The objective of this study is to apply and investigate a neural network-based decision feedback scheme for interference suppression in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) wireless networks. It is demonstrated that a decision feedback functional link equalizer (DFFLE) in combination with an eigenvector network can closely approximate a Bayesian receiver with significant advantages, such as improved bit-error ratio (BER) performance, adaptive operation, and single-user detection in a multiuser environment. It is assumed that the spreading codes of the interfering users will be unknown to the receiver. This detector configuration is appropriate for downlink communication between a base station and a mobile user in a digital wireless network. The BER performance in the presence of interfering users is evaluated. The improved performance of such a DFFLE receiver for CDMA is attributed to the nonlinear decision boundary it evaluates for the desired user. The receiver structure is also capable of rapid adaptation in a dynamic communications scenario for which there is entry/exit of users and imperfect power control. The convergence performance and error propagation of the DFFLE receiver are also considered and exhibit reasonable promise for third generation wireless DS-CDMA networks  相似文献

Group-blind multiuser detection for uplink CDMA   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
Previously developed blind techniques for multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems lead to several near-far resistant adaptive receivers for demodulating a given user's data with the prior knowledge of only the spreading sequence of that user. In the CDMA uplink, however, typically the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. In this paper, group-blind techniques are developed for multiuser detection in such scenarios. These new techniques make use of the spreading sequences and the estimated multipath channels of all known users to suppress the intracell interference, while blindly suppressing the intercell interference. Several forms of group-blind linear detectors are developed based on different criteria. Moreover, group-blind multiuser detection in the presence of correlated noise is also considered. In this case, two receiving antennas are needed for channel estimation and signal separation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed group-blind linear multiuser detection techniques offer substantial performance gains over the blind linear multiuser detection methods in a CDMA uplink environment  相似文献

Direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) is a popular multiple-access technology for wireless communications. However, its performance is limited by multiple-access interference and multipath distortion. Multiuser detection and space-time processing are two signal processing techniques employed to improve the performance of DS-CDMA. Two minimum probability of error-based space-time multiuser detection algorithms are proposed in this paper. The first algorithm, minimum joint probability of error (MJPOE), aims to minimize the joint probability of error for all users. The second algorithm, minimum conditional probability of error (MCPOE), minimizes the probability of error of each user conditioned on the transmitted bit vector, for each user individually. In both the algorithms, the optimal filter weights are computed adaptively using a gradient descent approach. The MJPOE algorithm is blind and offers a bit-error-rate (BER) performance better than the nonadaptive minimum mean squared error (MMSE) algorithm, at the cost of higher computational complexity. An approach for reducing the computational overheads of MJPOE using Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization is suggested. The BER performance of the MCPOE algorithm is slightly inferior to MMSE, however, it has a computational complexity linear in the number of users. Both blind and training-based implementations for MCPOE are proposed. Both MJPOE and MCPOE have a convergence rate much faster than earlier known adaptive implementations of the MMSE detector, viz. least mean square and recursive least squares. Simulation results are presented for synchronous single path channels as well as asynchronous multipath channels, with multiple antennas employed at the receiver.  相似文献

We propose a modified linear parallel interference cancelation (PIC) structure using the adaptive minimum mean output-energy (MMOE) algorithm for direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems. The complexity of the proposed receiver structure is shown to be linear in the number of users and hence, lower complexity than the centralized minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) multiuser detector. It is demonstrated that the proposed receiver structure can significantly reduce the long training period required by the standard adaptive MMOE receiver in near-far environments. Both numerical and theoretical results show that the proposed receiver performs close to the optimum MMSE receiver whereas the conventional adaptive MMOE detector suffers from high BER’s due to the imperfect filter coefficients. Also our results show a three fold increase in the number of users when the MMOE-PIC is used relative to the conventional MMOE receiver. Furthermore, the transient behavior of the proposed MMOE-PIC receiver due to abrupt changes in the interference level is examined. It is shown that the proposed adaptive receiver offers much faster self recovery, with less signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) degradation, than the standard MMOE in sever near-far scenarios.  相似文献

