films is developed and applied for the coating of nanostructured materials. This approach, which is adapted from non‐hydrolytic sol‐gel chemistry, permits the deposition of SnO2 at temperatures as low as 75 °C. It allows the coating of the inner and outer surface of multiwalled carbon nanotubes with a highly conformal film of controllable thickness. The ALD‐coated tubes are investigated as active components in gas‐sensor devices. Due to the formation of a p‐n heterojunction between the highly conductive support and the SnO2 thin film an enhancement of the gas sensing response is observed.  相似文献

A bilayer of a hydrophobically modified polyelectrolyte, octadecyl poly(acrylamide) (PAAm), sandwiched between the layers of a hydrophilic polyelectrolyte, poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI), is prepared by the sequential electrostatic–hydrophobic–electrostatic‐interaction‐driven self‐assembly on planar and colloid substrates. This process results in a PEI/[PAAm]2/PEI‐multilayer‐coated substrate. The removal of a PAA/PEI/[PAAm]2/PEI‐multilayer‐coated decomposable colloidal template produces hollow capsules. Irregular hydrophobic domains of the [PAAm]2 bilayer in the PEI/[PAAm]2/PEI‐multilayer capsule are infiltrated with a lipid to obtain a uniform, distinct hydrophobic layer, imparting the capsule with a pseudobilayer vesicle structure.  相似文献

The addition of biocides to water systems has been the most direct attempt to limit or mitigate the formation of surface biofilms that lead to the development of microbial‐induced corrosion (MIC), a process that costs industry millions of pounds annually. The efficacy of this approach is dependent upon a) the biocide being delivered to all water–metal substrate interaction sites and b) the biocide remaining active, therein preventing biofilm development/growth. Anti‐fouling biocide additions to water supplies, or anti‐fungal additives in paints, have an adverse impact upon the environment, for example, tri‐butyl tin is toxic to aquatic life. An alternative non‐toxic approach currently being pursued by the authors involves localizing a biologically active reagent close to the metal substrate. Localization in this case is achieved by synthesizing a hybrid functional sol–gel coating and encapsulating a suitable non‐pathogenic biological component within the sol–gel matrix. Distribution within the sol–gel coating of vegetative bacteria or spores has been confirmed using various microscopy techniques. Electrochemical data in the form of polarization resistance, impedance spectroscopy, and electrochemical noise all show that the presence of either P. fragi or P. polymyxa within a sol–gel coating leads to a corrosion resistance improvement at least 10 times that of an equivalent abiotic coating. Confirmation of this improvement is derived from six months of field trial testing conducted in a tidal estuarine environment. Comparative tests that use a control sol–gel coating immersed within nutrient poor artificial seawater that contained freely suspended P. polymyxa reveal no marked improvement over a control sample in the absence of the endospores.  相似文献

Layer‐by‐layer (LbL) self‐assemblies have inherent potential as dynamic coatings because of the sensitivity of their building blocks to external stimuli. Here, humidity serves as a feasible trigger to activate the self‐healing of a microporous polyethylenimine/poly(acrylic acid) multilayer film. Microporous structures within the polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) film are created by acid treatment, followed by freeze‐drying to remove water. The self‐healing of these micropores can be triggered at 100% relative humidity, under which condition the mobility of the polyelectrolytes is activated. Based on this, a facile and versatile method is suggested for directly integrating hydrophobic drugs into PEM films for surface‐mediated drug delivery. The high porosity of microporous film enables the highest loading (≈303.5 μg cm?2 for a 15‐bilayered film) of triclosan to be a one‐shot process via wicking action and subsequent solvent removal, thus dramatically streamlining the processes and reducing complexities compared to the existing LbL strategies. The self‐healing of a drug‐loaded microporous PEM film significantly reduces the diffusion coefficient of triclosan, which is favorable for the long‐term sustained release of the drug. The dynamic properties of this polymeric coating provide great potential for its use as a delivery platform for hydrophobic drugs in a wide variety of biomedical applications.  相似文献

