The theory of deformation twinning is developed and applied to superlattice structures. With the exception of some hypothetical structures at rather improbable stoichiometric compositions, the normal b.c.c. or f.c.c. twinning shears always lead to “pseudo modes” when applied without “shuffles” to a cubic superlattice. In non-cubic superlattices, however, some variants of the usual disordered mode correspond to true twins whereas others give pseudo twins. True twins in non-cubic superlattices may have type I, type II or “combined” orientation relations, even though all twinning elements are rational, so that all twins are “compound” in the conventional definition. True twins in cubic superlattices may form (geometrically) by non-shuffle modes of higher shear or by modes requiring some “non-interchange” shuffling; there is recent experimental evidence for the operation of such a shuffle mode in a B2 superlattice structure. The paper includes a full discussion of the various true and pseudo twinning modes in all the cubic and non-cubic superlattices which appear in the Richards and Cahn ground state diagrams. Recent experimental work has shown that twinning is often an important deformation mode in superlattices; these experimental results are discussed and shown to be in general agreement with the theory.  相似文献

The new method of the strain rate change has been used to completely eliminate the machine and the sample elastic compliance. Therefore the Cottrell-Stokes law for copper, aluminium and silver single crystals deformed at low temperatures has been verified with great confidence. In all the experiments the increasing deviation from the Cottrell-Stokes law has been observed from the beginning of the crystals plastic flow throughout the deformation. Such character of the Cottrell-Stokes relation can testify that at least at a low temperature the plastic flow in stages II and III is controlled by the same mechanism or, that the deformation mechanism systematically changes throughout the deformation.  相似文献

Rolled metals and alloys exhibit a laminar structure after moderate strains and are treated in this work as laminar composites. A model for shear band propagation at angles other than the principal resolved stress is presented which allows the shear strength of a particular texture component to be evaluated in terms including an in-plane shear stress component existing between adjacent laminae. Flow localisation in the form of a shear band occurs when a reduced number of slip systems necessary to accomplish the shear coincides with the minima in shear strength. The model is derived from the behaviour of the {111} 〈112〉 rolling deformation texture formed in α-brass which shears at 35° and is applied to another alloy system, PbCaSn, which shears at ~ 30°. Theory and experiment are in reasonable agreement.  相似文献

The analysis of lamellar twin nucleation and growth in materials with f.c.c structure is given. The orientation of the annealing twin components in copper and Fe-50% Ni alloy was determined by Laue back reflection method. Twin component misorientation can be different from Σ = 3. Besides Σ = 3, misorientations with Σ = 11, 9, 5, 17 and 13 were observed. Results are discussed in terms of atomic mechanism of twin formation due to grain boundary dissociation. With the rapidly mounting cost of medical care in hospitals, physicians must seek alternative forms of therapy for illnesses that could conceivably be treated by less confining methods. One appraoch to this problem is the Psoriasis Day Care Center, where psoriasis patients with extensive disease are treated during the day and allowed to return home at night. The advantages include reduced cost, accessibility for more patients, and superior therapeutic results. This day care center concept could be equally applicable to other diseases now routinely treated by complete hospitalization.  相似文献

While it is widely recognized that alloy factors other than stacking fault energy play a role in promoting planarity of slip, no detailed model has been advanced to explain the mechanism of planar vs wavy slip mode. Therefore, friction stress effects of alloying on disolcation behavior are reviewed, as well as the role of stacking fault structure in inhibiting the clustering of dislocations in planar slip metal. A model of cross-slip inhibition (and thus planar slip behavior) is developed from the idea that the joining of partials is resisted by frictional effects. Planarity of slip is promoted not only by low stacking fault energy but by increase in shear modulus, atomic size misfit and solute content. A critical solute concentration is predicted by the model for the transition from wavy slip to planar slip and this is shown to be in good agreement with observations for copper base solid solutions and other alloy systems.  相似文献

Smith was one of the premier bridge builders of the post-Civil War period. He started his bridge building career under Albert Fink on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. During the Civil War, he designed and built a powder factory for the Confederacy at Augusta, Ga. After the war, he formed Smith and Latrobe Co. and later The Baltimore Bridge Company with Benjamin and C. H. Latrobe. He worked closely with James Eads on the St. Louis Bridge and designed and built the long iron easterly approach to the bridge. He designed and built some of the major viaducts, swing, and fixed span bridges in the United States, Australia, and Peru, and finally innovative cantilever bridges over the Kentucky, Mississippi, and St. Lawrence Rivers.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pregnancy would help define a benign pelvic mass, thereby avoiding laparotomy. METHODS: During a 2-3-year period, five pregnant women with adnexal masses suspected to be leiomyomas underwent MRI. RESULTS: Four patients had evidence of leiomyoma and one had a benign cystic teratoma. All avoided laparotomy because of the almost certain radiologic findings of a benign process. In two women, there was an important effect on the pregnancy; one had fetal growth retardation and the other an outlet obstruction precluding vaginal delivery. Four of the patients underwent cesarean delivery. CONCLUSIONS: Magnetic resonance imaging can be used in the differential diagnosis of an adnexal mass in pregnancy. This will enable some pregnant patients to avoid laparotomy and its concomitant risks.  相似文献

A review is given of the internal friction and ultrasonic attenuation investigations made so far on hydrogen charged austenitic stainless steels, high nickel alloys, nickell and copper. The experimental results show that only some forms of hydrogen in f.c.c. metals are of importance for modification of internal friction spectrum: atoms located in the interstices and their pairs, interstitials segregated at the dislocations, and hydrogen bound in hydride and molecular forms. These different hydrogen forms are concluded to affect some already existing anelastic phenomena or to result in appearance of some new processes.  相似文献
