The personal video recorder (PVR)-a TV recorder that records on a computer hard disc as opposed to tape-has evolved as a direct consequence of the development of the PC as a low-cost, high-performance consumer product. Sharing many features with a PC with tens of gigabytes of hard disc storage, the PVR has the potential to revolutionise the way broadcasters schedule TV programmes and the way viewers watch them. Making a PVR an attractive product needs more than the convergence of TV and computer technology. In particular, an effective programme guide service, downloaded either with the TV signal or via the phone network, is crucial in establishing the PVR's attractiveness to viewers. The stored guide data simplifies programme selection and recording, and offers new features like automatic recording of all episodes of a series, even if they're not all at the same time each week. The DC current-voltage characteristics of strained In0.25 Ga0.75As/AlAs resonant tunneling diode (RTD) structures grown on GaAs (100) substrates which also include prepatterned mesas are discussed. The top media companies increasingly do a lot more than create content. The 12 companies outlined in this article deliver content via cable systems and the Internet. They also have investments in makers of personal video recorders (PVRs) and set-top boxes and suppliers of video on demand. Consider the former Moxi Digital, builder of a personal entertainment hub that can play DVDs and CDs and can function as a PVR and a set-top box. Moxi's investors, before Vulcan purchased it, included AOL Time Warner, Vulcan, and Scientific-Atlanta. Vulcan also owns Digeo, another hub maker, with which Moxi was merged. Eight of the companies listed-AOL Time Warner, Comcast, Disney, GE, Liberty Media, Sony, Viacom, and Vulcan-were investors in ReplayTV before it was bought by SonicBlue. TiVo, an up-and-coming PVR maker, has attracted hefty investments from almost all major media companies. The most-connected company is AOL Time Warner. Under its umbrella one of its several movie or TV studios can create a film that gets shown on its HBO channel via the Time Warner cable system. Only US business interests are shown here. To clarify the relationship between the figures-of-merit of resonant tunneling diodes and the operating speed of a monostable-bistable transition logic element (MOBILE), we investigated the transient response of a MOBILE using a simple current-voltage characteristics model. We found that an unstable point in a MOBILE affects its operation, and false operation occurs when the amplitude of the clock signal is inappropriate. From a calculation of transient time using peak-to-valley current ratio (PVR) and peak current density (j/sub P/) as parameters, we also discovered that a sufficiently high j/sub P/ and higher PVR (>6) are necessary for high-speed operations.  相似文献

This paper focuses on vehicle to roadside (V2R) communications in vehicular networks based on the IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol. In vehicular networks, roadside units (RSUs) are typically spaced apart along the road and each vehicle can be connected to an RSU only when the vehicle is within its transmission range. Due to the high relative speed between a moving vehicle and a stationary RSU, the residence time of the vehicle within the coverage of each RSU is very short. Thus it is hard for the system to reach a steady state. With multi-hop forwarding, in which a vehicle may be connected to an RSU through relaying over other vehicles, the connection time of each V2R access may be extended. But this is at the expense of introducing wireless interference among vehicles, which may dramatically degrade the system performance. To tackle these challenges, we propose a new mechanism called Proxy-based Vehicle to RSU access (PVR) for V2R communications. This protocol is designed to exploit cooperative and opportunistic forwarding between any two distant RSUs and to emulate back-to-back transmissions within the coverage of an RSU. As a result, it can shorten the access delay by taking advantage of opportunistic forwarding and mitigate the interference problem during the short residence time within the coverage of an RSU. The simulation results show that PVR achieves excellent performance and outperforms all existing solutions for V2R communications in vehicular networks.  相似文献