The charge separation efficiency of water oxidation photoanodes is modulated by depositing polyelectrolyte multilayers on their surface using layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly. The deposition of the polyelectrolyte multilayers of cationic poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and anionic poly(styrene sulfonate) induces the formation of interfacial dipole layers on the surface of Fe2O3 and TiO2 photoanodes. The charge separation efficiency is modulated by tuning their magnitude and direction, which in turn can be achieved by controlling the number of bilayers and type of terminal polyelectrolytes, respectively. Specifically, the multilayers terminated with anionic poly(styrene sulfonate) exhibit a higher charge separation efficiency than those with cationic counterparts. Furthermore, the deposition of water oxidation molecular catalysts on top of interfacial dipole layers enables more efficient photoelectrochemical water oxidation. The approach exploiting the polyelectrolyte multilayers for improving the charge separation efficiency is effective regardless of pH and types of photoelectrodes. Considering the versatility of the LbL assembly, it is anticipated that this study will provide insights for the design and fabrication of efficient photoelectrodes.  相似文献

This work describes for the first time the synthesis of hybrid drug‐loaded TiO2/polymer amphiphilic nanoparticles of finely controlled size utilizing a simple and reproducible sol–gel process that comprises the formation of a titanium(IV)/acetone oxo‐organo complex followed by its blending with an amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(propylene oxide) block copolymer in acetone and its aqueous‐phase nanoprecipitation. The size of the hybrid nanoparticles is governed by the complex aging, e.g., hybrid nanoparticles display diameter between 228 and 53 nm for aging of 1 and 36 days, respectively (dynamic light scattering). In addition, they show excellent physical stability in water owing to the coating of the surface with poly(ethylene oxide) blocks of the copolymer. Conversely, polymer‐free TiO2 particles are large and precipitate fast. Incorporation of a model hydrophobic drug, nitazoxanide, to the precursor solution results in hybrid nanoparticles containing 12.9% w/w cargo that is released following a bimodal profile. High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (Titan Cubed Themis G2 300) analysis reveals the porous amorphous nanostructure of these novel hybrids and colocalization of drug and copolymer in the nanoparticle bulk. Finally, upon ultrasonication, our hybrid nanoparticles produce reactive oxygen species in vitro which paves the way for their use in sonodynamic and drug release therapies.  相似文献

A double‐layer double‐wavelength antireflective (AR) coating with 100% transmittance at both 1064 nm and 532 nm, which is very important in high power laser systems, is designed using thin film design software (TFCalc). The refractive indices for the bottom and top layers of the designed AR coating are about 1.30 and 1.14. A simple, template‐free sol‐gel route is proposed to prepare the superhydrophobic ORMOSIL (organically modified silicate) thin film, which has an ultralow refractive index, by silica particle surface modification using hexamethylisilazane (HMDS); this treatment decreases the refractive index of the silica thin film from 1.23 to 1.13. The formation mechanism of the ultralow refractive index thin film is proposed. The particle surface modification with HMDS significantly improves the hydrophobicity of the coated film; the water contact angle of the film increases from 23.4° to 160°. The bottom layer, which has a refractive index of 1.30, is prepared from acid‐catalyzed and base‐catalyzed mixed silica sol. A double‐layer silica AR coating is obtained with transmittances of 99.6% and 99.8% at 532 nm and 1064 nm, respectively.  相似文献

Organic bulk‐heterojunction solar cells using thin‐film single‐walled carbon‐nanotube (SWCNT) anodes deposited on glass are reported. Two types of SWCNT films are investigated: spin‐coated films from dichloroethane (DCE), and spray‐coated films from deionized water using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) or sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) as the surfactant. All of the films are found to be mechanically robust, with no tendency to delaminate from the underlying substrate during handling. Acid treatment with HNO3 yields high conductivities >1000 S cm?1 for all of the films, with values of up to 7694 ± 800 S cm?1 being obtained when using SDS as the surfactant. Sheet resistances of around 100 Ω sq?1 are obtained at reasonable transmission, for example, 128 ± 2 Ω sq?1 at 90% for DCE, 57 ± 3 Ω sq?1 at 65% for H2O:SDS, and 68 ± 5 Ω sq?1 at 70% for H2O:SDBS. Solar cells are fabricated by successively coating the SWCNT films with poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulphonate) (PEDOT:PSS), a blend of regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and 1‐(3‐methoxy‐carbonyl)‐propyl‐1‐phenyl‐(6,6)C61 (PCBM), and LiF/Al. The resultant devices have respective power conversions of 2.3, 2.2 and 1.2% for DCE, H2O:SDS and H2O:SDBS, with the first two being at a virtual parity with reference devices using ITO‐coated glass as the anode (2.3%).  相似文献

