A soluble graphene, which has a one‐atom thickness and a two‐dimensional structure, is blended with poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and used as the active layer in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) polymer photovoltaic cells. Adding graphene to the P3HT induces a great quenching of the photoluminescence of the P3HT, indicating a strong electron/energy transfer from the P3HT to the graphene. In the photovoltaic devices with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/P3HT:graphene/LiF/Al structure, the device efficiency increases first and then decreases with the increase in the graphene content. The device containing only 10 wt % of graphene shows the best performance with a power conversion efficiency of 1.1%, an open‐circuit voltage of 0.72 V, a short‐circuit current density of 4.0 mA cm−2, and a fill factor of 0.38 under simulated AM1.5G conditions at 100 mW cm−2 after an annealing treatment at 160 °C for 10 min. The annealing treatment at the appropriate temperature (160 °C, for example) greatly improves the device performance; however, an annealing at overgenerous conditions such as at 210 °C results in a decrease in the device efficiency (0.57%). The morphology investigation shows that better performance can be obtained with a moderate content of graphene, which keeps good dispersion and interconnection. The functionalized graphene, which is cheap, easily prepared, stable, and inert against the ambient conditions, is expected to be a competitive candidate for the acceptor material in organic photovoltaic applications.  相似文献

The discovery of nanodipolar π‐conjugated oligomer‐containing polymers as high performance nanodielectric materials with high permittivity and low dielectric loss over a wide range of frequency (100 Hz–4 MHz) is reported. Terthiophene‐containing methacrylate polymers are synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Both X‐ray and thermal studies indicate the formation of small crystalline domains of terthiophene side chains dispersed in amorphous matrix. The highly polarizable and fast‐responsive nanodipoles from the nanoscale crystalline domains (<2 nm) are believed to dictate the performance. These polymers uniquely satisfy nanodipole architectures conjectured two decades ago to guide the design of high performance nanodielectric materials. This unprecedented approach can be generalized to a variety of π‐conjugated oligomer‐containing polymers for the development of high energy density capacitor materials.  相似文献

2D conjugated metal‐organic frameworks (2D c‐MOFs) are emerging as a novel class of conductive redox‐active materials for electrochemical energy storage. However, developing 2D c‐MOFs as flexible thin‐film electrodes have been largely limited, due to the lack of capability of solution‐processing and integration into nanodevices arising from the rigid powder samples by solvothermal synthesis. Here, the synthesis of phthalocyanine‐based 2D c‐MOF (Ni2[CuPc(NH)8]) nanosheets through ball milling mechanical exfoliation method are reported. The nanosheets feature with average lateral size of ≈160 nm and mean thickness of ≈7 nm (≈10 layers), and exhibit high crystallinity and chemical stability as well as a p‐type semiconducting behavior with mobility of ≈1.5 cm2 V?1 s?1 at room temperature. Benefiting from the ultrathin feature, the nanosheets allow high utilization of active sites and facile solution‐processability. Thus, micro‐supercapacitor (MSC) devices are fabricated mixing Ni2[CuPc(NH)8] nanosheets with exfoliated graphene, which display outstanding cycling stability and a high areal capacitance up to 18.9 mF cm?2; the performance surpasses most of the reported conducting polymers‐based and 2D materials‐based MSCs.  相似文献

Ordering of semiconducting polymers in thin films from the nano to microscale is strongly correlated with charge transport properties as well as organic field‐effect transistor performance. This paper reports a method to control nano to microscale ordering of poly{[N,N′‐bis(2‐octyldodecyl)‐naphthalene‐1,4,5,8‐bis(dicarboximide)‐2,6‐diyl]‐alt‐5,5′‐(2,2′‐bithiophene)} (P(NDI2OD‐T2)) thin films by precisely regulating the solidification rate from the metastable state just before crystallization. The proposed simple but effective approach, kinetically controlled crystallization, achieves optimized P(NDI2OD‐T2) films with large polymer domains, long range ordered fibrillar structures, and molecular orientation preferable for electron transport leading to dramatic morphological changes in both polymer domain sizes at the micrometer scale and molecular packing structures at nanoscales. Structural changes significantly increase electron mobilities up to 3.43 ± 0.39 cm2 V?1 s?1 with high reliability, almost two orders of enhancement compared with devices from naturally dried films. Small contact resistance is also obtained for electron injection (0.13 MΩ cm), low activation energy (62.51 meV), and narrow density of states distribution for electron transport in optimized thin films. It is believed that this study offers important insight into the crystallization of conjugated polymers that can be broadly applied to optimize the morphology of semiconducting polymer films for solution processed organic electronic devices.  相似文献

