The growing interest in the United Kingdom in educational technology is reflected in the creation of a number of new organizations. The present interest in some devices is outlined; the author describes the rise and fall of programmed instruction, the reasons why early hopes were not realized, and the lessons to be derived. An educational television service and the Open University, both the world's largest systems of their kind, are described. Many teachers are reluctant to accept educational technology; this might be overcome by introducing teachers to the technique in a teaching situation, through local "workshops," the use of audiovisual aids in selected educational establishments, and instruction in the management of equipment. In the fall of 1969 a systematic reorganization of the EE laboratory program was begun at Purdue University. The reorganization was approached using an educational system model which recognized the needs for: clear statements of instructional objectives, mechanisms for information transfer, opportunities to practice, and apply new skills, the personal dimension of education and evaluation procedures. A second educational model, essentially orthogonal to the one above, based on Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives was used to plan the degree to which various skills and activities should be stressed in each course. Because science, technology, society, and values courses and programs are interdisciplinary, directly address social change, and must be future oriented, new guidelines for defming educational objectives must be developed. Five categories of specific objectives that can help a teacher design a unique course or groups of courses are: 1) educational objectives concerned with cultural attitudes toward social change; 2) educational objectives concerned with the ability to analyze future developments; 3) educational objectives concerned with basic and applied problem-solving skills; 4) educational objectives concerned with analytical and synthesizing skills; 5) educational objectives concerned with values considerations. The educator should determine which categories of objectives to focus on and which specific objectives within these categories to emphasize. These categories and specific objectives are presented as a heuristic aid-rather than a constraint-for course and program design. 相似文献

The Greek school network (GSN) is a closed nationwide educational network that offers advanced telematic and networking services to all primary/secondary education schools and administration offices in Greece. The primary objective of GSN is the provisioning of a network infrastructure for the interconnection of school PC laboratories so that modern educational methods and pedagogical models can be applied to the school community. GSN has scaled in size, has reached maturity, and is currently delivering a wide range of network and telematic services to its users. The emerging power of open-source software provides a sound technological basis for building cutting-edge services, capable of meeting internal administrative and monitoring needs, and modern pedagogical requirements for tools and services. The current paper presents an overview of GSN and an evaluation of its services based on the opinions of its users, and on service utilization and traffic measurement statistics. The paper reaches the conclusion that open-source solutions provide a sound technological platform that can cover, to a great extent, the needs for advanced educational services of the school community. 相似文献

We present a set of four educational experiments in machine vision. These were designed to run on low-cost hardware which is yet powerful enough to serve in genuine industrial applications of machine vision. The experiments introduce students to thresholding, connected component analysis, Hough transforms, stereo vision, and color coordinate systems. The programming involved is close enough to the hardware to expose students to real-time processing techniques and prepares them to tackle the type of problems they will face in field applications of machine vision. The experiments are: locate coins in an image, identify their denominations, and count the amount of money present; extract the straight edges of a cube by the Hough transform technique; extract three-dimensional (3-D) information from left and right images of the same cube; and transform color images from RGB to HSI coordinates and visually assess the results 相似文献

A survey was conducted on the availability of high-voltage educational laboratories in the universities of various countries. The purpose of the survey was to establish whether education in this area of electrical engineering has kept pace with industrial growth. The results show that in the United States only five such laboratories are known to be in active existence. These are not used for instruction but only for research. Elsewhere, 70 percent of all institutional laboratories were built after 1960. The survey has also revealed many interesting and surprising figures regarding the use, the equipment, the size, and the staff of their laboratories. It is concluded that a great need for such facilities to ameliorate the quality of instruction and research in high-voltage engineering exists in the United States. 相似文献
