The physicomechanical properties of functionally active poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate) [poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)] are evaluated. It has been reported that the surface phosphorylated poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) is capable of eliciting direct bone bonding when implanted in vivo. Hence, it is important to examine the physicomechanical property of the copolymer as a function of surface modification. The properties assessed are differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), equilibrium swelling, compressive strength, and dynamic mechanical analysis. According to the DSC data, the glass transition temperature, Tg of poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) is not significantly altered by surface phosphorylation. The TGA results demonstrated that unmodified and surface phosphorylated copolymers have similar degradation profile. The differential thermal analysis further supports the data. The equilibrium swelling of functionalized poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) in phosphate buffer saline ascertained that surface phosphorylation significantly increased the hydrophilicity of the copolymer. The study further illustrated that the percentage of equilibrium swelling appreciably increases with increase in HEMA content in the copolymer and reached a plateau after 100 h. Both compressive strength and compressive modulus of poly (HEMA‐co‐MMA) decreased due to surface phosphorylation while dynamic storage modulus value was not altered. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone‐co‐octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes) (PVP‐POSS) organic–inorganic hybrid nanocomposites containing different percentages of POSS were prepared via free radical polymerization and characterized by FTIR, high‐resolution 1H‐NMR, solid‐state 29Si‐NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. POSS contents in these nanocomposites can be effectively controlled by varying the POSS feed ratios which can be accurately quantified by FTIR curve calibration. On the basis of 29Si‐NMR spectra, average numbers of reacted vinyl groups of each octavinyl‐POSS macromer are calculated to be 5–7, which depends on POSS feed ratios. Both GPC and DSC results indicate that these nanocomposites display network structure and the degree of crosslinking increases with the increase of the POSS content. The incorporation of POSS into PVP significantly improves their thermal properties (Tg and Tdec) primarily due to crosslinking structure and dipole–dipole interaction between POSS cores and PVP carbonyl groups. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polystyrene (PS)‐incorporated polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) organic–inorganic hybrid graft copolymer could be achieved by click coupling reaction between alkyne groups in POSS and azido groups in PS via “graft onto” strategy. Alkyne‐functionalized POSS was synthesized via thiol‐ene facile click reaction and subsequent amidation reaction with very high yield. Azido‐multifunctionalized PS could be synthesized by chloromethylation and subsequent azido reaction. The chemical structures of PS‐(CH2Cl)m, PS‐(CH2N3)m, and PS‐g‐POSS were determined by Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR characterization. PS‐g‐POSS presented a better hydrophobic property with contact angle of 113° than that of PS (85°). And PS‐g‐POSS with ≤5% of grafting degree had lower glass transition temperature (Tg) than that of PS and then it increased up to 112°C with grafting degree. An obvious aggregation of POSS phase with 10–80 nm in size was formed in PS‐g‐POSS matrix. In addition, 5 wt % of PS‐g‐POSS was added to general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) to remarkably improve its tensile strength from 45 to 57 MPa. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Chitosan (CS) grafted poly[(acrylic acid)‐co‐(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)] (CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA)) at different molar ratios of AA and HEMA, and the associated nanocomposite hydrogels of CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA)/mica were synthesized by radical copolymerization. The grafting positions at the amino or hydroxyl groups in the CS were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA) hydrogels were intercalated in the mica and the amount of hydrogel insertion did not affect the spacing of the silicate layers in mica. The higher mica loadings produced a rougher surface of the nanocomposite hydrogel. The water absorbency of the CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA)/mica nanocomposite hydrogels decreased with increasing levels of mica loading to a lower level than those of the CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA) hydrogels. Both CS‐g‐poly(AA) and CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA)/mica