A donor–acceptor (D–A) semiconducting copolymer, PDPP‐TVT‐29, comprising a diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) derivative with long, linear, space‐separated alkyl side‐chains and thiophene vinylene thiophene (TVT) for organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) can form highly π‐conjugated structures with an edge‐on molecular orientation in an as‐spun film. In particular, the layer‐like conjugated film morphologies can be developed via short‐term thermal annealing above 150 °C for 10 min. The strong intermolecular interaction, originating from the fused DPP and D–A interaction, leads to the spontaneous self‐assembly of polymer chains within close proximity (with π‐overlap distance of 3.55 Å) and forms unexpectedly long‐range π‐conjugation, which is favorable for both intra‐ and intermolecular charge transport. Unlike intergranular nanorods in the as‐spun film, well‐conjugated layers in the 200 °C‐annealed film can yield more efficient charge‐transport pathways. The granular morphology of the as‐spun PDPP‐TVT‐29 film produces a field‐effect mobility (μ FET) of 1.39 cm2 V?1 s?1 in an OFET based on a polymer‐treated SiO2 dielectric, while the 27‐Å‐step layered morphology in the 200 °C‐annealed films shows high μ FET values of up to 3.7 cm2 V?1 s?1.  相似文献

A series of naphthalene diimide‐based conjugated polymers are prepared with various molar percentage of low molecular weight polystyrene (PS) oligomer of narrow polydispersity as the side chain. The PS side chains are incorporated through preparation of a macromonomer by chain termination of living anionic polymerization. The effects of the PS side chains amount (0–20 mol%) versus overall sidechain on the electrical properties of the resulting polymers as n‐type polymer semiconductors in field‐effect transistors are investigated. We observe that all the studied polymers show similarly high electron mobility (≈0.2 cm2 V?1 s?1). Importantly, the polymers with high PS side chain content (20 mol%) show a significantly improved device stability under ambient conditions, when compared to the polymers at lower PS content (0–10 mol%). By comparing this observation to the physical blending of the conjugated polymer with PS, we attribute the improved stability to the covalently attached PS side chains potentially serving as a molecular encapsulating layer around the conjugated polymer backbone, rendering it less susceptible to electron traps such as oxygen and water molecules.  相似文献

Side group of ITIC‐like small molecular acceptor (SMA) plays a critical role in crystallization property. In this article, two new SMAs with n‐hexylthienyl and n‐hexylselenophenyl as side chain, namely ITCPTC‐Th and ITCPTC‐Se, are designed and synthesized by employing newly developed thiophene‐fused ending group (CPTCN). And thiophene and selenophene side group substituted effects of SMA‐based fullerene‐free polymer solar cells (PSCs) are investigated. A stronger σ‐inductive effect between selenophene side group and electron‐donating backbone endows ITCPTC‐Se with better optical absorption and higher LUMO level, ITCPTC‐Th‐based PSCs deliver a higher power conversion efficiency of 10.61%. Charge transport and collection, recombination loss mechanism, and morphology of blend films are intensively studied. These results confirm that side group substituted effects of SMAs are multiple and thiophene is a superior option to selenophene as aromatic side group of ITIC‐like SMAs.  相似文献