In this paper, a turbo receiver structure is proposed for the uplink of coded code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems in the presence of unknown users. The proposed receiver consists of two stages following each other. The first stage performs soft interference cancellation and group-blind linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) filtering, and the second stage performs channel decoding. The proposed group-blind linear MMSE filter suppresses the residual multiple-access interference (MAI) from known users based on the spreading sequences and the channel characteristics of these users while suppressing the interference from other unknown users using a subspace-based blind method. The proposed receiver is suitable for suppressing intercell interference in heavily loaded CDMA systems. Since the knowledge of the number of unknown users is crucial for the proposed receiver structure, a novel estimator is also proposed to estimate the number of unknown users in the system by exploiting the statistical properties of the received signal. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed estimator can provide the number of unknown users with high accuracy; in addition, the proposed group-blind receiver integrated with the new estimator can significantly outperform the conventional turbo multiuser detector in the presence of unknown users.   相似文献

The primary purpose of this work is to provide a perspective on adaptive code-division multiple-access (CDMA) MU receivers that have been proposed for future digital wireless systems. Adaptive receivers can potentially adapt to unknown and time-varying environmental parameters such as the number of users, their received powers, spreading codes and time-delays. Two adaptive receiver architectures are primarily considered – one in which the sampled received signal is filtered, and can be used in both the uplink (i.e., at the base station) and downlink (i.e., at the mobile handset), and another in which the spreading codes of users are filtered (assuming knowledge of users’ codes and its timing at the receiver) for use in the uplink. Relevant issues such as training-based and blind implementations of the adaptive receiver are discussed, as well as (transient) convergence rates and estimation noise in steady-state. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Wang and Host-Madsen (see IEEE J. Select. Areas Commun., vol.17, p.1971-84, 1999) developed group-blind multiuser detectors for use in code-division multiple-access (CDMA) uplink environments in which the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. Yu and Host-Madsen (see Proc. IEEE Vehicular Technology Conf. (VTC99), Houston, TX, p.1042-46, 1999) later developed an adaptive version of this detector for synchronous CDMA channels. We develop a new low-complexity, high-performance subspace tracking algorithm and apply it to adaptive group-blind multiuser detection in asynchronous multipath CDMA channels. The detector can track changes in the number of users and their composite signature waveforms. We present steady-state performance as well as the ability of the receiver to track changes in the signal subspace. We also address the performance gain of the group-blind detector over its blind counterpart for this application  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel space-time minimum mean square error (MMSE) decision feedback (DF) detection scheme for direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems with multiple receive antennas, which employs multiple-parallel-feedback (MPF) branches for interference cancellation. The proposed space-time receiver is then further combined with cascaded DF stages to mitigate the deleterious effects of error propagation for uncoded schemes. To adjust the parameters of the receiver, we also present modified adaptive stochastic gradient (SG) and recursive least squares (RLS) algorithms that automatically switch to the best-available interference cancellation feedback branch and jointly estimate the feedforward and feedback filters. The performance of the system with beamforming and diversity configurations is also considered. Simulation results for an uplink scenario with uncoded systems show that the proposed space-time MPF-DF detector outperforms existing schemes such as linear, parallel DF (P-DF), and successive DF (S-DF) receivers in terms of bit error rate (BER) and achieves a substantial capacity increase in terms of the number of users, compared with the existing schemes. We also derive the expressions for MMSE achieved by the analyzed DF structures, including the novel scheme, with imperfect and perfect feedback and expressions of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for the beamforming and diversity configurations with linear receivers.  相似文献

The random matrix theory is used to analyze the asymptotic performance of the blind minimum output energy (MOE) receiver in direct-sequence code division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems in the presence of unknown multipath channel under the condition that the spreading factor and the number of users go to infinity with the same rate. As a special case, the asymptotic properties of the blind Capon receiver are also studied and the conditions of convergence of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of this receiver to that of the optimal minimum-mean-square error (MMSE) receiver are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the SINR performances of the Capon and MMSE receivers are nearly identical in the uplink scenario, while the performance of the Capon receiver may be considerably inferior to that of the MMSE receiver in the downlink transmission case. As the performance of the Capon receiver is closely related to the performance of the Capon channel estimator, the asymptotic properties of the latter estimator are also studied and the conditions of convergence of the Capon channel estimate to a scaled version of the channel vector of the user-of-interest are obtained.  相似文献

