RSVP extensions for real-time services in wireless mobile networks   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Currently, the RSVP model, which is efficient resource reservation in the fixed endpoints, becomes invalid under host mobility. We investigate the problems of standard RSVP in providing real-time services in wireless mobile networks. We also observe carefully how to interoperate IntServ services over DiffServ networks, and how to map IntServ QoS parameters into a wireless link. We then identify the advantages and drawbacks of the existing RSVP proposals to support QoS under both micromobility and macromobility. We finally propose a dynamic resource allocation scheme for reducing service disruption of real-time applications due to frequent mobility of a host  相似文献

In this article we propose a cross-layer approach to investigate the impact of the physical-layer infrastructure on the data-link-layer QoS performance in mobile wireless networks. At the physical layer, we take the MIMO diversity schemes as well its AMC into account. At the data-link layer, our focus is on how this physical-layer infrastructure influences the real-time multimedia QoS provisioning performance such as delay-bound violation and buffer-overflow probabilities. To achieve this goal, we first model the physical-layer service process as a finite state Markov chain. Based on this FSMC model, we then characterize the QoS performance at the data-link layer using the effective capacity approach, which turns out to be critically important for the statistical QoS guarantees in mobile wireless networks. The numerical and simulation results obtained demonstrate that the proposed cross-layer model can efficiently characterize the interaction between the physical layer infrastructure and upper layer protocols' QoS provisioning performance.  相似文献

This article proposes iGSM: a voice-over-IP value-added service for the mobile network. The iGSM service provides user mobility to subscribers, which allows them to use either GSM handsets or H.323 terminals (IP phones or PCs) to access telecommunications services. We describe how the iGSM registration, deregistration, and call delivery procedures can be implemented without modifying the GSM network. Integration of 3G and wireless LAN (WLAN) becomes a trend in current and future wireless networks, and brings many benefits to both end users and service providers. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey on integration of 3G and WLAN. We discuss issues such as underline network architectures, integrated architectures, mobility management, and quality of service (QoS). The proposals for quality of service in mobile ad hoc networks have focused on adding QoS mechanisms in best-effort routing protocols while keeping the same assumptions regarding both the network representation and the routing protocol design. Most of the solutions concentrate the algorithmic effort on QoS route computation and relax the constraint of optimizing flooding, which has, however, a great impact on resource consumption. The goal of this paper is to present guidelines that allow the design of efficient solutions accurately presented and easily comparable with each other. We first define the QoS metric as an abstraction that can be instantiated for any kind of metric, and we propose a MANET representation that integrates this abstraction into the definition of the network graph and properties. Using these concepts, while flooding optimization and QoS-aware MPR selection have usually been performed separately, we then propose a formalism that unifies MPR selection in such a way that both objectives are achieved simultaneously in a single selection. Finally, we propose a heuristic that provides an efficient solution for this problem while allowing us to control the trade-off between both objectives. Evaluations carried out on network graphs considering different spatial distributions of nodes show that our heuristic outperforms existing heuristics.  相似文献

MMWN is a modular system of adaptive link- and network-layer algorithms that provides a foundation on which to build mechanisms for quality-of-service provision in large, multihop mobile wireless networks. Such networks are a practical means for creating a communications infrastructure where none yet exists or where the previously existing infrastructure has been severely damaged. These networks provide communications for such diverse purposes as tactical maneuvering and strategic planning on the battlefield, emergency relief in an area afflicted by a natural disaster, and field studies conducted by a team of scientists in a remote location. In this paper, we describe three key components of the MMWN system: the clustering procedures for defining a virtual, hierarchical control structure superimposed on a large network of mobile switches and endpoints; the location management procedures for determining the current locations of mobile endpoints relative to the hierarchical control structure; and the virtual circuit management procedures for setting up and repairing virtual circuits as switches and endpoints move. We also provide simulation results that illustrate the robustness of each of these components with respect to a broad spectrum of transmission ranges and relative mobility of switches and endpoints. This paper studies a density driven virtual topography based publish/subscribe service for mobile ad hoc networks. Two variants of the service are presented and evaluated by extensive simulations; the first is very communication frugal while the latter trades a higher message overhead for faster latency. Both variants are also being compared to two other representative approaches for publish/subscribe in ad hoc networks, a dissemination tree based scheme and an efficient flooding based scheme. It is shown that the density-driven approach outperforms the others in most tested scenarios.  相似文献