Tuning the side chains of conjugated polymers is a simple, yet effective strategy for modulating their structural and electrical properties, but their impact on n‐type conjugated polymers has not been studied extensively, particularly in the area of all‐polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs). Herein, the effects of side chain engineering of P(NDI2OD‐T2) polymer (also known as Polyera Activink N2200) are investigated, which is the most widely used n‐type polymer in all‐PSCs and organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs), on their structural and electronic properties. A series of naphthalenediimide‐bithiophene‐based copolymers (P(NDIR‐T2)) is synthesized, with different side chains (R) of 2‐hexyldecyl (2‐HD), 2‐octyldodecyl (2‐OD), and 2‐decyltetradecyl (2‐DT). The P(NDI2HD‐T2) exhibits more noticeable crystalline behaviors than P(NDI2OD‐T2) and P(NDI2DT‐T2), thereby facilitating superior 3D charge transport. For example, the P(NDI2HD‐T2) shows the highest OFET electron mobility (1.90 cm2 V?1 s?1). Also, a series of all‐PSCs is produced using different electron donors of PTB7‐Th, PTB7, and PPDT2FBT. The P(NDI2HD‐T2) based all‐PSCs produce much higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) irrespective of the electron donors. In particular, the PTB7‐Th:P(NDI2HD‐T2) forms highly ordered, strong face‐on interchain stackings, and has better intermixed bulk‐heterojunction morphology, producing the highest PCE of 6.11% that has been obtained by P(NDIR‐T2) based all‐PSCs to date.  相似文献

In this work, sidechain engineering on conjugated fused‐ring acceptors for conformation locking is demonstrated as an effective molecular design strategy for high‐performance nonfullerene organic solar cells (OSCs). A novel nonfullerene acceptor (ITC6‐IC) is designed and developed by introducing long alkyl chains into the terminal electron‐donating building blocks. ITC6‐IC has achieved definite conformation with a planar structure and better solubility in common organic solvents. The weak electron‐donating hexyl upshifts the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of ITC6‐IC, resulting in a higher VOC in comparison to the widely used ITIC. The OSCs based on PBDB‐T:ITC6‐IC reveal a promising power conversion efficiency of 11.61% and an expected high VOC of 0.97 V. The weaker π–π stacking induced by steric hindrance affords ITC6‐IC with enhanced compatibility with polymer donors. The blend film treated with suitable thermal annealing exhibits a fibril crystallization feature with a good bicontinuous network morphology. The results indicate that the molecular design approach of ITC6‐IC can be inspirational for future development of nonfullerene acceptors for high efficiency OSCs.  相似文献

Polymeric semiconductors have demonstrated great potential in the mass production of low‐cost, lightweight, flexible, and stretchable electronic devices, making them very attractive for commercial applications. Over the past three decades, remarkable progress has been made in donor–acceptor (D–A) polymer‐based field‐effect transistors, with their charge‐carrier mobility exceeding 10 cm2 V?1 s?1. Numerous molecular designs of D–A polymers have emerged and evolved along with progress in understanding the charge transport physics behind their high mobility. In this review, the current understanding of charge transport in polymeric semiconductors is covered along with significant features observed in high‐mobility D–A polymers, with a particular focus on polymeric microstructures. Subsequently, emerging molecular designs with further prospective improvements in charge‐carrier mobility are described. Moreover, the current issues and outlook for future generations of polymeric semiconductors are discussed.  相似文献

Here, a facial and scalable method for efficient exfoliation of bulk transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) and graphite in aqueous solution with poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) to prepare single‐ and few‐layer nanosheets is demonstrated. Importantly, these TMD nanosheets retain the single crystalline characteristic, which is essential for application in organic solar cells (OSCs). The hybrid PEDOT:PSS/WS2 ink prepared by a simple centrifugation is directly integrated as a hole extraction layer for high‐performance OSCs. Compared with PEDOT:PSS, the PEDOT:PSS/WS2‐based devices provide a remarkable power conversion efficiency due to the “island” morphology and benzoid–quinoid transition. This study not only demonstrates a novel method for preparing single‐ and few‐layer TMD and graphene nanosheets but also paves a way for their applications without further complicated processing.  相似文献

Optical effects of the plasmonic structures and the materials effects of the metal nanomaterials have recently been individually studied for enhancing performance of organic solar cells (OSCs). Here, the effects of plasmonically induced carrier generation and enhanced carrier extraction of the carrier transport layer (i.e., plasmonic‐electrical effects) in OSCs are investigated. Enhanced charge extraction in TiO2 as a highly efficient electron transport layer by the incorporation of metal nanoparticles (NPs) is proposed and demonstrated. Efficient device performance is demonstrated by using Au NPs incorporated TiO2 at a plasmonic wavelength (560–600 nm), which is far longer than the originally necessary UV light. By optimizing the concentration ratio of the Au NPs in the NP‐TiO2 composite, the performances of OSCs with various polymer active layers are enhanced and efficiency of 8.74% is reached. An integrated optical and electrical model, which takes into account plasmonic‐induced hot carrier tunneling probability and extraction barrier between TiO2 and the active layer, is introduced. The enhanced charge extraction under plasmonic illumination is attributed to the strong charge injection of plasmonically excited electrons from NPs into TiO2. The mechanism favors trap filling in TiO2, which can lower the effective energy barrier and facilitate carrier transport in OSCs.  相似文献