The technique of linear multiuser detection in DS-CDMA systems is studied in this paper. The purpose is to find a receiver structure with good performance and moderate complexity, so that the receiver can efficiently suppress multiple-access interference(MAI) and multipath interference and has good near-far resistant ability, which may improve the system's capability while reducing the requirement for power control. The main work of the dissertation can be summarized as follows: the performance of MMSE multiuser detector in synchronous/asynchronous DS-CDMA systems over different channels is analyzed in chapter 2 of the dissertation. Using matrix method, we analyze the relation between performance measurement and spreading code correlation matrix, Signal-Interference-Ratio(SIR) and near-far factor, and prove that the performance of MMSE detector is better than that of the decorrelating detector. For fading channel, we analyze the performance of MMSE detector in DS-SS system firstly. Results show that the detector can efficiently suppress multipath interference. Extending to synchronous/asynchronous DS-CDMA systems over fading channels, we propose a simple linear detector structure that accomplishes despreading, detection and combining. Thus, the receiver is easy for implementation. Based on the proposed notion of combined spreading codes, we prove that the synchronous/asynchronous CDMA system is equivalent to the synchronous CDMA system over AWGN channel with double users. Therefore, the MMSE detector can efficiently suppress MAI and multipath interference in steady state, and has good near-far resistant ability. In chapter 3, we study the adaptive algorithm based on MMSE criterion. Firstly, the approach to the blind algorithm based on subspace is analyzed. We improve the algorithm in the part of channel estimation, which decreases the computational complexity while guaranteeing the performance. Meanwhile, we point out that CMOE-RLS algorithm is essentially an algorithm based on subspace approach. Also, it is shown from simulation that PASTd subspace tracking algorithm is not applicable for multiuser detection. Secondly, we propose an adaptive algorithm based on pilot channel, called PCA/PCRA. The algorithm does not require channel estimation, and has a rapid convergence rate. The steady state performance can be achieved by increasing the transmitting power in pilot channel. Computational complexity is only O(N2). Therefore, PCA/PCRA is suitable for the engineering application. The cost is that a pilot channel is needed for each user in the system. In chapter 4, constant algorithms for multiuser detection are studied. Firstly, we analyze the capture performance of CMA, and point out there exist many local stationary points. Initializations to guarantee CMA converges to the desired point are discussed. Results show that the convergence of CMA is decided by constant, step-size, spreading code correlation matrix and near-far factor. Secondly, we propose the constrained constant algorithm (C-CMA) for multiuser detection. It is shown that when the constant is greater than the triple power of the desired user, C-CMA globally converges to the desired point. Simulations illustrate that C-CMA has a rapid convergence rate and the steady state performance is good. However, great step-size can also reult in dispersion for the algorithm. Since C-CMA is a variable step-size CMOE-LMS algorithm, we propose a variable step-size constraint algorithm (VSCA). VSCA has the advantages of both CMOE-LMS and C-CMA such as robust, rapid convergence rate and good steady state performance. Thus, VSCA is suitable for engineering application. But the improper selection of step-size coefficients may degrade performance seriously. The computational complexity of the above constant algorithms is only O(N). In Section 5, the cyclostationarity of spreading signals is analyzed in the first part. We prove that spreading signals are ergodic cyclostationary signals with a cyclic period that is equal to the period of spreading code. Methods for processing cyclostationary signals are then given. It is shown that this method can mitigate the interference from a stationary noise for channel estimation. But the computational complexity for cyclostationary correlation is high, which prevents its application in implementation. In the second part, we discuss the application of oversampling technique in spreading communication systems. Although the oversampling can improve the performance of the linear multiuser detector, the improvement is trivial. On the contrary, oversampling increases the computational complexity of the weight vector greatly, which prevents its application in implementation. Additionally, we prove that FSE plus despreading or despreading pus FSE is equivalent to the linear detector with different lengths of delay line. However, the two kinds of structure have lower computational complexity.  相似文献

In this letter, we provide a rigorous analytical comparison of two blind adaptive algorithms for adjustment of the minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) filter for multiple access interference (MAI) suppression for direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA). In particular, we compare the popular minimum-output-energy (MOE) algorithm and the blind least-mean-square algorithm (BLMS) in terms of complexity, transient behavior, convergence, stability, and steady-state performance. We show analytically that the MOE algorithm enjoys a faster speed of convergence and has a superior steady-state performance, while the BLMS algorithm is computationally less complex.  相似文献

