In this scientific work, a novel class of antimicrobial nanocomposite hydrogels were designed and synthesized by chemical and environmentally bioprocess using Kolliphor, acrylamide, and mint leafs in order to achieve antiseptic property for wound applications. In the bioprocess approach, silver nitrate and gold chloride were nucleated with mint leafs in order to obtain effective free individual nano‐inorganic compounds to provide superior antibacterial assets. The formations of dual inorganic nanoparticles were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, which indicated the size of nanoparticles in the range of approximately 3 ± 2 nm and without agglomeration. The formations of biomaterials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopic–energy dispersive spectrometric studies and their swelling properties were determined. Furthermore, the pure hydrogel and the dual inorganic nanocomposite hydrogels developed were tested for antibacterial activities. When compared with the neat hydrogel, the nanocomposite hydrogels significantly improved their anti‐bacterial activities on Bacillus bacterium. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this article, thermosensitive poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide‐co‐vinyl pyrrolidone)/chitosan [P(NIPAM‐co‐NVP)/CS] semi‐interpenetrating (semi‐IPN) hydrogels were prepared by redox‐polymerization using N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide as crosslinker and ammonium persulfate/N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine as initiator. Highly stable and uniformly distributed Ag nanoparticles were prepared by using the semihydrogel networks as templates via in situ reduction of silver nitrate in the presence of sodium borohydride as a reducing agent. Introduction of CS improves the hydrogels swelling ratio (SR) and stabilizes the formed Ag nanoparticles in networks. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy revealed that Ag nanoparticles were well dispersed with diameters of 10 nm. The semi‐IPN hydrogel/Ag composites had higher SR and thermal stability than its corresponding semi‐IPN hydrogels. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Different from the conventional method of developing stimuli‐sensitive textiles by graft copolymerization of environmental responsive polymers onto the fabric, the coating technique was applied to bond temperature‐sensitive hydrogels with cotton fabric through chemical covalent in our work. A temperature‐sensitive linear copolymer of Ntert‐butylacrylamide (NTBA) and acrylamide (AAm) was prepared in methanol. Then, the cotton fabrics were coated using an aqueous solution of this copolymer containing 1,2,3,4‐butanetertracarboxylic acid as a crosslinker and sodium hypophosphite (SHP) as a catalyst, followed by drying and curing. The surface of the cotton fabrics was bonded on more or less coatings of poly (NTBA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels, as verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy images. The poly(NTBA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels‐coated fabrics exhibited temperature sensitive, and the temperature interval of the deswelling transition was higher than lower critical solution temperature of linear copolymer solution. The coated fabrics presented good water‐impermeable ability because of the swelling of hydrogels bonded, especially when the add‐on was as high as 14.14%. Environmental scanning electron microscopy images revealed that coating hydrogels swelled and covered on the surface as a barrier to prevent water from penetrating once the coated fabric came into contact with water. The findings demonstrate that the temperature‐sensitive hydrogels can be covalently bonded on the cotton fabrics by coating technique and the coated fabrics have potential on immersion fabrics. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A facile method was explored to synthesize thermosensitive poly[N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM)‐co‐methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC)]/Na2WO4 cationic hydrogels via copolymerization of NIPAM and DMC in the presence of Na2WO4. Na2WO4 acted as both a physical crosslinking agent and a porogen precursor. The hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X‐ray, thermogravimetry, environmental scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Effects of various salt solutions, pH solutions on swelling were investigated. Thermosensitivity of the hydrogels were also investigated in various polar solvents at different temperatures. The resultant hydrogel showed a fast swelling rate and good salt tolerance. The hydrogels reached the swelling equilibrium within 10 min. Moreover, the swelling ratio of the hydrogels increased with the increase of the polarity of the solvent. In the water, the swelling ratio decreased with the increasing of temperature, but remained at a high level even at 80 °C since the pore structure weaken the lower critical solution temperature effect of PNIPAM. The swelling ratio increased instead in low polar solvent, while it became negligible in nonpolar solvent with the increasing of temperature. The whole swelling kinetics was fit for Schott's pseudo‐second order model. The hydrogels have a great potential as catalysts and smart materials. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Nylon 6 nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles (nylon 6/silver) were successfully prepared by electrospinning. The structure and properties of the electrospun fibers were studied with the aid of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. The structural analysis indicated that the fibers electrospun at maximum conditions were straight and that silver nanoparticles were distributed in the fibers. Finally, the antibacterial activities of the nylon 6/silver nanofiber mats were investigated in a broth dilution test against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram‐positive) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (Gram‐negative) bacteria. It was revealed that nylon 6/silver possessed excellent antibacterial properties and an inhibitory effect on the growth of S. aureus and K. pneumoniae. On the contrary, nylon 6 fibers without silver nanoparticles did not show any such antibacterial activity. Therefore, electrospun nylon 6/silver nanocomposites could be used in water filters, wound dressings, or antiadhesion membranes. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OVPS) is used as the crosslinker instead of N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide (BIS) to copolymerize with 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) or DMAEMA and N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) to prepare hybrid hydrogels: P(OVPS‐co‐DMAEMA) and P(OVPS‐co‐DMAEMA‐co‐NIPAM). The prepared hydrogels are transparent and show dual response to temperature and pH. The hydrogels were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile tests. Their mechanical properties, swelling ratio, deswelling and reswelling behaviors as well as drug release properties were investigated. The results indicate that OVPS can be incorporated into polymer networks in proportion to feed ratios. The P(OVPS‐co‐DMAEMA) hydrogel exhibits more homogeneous interior structure, higher swelling ratio and faster response than the conventional hydrogel prepared with BIS. Moreover, the incorporation of OVPS enhances the compression and tensile properties of the hydrogels. The feed ratios of OVPS and NIPAM have a great effect on volume phase transition temperature, thermal sensitivity, swelling behavior, mechanical properties and drug release properties of the hybrid hydrogels. The prepared dual‐responsive OVPS‐containing hydrogels are expected to be used as biomedical materials in drug release and tissue engineering. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

pH‐ and temperature‐responsive semi‐interpenetrating nanocomposite hydrogels (NC hydrogels) were prepared with surface‐functionalized graphene oxide (GO) as the crosslinker, N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) as the monomer, and chitosan (CS) as an additive. The effects of 3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate‐modified GO sheets and CS content on various physical properties were investigated. Results show that PNIPAM/CS/GO hydrogels undergo a large volumetric change in response to temperature. Swelling ratios of PNIPAM/CS/GO hydrogels are much larger than those of the conventional organically crosslinked PNIPAM hydrogels. The deswelling test indicates that the deswelling rate was greatly enhanced by incorporating CS into the hydrogel network and using the surface‐functionalized GO as the crosslinker. The pH‐sensitivity of PNIPAM/CS/GO hydrogels is evident below their volume phase transition temperature. Moreover, the PNIPAM/CS/GO hydrogels have a much better mechanical property compared with traditional hydrogels even in a high water content of 90%. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, we facilely introduce silver nanoparticles into Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid)(Poly(NIPAM‐co‐AA)) microgels and specially focus on the effect of hydrophilic acrylic acid segments on the responsive catalytic performance of silver nanoparticles. The obtained Poly(NIPAM‐co‐AA)/AgNPs composites are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The composites as catalysts are applied to the hydrogenation reaction of p‐nitrophenol and the related conditions such as reaction temperature, concentration of p‐nitrophenol, and the loadings of Ag nanoparticles are studied in detail. NIPAM segments of composites conveniently give silver nanoparticles a controllable characteristic for catalytic reaction by their conformation variation. AA segments of composites not only provide good stability and dispersibility for silver nanoparticles but also favor an easier diffusion of p‐nitrophenol to Ag NPs. POLYM. Hydrogel silver nanocomposites have been used in applications with excellent antibacterial performance. Acrylic acid (AA)/itaconic acid (IA) hydrogels silver nanocomposites were prepared and applied as a coating on a textile substrate. Hydrogel matrices were synthesized first by the polymerization of an AA/IA aqueous (80/20 v/v) solution and mixed with 2‐2‐azobis(2‐methylpropionamide) diclorohydrate and N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide until the hydrogel was formed. Silver nanoparticles were generated throughout the hydrogel networks with an in situ method via the incorporation of the silver ions and subsequent reduction with sodium borohydride. Cotton (C) and cotton/polyester (CP) textile fibers were then coated with these hydrogel silver nanocomposites. The influence of these nanocomposite hydrogels on the properties of the textile fiber were investigated by infrared spectroscopy (attenuated total reflectance), scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, and antibacterial tests against Pseudomona aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The better conditions, in which no serious aggregation of the silver nanoparticles occurred, were determined. It was proven that the textiles coated with hydrogels containing nanosilver had an excellent antibacterial abilities. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibrous mats containing silver nanoparticles were prepared by electrospinning. The diameter of the nanofibers ranged between 100 and 300 nm, as revealed by scanning electron microscopy. The silver nanoparticles were dispersed, but some aggregation was observed with transmission electron microscopy. The content of silver nanoparticles incorporated into the PVDF nanofibrous mats was determined by inductively coupled plasma and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The antibacterial activities of the samples were evaluated with the colony‐counting method against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram‐positive) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (Gram‐negative) bacteria. The results indicate that the PVDF nanofibrous mats containing silver nanoparticles showed good antibacterial activity compared to the PVDF nanofiber control. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (poly(GMA‐co‐EGDMA) macroporous copolymer decorated with silver nanoparticles was prepared by a modification of poly(GMA‐co‐EGDMA) in the reaction with arginine, and consequent reduction of silver ions with amino groups. The mercury intrusion porosimetry, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, UV–vis reflection spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission measurements were used to characterize obtained composite. The coordination of silver nanoparticles to the poly(GMA‐co‐EGDMA) copolymer was studied using infrared spectroscopy. Time dependence and concentration dependence of the antimicrobial efficiency of composite were tested against Gram‐negative bacteria Escherichia coli , Gram‐positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus , and fungus Candida albicans . The composite ensured maximum reduction of both bacteria, while the fungi reduction reached satisfactory 96.8%. Preliminary antimicrobial efficiency measurements using laboratory flow setup indicated potential applicability of composite for wastewater treatment. POLYM. The poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVA–PVP) hydrogels containing silver nanoparticles were prepared by repeated freezing–thawing treatment. The silver content in the solid composition was in the range of 0.1–1.0 wt %, the silver particle size was from 20 to 100 nm, and the weight ratio of PVA to PVP was 70 : 30. The influence of silver nanoparticles on the properties of PVA–PVP matrix was investigated by differential scanning calorimeter, infrared spectroscopy and UV–vis spectroscopy, using PVA–PVP films containing silver particles as a model. The morphology of freeze‐dried PVA–PVP hydrogel matrix and dispersion of the silver nanoparticles in the matrix was examined by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that a three‐dimensional structure was formed during the process of freezing–thawing treatment and no serious aggregation of the silver nanoparticles occurred. Water absorption properties, release of silver ions from the hydrogels and the antibacterial effects of the hydrogels against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were examined too. It was proved that the nanosilver‐containing hydrogels had an excellent antibacterial ability. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 125–133, 2007  相似文献

In this research, the structural features and optimal conditions for the synthesis of an alginate–CuO nanocomposite with the highest antibacterial activity were investigated. CuO nanoparticles (NPs) and the alginate biopolymer were synthesized chemically and biologically, respectively. Nine nanocomposite compounds were produced on the basis of the Taguchi method with different levels of CuO NPs and the alginate biopolymer nanocomposite with different stirring times. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high‐resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed the formation of the nanocomposites. The nanocomposite synthesized with 8 mg/mL copper oxide NPs and 2 mg/mL alginate biopolymer with 60 min of stirring time showed the highest antibacterial activity. The results of two colony forming units and disk‐diffusion methods indicated a stronger antibacterial activity of the alginate–CuO nanocomposite compared with those of its components. The alginate–CuO nanocomposite showed the potential ability to act as an antimicrobial agent against Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive bacteria. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, a new cationic monomer 2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide (IEMA) derived from tryptamine was synthesized in a single step and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR. Then, one‐step preparation of novel poly[2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate‐c‐2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide], or p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA), copolymeric hydrogels has been performed successfully with IEMA and 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) as monomers using free radical aqueous polymerization. The hydrogels were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and texture profile analysis instruments. p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA) hydrogels were used for swelling, diffusion, drug release, and antibacterial activity studies. The drug‐release behavior of the hydrogels was determined as a function of time at 37 °C in pH 1.2 and 7.2. The swelling and drug‐release studies showed that an increased IEMA amount caused a higher increase in swelling and drug‐release values. Additionally, zero‐order, first‐order, and Higuchi equation kinetic models were applied to the drug‐release data, and the data fit well in the Higuchi model, and the Peppas power‐law model was applied to the release mechanism. Finally, the antibacterial activities of the hydrogels were screened against Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are widely used in various fields but their physical and chemical instability have limited their applications. The present work demonstrates a novel approach for the synthesis and stabilising of AgNPs. Chitosan and carboxymethyl β-cyclodextrin were used to prepare a polymeric hydrogel with glutaraldehyde as cross-linker. As a result, AgNPs were formed with very high dispersion and stability in the hydrogel structure. It is possible to create nanoreactors to produce AgNPs by adding CM-βCD to the structure of the hydrogel. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis was employed to characterise the Cs-CM-βCD hydrogel. The morphologies of pure Cs-CM-βCD hydrogel and silver nanocomposite were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, UV–VIS spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to characterise the prepared silver nanocomposite. In addition, the antibacterial properties of these silver nanocomposite hydrogels were investigated against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram negative).  相似文献

This study aims to use the conductivity of a synthetic polymer as the sensing probe for ethanol. In order to enhance the sensitivity of the sensor, a composite of the polymer and nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles was formed as it improved the conductivity. This composite exhibited 100 times more conductivity than the neat polymer. The semiconductive nanocomposite of poly [N1,N4bis(thiophen‐2‐ylmethylene)benzene‐1,4‐diamine]‐nickel oxide (PBTMBDA‐NiO) was prepared by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization. The monomer was N1,N4bis(thiophen‐2‐ylmethylene)benzene‐1,4‐diamine (BTMBDA). The monomer (BTMBDA), polymer (PBTMBDA), and NiO nanoparticles used in this study were synthesized. The monomer was prepared by refluxing together 2‐thiophene carboxaldehyde, benzene‐1,4‐diamine, and few drops of glacial acetic acid in ethanol medium for 3 h. The polymer, PBTMBDA, was formed by the chemical oxidative polymerization of BTMBDA in chloroform by FeCl3. NiO nanoparticles were prepared by slow addition of aqueous ammonia to anhydrous nickel chloride at room temperature (28 ± 2 °C), and at a pH of 8 under constant stirring condition. The composite was formed by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of BTMBDA in chloroform by FeCl3 in the presence of the dispersed NiO nanoparticles. The molecular structure of BTMBDA and PBTMBDA were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (1H, 13C, and Dept‐90°), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet (UV)–visible spectroscopy. The PBTMBDA and PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy analysis. The results of characterization studies indicate the strong interaction between PBTMBDA and NiO in the nanocomposite. The broadness of 1H NMR peaks in PBTMBDA was due to the increased number of monomer units. The disappearance of the peak of α‐hydrogens on thiophene confirms the polymerization involving the fifth position of thiophene part of BTMBDA. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra revealed that position of the characteristic peaks of the functional groups in the monomer shifted toward lower wave numbers in PBTMBDA and PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite. This shifting confirms the presence of extended conjugation along the polymer backbone. Electronic spectra of these compounds showed three absorption bands corresponding to π→π*, n→π* and n→π* transitions of π electron of carbon, lone pair electrons of S, and lone pair electrons of N (imine) groups, respectively. From the Tafel plot, the exchange current density evaluated for the BTMBDA and PBTMBDA are 0.2815 × 10−8 and 1.1508 × 10−8 A cm−2, respectively. PBTMBDA is evaluated to be a better electrode material than the BTMBDA. The X‐ray diffraction plots showed that the characteristic peak of NiO in PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite suggested successful incorporation of NiO in PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite. The thermogravimetric analysis revealed the improved thermal stability of the composite. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of the NiO in the composite. Incorporation of nickel oxide nanoparticles improved the electrical conductivity and stability of PBTMBDA. The conductivity of the polymer was found to be of the order of 10−5 S cm−1 while that of the composite was of the order of 10−3 S cm−1. The nanocomposite was found to be thermally more stable than PBTMBDA and exhibited better direct‐current electrical conductivity and isothermal stability than the PBTMBDA as revealed by the four‐probe study. The electrical conductivity as inferred from the four‐probe method was used as the parameter to study the isothermal stability of the composite. The PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite based vapor sensor was constructed for the sensing of ethanol vapor in commercial ethanol and real samples (alcoholic drinks: Beer, Wine, Brandy, Vodka, Whisky, and Rum) It was observed that on exposure to ethanol vapor at ambient temperature, the electrical resistivity of the nanocomposite increased indicating suppression of charge carriers. The interaction of ethanol vapor with PBTMBDA in PBTMBDA‐NiO nanocomposite was confirmed by IR spectral technique. The change in the structure of the PBTMBDA on interaction with ethanol was highlighted by the changes in the infrared spectrum. The conductivity of the polymer was explained using the structure‐activity relationship of the monomer evaluated using Gaussian 09 software. This study also analyzed the total electron density with electrostatic potential of the monomer and its correlation with chemical reactivity in order to explain the ethanol vapor sensing‐property of the nanocomposite. A new method of ethanol vapor sensing by a conducting polymer composite is hereby reported. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2018 , 135, 45918.  相似文献

