本文介绍了我们设计开发的ＤＯＳ／ＵＮＩＸ环境下带ＭＯＤＥＭ控制的串行口驱动程序、驱动程序之上的Ｘ．２８通信平台以及平台的应用。ＤＯＳ下的底层驱动程序用驻留中断实现，ＵＮＩＸ下的驱动程序用ＵＮＩＸ的流机制实现，数据接收均采用硬件中断，有效地防止了漏字符现象的发生。ＤＯＳ、ＵＮＩＸ下串行口驱动程序之上的Ｘ．２８通行平台提供了一致的可用于二次开发的编程原语。利用该平台可以实现ＤＯＳ／ＵＮＩＸ应用程序通过Ｘ．２５公共数据网或公共电话网的数据传输。本文还介绍了我们在平台上开发的Ｘ．２５ＰＤＮ上ＳｐｒｉｎｔＭａｉｌ用户端应用程序。

A general and flexible method of problem definition in structural optimization systems

This paper describes the implementation of a general and flexible method of formulating problems of mathematical programming in structural optimization systems. The method enables the formulation and solution of problems involving scalar, integral, min/max, max/min and possibly non-differentiable user defined functions in any conceivable mix. The mathematical formulation is based on the bound formulation, and the implementation specific details involve a parser capable of interpreting and performing symbolic differentiation of the user defined functions.     

Interactive control system design

This contribution describes a LabVIEW-based interactive computer-aided control system design tool. Although it does not provide the flexibility of common low-level design tools, it offers a set of comfortable, ready-to-use solutions for plant identification, loop-shaping or LQR/LQG-controller design and controller implementation. The tool integrates into industrial plant control and enables engineers to efficiently do the control system design from plant identification to controller implementation on the same platform. The user interface with convenient system editors and analysis tools facilitates the user to interactively attain the design goals. If desired, a configurable wizard leads the user through the design process.

User engagement in e-government systems implementation: A comparative case study of two Singaporean e-government initiatives

Noting that user engagement is a key issue in e-government systems implementation and that the actual form and strategies of user engagement, especially within the context of e-government, is poorly defined, this paper intends to contribute to the research and practice of e-government systems implementation by conducting a comparative case study of two e-government systems implementation within a single government agency in Singapore. The comparative analysis of these two e-government systems implementation was accomplished through using stakeholder theory as a sense-making theoretical lens. This generated four findings pertaining to the form and strategies of user engagement in e-government systems implementation.     

Experience in design and implementation of an IGES translator

This paper describes a general design concept for an IGES translator. The design allows implementation of IGES translators for different CAD/CAM systems with a minimum of programming effort. It divides the functions of an IGES translator into two categories: those common to implementations of an IGES translator, and those specific to the target system. Allowing user interactions to control entity mappings, the design adds user flexibility to an IGES translator. Different results that can be created for an IGES file are shown and discussed, using a sample implementation.     

Minimalist User Modelling in a Complex Commercial Software System

While user modelling has produced many research-based systems, comparatively little progress has been made in the development of user modelling components for commercial software systems. The development of minimalist user modelling components which are simplified to provide just enough assistance to a user through a pragmatic adaptive user interface is seen by many as an important step toward this goal. This paper describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of a minimalist user modelling component for the Tax and Investment Management Strategizer (TIMS), a complex commercial software system for financial management. This user modelling component manages several levels of adaptations designed to assist novice users in dealing with the complexity of this software package. Important issues and considerations for the development of user modelling components for commercial software systems and the evaluation of such systems in commercial settings are also discussed.     

Utilizing vector space models for user modeling within e-learning environments

User modeling has been found to enhance the effectiveness and/or usability of software systems through the representation of certain properties of a particular user. This paper presents the research and the results of the development of a user modeling system for the implementation of student models within e-learning environments, utilizing vector space models. The central challenge has been to exploit the possibilities of IUI research on user models without compromising the performance of the overall system. The research described in this paper has aimed to augment the user interface of an existing e-learning environment with relevant aspects from the domain of intelligent user interfaces, through developing a student modeling component.
