The adsorption of Acid Red 57 (AR57) onto calcined-alunite was examined in aqueous solution in a batch system with respect to contact time, pH and temperature. The first-order, pseudo-second-order kinetic and the intraparticle diffusion models were used to describe the kinetic data and the rate constants were evaluated. The experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and also followed the intraparticle diffusion model up to 90 min. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were also determined. The equilibrium data are successfully fitted to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Langmuir isotherm constant, K(L), was used to evaluate the changes of free energy, enthalpy and entropy of adsorption for the adsorption of AR57 onto calcined-alunite. The results indicate that calcined-alunite could be employed as low-cost material for the removal of acid dyes from textile effluents.  相似文献

The adsorption of two basic dyes, namely, Malachite Green and Methylene Blue onto both agricultural by-products (i.e. rice bran and wheat bran) has been investigated in this study. The adsorption of both basic dyes was solution pH-dependent. The kinetic experimental data were analyzed using four kinetic equations including pseudo-first-order equation, pseudo-second-order equation, external diffusion model and intraparticle diffusion model to examine the mechanism of adsorption and potential rate-controlling step. The best-fit equation was identified using normalized standard deviation. The Langmuir and Freundich isotherms were used to fit the equilibrium data and the results showed that the Langmuir isotherm exhibited a little better fit to the Methylene Blue adsorption data by both adsorbents while the Freundlich isotherm seemed to agree better with the Malachite Green adsorption. The Gibbs free energy changes at 20 degrees C were calculated and the obtained values supported the conclusion that two dyes molecules adsorbed by physical processes. The effects of particle size, adsorbent concentration and solution ionic strength on the adsorption of the two basic dyes were also studied.  相似文献

The adsorption of Pb(II) onto Turkish (Bandirma region) kaolinite clay was examined in aqueous solution with respect to the pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and temperature. The linear Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe equilibrium isotherms and both models fitted well. The monolayer adsorption capacity was found as 31.75 mg/g at pH 5 and 20 degrees C. Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm model was also applied to the equilibrium data. The mean free energy of adsorption (13.78 kJ/mol) indicated that the adsorption of Pb(II) onto kaolinite clay may be carried out via chemical ion-exchange mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters, free energy (deltaG degrees ), enthalpy (deltaH degrees ) and entropy (deltaS degrees ) of adsorption were also calculated. These parameters showed that the adsorption of Pb(II) onto kaolinite clay was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic process in nature. Furthermore, the Lagergren-first-order, pseudo-second-order and the intraparticle diffusion models were used to describe the kinetic data. The experimental data fitted well the pseudo-second-order kinetics.  相似文献

In this paper, pineapple stem (PS) waste, an agricultural waste available in large quantity in Malaysia, was utilized as low-cost adsorbent to remove basic dye (methylene blue, MB) from aqueous solution by adsorption. Batch mode experiments were conducted at 30 degrees C to study the effects of initial concentration of methylene blue, contact time and pH on dye adsorption. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms and kinetic were investigated. The experimental data were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models and the isotherm data fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm with monolayer adsorption capacity of 119.05mg/g. The kinetic data obtained at different concentrations were analyzed using a pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equation and intraparticle diffusion equation. The experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The PS was found to be very effective adsorbent for MB adsorption.  相似文献

Studies on a batch sorption system using Tectona grandis l.f. as adsorbent was investigated to remove copper(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption experiments were performed under various conditions such as different initial concentrations, pH, adsorbent dosage and adsorbent particle size. The data showed that 0.1 g of Tectona grandis l.f. was found to remove 71.66% of 20 mg/L copper(II) from 30 mL aqueous solution in 180 min. The experimental equilibrium data were adjusted by the adsorption isotherms from Langmuir and Freundlich models and their equilibrium parameters were determined. The best-adjusted model to the experimental equilibrium data for Tectona grandis l.f. was the Langmuir model. Using the Langmuir model equation, the monolayer sorption capacity of Tectona grandis l.f. was evaluated and found to be 95.40 mg/g. The optimum pH value was found to be 5.5. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. The dynamic data fitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.  相似文献

