We report the synthesis of a well-defined linear tetrablock quaterpolymer of poly(butyl acrylate)-b-polystyrene-b-poly(methyl acrylate)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) by combining atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and a click coupling approach. For this purpose, polystyrene-b-poly(butyl acrylate) (AB) was prepared by ATRP using macroinitiator as α-trimethylsilyl(TMS)-alkyne ω-bromo polystyrene. The α-(TMS) end of the AB diblock copolymer was deprotected using tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) in THF. The ω-azide end of the CD diblock copolymer was made from poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(methyl acrylate) (CD) via transformation of the bromine chain end by a simple nucleophilic substitution reaction with NaN3 in DMF. Click coupling between the ω-azide end in CD diblock copolymer with the α-alkyne end in the AB diblock copolymer was then performed by Cu1-catalyzed (3+2) cycloaddition. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy confirmed the successful formation of a linear ABCD tetrablock copolymer via ATRP and click coupling.  相似文献

Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was employed to prepare graft copolymers having poly(MBr)‐alt‐poly(St) copolymer as backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as branches to obtain heat resistant graft copolymers. The macroinitiator was prepared by copolymerization of bromine functionalized maleimide (MBr) with styrene (St). The polymerization of MMA was initiated by poly(MBr)‐alt‐poly(St) carrying bromine groups as macroinitiator in the presence of copper bromide (CuBr) and bipyridine (bpy) at 110°C. Both macroinitiator and graft copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. The ATRP graft copolymerization was supported by an increase in the molecular weight (MW) of the graft copolymers as compared to that of the macroinitiator and also by their monomodal MW distribution. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The graft polymerization of methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate onto poly(vinyl chloride‐co‐vinyl acetate) with atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was successfully carried out with copper(I) thiocyanate/N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine and copper(I) chloride/2,2′‐bipyridine as catalysts in the solvent N,N‐dimethylformamide. For methyl methacrylate, a kinetic plot of ln([M]0/[M]) (where [M]0 is the initial monomer concentration and [M] is the monomer concentration) versus time for the graft polymerization was almost linear, and the molecular weight of the graft copolymer increased with increasing conversion, this being typical for ATRP. The formation of the graft polymer was confirmed with gel permeation chromatography, 1H‐NMR, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The glass‐transition temperature of the copolymer increased with the concentration of methyl methacrylate. The graft copolymer was hydrolyzed, and its swelling capacity was measured. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 96: 183–189, 2005  相似文献

Well-controlled anionic polymerization of an initiator-functionalized monomer, p-(2,2′-diphenylethyl)styrene (DPES), was achieved for the first time. The polymerization was performed in a mixed solvent of cyclohexane and tetrahydrofuran (THF) at 40 °C with n-BuLi as initiator. When the volume ratio of cyclohexane to THF was 20, the anionic polymerization of DPES showed living polymerization characteristics, and well-defined block copolymer PDPES-b-PS was successfully synthesized. Furthermore, radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of PDPES effectively afforded a graft copolymer composed of a polystyrene backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) branches. The designation of analogous monomers and polymers was of great significance to synthesize a variety of sophisticated copolymer and functionalize polymer materials.  相似文献

A novel well-defined amphiphilic graft copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) as main chain and poly(methyl acrylate) as graft chains is successfully prepared by combination of anionic copolymerization with atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The glycidol is protected by ethyl vinyl ether first, then obtained 2,3-epoxypropyl-1-ethoxyethyl ether (EPEE) is copolymerized with EO by initiation of mixture of diphenylmethyl potassium and triethylene glycol to give the well-defined poly(EO-co-EPEE), the latter is deprotected in the acidic conditions, then the recovered copolymer [(poly(EO-co-Gly)] with multi-pending hydroxyls is esterified with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce the ATRP macroinitiator with multi-pending activated bromides [poly(EO-co-Gly)(ATRP)] to initiate the polymerization of methyl acrylate (MA). The object products and intermediates are characterized by NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS, FT-IR, and SEC in detail. In solution polymerization, the molecular weight distribution of the graft copolymers is rather narrow (Mw/Mn < 1.2), and the linear dependence of Ln [M0]/[M] on time demonstrates that the MA polymerization is well controlled.  相似文献

