The performance of the UV Cu+ laser in a slotted hollow cathode has been investigated experimentally. The laser power dependent on discharge current, neon pressure, cathode length, and laser mirror transmission has been measured. The optimum neon pressure was found to be 13 mbar. Single-pass gains about 8 percent . m-1have been evaluated. The observed changes in the slot shape by sputtering during 100 h of operation are briefly discussed. The experimental results are compared to a recent sputtering theory and reasonable agreement is found. The sputtering theory, the spontaneous intensity measurements, and the evaluated gains are used to calculate the number densities of the5s Cu+ levels. Laser power is calculated from single-pass gains and agreement with experimental results is obtained. 相似文献

UV lasing on copper ion transitions in CuBr vapor laser has been obtained in a nanosecond pulsed longitudinal discharge with Brewster windows and external mirrors. A record small-signal gain per unit length has been achieved (up to 19%/m and 16%/m for the 238.6- and 270.3-nm transitions, respectively). Infrared (IR) laser action on Cu ions in a He-CuBr discharge and on Ag ions in a He-AgI (silver iodide) discharge has also been observed. A maximum average output power of 430 mW has been achieved multiline (740.4-780.8 nm) on the Cu+ IR transitions. A maximal gain of 58%/m has been obtained on the strongest 780.8-nm transition 相似文献

The discharge conditions for high average output power on four UV Cu+ lines at 248.6 252.9, 260.0, and 270.3 nm, in a nanosecond pulse-longitudinal Ne-CuBr discharge, have been investigated in two discharge tubes of different designs. A record average output power of 210 mW (and a peak pulse power of 1.7 W) on the 238.6-nm laser line, and of 270 mW for multiline operation has been obtained. An optical effect enhancing the 248.6-nm laser line power has been observed as the intensity of two Cu atom laser lines (510.6 and 578.2 nm) increases. It has been shown that the presence of Br atoms in the discharge leads to a fall of the Ne metastable density via Penning ionization and, hence, to a decrease of the Cu+ metastable density and an increase of the laser output 相似文献

In this paper an investigation of the spectral line widths and shifts of Ar I and Ar II lines in argon ion laser plasma is carried out. The discharge-tube internal diameters were 5 and 7 mm, the current densities were 113, 163, and 242 A/cm2, and the pressures were 0.68, 0.42, and 0.23 torr. Approximate calculations were made of ion and electron temperatures, electron density, ion mean free path, and charge-exchange cross section. It was determined that ion-neutral charge-exchange collisions play an important role in this type of plasma. 相似文献

The efficiency of a YAG: Nd3+-laser and the influence of pump-power level and of spectral filtering the pump light was studied. The laser was pulsed high above threshold. Without filtering the pump light, the maximum laser emission was reached 30 μs before the maximum pump power. With filtered pump light, the efficiency is doubled and the laser emission roughly follows the pump power. Dynamic input-output characteristics show an efficiency minimum at the pump-power maximum. 相似文献

Pulsed laser action at 2.119 μ has been observed from Ho3+in a crystal of YAlO3 sensitized with Er3+and Tm3+. A linearly polarized output of 1.2 J was obtained at 77°K. Measurements of the anisotropy of the stimulated-emission cross sections are reported. 相似文献

The drastic effect that a weak axial magnetic field can have upon the output of an He-Cd+ metal vapor laser is reported. A 37-percent increase in output power has been observed for a tube current of 55 mA and magnetic field strength of 70 G. An experimental investigation was conducted to reduce the parasitic noise appearing on the output of a 6-W CW YAG:Nd+3laser. Initially, low-frequency fluctuations as high as 30 percent and relaxation oscillation bursts exceeding 80 percent of the CW power level were present. Low-frequency modulation was reduced by the addition of an active feedback loop to control lamp current. Relaxation oscillations were determined to be influenced by laser rod cooling, pump-lamp aging, vibration, and intracavity optical interface quality. At the conclusion of the program, low-power fluctuations and relaxation oscillation excursions did not exceed 2 percent. 相似文献
