The behaviour of hollow and concrete filled thin-walled steel tubular members subjected to transverse impact was previously investigated experimentally and theoretically. The members were restrained axially and rotationally at their ends. In this paper the study is extended to investigate nominally identically sized stainless steel tubes, tested experimentally under the same conditions. Comparisons between the performance of the two materials are made. Both the steel and stainless steel tubular members, hollow and concrete filled, are then modelled numerically. The FE models are validated against the experiments, and subsequently extended to investigate the general behaviour of such members when used as columns or other axially load bearing structures. The influences of axial pre-load, rotational restraint at the member ends, axial restraint, metal material properties and concrete filling, are investigated. In particular, their effect on the capacity of the members to absorb transverse impact energy. A general design procedure for metal tubular members with or without concrete filling subjected to transverse impact is developed, in a format aligned with current static structural steel specifications.  相似文献

A concrete filled elliptical/oval steel tubular (CFEST) member consists of elliptical/oval steel tube and in-filled concrete. The CFEST member is a new type of steel–concrete composite member and is part of a family of concrete filled steel tubular members known as CFT. The present study aims to investigate, experimentally, the characteristics of CFEST stub columns under centric loading. The main test parameters selected are diameter-to-thickness and diameters ratios of elliptical/oval steel tube. From the results, local buckling of the elliptical/oval steel tube associated with shear failure of in-filled concrete could be observed. Axial loading capacity decreased as diameter-to-thickness ratio increased. Whereas, those capacities normalized by the summation of the individual strengths, namely the elliptical/oval steel tube and in-filled concrete strengths, are regulated in case the diameter-to-thickness ratio becomes larger. Finally, a method to predict the axial loading capacity induced by confinement effects of the in-filled concrete is proposed.  相似文献

Fire behaviour of concrete filled elliptical steel columns   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this work, a non-linear three-dimensional finite element model is presented in order to study the behaviour of axially loaded concrete filled elliptical hollow section (CFEHS) columns exposed to fire. This study builds on previous work carried out by the authors on concrete filled circular hollow section (CFCHS) columns both at room temperature and in fire. The numerical model is first validated at room temperature against a series of experiments on CFEHS stub columns available in the literature and subsequently extended to study the performance of slender columns at elevated temperatures. The aim of this work is to understand and represent the behaviour of axially loaded CFEHS columns in fire situations and to compare their effectiveness with that of the circular concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns. Parametric studies to explore the influence of variation in global member slenderness, load level, cross-section slenderness and section size are presented. Finally, guidance on the fire design of CFEHS columns is proposed: it is recommended to follow the guidelines of Clause 4.3.5.1 in EN 1994-1-2, but employing the flexural stiffness reduction coefficients established in the French National Annex with an equivalent EHS diameter equal to P/π, where P is the perimeter of the ellipse.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical investigation on the post-fire behaviour of concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) column to restrained steel beam joint. An entire loading and fire phase, including ambient loading, heating with constant loads, cooling with constant loads and post-fire loading, was employed in the numerical analysis, and a finite element analysis (FEA) model was built to simulate the behaviour of CFST column to axially and rotationally restrained steel beam joints with external diaphragm connections under the entire loading and fire phase. For validation, the proposed modelling method was used to predict the test results of CFST columns and joints in fire and post-fire. The comparison demonstrates that the accuracy of the proposed FEA model is acceptable. Afterwards, the FEA model was used to analyse the mechanics characteristics of CFST column to restrained steel beam joints in the entire loading and fire phase. Based on the numerical analysis, the joint moment versus relative rotation angle relationship in the entire loading and fire phase was addressed, and the residual joint strength index and stiffness index were defined to evaluate the post-fire performance of joints. Finally, simplified calculating formulas were proposed to calculate the two indexes, which provide a simply and feasible method to evaluate the post-fire performance of external diaphragm joints in the CFST column - steel beam framed structure.  相似文献
