In a wireless system that supports multimedia services, each traffic requires different quality of service (QoS) at both communication on radio links and connection admission. We initially derive the uplink capacity satisfying the QoS constraint on radio links in a multiclass multicode code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system. Based on the derived capacity, the number of channel elements, which is one of the system resources, is determined. Then, we define the QoS parameters associated with connection processes. To guarantee the defined QoS at the connection level, under given channel elements, we propose a channel-assignment scheme with dynamic priority adjustment (DPA). The proposed scheme gives multipriority to different traffic classes. Real-time classes can preempt non-real-time classes with restricted preemptive priority. Such restriction is regulated by preemption-free code channels and a buffer threshold for non-real-time classes. Among real-time classes, different priorities are assigned to each traffic class by code reservation parameters. These multipriority parameters are dynamically adjusted in order to guarantee different QoS requirements. We analyze the DPA scheme by the matrix-geometric method, and evaluate the performance of each traffic class. The results show that the proposed scheme flexibly guarantees QoS depending on traffic loading condition and achieves high channel utilization. 相似文献

A class of dynamic fair scheduling schemes based on the generalized processor sharing (GPS) fair service discipline, under the generic name code-division GPS (CDGPS), is proposed for a wideband direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (CDMA) cellular network to support multimedia traffic. The CDGPS scheduler makes use of both the traffic characteristics in the link layer and the adaptivity of the wideband CDMA physical layer to perform fair scheduling on a time-slot by time-slot basis, by using a dynamic rate-scheduling approach rather than the conventional time-scheduling approach. Soft uplink capacity is characterized for designing an efficient CDGPS resource allocation procedure. A credit-based CDGPS (C-CDGPS) scheme is proposed to further improve the utilization of the soft capacity by trading off the short-term fairness. Theoretical analysis shows that, with the C-CDGPS scheme, tight delay bounds can be provided to delay-sensitive traffic, and short-term unfairness can be bounded so that long-term weighted fairness for all users can still be satisfied. Simulation results show that bounded delays, increased throughput, and long-term fairness can be achieved for both homogeneous and heterogeneous traffic. 相似文献

A novel radio resource management (RRM) scheme for the support of packet-switched transmission in cellular CDMA systems is proposed by jointly considering the physical, link, and network layer characteristics. The proposed resource management scheme is comprised of a combination of power distribution, rate allocation, service scheduling, and connection admission control. Power distribution allows individual connections to achieve their required signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio, while rate allocation guarantees the required delay/jitter for real-time traffic and the minimum transmission rate requirement for non-real-time traffic. Efficient rate allocation is achieved by making use of the randomness and burstiness; of the packet generation process. At the link layer, a packet scheduling scheme is developed based on information derived from power distribution and rate allocation to achieve quality of service (QoS) guarantee. Packet scheduling efficiently utilizes the system resources in every time slot and improves the packet throughput for non-real-time traffic. At the network layer, a connection admission control (CAC) scheme based on the lower layer resource allocation information is proposed. The CAC scheme makes use of user mobility information to reduce handoff connection dropping probability (HCDP). Theoretical analysis of the grade of service performance, in terms of new connection blocking probability, HCDP, and resource utilization, is given. In this letter, we address the problem of resource allocation with efficiency and quality of service (QoS) support in uplink for a wireless CDMA network supporting real‐time (RT) and non‐realtime (NRT) communication services. For RT and NRT users, there are different QoS requirements. We introduce and describe a new scheme, namely, traffic aided uplink opportunistic scheduling (TAUOS). While guaranteeing the different QoS requirements, TAUOS exploits the channel condition to improve system throughput. In TAUOS, the cross‐layer information, file size information, is used to improve fairness for NRT users. Extensive simulation results show that our scheme can achieve high system throughput in uplink wireless CDMA systems, while guaranteeing QoS requirements. 相似文献

In this letter, a joint transmit scheduling and dynamic sub-carrier and power allocation method is proposed to exploit multi-user diversity in downlink packet transmission in an OFDM wireless network with mixed real-time and non-real-time traffic patterns. To balance efficiency and fairness and to satisfy the QoS requirements of real-time users, we utilize a utility-based framework and propose a polynomial-time heuristic algorithm to solve the formulated optimization problem. The distinguishing feature of the proposed method is that it gives in one shot, the transmission scheduling, the sub-carriers assigned to each user, and the power allocated to each sub-carrier, based on a fair and efficient framework while satisfying the delay requirements of real-time users. 相似文献