Symbol rate processing for the downlink of DS-CDMA systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Many services of third-generation (3G) mobile radio systems will have higher data rates in the downlink than in the uplink. We propose to utilize adaptive antennas at the base stations because spatial interference suppression is able to reduce the near-far effect in the downlink of single-user detection direct-sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Besides the channel parameters in terms of directions of arrival, delays, and medium-term average path attenuations which are estimated in the uplink, we also take into account the correlation properties of the spreading and scrambling codes. In DS-CDMA the users are distinguished by different spreading codes, which change over time due to scrambling. In Brunner et al. (see Proc. EPMCC, p.375-80, 1999), the beamforming vectors at the base station were computed slotwise, whereas in this paper, we favor a symbol-rate beamforming at the base station. The new approach optimizes the actual values of the decision variables of the RAKE demodulators at the receivers. The superiority of the symbol rate beamforming algorithm compared to slotwise beamforming is shown by bit error rate (BER) simulations  相似文献

Reduced-rank minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) multiuser detectors using asymptotic weights have been shown to reduce receiver complexity while maintaining good performance in long-sequence code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems. In this paper, we consider the design of reduced-rank MMSE receivers in a general framework which includes fading, single and multiantenna receivers, as well as direct-sequence CDMA (DS-CDMA) and multicarrier CDMA (both uplink and downlink). In all these cases, random matrix results are used to obtain explicit expressions for the asymptotic eigenvalue moments of the interference autocorrelation matrix and for the asymptotic weights used in the reduced-rank receiver.  相似文献

This paper studies an enhanced widely linear (WL) receiver for direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems that employ aperiodic spreading sequences with offset quadrature phase-shift keying (OQPSK) modulation. The modulation scheme generates improper complex multiple-access interference (MAI) and necessitates the use of WL receivers. Focus is on bandlimited pulse shapes and the inherent cyclostationarity (CS) of the uncoded received signal. The enhanced WL receiver replaces the conventional chip-matched filter with new filters that exploit the CS of the received signal through frequency shifting. The proposed WL receiver is shown to outperform the classical strictly linear (SL) receiver when the interfering users are (quasi-)synchronous with respect to the user of interest. High-powered interfering users, that may exist to support high data rates, increase the performance improvement delivered by the WL receiver. Moreover, it is shown that MAI can become proper, either identically or asymptotically, when users are asynchronous and equally powered. This is despite the fact that individual interfering signals are improper. Numerical results demonstrate that the WL receiver can outperform the SL receiver by 1-3 dB under the examined scenarios with current CDMA standards settings. In asynchronous or quasi-synchronous transmission modes, performance gain of the WL receiver degrades unless the number of high-powered active users remains small. An example for implementation of the WL receiver is proposed and compared with that of the SL receiver when minimum-shift keying modulation, a special case of OQPSK, is used. The implementation is based on a fractionally spaced equalizer whose taps are updated by an adaptive algorithm. It is shown that the proposed structure is capable of delivering the maximum signal-to-noise ratio predicted by theory.  相似文献

A novel robust noncoherent receiver for minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) interference suppression for direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) is proposed. The receiver consists of a linear MMSE filter and a decision-feedback differential detector (DF-DD). The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated analytically and by computer simulations. It is shown that the loss compared to coherent MMSE interference suppression is limited and can be made arbitrarily small by increasing the observation window used for calculation of the reference symbol of the DF-DD. Hence, the regarded noncoherent receiver is near-far resistant. For adjustment of the MMSE filter coefficients three noncoherent adaptive algorithms are proposed. In contrast to coherent adaptive algorithms, these noncoherent algorithms have the important advantage that they also converge if the channel phase is time-variant  相似文献