The synthesis of novel copolymers consisting of a side‐group liquid‐crystalline backbone and poly (methyl methacrylate) grafts were realized by the use of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). In the first stage, the bromine‐functional copolymers 6‐(4‐cyanobiphenyl‐4′‐oxy)hexyl acrylate and (2,5‐dioxo‐2,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrole‐1‐yl)methyl 2‐bromopropanoate were synthesized by free‐radical polymerization. These copolymers were used as initiators in the ATRP of methyl methacrylate to yield graft copolymers. Both the macroinitiator and graft copolymers were characterized by 1H‐NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. The ATRP graft copolymerization was supported by an increase in the molecular weight of the graft copolymers compared to that of the macroinitiator and also by their monomodal molecular weight distribution. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate)‐poly(L ‐lactic acid)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) tri‐block copolymer was prepared using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The structure and properties of the copolymer were analyzed using infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR), thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The kinetic plot for the ATRP of methyl methacrylate using poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) as the initiator shows that the reaction time increases linearly with ln[M]0/[M]. The results indicate that it is possible to achieve grafted chains with well‐defined molecular weights, and block copolymers with narrowed molecular weight distributions. The thermal stability of PLLA is improved by copolymerization. A new wash‐extraction method for removing copper from the ATRP has also exhibits satisfactory results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A cellulose-based macro-initiator, cellulose 2-bromoisobutyrylate, for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was successfully synthesized by direct homogeneous acylation of cellulose in a room temperature ionic liquid, 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, without using any catalysts and protecting group chemistry. ATRP of methyl methacrylate and styrene from the macro-initiator was then carried out. The synthesized cellulose graft copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies. The grafted PMMA and PS chains were obtained by the hydrolysis of the cellulose backbone and analyzed by GPC. The results obtained from these analytical techniques confirm that the graft polymerization occurred from the cellulose backbone and the obtained copolymers had grafted polymer chains with well-controlled molecular weight and polydispersity. Through static and dynamic laser light scattering and TEM measurements, it was found that the cellulose graft copolymer in solution could aggregate and self-assembly into sphere-like polymeric structure.  相似文献

A new method is presented for grafting poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) (P(HEMA-co-MMA)) chains from the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, the ATRP initiators were immobilized onto the TiO2 surface by using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane coupling agent and 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. Then the copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate with methyl methacrylate was initiated and propagated on the TiO2 surface by ATRP. The resulting composite nanoparticles were characterized by means of XPS, FT-IR, 1H NMR, GPC and TGA. The results indicated that the grafting of copolymer chains from the TiO2 surface was successful. This method opens up new avenues for the preparation of TiO2-polymer nanocomposites.  相似文献

A series of well-defined amphiphilic graft copolymers consisting of hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) backbone and hydrophobic polystyrene side chains were synthesized by hydrolysis of poly(methyl acrylate)-g-polystyrene under basic condition. The backbone and the side chains were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), so the molecular weight could be tuned by the variation of the feed ratio or monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distributions of amphiphilic graft copolymers were kept low (PDI < 1.35). The products were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The study of self-assembly behavior can benefit the formation of the well-defined structures of the products.  相似文献

A new set of block copolymers containing poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) on one hand and poly(tert-butyl acrylate), poly(acrylic acid), poly(methyl acrylate) or polystyrene on the other hand, have been prepared by the use of a novel dual initiator 2-bromo-(3,3-diethoxy-propyl)-2-methylpropanoate. The dual initiator has been applied in a sequential process to prepare well-defined block copolymers of poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) and hydrolizable poly(tert-butyl acrylate) (PtBA), poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA) or polystyrene (PS) by living cationic polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), respectively. In a first step, the Br and acetal end groups of the dual initiator have been used to generate well-defined homopolymers by ATRP (resulting in polymers with remaining acetal function) and living cationic polymerization (PMVE with pendant Br end group), respectively. In a second step, those acetal functionalized polymers and PMVE-Br homopolymers have been used as macroinitiators for the preparation of PMVE-containing block copolymers. After hydrolysis of the tert-butyl groups in the PMVE-b-ptBA block copolymer, PMVE-b-poly(acrylic acid) (PMVE-b-PAA) is obtained. Chain extension of the AB diblock copolymers by ATRP gives rise to ABC triblock copolymers. The polymers have been characterized by MALDI-TOF, GPC and 1H NMR.  相似文献