In this paper, a process for generating collagen‐yttria‐stabilized amorphous zirconia hybrid scaffolds by introducing acetylacetone‐inhibited zirconia precursor nanodroplets into a poly(allylamine)‐coated collagen matrix is reported. This polyelectrolyte coating triggers intrafibrillar condensation of the precursors into amorphous zirconia, which is subsequently transformed into yttria‐stabilized zirconia after calcination. These findings represent a new paradigm in the synthesis of non‐naturally occurring collagen‐based hybrid scaffolds under alcoholic mineralizing conditions.  相似文献

Scanning nanofocus X‐ray diffraction (nXRD) performed at a synchrotron is used to simultaneously probe the morphology and the structural properties of spin‐coated CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPI) perovskite films for photovoltaic devices. MAPI films are spin‐coated on a Si/SiO2/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) substrate held at different temperatures during the deposition in order to tune the perovskite film coverage. The films are then investigated using nXRD and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The advantages of nXRD over SEM and other techniques are discussed. A method to visualize, selectively isolate, and structurally characterize single perovskite grains buried within a complex, polycrystalline film is developed. The results of nXRD measurements are correlated with solar cell device measurements, and it is shown that spin‐coating the perovskite precursor solution at elevated temperatures leads to improved surface coverage and enhanced solar cell performance.  相似文献

This article demonstrates the tuning of the biological activity of a surface functionalized by a polyelectrolyte multilayer. The interaction of protein A with macrophages is used as the model system. The film consists of two polypeptides, poly(lysine) and poly(glutamic acid); each “build‐up” solution is a mixture of the respective D ‐ and L ‐enantiomers (d and l enantiomers). Cells are deposited on top of the film, and they produce tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF‐α) as they come into contact with the protein. Depending upon the d/l‐enantiomer ratio of the polyelectrolyte solutions used for the film build‐up, and the embedding depth of the protein, the production of TNF‐α commences after a varying induction time and displays a transition from no‐production to full‐production, which takes place over a period of time that depends on the film's composition and embedding depth. Thus, it is shown that by changing these two parameters the timing of the protein's activity can be accurately tuned.  相似文献

Stretchable electronic devices should be enabled by the smart design of materials and architectures because their commercialization is limited by the tradeoff between stretchability and electrical performance limits. In this study, thin‐film transistors are fabricated using strategies that combine the unit process of a novel hybrid gate insulator and low‐temperature indium gallium tin oxide (IGTO) channel layer and a stress‐relief substrate structure. Novel hybrid dielectric films are synthesized and their molecular structural configurations are analyzed. These films consist of a polymer [poly(4‐vinylphenol‐co‐methylmethacrylate)], cross‐linkers having different binding structures [1,6‐bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane (BTMSH), dodecyltrimethoxysilane, and poly(melamine‐co‐formaldehyde)], and an inorganic zirconia component (ZrOx). The hybrid film with BTMSH cross‐linker and 0.2 M ZrOx exhibits excellent insulating properties as well as mechanical stretchability. IGTO transistors fabricated on polyimide‐coated glass substrates are transferred to the rubber substrate to offer stretchability of the transistor pixelated thin‐film transistors. IGTO transistors fabricated on stretchable substrates using these strategies show promising electrical performance and mechanical durability. After 200 stretchability test cycles under uniaxial elongation of approximately 300%, the IGTO transistor still retains a high carrier mobility of 21.7 cm2 V?1 s?1, a low sub‐threshold gate swing of 0.68 V decade?1 and a high ION/OFF ratio of 2.0 × 107.  相似文献

Porous, highly crystalline Nasicon‐type phase LiTi2(PO4)3 has been prepared by a novel poly(vinyl alcohol)‐assisted sol–gel route and coated by a uniform and continuous nanometers‐thick carbon thin film using chemical vapor deposition technology. The as‐prepared LiTi2(PO4)3 exhibits excellent electrochemical performance both in organic and aqueous electrolytes, and especially shows good cycling stability in aqueous electrolytes. An aqueous lithium‐ion battery consisting of a combination of LiMn2O4 cathode, LiTi2(PO4)3 anode, and a 1 M Li2SO4 electrolyte has been constructed. The cell delivers a capacity of 40 mA h g–1 and a specific energy of 60 W h kg–1 with an output voltage of 1.5 V based on the total weight of the active electrode materials. It also exhibits an excellent cycling stability with a capacity retention of 82 % over 200 charge/discharge cycles, which is much better than any aqueous lithium‐ion battery reported.  相似文献