nanocomposite hydrogels exhibited a higher antiproliferative activity against Staphylococcus aureus than did the neat CS hydrogel with CS‐g‐poly(AA) revealing a very pronounced minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of 1.56 mg mL?1. The extent of mica loading in the CS‐g‐poly(AA‐co‐HEMA) nanocomposite hydrogels did not affect the MIC (12.5 mg mL?1). © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Poly(ethylene glycol)‐octafunctionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) (Mn = 5576.6 g/mol) alloying agent stabilized amphiphilic silica@silver metalloid nanocomposite blended with a triblock copolymer poly(p‐dioxanone‐co‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(p‐dioxanone‐co‐caprolactone) (POSS‐SiO2@Ag/PPDO‐co‐PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PPDO‐co‐PCL) has been synthesized in both water and in organic medium utilizing ultrasonochemical reaction. The POSS stabilized pre‐made metalloid was successfully dispersed in amphiphilic PPDO‐co‐PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PPDO‐co‐PCL (ABA) triblock copolymer matrix of molecular weight 45.9 × 104 g/mol. The mechanism of synthesis of high concentration of SiO2@Ag nanocomposite from TEOS/AgNO3 (in the presence of NH4OH as catalyst/NaBH4 as reductant) nonmetal/metal precursors and the successful EISA of POSS‐SiO2@Ag/ABA nanocomposite into films has been discussed. The successful synthesis of metalloid nanocomposite was morphologically accessed by field emission‐scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Surface plasmon resonance was ensured from UV–visible spectral analysis. Identity and the crystallinity of as prepared nanocomposite were studied by X‐ray diffractometer. Structural and luminescence properties of the nanocomposite were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence. Thermogravimetric analysis was carried out to study the thermal stability of the resulting hybrid nanocomposite. The resultant inorganic–organic nanocomposite can be easily suspended in water and would be useful in variety of applications. POLYM. The poly(styrene‐co‐octavinyl‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) (PS–POSS) organic–inorganic hybrid nanocomposites containing various percent of POSS were prepared via one‐step free radical polymerization and characterized by FTIR, high‐resolution 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA technologies. The POSS contents in these nanocomposites were determined using FTIR calibration curve. The result shows that the POSS contents in nanocomposites can be tailored by varying the POSS feed ratios. On the basis of the POSS contents in the nanocomposites and the 1H NMR spectra, the number of reacted vinyl groups of each octavinyl‐POSS macromonomer were calculated to be 6–8. DSC and TGA measurements indicate that the incorporation of POSS into PS homopolymer can apparently improve the thermal properties of the polymeric materials. The dramatic Tg and Tdec increases are mainly due to the formation of star and low cross‐linking structure of the nanocomposites, where POSS cores behave as the joint points and hinder the motion and degradation of the polymeric chains. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone‐co‐isobutyl styryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane)s (PVP–POSS) were synthesized by one‐step polymerization and characterized using FTIR, high‐resolution 1H‐NMR, solid‐state 13C‐NMR, 29Si‐NMR, GPC, and DSC. The POSS content can be controlled by varying the POSS feed ratio. The Tg of the PVP–POSS hybrid is influenced by three main factors: (1) a diluent role of the POSS in reducing the self‐association of the PVP; (2) a strong interaction between the POSS siloxane and the PVP carbonyl, and (3) physical aggregation of nanosized POSS. At a relatively low POSS content, the role as diluent dominates, resulting in a decrease in Tg. At a relatively high POSS content, the last two factors dominate and result in Tg increase of the PVP–POSS hybrid. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 91: 2208–2215, 2004  相似文献

A new and promising method for the diversification of microbial polyesters based on chemical modifications is introduced. Poly(3‐hydroxy alkanoate)‐g‐(poly(tetrahydrofuran)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate)) (PHA‐g‐(PTHF‐b‐PMMA)) multigraft copolymers were synthesized by the combination of cationic and free radical polymerization. PHA‐g‐PTHF graft copolymer was obtained by the cationic polymerization of THF initiated by the carbonium cations generated from the chlorinated PHAs, poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV), and poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHx) in the presence of AgSbF6. Therefore, PHA‐g‐PTHF graft copolymers with hydroxyl ends were produced. In the presence of Ce+4 salt, these hydroxyl ends of the graft copolymer can initiate the redox polymerization of MMA to obtain PHA‐g‐(PTHF‐b‐PMMA) multigraft copolymer. Polymers obtained were purified by fractional precipitation. In this manner, their γ‐values (volume ratio of nonsolvent to the solvent) were also determined. Their molecular weights were determined by GPC technique. The structures were elucidated using 1H‐NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. Thermal analyses of the products were carried out using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