All small molecule organic solar cells (ASM-OSCs) have numerous advantages but lower power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) than their polymer equivalents, which is largely due to the suboptimal nanoscale network structure in a bulk heterojunction (BHJ). Herein, new small molecule donors with symmetric/asymmetric hybrid cyclopentyl-hexyl side chains are designed, accounting for manipulated intermolecular interactions and BHJ morphology. Theoretical and experimental results reveal that the asymmetric cyclopentyl-hexyl side chains modification has a significant influence on potential energy surface and intermolecular interaction that can ensure preferable molecular assembly and regulate the D/A interfacial energetics, thus boosting the exciton dissociation and charge transport when pairing with a wide-used acceptor L8-BO. Concurrently, a nanoscale bicontinuous interpenetrating network with optimal domain size can be fully evolved in the BHJ layer. As a consequence, the As-TCp-based binary device achieves a superior PCE of 16.46% in comparison to that of the controlled symmetric counterparts S-BF (14.92%) and A-TCp (15.77%), and ranks one of best performance among ASM-OSCs. This study demonstrates that precise manipulation of the cyclo-alkyl chain in combination with the asymmetric 2D side chain strategy is an effective synergistic approach to control intermolecular interaction and nanoscale bicontinuous phase separation for achieving high-performance ASM-OSCs.  相似文献

Solvent additives provide an effective means to alter the morphology and thereby improve the performance of organic bulk‐heterojunction photovoltaics, although guidelines for selecting an appropriate solvent additive remain relatively unclear. Here, a family of solvent additives spanning a wide range of Hansen solubility parameters is applied to a molecular bulk‐heterojunction system consisting of an isoindigo and thiophene containing oligomer as the electron donor and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) as the electron acceptor. Hansen solubility parameters are calculated using the group contribution method and compared with the measured solubilities for use as a screening method in solvent additive selection. The additives are shown to alter the morphologies in a semipredictable manner, with the poorer solvents generally resulting in decreased domain sizes, increased hole mobilities, and improved photovoltaic performance. The additives with larger hydrogen bonding parameters, namely triethylene glycol (TEG) and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), are demonstrated to increase the open circuit voltage by ~0.2 V. Combining a solvent additive observed to increase short circuit current, poly(dimethylsiloxane), with TEG results in an increase in power conversion efficiency from 1.4 to 3.3%.  相似文献

A molecular design strategy to achieve highly balanced ambipolar charge transport for donor–acceptor (D–A) isoindigo (IIG)‐based copolymer through systematic selection of fluorination positions is reported. To study fluorine substitution site effects on electronic and structural properties, two fluorinated IIG‐based copolymers (PIIG‐iFT2 and PIIG‐oFT2) are synthesized, which contain two fluorine atoms at the bithiophene (T2) inner and outer site and compare them with a nonfluorinated copolymer of IIG and T2 (PIIG‐T2) as the reference polymer. Fluorination at the outer site of T2 in PIIG‐oFT2 polymer effectively lowers molecular energy levels and increases molecular planarity more than fluorination at the T2 inner site. PIIG‐oFT2 organic field‐effect transistors show highly balanced ambipolar mobility, hole mobility (μh)/electron mobility (μe) = 1 by increasing electron mobility, whereas PIIG‐T2 (μhe = 9.0) and PIIG‐iFT2 (μhe = 2.4) exhibit unbalanced ambipolar transport. The ambipolar complementary‐like inverter is also demonstrated by simple one‐time coating of PIIG‐oFT2 with gain = 21.  相似文献