Core-shell cylindrical polymer brushes with poly(t-butyl acrylate)-b-poly(n-butyl acrylate) (PtBA-b-PnBA) diblock copolymer side chains were synthesized via ‘grafting from’ technique using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The formation of well-defined brushes was confirmed by GPC and 1H NMR. Multi-angle light scattering (MALS) measurements on brushes with 240 arms show that the radius of gyration scales with the degree of polymerization of the side chains with an exponent of 0.57±0.05. The hydrolysis of the PtBA block of the side chains resulted amphiphilic cylindrical core-shell nanoparticles. In order to obtain a narrow length distribution of the brushes, the backbone, poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), was synthesized by anionic polymerization in addition to ATRP. The characteristic core-shell cylindrical structure of the brush was directly visualized on mica by scanning force microscopy (SFM). Brushes with 1500 block copolymer side chains and a length distribution of lw/ln=1.04 at a total length ln=179 nm were obtained. By choosing the proper solvent in the dip-coating process on mica, the core and the shell can be visualized independently by SFM.  相似文献

A combination of coordination polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was applied to a novel synthesis of rod–brush block copolymers. The procedure included the following steps: (1) the monoesterification reaction of ethylene glycol with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide (BIBB) yielded the bifunctional initiator monobromobutyryloxy ethylene glycol and (2) a trichlorocyclopentadienyl titanium (CpTiCl3; bifunctional initiator) catalyst was prepared from a mixture of CpTiCl3 and bifunctional initiator. The coordination polymerization of n-butyl isocyanate initiated by such a catalyst provided a well-defined macroinitiator, poly(n-butyl isocyanate)–bromine (PBIC–Br). (3) The ATRP method of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate initiated by PBIC–Br provided rod [poly(n-butyl isocyanate) (PBIC)]–coil [poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA)] block copolymers with a CuCl/CuCl2/2,2′-bipyridyl catalyst. (4) The esterfication of PBIC-block-PHEMA with BIBB yielded a block-type macroinitiator, and (5) ATRP of methyl methacrylate with a block-type macroinitiator provided rod–brush block copolymers. We found from the solution properties that such rod–brush block copolymers formed nanostructured macromolecules in solution. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

An amphiphilic block copolymer with photocleavable nitrobenzyl moieties in the side chain of the hydrophobic block was successfully synthesized by a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azide and alkynes. 2-(Trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (HEMATMS) was polymerized from a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macroinitiator via ATRP, leading to a well-defined block copolymer of PEO113-b-PHEMATMS45 with low polydispersity index (PDI = 1.09). After the polymerization, trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups were deprotected and then functionalized in-situ with 3-azidopropionic chloride to yield PEO-b-[2-(1-azidobutyryloxy)ethyl methacrylate] (PEO-b-PAzHEMA). Alkyne-functionalized pyrene with a photocleavable 2-nitrobenzyl moiety was added to the PEO-b-PAzHEMA backbone via click chemistry to produce the desired block copolymer with high fidelity. The resulting block copolymer was self-assembled in water to yield spherical micelles with an average diameter of 60 nm. Upon UV irradiation, 2-nitrobenzyl moieties were selectively cleaved, leading to the release of a model drug, 1-pyrenebutyric acid. Coumarin 102, another model drug that was physically encapsulated in the core of micelles during micellization in water, was also released at the same time. The general strategy presented herein can potentially be utilized for the preparation of polymeric vehicles that are capable of delivering multiple therapeutics under controlled individual release kinetics.  相似文献

The synthesis of ABC triblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate)-block-polystyrene (PEO-b-PMMA-b-PS) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is reported. First, a PEO-Br macroinitiator was synthesized by esterification of PEO with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide, which was subsequently used in the preparation of halo-terminated poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PEO-b-PMMA) diblock copolymers under ATRP conditions. Then PEO-b-PMMA-b-PS triblock copolymer was synthesized by ATRP of styrene using PEO-b-PMMA as a macroinitiator. The structures and molecular characteristics of the PEO-b-PMMA-b-PS triblock copolymers were studied by FT-IR, GPC and 1H NMR.  相似文献

