A short-pulse 1.444-μm laser based on Nd:YAG technology has been demonstrated. The 1.444-μm is eye-safe. With the cavity-dump technique, a pulse of 50 m× and 14 ns was obtained. The beam quality was excellent with an M2 of 1.6 by the use of a telescopic resonator. Neodynium doped calcium lanthanum silicate oxyapatite (Nd:CaLaSOAP) has properties intermediate between Nd:YAG and Nd:glass that make it desirable for use as a pulsed-mode-locked oscillator at 1.06 μ. Time resolve spectroscopy, high speed image converter streak recordings, and two-photon fluorescence pulse duration measurements were used to investigate the output of such a laser. We describe a novel photonic oscillator that converts continuous-light energy into stable and spectrally pure microwave signals. This optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) consists of a pump laser and a feedback circuit including an intensity modulator, an optical-fiber delay line, a photodetector an amplifier, and a filter. We present the results of a quasi-linear theory for describing the properties of the oscillator and their experimental verifications. Our findings indicate that the OEO can generate ultrastable, spectrally pure microwave-reference signals up to 75 GHz with a phase noise lower than -140 dBc/Hz at 10 KHz. We show that the OEO is a special voltage-controlled oscillator with an optical-output port and can be synchronized to a reference source by means of optical injection locking, electrical injection locking, and a phase-locked loop. A simple three-mirror resonator is considered for longitudinal mode control in a passivelyQ -switched Nd:YAG laser. This configuration provides temporally smooth output pulses with duration determined by dye concentration and continuously variable from 300 to 10 ns. The performance of a flashlamp-pumped fibre-bundle laser passively Q-switched by a Cr4+:YAG crystal is reported. Simultaneous passive Q-switching of 250 highly Nd-doped multimode phosphate glass fibres delivers pulses with 35 ns duration at a rate of 20 kHz. 重复频率激光放大器在重频工作条件下,激光增益介质的温度升高会影响其放大能力,其内部的温度梯度会影响激光光束的光学质量,甚至会发生激光增益介质的热破坏。对国产抗热冲击钕玻璃棒工作在一定频率下的温度分布和波前畸变进行了数值分析,讨论了国产抗热冲击型钕玻璃棒在重频下的工作性能并进行了实验验证。理论和实验结果表明:在1800J的氙灯泵浦能量条件下,Φ16mm×216 mm的钕玻璃棒(掺杂0.5%)在0.1 Hz工作条件下,钕玻璃棒在3 min左右就可达到热平衡,其波前畸变量为0.5λ;在400 mJ(5 ns)的注入能量条件下,其输出能量为1.2 J。 相似文献

CW (continuous-wave) operation of end-pumped four-level glass lasers is modeled to obtain expressions for threshold, slope efficiency, and figures of merit. The thermal effects ultimately limiting performance in these lasers is also discussed. Basic design consideration for optimum performance of an end-pumped CW Nd:glass laser intended for mode locking are presented. On the basis of these investigations, a CW Nd:glass laser containing a heavily doped thin phosphate glass plate as the gain material has been built. The plate was inserted into a folded cavity and pumped longitudinally by a Kr laser at 0.8 μm. With 2.5% output coupling the pump threshold and the slope efficiency well above threshold were measured to be 10.5 mW and 36%, respectively. These values agree reasonably with theoretical predictions. Experimental confirmation of the predicted thermal limiting effects are also obtained 相似文献

An electrooptic, actively mode-locked Nd: phosphate glass laser system is described employing a novel single-step feedback system to stabilize the pulse buildup time. Single output pulses of ∼100 ps duration with energies of up to 1 mJ could be reliably generated with a standard deviation in thesim3.2 mu s pulse buildup time of ±40 ns allowing synchronization with pulses from laser systems at other wavelengths. Evidence of pulse broading due to self-phase modulation was observed together with wide tunability of the output wavelength from 1.054 to 1.068 μm. 相似文献