A facile synthetic pathway to a multi‐arm star graft polymer has been developed via a grafting‐onto strategy using a combination of a reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) arm‐first technique and aldehyde–aminooxy click reaction. A star backbone bearing aldehyde groups was prepared by the RAFT copolymerization of acrolein (Ac), an existing commercial aldehyde‐bearing monomer, with styrene (St), followed by crosslinking of the resultant poly(St‐co‐Ac) macro‐RAFT agent using divinylbenzene. The aldehyde groups on the star backbone were then used as clickable sites to attach poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) side chains via the click reaction between the aldehyde groups and aminooxy‐terminated PEG, leading to a structurally well‐defined star graft copolymer with arms consisting of poly(St‐co‐Ac) as backbone and PEG as side chains. Crystalline morphology and self‐assembly in water of the obtained star graft copolymer were also investigated. Opportunities are open for the star graft copolymer to form either multimolecular micelles or unimolecular micelles via control of the number of grafted PEG side chains. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

To improve the mechanical properties of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), the possibility of combining PVC with elastomers was considered. Modification of natural rubber (NR) by graft copolymerization with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) was carried out by emulsion polymerization by using redox initiator to provide an impact modifier for PVC. The impact resistance, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of St and MMA grafted NR [NR‐g‐(St‐co‐MMA)]/PVC (graft copolymer product contents of 5, 10, and 15%) blends were investigated as a function of the amount of graft copolymer product. It was found that the impact strength of blends was increased with an increase of the graft copolymer product content. DMA studies showed that NR‐g‐(St‐co‐MMA) has partial compatibility with PVC. SEM confirmed a shift from brittle failure to ductility with an increase graft copolymer content in the blends. The mechanical properties showed that NR‐g‐(St‐co‐MMA) interacts well with PVC and can also be used as an impact modifier for PVC. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2‐(trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate (Pro‐HEMA) copolymers were prepared by atom‐transfer radical polymerization(ATRP), using CuCl/2,2′‐bipyridine as catalytic system and p‐toluenesulfonyl chloride as initiator. ATRP process of MMA and Pro‐HEMA was monitored by 1H NMR, and the kinetic curves of the MMA/Pro‐HEMA copolymerization were plotted in terms of the 1H NMR data. At low content of Pro‐HEMA in the feed composition, the copolymerization can be well controlled with the molecular weight, polydispersity and the monomer distribution in the copolymer chain. With the increase of Pro‐HEMA content in the feed mixture, the composition of the final copolymer deviates from the composition of the feed mixture gradually, and gradient copolymers of MMA/Pro‐HEMA can be obtained. Through the hydrolysis process, well‐defined copolymers of MMA/HEMA were obtained from poly(MMA/Pro‐HEMA). Copyright © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA)] copolymer was synthesized by controlled radical polymerization from respective N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) monomers with a predetermined ratio. To prepare the thermosensitive and biodegradable nanoparticles, new thermosensitive graft copolymer, poly(L ‐lactide)‐graft‐poly(N‐isoporylacrylamide‐co‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [PLLA‐g‐P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA)], with the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) near the normal body temperature, was synthesized by ring opening polymerization of L ‐lactide in the presence of P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA). The amphiphilic property of the graft copolymers was formed by the grafting of the PLLA hydrophobic chains onto the PNIPAM based hydrophilic backbone. Therefore, the graft copolymers can self‐assemble into uniformly spherical micelles ò about 150–240 nm in diameter as observed by the field emission scanning electron microscope and dynamic light scattering. Dexamethasone can be loaded into these nanostructures during dialysis with a relative high loading capacity and its in vitro release depends on temperature. Above the LCST, most of the drugs were released from the drug‐loaded micelles, whereas a large amount of drugs still remains in the micelles after 48 h below the LCST. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cellulase was immobilized directly on methyl methacrylate‐glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (MMA‐co‐GMA) and methyl methacrylate‐2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate copolymer (MMA‐co‐HEMA) by covalent attachment and crosslinking methods. The properties of the immobilized cellulase were investigated and compared with those of the free one. For the assays carried out through crosslinking method at 25°C and pH 7, the retained activities were found to be 91.92% and 74.63%, respectively, for MMA‐co‐GMA and MMA‐co‐HEMA crosslinked with 0.1% of 1‐cyclohexyl‐3‐(2‐morpholino‐ethyl) carbodiimide metho‐p‐toluenesulfonate (CMCT), respectively. The immobilized cellulase had better stability and higher retained activities with respect to pH, temperature, and storage stability than the free one. In the repeated use experiments, the immobilized cellulase using (MMA‐co‐GMA)‐CMCT (0.1%) and (MMA‐co‐HEMA)‐CMCT (0.1%) did not change after 10 and eight times of repeated use and maintained 67% and 62% from their original activities after 25 times, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With an aim to develop injectable hydrogel with improved solution stability and enhanced bone repair function, thermogelling poly(ε‐caprolactone‐cop‐dioxanone)‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐poly(ε‐caprolactone–cop‐dioxanone) (PECP)/bioactive inorganic particle nanocomposites were successfully prepared by blending the triblock copolymer (PECP) with nano‐hydroxyapatite (n‐HA) or nano‐calcium carbonate (n‐CaCO3). The hydrogel nanocomposites underwent clear sol–gel transitions with increasing temperature from 0 to 50°C. The obtained hydrogel nanocomposites were investigated by 1H NMR, FT‐IR, TEM, and DSC. It was found that the incorporation of inorganic nanoparticles into PECP matrix would lead to the critical gelation temperature (CGT) shifting to lower values compared with the pure PECP hydrogel. The CGT of the hydrogel nanocomposites could be effectively controlled by adjusting PECP concentration or the content of inorganic nanoparticles. The SEM results showed that the interconnected porous structures of hydrogel nanocomposites were potentially useful as injectable scaffolds. In addition, due to the relatively low crystallinity of PECP triblock copolymer, the aqueous solutions of the nanocomposites could be stored at low temperature (5°C) without crystallization for several days, which would facilitate the practical applications. The PECP/bioactive inorganic particle hydrogel nanocomposites are expected to be promising injectable tissue engineering materials for bone repair applications. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Ferrocene‐substituted conducting polymer namely poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene‐co‐3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) [P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT)] was synthesized and its electrochromic properties were studied. Monomer, MTFE, was obtained using 2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene and 3‐methyl‐4‐bromothiophene. The structure of monomer was determined via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR techniques. The copolymer was synthesized using this monomer and EDOT. The resulting copolymer P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FTIR, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and UV–vis spectroscopy. The conductivity measurements of copolymer and PEDOT were accomplished by the four‐probe technique. Although poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene) [P(MTFE)] reveals no electrochromic activity, its copolymer with EDOT has two different colors (violet and gray). Band gap (Eg) and λmax of P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) were determined. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Narrow‐distribution, well‐defined comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers are reported in this work. The copolymers are composed of poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(MMA‐co‐HEMA)) as the backbones and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) as the grafted chains, with the copolymer backbones being synthesized via atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the grafted chains by oxyanionic polymerization. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The aggregation behavior in aqueous solutions of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers was also investigated. 