Direct adaptive realizations of the linear minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receiver for direct-sequence code-division multiple access possess the attractive feature of not requiring any explicit information of interference parameters such as timing, amplitudes, or spreading sequences; however, they need a training sequence for the desired user. Previously, a new blind adaptive receiver was proposed based on an anchored least mean-squared (LMS) algorithm that requires only the spreading code and symbol timing of the desired user but obviates the need for a training sequence. In this work, it is analytically demonstrated that the blind LMS algorithm always provides (nominally) faster convergence than the training driven LMS-MMSE receiver of but at the cost of increased tap-weight fluctuations or misadjustment. Second, the property that the optimal MMSE or minimum-output energy filter coefficients lies in the signal subspace is exploited to propose a new efficient blind adaptive receiver requiring fewer adaptive coefficients. Improved detector characteristics (superior convergence rates and steady-state signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios) is indicated by analysis and supported by simulation  相似文献

A simple multicell uplink communication model is suggested and analyzed for optimally coded randomly spread direct sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA). The model adheres to Wyner's (1994) infinite linear cell-array model, according to which only adjacent-cell interference is present, and characterized by a single parameter 0⩽α⩽1. The discussion is confined to asymptotic analysis where both the number of users and the processing gain go to infinity, while their ratio goes to some finite constant. Single cell-site processing is assumed and four multiuser detection strategies are considered: the matched-filter detector, “optimum” detection with adjacent-cell interference treated as Gaussian noise, the linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector and a detector that performs MMSE-based successive interference cancellation for intracell users with linear MMSE processing of adjacent-cell interference. Spectral efficiency is evaluated under three power allocation policies: equal received powers (for all users), equal rates, and a maximal spectral efficiency policy. Comparative results demonstrate how performance is affected by the introduction of intercell interference, and what is the penalty associated with the randomly spread coded DS-CDMA strategy. Finally, the effect of intercell time-sharing protocols as suggested by Shamai and Wyner (1997) is also examined, and a significant system performance enhancement is observed  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of interference suppression in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems over fading channels. An adaptive array receiver is presented which integrates multiuser detection, beamforming, and RAKE reception to mitigate cochannel interference and fading. The adaptive multiuser detector is formulated using a blind constrained energy minimization criterion and adaptation is carried out using a novel algorithm based on set-membership parameter estimation theory. The proposed detector overcomes the shortcomings of conventional LMS- and RLS-type algorithms, namely, that of slow convergence and large computational load, respectively. This is especially the case when strong interferers are present or when the number of adaptive weights is relatively large. DS-CDMA systems can have a relatively large number of spatially distributed interferers. Thus beamforming is based on direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimates provided by an approximate maximum-likelihood estimator (DOA-MLE). Unlike previous approaches, the DOA-MLE exploits the structure of the DS-CDMA signaling scheme resulting in robust performance and simple implementation in the presence of angle spreading. The overall method is suitable for real-time implementation and can substantially improve the interference suppression capabilities of a CDMA system  相似文献

Herein, we consider uplink multiuser massive multiple‐input multiple‐output systems when multiple users transmit information symbols to a base station (BS) by applying simple space‐time block coding (STBC). At the BS receiver, two detection filters for each user are used to detect the STBC information symbols. One of these filters is for odd‐indexed symbols and the other for even‐indexed symbols. Using constrained output variance metric minimization, we first derive a special relation between the closed‐form optimal solutions for the two detection filters. Then, using the derived special relation, we propose a new blind adaptive algorithm for implementing the minimum output variance‐based optimal filters. In the proposed adaptive algorithm, filter weight vectors are updated only in the region satisfying the special relation. Through a theoretical analysis of the convergence speed and a computer simulation, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme exhibits faster convergence speed and lower steady‐state bit error rate than the conventional scheme.  相似文献

In this paper, an antenna array based base station receiver structure for multicarrier direct sequence code-division-multiple-access (Multicarrier DS-CDMA) system with binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation is proposed. One of the main advantages of the receiver structure is that the spatial diversity is obtained by combining signals at different array elements. Based on the detailed analysis of multiple access interference (MAI) and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) characteristics, the uplink bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed antenna array Multicarrier DS-CDMA is provided. With regard to spatial domain combining, the optimum spatial combining (OSC) and suboptimum spatial combination (SOSC) weights is derived while the suboptimum set of weights is simplified in the sense that only the knowledge of array vector of desired user alone is sufficient for the combining. Simulation results verify the analysis, and it is shown that MAI is mitigated and subsequently the system performance is improved significantly by incorporating antenna array at the base station.  相似文献