The adsorption of Disperse Orange 25 (3-[N-ethyl-4-(4-nitrophenylazo) phenylamino] propionitrile) onto activated carbon was investigated in a batch system with respect to contact time, carbon dosage, pH and temperature from aqueous solutions. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were also determined. The Langmuir isotherm model agrees with the experimental data well. Maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of Disperse Orange 25 onto adsorbent was 118.93 mg g−1 at 20 °C. The first-order, pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the intraparticle diffusion model were used to describe the kinetic data and the rate constants were evaluated as well. The experimental data fitted very well to pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The results show that activated carbon prepared from Euphorbia rigida by sulfuric acid chemical activation could be employed as low-cost material to compare with commercial activated carbon for the removal of disperse dyes from effluents.  相似文献

The adsorption of Congo Red onto bentonite in a batch adsorber has been studied. Four kinetic models, the pseudo first- and second-order equations, the Elovich equation and the intraparticle diffusion equation, were selected to follow the adsorption process. Kinetic parameters; rate constants, equilibrium adsorption capacities and correlation coefficients, for each kinetic equation were calculated and discussed. It was shown that the adsorption of Congo Red onto bentonite could be described by the pseudo second-order equation. The experimental isotherm data were analyzed using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin equations. Adsorption of Congo Red onto bentonite followed the Langmuir isotherm. A single stage batch adsorber was designed for different adsorbent mass/treated effluent volume ratios using the Langmuir isotherm.  相似文献

Bagasse-based ion adsorbent was prepared by chemically modifying bagasse with acrylonitrile and hydroxylamine with the aim to enhance the ability of removal heavy metal ions from wastewater. The purified modified materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). Batch experiments of Cu(II) ions (Cu(2+)) adsorption on the bagasse adsorbent were performed. Effects of the adsorbent dosage, initial pH of the solution, temperature of the Cu(2+) solution, and initial Cu(2+) concentration on the adsorption of Cu(2+) were studied, respectively. Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the adsorption isotherm of Cu(2+) by bagasse adsorbent. The results indicated that Langmuir model fitted the adsorption equilibrium data better than the Freundlich isotherm model. Two kinetic models, including pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order, were also used to analyze the Cu(2+) adsorption process, and the results showed that the pseudo-second-order with correlation coefficients greater than 0.999 was more suitable than pseudo-first-order.  相似文献

The adsorption of Acid Red 57 (AR57) onto surfactant-modified sepiolite was investigated in aqueous solution in a batch system with respect to contact time, pH and temperature. The surface modification of surfactant-modified sepiolite was controlled using the FTIR technique. The pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the intraparticle diffusion model were used to describe the kinetic data and the rate constants were evaluated. The experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and also followed the intraparticle diffusion model up to 90 min, whereas diffusion is not only the rate controlling step. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were also determined. The Freundlich model agrees with experimental data well. The activation energy, change of free energy, enthalpy and entropy of adsorption were also evaluated for the adsorption of AR57 onto surfactant-modified sepiolite. The results indicate that surfactant-modified sepiolite could be employed as low-cost material for the removal of textile dyes from effluents.  相似文献

The biosorption of lead ions from aqueous solution by Syzygium cumini L. was studied in a batch adsorption system as a function of pH, contact time, lead ion concentration, adsorbent concentration and adsorbent size. The biosorption capacities and rates of lead ions onto S. cumini L. were evaluated. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson and Temkin adsorption models were applied to describe the isotherms and isotherm constants. Biosorption isothermal data could be well interpreted by the Langmuir model followed by Temkin model with maximum adsorption capacity of 32.47 mg/g of lead ion on S. cumini L. leaves biomass. The kinetic experimental data were properly correlated with the second-order kinetic model.  相似文献