We present a novel integrated analytical framework for analyzing the quality-of-service (QoS) performance measures in a wireless mobile multimedia network. The framework integrates physical, radio link, and network layer parameters and protocols to analyze the call-level and packet-level performances. In the network layer, call admission control (CAC) is responsible for deciding whether an incoming call can be accepted or not so that the performances of the ongoing calls do not deteriorate below the acceptable level. Also, an adaptive channel allocation (ACA) scheme is used to maximize the utilization of the radio resources. In the data link layer, queue management and error control are used for non-real-time loss-sensitive traffic. In the physical layer, a finite state Markov channel (FSMC) is used to model channel fading, and adaptive modulation is used for rate adaptation according to channel quality. Various call-level and packet-level QoS measures for real-time, non-real-time, and best-effort traffic are obtained. The analytical results are validated by extensive simulations. Subscriber stations located in different places encounter various interferences in an IEEE 802.16 network, resulting in that their communication channels experience varying channel conditions. Thus, an excellent bandwidth allocation algorithm should not only satisfy various QoS required by heterogeneous traffic, but also consider the channel quality to maximize bandwidth utilization. In this paper, a bandwidth allocation algorithm with channel quality awareness and QoS guarantee, called CQQ, is proposed. CQQ not only satisfies each connection's QoS requirement, but also dynamically adjusts the downlink/uplink bandwidth to match current downlink/uplink traffic ratio. CQQ allocates more bandwidth to the connections having better channel quality by applying weighted fair queuing strategy to raise the bandwidth usage. We propose a linear programming resource reduction (LP-RR) principle for admission control by maintaining QoS guarantees to existing applications and to increase the percentage of admission to hand-off and new applications. Artificial neural networks are used to solve the linear programming problem, which facilitates in real time admission control decision in the practical systems. We present an analytical model and results for the proposed AC scheme with resource reduction principle and a simulation study of the AC for performance evaluation. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed AC scheme performs well in terms of increasing the number of admitted applications and maintains higher percentage of resource utilization. The emerging broadband wireless access technology based on IEEE 802.16 is one of the most promising solutions to provide ubiquitous wireless access to the broadband service at low cost. This paper proposes an efficient uplink bandwidth request-allocation algorithm for real-time services in Mobile WiMAX networks based on IEEE 802.16e. In order to minimize bandwidth wastage without degrading quality of service (QoS), we introduce a notion of target delay and propose dual feedback architecture. The proposed algorithm calculates the amount of bandwidth request such that the delay is regulated around the desired level to minimize delay violation and delay jitter for real-time services. Also, it can increase utilization of wireless channel by making use of dual feedback, where the bandwidth request is adjusted based on the information about the backlogged amount of traffic in the queue and the rate mismatch between packet arrival and service rates. Due to the target delay and dual feedback, the proposed scheme can control delay and allocate bandwidth efficiently while satisfying QoS requirement. The stability of the proposed algorithm is analyzed from a control-theoretic viewpoint, and a simple design guideline is derived based on this analysis. By implementing the algorithm in OPNET simulator, its performance is evaluated in terms of queue regulation, optimal bandwidth allocation, delay controllability, and robustness to traffic characteristics. 相似文献

In this paper, the utilization of real-time video service in the downlink of an orthogonal variable spreading factor code division multiple access (OVSF-CDMA) system is studied. By modeling the video traffic and wireless channel as a joint Markov modulated process, and properly partitioning the states of the Markov process, an adaptive rate allocation scheme is proposed for real-time video transmission with quality of service provisioning while achieving high channel utilization. The scheme is applicable for packet switching and frame-by-frame real-time video transmission, and incorporates both the physical layer and network layer characteristics. For QoS provisions, the closed form expressions of packet delay and loss probability are derived based on the Markov model. Analytical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the channel utilization over the commonly used effective bandwidth approach. 相似文献

In IEEE 802.16 networks, a subscriber station (SS) could be a single mobile user, a residence house, or an office building providing Internet service for multiple customers. Considering the heterogeneity among SSs which have diverse traffic demands, in this paper, we introduce the weighted proportional fair (WPF) scheduling scheme for the Best Effort (BE) service in IEEE 802.16 networks to achieve the flexible and efficient resource allocation. We develop an analytical model to investigate the performance of WPF in terms of spectral efficiency, throughput, resource utilization, and fairness, where the Rayleigh fading channel and the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) technique are considered. The uplink access control problems for cellular code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems that service heterogeneous traffic with various types of quality-of-service (QoS) and use multicode CDMA to support variable bit rates are addressed. Considering its distinct QoS requirements, class-I real-time traffic (e.g., voice and video) is differentiated from class-II non-real-time traffic (e.g., data). Connection-oriented transmission is achieved by assigning mobile-oriented code channels for class-I traffic, where each corresponding mobile needs to pass an admission test. Class-II traffic is transmitted in a best-effort manner through a transmission-rate request access scheme which utilizes the bandwidth left unused by class-I traffic. Whenever a mobile has class-II messages to transmit, the mobile requests code channels via a base station-oriented transmission-request code channel, then, according to the base station scheduling, the transmission is scheduled and permitted. Addressed are the admission test for class-I connections, transmission power allocation, and how to maximize the aggregate throughput for class-II traffic. The admission region of voice and video connections and the optimum target signal-to-interference ratio of class-II traffic are derived numerically.