pH‐ and temperature‐responsive interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels based on soy protein and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐sodium acrylate) were successfully prepared. The structure and properties of the hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analyzer. The equilibrium and dynamic swelling/deswelling behaviors and the drug release properties of the hydrogels responding to pH and/or temperature were also studied in detail. The hydrogels have the porous honeycomb structures, good miscibility and thermal stability, and good pH‐ and temperature‐responsivity. The volume phase transition temperature of the hydrogels is ca. 40°C. Changing the soy protein or crosslinker content could be used to control the swelling behavior and water retention, and the hydrogels have the fastest deswelling rate in pH 1.2 buffer solutions at 45°C. Bovine serum albumin release from the hydrogels has the good pH and temperature dependence. The results show that the proposed IPN hydrogels may have potential applications in the field of biomedical materials such as in drug delivery systems. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The bactericidal action of silver nanoparticles has been observed by many researchers since few years. In this study, we have developed an antibacterial ceramics (ACs) by absorbing synthesized silver nanoparticles within the ceramic matrix developed by us from an abundantly available coal fly ash, an extremely hazardous by‐product of thermal power plants. Nanoparticles dispersions of different particle sizes were made absorbed in to the ceramic matrix to evaluate its bactericidal activity against both Staphylococcus aureus (Gram‐positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram‐negative) bacteria, taken as the model microorganisms. This study showed that the total bactericidal action of ACs depends on the size of absorbed nanoparticles and the content of nanoparticles in the dispersions within the ceramic matrix. ACs thus developed release very slowly a minute amount of nanoparticles and show strong and prolonged bactericidal activity against pathogenic strain of both types of bacteria. The concentration of prepared nanoparticles in dispersion and the concentration of released nanoparticles in aqueous medium from the absorbed ceramic matrix were measured using inductively coupled plasma spectrophotometer. The mechanism of the antibacterial action was also studied using transmission electron microscopy image analysis of the bacterial cross‐section of both types of bacteria.  相似文献

The key objective of developing novel materials for hygienic living conditions is to lower the risk of transmitting diseases and biofouling. To this end, a number of silver–hydrogel nanocomposite systems are under development. In this study, we attempted a unique strategy to prepare silver‐nanoparticle‐loaded poly(acrylamide‐coN‐vinyl‐2‐pyrolidone) hydrogel composites. To load nanosilver particles into such a nonionic hydrogel, a novel breathing‐in/breathing‐out (BI–BO) approach was employed. As the number of BI–BO cycles increased, the amount of the silver nanoparticles loaded into these hydrogels also increased. This behavior was obvious and was confirmed by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Furthermore, the hydrogel–silver‐nanoparticle composites were confirmed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy studies. Antibacterial studies of these hydrogel–silver nanocomposites showed excellent results against Escherichia coli. The antibacterial activity increased with the number of BI–BO cycles, and samples that underwent three BI–BO cycles showed optimal bactericidal activity. The degree of crosslinking and the silver content had a great influence on the antibacterial efficacy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

A novel series of temperature‐sensitive poly[(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐co‐(ethyl methacrylate)] (p(NIPAM‐co‐EMA)) microgels was prepared by the surfactant‐free radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) with ethyl methacrylate (EMA). The shape, size dispersity and volume‐phase transition behavior of the microgels were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The transmission electron micrographs and DLS results showed that microgels with narrow distributions were prepared. It was shown from UV–Vis, DLS and DSC measurements that the volume‐phase transition temperature (VPTT) of the p(NIPAM‐co‐EMA) microgels decreased with increasing incorporation of EMA, but the temperature‐sensitivity was impaired when more EMA was incorporated, causing the volume‐phase transition of the microgels to become more continuous. It is noteworthy that incorporation of moderate amounts of EMA could not only lower the VPTT but also enhance the temperature‐sensitivity of the microgels. The reason for this phenomenon could be attributed to changes in the complicated interactions between the various molecules. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