To devise a reliable strategy for achieving specific HOMO and LUMO energy level modulation via alternating donor‐acceptor monomer units, we investigate a series of conjugated polymers (CPs) in which the electron withdrawing power of the acceptor group is varied, while maintaining the same donor group and the same conjugated chain conformation. Through experiment and DFT calculations, good correlation is identified between the withdrawing strength of the acceptor group, the HOMO and LUMO levels, and the degree of orbital localization, which allows reliable design principles for CPs. Increasing the acceptor strength results in an enhanced charge transfer upon combination with a donor monomer and a more pronounced decrease of the LUMO level. Moreover, while HOMO states remain delocalized along the polymer chain, LUMO states are strongly localized at specific bonds within the acceptor group. The degree of LUMO localization increases with increasing polymer length, which results in a further drop of the LUMO level and converges to its final value when the number of repeat units reaches the characteristic conjugation length. Based on these insights we designed PBT8PT, which exhibits 6.78% power conversion efficiency after device optimization via the additive assisted annealing, demonstrating the effectiveness of our predictive design approach.  相似文献

2D conjugated side‐chain engineering is an effective strategy that is widely utilized to construct benzodithiophene‐based polymers. Herein, an unconjugated side‐chain strategy to design fused‐benzodithiophene‐based non‐fullerene small molecule acceptors (SMAs) via vertical aromatic side‐chain engineering on the ladder‐type core is employed. Three SMAs named BTTIC‐Th, BTTIC‐TT, and BTTIC‐Ph with thiophene, thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene, and benzene, respectively, as side chains, are designed and synthesized. Three SMAs exhibit similar absorption ranges but different lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels due to the different strength of the δ‐inductive effect between vertical aromatic side chains and their electron‐rich core. Organic solar cells based on PBDB‐T:BTTIC‐TT achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.44%, which is higher than the PCE of devices based on PBDB‐T:BTTIC‐Th (12.91%) and PBDB‐T:BTTIC‐Ph (9.14%). The difference in device performance is investigated by electrical and morphological characterizations. A large domain size and different types of π–π stacking are found in the bulk heterojunction layer of PBDB‐T:BTTIC‐Ph blend film, which are detrimental to exciton dissociation and charge transport. Overall, it is demonstrated that when designing unconjugated side chains, thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene is superior to thiophene and benzene through its dual roles of promoting the LUMO energy level and optimizing the morphology. These results shed light on the side‐chain engineering of high‐performance non‐fullerene SMAs.  相似文献

A desired morphology is essential for achieving efficient polymer solar cells. Donors and acceptors with appropriate crystallization can lead to a suitable phase-separated morphology for effective photocurrent generation process. Inspired by the success of Y6 acceptors and the 2D side chain engineering on popular polymer donors and small molecule acceptors, the usage of unique 2D 3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene (EDOT) side chains on Y6 to regulate its crystallinity, compatibility, and thus the related blend morphology is explored. In this study, two molecules of BTP-EDOT-4F and BTP-EDOT-4Cl with such unique 2D EDOT side chains are designed and synthesized. Due to the advantage of EDOT side chain, when these molecules are blended with PM6, the decent power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 16.78% and 15.87% are obtained. Furthermore, BTP-EDOT-4F is selected as the third component and added into PM6:L8-BO binary system to form ternary blends. The optimized crystallinity, compatibility, and morphology of such ternary blend are discovered in the presence of BTP-EDOT-4F, which enables efficient exciton dissociation and charge transport as well as decreased recombination, resulting in higher short circuit current density (Jsc) and fill factor. Finally, the outstanding PCE of 18.56% is achieved in ternary blends containing PM6, L8-BO, and BTP-EDOT-4F.  相似文献

The vast majority of ternary organic solar cells are obtained by simply fabricating bulk heterojunction (BHJ) active layers. Due to the inappropriate distribution of donors and acceptors in the vertical direction, a new method by fabricating pseudoplanar heterojunction (PPHJ) ternary organic solar cells is proposed to better modulate the morphology of active layer. The pseudoplanar heterojunction ternary organic solar cells (P‐ternary) are fabricated by a sequential solution treatment technique, in which the donor and acceptor mixture blends are sequentially spin‐coated. As a consequence, a higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.2% is achieved with a Voc of 0.79 V, Jsc of 25.6 mA cm?2, and fill factor (FF) of 69.8% compared with the ternary BHJ system of 13.8%. At the same time, the alloyed acceptor is likely formed between two the acceptors through a series of in‐depth explorations. This work suggests that nonfullerene alloyed acceptor may have great potential to realize effective P‐ternary organic solar cells.  相似文献