The adsorption characteristics of Cu(II) and Pb(II) onto expanded perlite (EP) from aqueous solution were investigated with respect to the changes in pH of solution, adsorbent dosage, contact time and temperature of solution. For the adsorption of both metal ions, the Langmuir isotherm model fitted to equilibrium data better than the Freundlich isotherm model. Using the Langmuir model equation, the monolayer adsorption capacity of EP was found to be 8.62 and 13.39 mg/g for Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions, respectively. Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm model was also applied to the equilibrium data and the mean free energies of adsorption were found as 10.82 kJ/mol for Cu(II) and 9.12 kJ/mol for Pb(II) indicating that the adsorption of both metal ions onto EP was taken place by chemical ion-exchange. Thermodynamic functions, the change of free energy (DeltaG degrees ), enthalpy (DeltaH degrees ) and entropy (DeltaS degrees ) of adsorption were also calculated for each metal ions. These parameters showed that the adsorption of Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions onto EP was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic at 20-50 degrees C. Experimental data were also evaluated in terms of kinetic characteristics of adsorption and it was found that adsorption process for both metal ions followed well pseudo-second-order kinetics.  相似文献

In this study, sepiolite, fly ash and apricot stone activated carbon (ASAC) were used as adsorbents for the investigation of the adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamic parameters of the basic dye (Astrazon Blue FGRL) from aqueous solutions at various concentrations (100-300 mg/L), adsorbent doses (3-12 g/L) and temperatures (303-323 K). The result showed that the adsorption capacity of the dye increased with increasing initial dye concentration, adsorbent dose and temperature. Three kinetic models, the pseudo-first-order, second-order, intraparticle diffusion, were used to predict the adsorption rate constants. The kinetics of adsorption of the basic dye followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Equations were developed using the pseudo-second-order model which predicts the amount of the basic dye adsorbed at any contact time, initial dye concentration and adsorbent dose within the given range accurately. The adsorption equilibrium data obeyed Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption capacities (Q0) calculated from the Langmuir isotherm were 181.5 mg/g for ASAC, 155.5 mg/g for sepiolite and 128.2 mg/g for fly ash at 303 K. Thermodynamical parameters were also evaluated for the dye-adsorbent systems and revealed that the adsorption process was endothermic in nature.  相似文献

Batch adsorption of fluoride onto manganese dioxide-coated activated alumina (MCAA) has been studied. Adsorption experiments were carried out at various pH (3-9), time interval (0-6 h), adsorbent dose (1-16 g/l), initial fluoride concentration (1-25 mg/l) and in the presence of different anions. Adsorption isotherms have been modeled using Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin-Raduskevich isotherms and adsorption followed Langmuir isotherm model. Kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption followed second-order rate kinetics. MCAA could remove fluoride effectively (up to 0.2 mg/l) at pH 7 in 3h with 8 g/l adsorbent dose when 10mg/l of fluoride was present in 50 ml of water. In the presence of other anions, the adsorption of fluoride was retared. The mechanism of fluoride uptake by MCAA is due to physical adsorption as well as through intraparticle diffusion which was confirmed by kinetics, Dubinin-Raduskevich isotherm, zeta-potential measurements and mapping studies of energy-dispersive analysis of X-ray.  相似文献

Batch adsorption experiments were carried out for the removal of copper from its aqueous solution using Ulva fasciata sp. a marine green algae as adsorbent. The adsorption of Cu(II) by Ulva fasciata sp. was investigated as a function of pH, contact time, initial Cu(II) and adsorbent concentrations and adsorbent size. About 0.1 g of Ulva fasciata sp. was found to be enough to remove 95% of 20 mg/L copper from 30 mL aqueous solution in 20 min. The optimum pH value was found to be 5. The dynamic data fitted to the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were determined. The experimental adsorption data were fitted to the Langmuir adsorption model. The maximum adsorption capacity was 26.88 mg/g. The applicability of Lagergren kinetic model was also investigated.  相似文献

