Cellulose acetate (CA) is a bio-based polymeric material suitable to replace foamed polystyrene (PS) boards in applications for building insulation. Foam boards can be produced by extrusion foaming with physical blowing agents. In addition, the high heat deflection temperature and good mechanical properties (e.g., tensile and compression strength) of CA make it suitable for the injection molding of technical parts. In general, flame retardancy of foamed products is often required in building or electronic applications. This article presents the effects of various flame retardant (FR) additives, process settings, and the calibration of the foam board on flammability, foam morphology, and mechanical properties of extruded CA boards. Different formulations of FR additives and foaming agents were investigated regarding density and morphology of the foamed boards. Furthermore, investigations on foam behavior for foam injection molding with physical blowing agents were conducted. This study presents an experimental essay on the production of thermoplastic polyurethanes for flexographic printing ink applications. Four formulations were obtained by step-growth polymerization reactions having the pre-polymer 4,4′-diphenylmethylene diisocyanate and Voranol 2120 L® catalyzed by dibutyltin dilaurate as common ground. In the chain extension step, ethanol or ethyl acetate was used as solvent, and the use or not of castor oil as a chain extender in addition to hexanedioic acid and 2,2′-oxydi(ethan-1-ol) was evaluated. The chemical structures of the synthesized thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and rheological features were assessed by density and viscosity analysis. The TPU resins were used to produce flexographic printing inks and further tested by friction, adhesion, gloss, and Gardner viscosity essays. It was found that the castor oil presence enhanced ink viscosity in 66% (from 26,790 to 44,440 Pa s) as well as improved strength. Formulations using ethanol as solvent showed the best results. The experiments were carried in a 250 ml reactor and then, scaled up to 2000 ml, keeping the power transfer per unit of volume constant at around 0.8 W/L. The analytical results from the larger scale were as good as the obtained in scale one, showing promising application. 相似文献

The presented study investigates the flow length and the corresponding fiber content distribution in the injection‐moulded natural fiber reinforced thermoplastics and its relation to fiber type and processing parameters such as injection pressure, temperature, injection rate and mould tempering by increasing die temperature. In this research, polypropylene compounds with nominally 30 wt % hemp and sisal fibers are investigated. The influence of the injection pressure (500 and 1000 bar), melt temperature (180°C, 200°C, and 220°C), and die temperature (23°C and 80°C) on the fiber content distribution all over the sample is investigated. An increasing linear trend of fiber content along the spiral length is observed as an evidence of a fiber/polymer multiflow system. A pattern for fiber content distribution with respect to the fiber length along the injected spiral can be distinguished, where the longer fibers are usually found at the end of the injected part and the shorter fibers remain near mould entrance point. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In order to deepen the mechanisms at the basis of mold surface replication onto the molded plastic surface, a novel experimental approach is proposed. Up to 20 different mold surface textures were made by machining with repetitive patterns of peaks and valleys. Mold replication tests were performed by over-molding of high density polyethylene (HDPE) on steel inserts. The surface morphology of inserts and injection molded parts was acquired by surface analyzer, and all the main roughness parameters were extracted and compared as well as the geometrical profiles. Surface morphology was also measured on molded samples after thermal relaxation at 100°C. As expected, a strong correlation was found between the roughness of mold insert and molded part over the full experimented range. Profiles on the molded surface have the same repetitive pattern of the corresponding insert surface but with lower peaks, higher valleys, and a horizontal shrinkage. Comparing molded HDPE surface profiles before and after thermal relaxation, it was observed a similar change to the one highlighted between mold insert and molded part. This occurrence suggests that the final surface appearance of the molded part is also a function of the relaxation mechanism during or immediately after injection molding. 相似文献

A semicrystalline copolyimide derived from 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (s‐BPDA), 1,3‐bis‐(4‐aminophenoxy)benzene (TPER), and 4,4′‐oxydianiline (4,4′‐ODA), end capped with phthalic anhydride (PA), was synthesized. Glass fiber reinforced composite was also prepared by impregnating powdery glass fiber with poly(amic acid) followed by solution imidization techniques. This copolyimide displayed a glass transition temperature of 202°C and a melting temperature of 373°C by differential scanning colorimeter (DSC). Crystallization and melting behaviors were investigated under nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization conditions. Double exothermic peaks were found by DSC when the copolyimide was cooled from the melt and multiple melting behaviors can be observed after the coployimide had been isothermally crystallized at different temperatures. Mechanical properties were investigated by dynamical mechanical analysis (DMA) and tensile experiments. The samples were cured at different temperatures and then tested at different temperatures. Results indicated that the copolyimide and the composite showed excellent mechanical properties. The recycling of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber remains a challenge, as its cross-linked structure cannot be broken down reversibly. Devulcanization may offer a breakthrough; however, a 100% decrease in cross-link density (CLD) with no chain degradation has never been reported. In this research, sulfur- and peroxide-cured EPDM rubbers of known compositions were devulcanized on a two-roll mill and in an internal mixer. The CLD of both rubber samples decreased by around 85%, while the sol content of the peroxidic devulcanizate was considerably higher than that of the sulfuric devulcanizate (23% vs. 3%). Horikx's theory revealed that sulfur-cured samples showed excellent selectivity for cross-link scission, while peroxide-cured samples suffered degradation. Uncured, cured, and devulcanized rubber samples were mixed into high-density polyethylene at various compositions. Large EPDM rubber contents impaired the mechanical properties of the blends, indicating insufficient adhesion between the two phases. Compounds containing originally uncured rubber mixtures had the most beneficial mechanical properties. 相似文献