Summary  A novel synthetic route, combining three reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) and one atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) processes, for the preparation of a miktoarm dumbbell-like amphiphilic triblock copolymer, poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate)-b-polystyrene-b-(poly(4-vinylbenzyl chloride)-g-polystyrene) (PPEGMA-b-PS-b-(PVBC-g-PS)), was developed using 2-cyanoprop-2-yl 1-dithionaphthalate (CPDN) as a RAFT agent, and the benzyl chloride group of the VBC units in the PVBC block as active ATRP macroinitiators, respectively. The structures of the obtained (co)polymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The obtained PPEGMA-b-PS-b-(PVBC-g-PS) amphiphilic triblock graft copolymer could self-assemble into spherical micelles with 100-300 nm diameters in a selective solvent.  相似文献

This study involved the use of an amphipathic graft copolymer, poly(methyl methacrylate-co-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate)–graft–polyoxyethylene, as a stabilizer in the emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate. The stabilizing effectiveness of this graft copolymer was studied as a function of its chemical structure. It was found that the stabilizing effectiveness of the graft copolymer was independent of the molecular weight of the backbone within the investigated range of 4 × 103 g/mol to 2 × 104 g/mol. In all cases, stable emulsion polymerizations of methyl methacrylate were observed. Effective stabilization also occurred when the graft moieties possessed a molecular weight of either 2 × 103 g/mol or 5 × 103 g/mol. However, the stabilizing effectiveness was found to be dependent on the amount of polyoxyethylene (POE) contained in the graft copolymer. In this case, graft copolymers possessing 67% by weight POE were poor stabilizers, but ones with 85% POE were very good stabilizers. Moreover, the graft copolymers were found to be superior stabilizers as compared to POE homopolymers.  相似文献

Photo‐induced atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was achieved in poly(ethylene glycol)‐400 with nanosized α‐Fe2O3 as photoinitiator. Well‐defined poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was synthesized in conjunction with ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate (EBiB) as ATRP initiator and FeCl3·6H2O/Triphenylphosphine (PPh3) as complex catalyst. The photo‐induced polymerization of MMA proceeded in a controlled/living fashion. The polymerization followed first‐order kinetics. The obtained PMMA had moderately controlled number‐average molecular weights in accordance with the theoretical number‐average molecular weights, as well as narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn). In addition, the polymerization could be well controlled by periodic light‐on–off processes. The resulting PMMA was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and gel permeation chromatography. The brominated PMMA was used further as macroinitiator in the chain‐extension with MMA to verify the living nature of photo‐induced ATRP of MMA. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. This article reports on a facile route for the preparation of methyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate graft copolymers via a combination of catalytic olefin copolymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The chemistry first involved a transforming process from ethylene/allylbenzene copolymers to a polyolefin multifunctional macroinitiator with pendant sulfonyl chloride groups. The key to the success of the graft copolymerization was ascribed to a fast exchange rate between the dormant species and active radical species by optimization of the various experimental parameters. Polyolefin‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate) and polyolefin‐g‐poly(methyl acrylate) graft copolymers with controlled architecture and various graft lengths were, thus, successfully prepared under dilute ATRP conditions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel organosoluble fluorescent polynorbornenes with multi-functional armed structure were designed and prepared by using highly stable block macroinitiators via a combination of living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A bromo-containing functional norbornene (NBMBr) was prepared from the Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and allyl bromide. The diblock copolymer of 5-(N-carbazolyl methyl)bicycle[2.2.1]hept-2-ene (CbzNB) and NBMBr was successfully prepared using living ROMP and used as a novel macroinitiator [poly(CbzNB-b-NBMBr)] for ATRP. Carbazoyl-containing multi-functional armed copolymer with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was prepared by using poly(CbzNB-b-NBMBr) as a macroinitiator for ATRP. Strong fluorescence emissions (370-450 nm) were observed in the low excimer-forming multi-functional armed fluorescent polynorbornenes. The fact is that low excimer-forming carbazole-containing polymeric compound would apparently be favorable in photoconductive materials. The multi-functional armed structure make this compound an attractive candidate for applications as multi-modified hole transport materials in molecular electronic devices. Multi-modification could be further considered to be carried out by using such a functional bromo group at the end of multi-arms.  相似文献