The adsorption of p-nitrophenol (PNP) onto activated carbon fiber (ACF) was investigated in simulated wastewater in a batch system to evaluate the effects of solution pH, presence of sodium chloride, adsorbent doses and temperature. It was found that PNP adsorption amount depended on pH, sodium chloride content, adsorbent doses and temperature. Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the adsorption isotherms. Freundlich model agreed with experimental data well, indicating the possibility of more than just one monomolecular layer of coverage. SEM photographs of ACF before and after adsorption revealed that it was in part with multimolecular layers of coverage on ACF surfaces. The change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of adsorption were also evaluated for the adsorption process. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. The experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Attempts were made to desorb PNP from ACF using dilute NaOH solution and water, and desorption efficiency was obtained to the extent of 92.7% with 0.025 M NaOH and water at 368 K.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread environmental pollutants that can result in serious health problems and genetic defects in humans. In this research, a spherical microporous carbon adsorbent (CR-1) had been obtained by carbonization and activation of the waste polysulfonated cation exchange resin. Naphthalene was adopted as a model compound to examine the adsorption effectiveness for removing PAHs from the aqueous solution by CR-1. Nonlinear isotherms models, i.e., Freundlich, Langmuir, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller and Polanyi–Dubinin–Manes models were tested to fit experimental data. The adsorption equilibrium data of naphthalene on CR-1 was fitted well by the Polanyi–Dubinin–Manes model. Through both isotherm modeling and constructing “characteristic curve”, Polanyi theory was useful to describe the adsorption process of naphthalene by CR-1, providing evidence that a micropore filling phenomenon is involved. In addition, among the tested kinetic models in this study (e.g., pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations), the pseudo-first-order equation successfully predicted the kinetic adsorption process.  相似文献

Adsorption of copper ions onto Capsicum annuum (red pepper) seeds was investigated with the variation in the parameters of pH, contact time, adsorbent and copper(II) concentrations and temperature. The nature of the possible adsorbent and metal ion interactions was examined by the FTIR technique. The copper(II) adsorption equilibrium was attained within 60 min. Adsorption of copper(II) ions onto C. annuum seeds followed by the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. Maximum adsorption capacity (q(max)) of copper(II) ions onto red pepper seeds was 4.47x10(-4) molg(-1) at 50 degrees C. Three kinetic models including the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion equations were selected to follow the adsorption process. Kinetic parameters such as rate constants, equilibrium adsorption capacities and related correlation coefficients, for each kinetic model were calculated and discussed. It was indicated that the adsorption of copper(II) ions onto C. annuum seeds could be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and also followed the intraparticle diffusion model up to 60 min, but diffusion is not only the rate controlling step. Thermodynamics parameters such as the change of free energy, enthalpy and entropy were also evaluated for the adsorption of copper(II) ions onto C. annuum seeds.  相似文献

Batch adsorption studies were carried out for the sorption of C.I. Reactive Black 5, a reactive dye, onto high lime fly ash, obtained from Soma Thermal Power Plant (Turkey), to be low cost adsorbent. The effect of various experimental parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dose and initial dye concentration were investigated. Determination of the adsorption equilibrium concentrations was determined by UV-vis spectrophotometry analytical method. Equilibrium data were fitted to the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Freundlich isotherm equation. The adsorption kinetics of C.I. Reactive Black 5 onto high lime fly ash were also studied to characterize of the surface complexation reaction. A pseudo-second-order mechanism has been developed to predict the rate constant of the adsorption, the equilibrium capacity and initial adsorption rate with the effect of initial concentration. A single-stage batch adsorber design of the adsorption of C.I. Reactive Black 5 onto high lime fly ash has been studied based on the Freundlich isotherm equation.  相似文献

In this work, sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) seed hull (SSH), an agricultural waste, was evaluated for its ability to remove methyl violet (MV) from aqueous solutions. Sorption isotherm of MV onto the SSH was determined at 30 degrees C with the initial concentrations of MV in the range of 25-300 mg/L. The equilibrium data were analyzed using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models. The equilibrium process was described well by the Freundlich isotherm model. The maximum SSH sorption capacity was found to be 92.59 mg/L at 30 degrees C. The kinetic data were studied in terms of the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models. The pseudo-second-order model best described the sorption process. A single-stage batch-adsorber design of the adsorption of MV onto SSH was studied based on the Freundlich isotherm equation. The results indicated that sunflower seed hull was an attractive candidate for removing methyl violet from aqueous solution.  相似文献