The synthesis of double‐hydrophilic core/shell cylindrical polymer brushes (CPBs), their hybrids with magnetite nanoparticles, and the directed alignment of these magnetic hybrid cylinders by a magnetic field are demonstrated. Consecutive grafting from a polyinitiator poly(2‐(2‐bromoisobutyryloxy)ethyl methacrylate) (PBIEM) of tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBMA) and oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (OEGMA) using atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and further de‐protection yields core/shell CPBs with poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) as the core and POEGMA as the shell, which is evidenced by 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS). The resulting core/shell brush is well soluble in water and shows a pH responsiveness because of its weak polyelectrolyte core. Pearl‐necklace structures are observed by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo‐TEM) at pH 4, while at pH 7, these structures disappear owing to the ionization of the core. A similar morphology is also found for the polychelate of the core/shell CPBs with Fe3+ ions. Superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles have also been prepared and introduced into the core of the brushes. The hybrid material retains the superparamagnetic property of the magnetite nanoparticles, which is verified by superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetization measurements. Large‐scale alignment of the hybrid cylinders in relatively low magnetic fields (40–300 mT) can easily be performed when deposited on a surface. which is clearly revealed by the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and TEM measurements.  相似文献

The inside cover shows a hierarchical, mesoporous, multilayer TiO2 photocatalytic membrane synthesized via a novel sol–gel dip‐coating process employing surfactant templates reported by Dionysiou and co‐workers on p. 1067. The resulting asymmetric mesoporous TiO2 membrane supported onto a porous Al2O3 substrate exhibited hierarchical changes in pore diameter and materials porosity from the top to the bottom layer. The TiO2 membrane has multiple simultaneous functions, including photocatalysis, disinfection, separation, and anti‐biofouling. A novel sol–gel dip‐coating process to fabricate nanocrystalline TiO2 photocatalytic membranes with a robust hierarchical mesoporous multilayer and improved performance has been studied. Various titania sols containing poly(oxyethylenesorbitan monooleate) (Tween 80) surfactant as a pore‐directing agent to tailor‐design the porous structure of TiO2 materials at different molar ratios of Tween 80/isopropyl alcohol/acetic acid/titanium tetraisopropoxide = R:45:6:1 have been synthesized. The sols are dip‐coated on top of a homemade porous alumina substrate to fabricate TiO2/Al2O3 composite membranes, dried, and calcined, and this procedure is repeated with varying sols in succession. The resulting asymmetric mesoporous TiO2 membrane with a thickness of 0.9 μm exhibits a hierarchical change in pore diameter from 2–6, through 3–8, to 5–11 nm from the top to the bottom layer. Moreover, the corresponding porosity is incremented from 46.2, through 56.7, to 69.3 %. Compared to a repeated‐coating process using a single sol, the hierarchical multilayer process improves water permeability significantly without sacrificing the organic retention and photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 membranes. The prepared TiO2 photocatalytic membrane has great potential in developing highly efficient water treatment and reuse systems, for example, decomposition of organic pollutants, inactivation of pathogenic microorganisms, physical separation of contaminants, and self‐antifouling action because of its multifunctional capability.  相似文献

Hydrolysis of titanium(IV ) isopropoxide (TTIP) is a well‐known method for the fabrication of TiO2. Normally it is made via a sol–gel reaction in the presence of water. In this paper we report on the preparation of flat TiO2 films for conjugated polymer/TiO2 photovoltaic cells, from a TTIP/isopropanol solution. It is shown that the morphological structure of the TiO2 film is strongly dependent on the relative humidity during spin‐coating of the TTIP/isopropanol solution. In bilayer devices consisting of TiO2/poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (MDMO‐PPV), a low relative humidity (< 25 %, room temperature) is needed in order to form smooth, transparent TiO2 films. Increasing the relative humidity results in porous TiO2 films with a high surface roughness, which leads to shunted devices. Apart from bilayer devices, bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) hybrid TiO2:MDMO‐PPV photovoltaic cells have been made, by spin‐coating a mixture of TTIP and MDMO‐PPV in toluene. Again a strong relation was found between the relative humidity during spin‐coating and the current–voltage characteristics of the devices. However, in contrast to the bilayer devices, the best BHJ devices were made at higher relative humidity. The observed performance dependence on relative humidity is discussed in relation to the TiO2 morphology.  相似文献