1H NMR spectroscopic and surface tension measurements all indicated that the copolymers could form micelles in aqueous solutions and they possessed high surface activity. The results of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations showed that the hydrodynamic diameters of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymer aggregates increased with dilution. Because of the protonizable properties of the graft chains, the surface activity properties and micellar state can be easily modulated by variations in pH. The newly designed methacrylic monomer series 4‐phthalimidocyclohexyl methacrylate (PCMA ), 4‐hexahydrophthalimidocyclohexyl methacrylate (HPCMA) and 4‐hexahydro‐3,6‐methanophthalimidocyclohexyl methacrylate (HMPCMA) were synthesized. Their homopolymers and methyl methacrylate (MMA) based copolymer series were polymerized by free‐radical polymerization. The copolymer compositions were characterized using 1H NMR spectra. The monomer reactivity ratios were calculated employing the Fineman?Ross (F‐T) and Kelen?Tüdös (K‐T) methods at low conversion. The values of r1 and r2 obtained by the F‐T and K‐T methods appear to be in close agreement (their average values are r1 = 1.3061 and r2 = 0.7336 for poly(PCMA‐co‐MMA), r1 = 1.5169 and r2 = 0.6840 for poly(HPCMA‐co‐MMA), r1 = 1.7748 and r2 = 0.5664 for poly(HMPCMA‐co‐MMA)) . The thermal stabilities and thermomechanical characteristics of the homopolymer and copolymer series were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly[methacryloxypropylheptacyclopentyl‐T8‐silsesquioxane (MAPOSS)‐co‐3‐methacryloxypropyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane (SiMA)] was synthesized through free radical polymerization. The physical and carbon dioxide (CO2) sorption properties of the copolymer membranes were investigated in terms of the MAPOSS content. As the MAPOSS content increases, the membrane density increased, suggesting a decrease in the fractional free volume. In addition, the thermal stability was improved with increasing the MAPOSS content. These are because of the polyhedraloligomericilsesquioxane (POSS) units that restrict the high mobility of poly(SiMA) segments. The glass transition temperature, Tg of the copolymers was single Tg based on the differential scanning calorimetry, suggesting that the copolymers were random and not phase separation. Based on the CO2 sorption measurement, the POSS units play a role in reducing Henry's dissolution by suppressing the mobility of the poly(SiMA) component, while POSS units increase the nonequilibrium excess free volume, which contributes to the Langmuir dissolution. Based on these results, the introduction of MAPOSS unit is one of the effective ways to improved the thermal stability and CO2 sorption property due to the enhancement of the polymer rigidity. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, synthesis, characterization, partial hydrolysis, and salt formation of poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐co‐poly(4‐vinyl pyridine), (poly(HEMA)‐co‐poly‐(4‐VP)) copolymers were investigated. The copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization using K2S2O8 as an initiator. By varying the monomer/initiator ratio, chain lengths of the copolymers were changed. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), viscosity measurements, 1H and 13C NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and end group analysis methods. The copolymers were partially hydrolyzed by p‐toluene sulfonic acid monohydrate (PTSA·H2O) and washed with LiOH(aq) solution to prepare electrorheological (ER) active ionomers, poly(Li‐HEMA)‐co‐poly(4‐VP). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Propylene random copolymer (PPR)/styrene‐ethylene‐butylene‐styrene block copolymer (SEBS)/compatibilizer/organic‐montmorillonite (OMMT) quaternary nanocomposites and PPR/compatibilizer/OMMT ternary nanocomposites were prepared via two‐stage melt blending and influences of compatibilizers, maleic anhydride (MA) grafted styrene‐ethylene‐butylene‐styrene copolymer (SEBS‐g‐MA), poly(octene‐co‐ethylene) (POE‐g‐MA), or propylene block copolymers (PPB‐g‐MA), on rheology and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. The results of X‐ray diffraction measurement and transmission electron microscopy observation showed that OMMT layers were mainly intercalated in the nanocomposites except for the mainly exfoliated structure in the quaternary nanocomposites using POE‐g‐MA as compatibilizer. The nanocomposites exhibited pseudo‐solid like viscoelasticity in low frequencies and shear‐thinning in high shear rates. As far as OMMT dispersion was concerned, POE‐g‐MA was superior to SEBS‐g‐MA and PPB‐g‐MA, which gives rise to the highest viscosities in both the ternary and quaternary nanocomposites. The quaternary nanocomposites containing POE‐g‐MA were endowed with balanced toughness and rigidity. It was suggested that a suitable combination of compatibilizer and SEBS was an essentially important factor for adjusting the OMMT dispersion and distribution, the rheological and mechanical performances of the nanocomposites. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