Wireless mobile ad hoc networks consist of mobile nodes interconnected by wireless multi‐hop communication paths. Unlike conventional wireless networks, ad hoc networks have no fixed network infrastructure or administrative support.     This paper presents a model based on Queueing Theory for Orthogonal Frequency‐Division Multiplexing–Time‐Division Multiple Access (OFDM–TDMA) networks. This network model requires a Markovian model to the traffic processes. Thus, we present a Markov Modulated Fluid Model (MMFM) with autocorrelation function fitting for the network traffic, in order to evaluate the performance of the transmission link in OFDM–TDMA systems. That is, we deduce equations for estimating QoS parameters of OFDM–TDMA systems. The obtained results confirm that the proposed network model is efficient in describing the OFDM based link performance. A novel equation is also introduced for estimating the buffer overflow probability in OFDM–TDMA systems using a proposed network service curve. The computational effort is reduced compared to the Queueing Theory based method of overflow probability estimation. Besides, the results show that the estimates are very close to those obtained by simulations.  相似文献

    In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), a mobile sink can help eliminate the hotspot effect in the vicinity of the sink, which can balance the traffic load in the network and thus improve the network performance. Location‐based routing is an effective routing paradigm for supporting sink mobility in WSNs with mobile sinks (mWSNs). To support efficient location‐based routing, scalable location service must be provided to advertise the location information of mobile sinks in an mWSN. In this paper, we propose a new hierarchical location service for supporting location‐based routing in mWSNs. The proposed location service divides an mWSN into a grid structure and exploits the characteristics of static sensors and mobile sinks in selecting location servers. It can build, maintain, and update the grid‐spaced network structure via a simple hashing function. To reduce the location update cost, a hierarchy structure is built by choosing a subset of location servers in the network to store the location information of mobile sinks. The simulation results show that the proposed location service can significantly reduce the communication overhead caused by sink mobility while maintaining high routing performance, and scales well in terms of network size and sink number.     IP telephony over mobile ad hoc networks is a topic of emerging interest in the research arena as one of the paths toward the fixed-mobile convergence in telecommunications networks. To investigate the performance characteristics of this service, we propose a complete system architecture, which includes a MAC protocol, a routing protocol, and the treatment of voice packets. The telephone system is analyzed in the case of point-to-point calls inside the ad hoc network, and the end-to-end performance is assessed in terms of the percentage of blocked and dropped calls, packet loss and packet delay. The analysis takes into account network scalability by investigating how; the size of the multihop ad hoc network impacts the quality of service. Moreover, the synthetic mean opinion score of the telephone service is evaluated according to the ITU-T E-model.  相似文献

    Wireless ad hoc networks are growing important because of their mobility, versatility, and ability to work with fewer infrastructures. The mobile ad hoc network is an autonomous system consisting of mobile nodes connected with wireless links. Establishing a path between two nodes is a complex task in wireless networks. It is still more complex in the wireless mobile ad hoc network because every node is no longer as an end node and an intermediate node. In this paper, it focuses on design of connectionless routing protocol for the wireless ad hoc networks based on the mobile agent concept. The proposed model tries to discover the best path taking into consideration some concerns like bandwidth, reliability, and congestion of the link. The proposed model has been simulated and tested under various wireless ad hoc network environments with the help of a different number of nodes. The results demonstrate that the proposed model is more feasible for providing reliable paths between the source and destination with the minimum control message packets over the network.     The practical success of pervasive services running in mobile wireless networks relies largely on its flexibility in providing adaptive and cost‐effective services. Service discovery is an essential mechanism to achieve this goal. As an enhancement to our previous work for service discovery, that is, model‐based service discovery (MBSD), this paper proposes a location‐based service advertisement (SA) algorithm named as MBSD‐sa. MBSD‐sa advocates the importance of service location to the service availability and integrates the service location information together with the service semantic information into service information for advertisement. MBSD‐sa utilizes prediction to estimate the service location so as to reduce the number of SA messages (SAMs). Two complementary types of SA mechanisms (Types 1 and 2) are employed by MBSD‐sa to strike the balance between the SAM overhead and the accuracy of service information.
