This paper analyses the behavior of two hybrid time-code division multiple-access (T/CDMA) architectures on the up-link of a macrocellular mobile radio system. For the examined schemes two categories of users-voice and data-share the domain of available resources, made up of time slots and codewords, through two alternative assignment strategies. Both solutions attribute voice users one single resource pair, i.e., one time slot and a single code to employ on that time slot, but differ in the way data users requests are accommodated: they are either simultaneously granted several codes over the same time slot or are assigned a single code over several distinct time slots. Call admission control is performed by a channel assignment algorithm which dynamically attributes resources only if specified levels of transmission quality are met on the radio channels. The blocking and the outage probability of the two classes of users are determined and compared, showing that one of the proposed schemes exhibits better performance and allows to satisfyingly serve a significant percentage of data users  相似文献

We view the asynchronous random code division multiple-access (CDMA) channel as a time-varying convolutional code. We study the case where the users encode their data, and, therefore, the single user transmitters and the CDMA channel appear as the concatenation of two coding systems. At the receiver we employ serial turbo decoding strategies. Unlike conventional turbo codes where both the inner and outer code may be selected, in our case, the inner code is due to the CDMA channel which we assume to be random. Nevertheless, the decoding system resembles the decoder of a serial turbo code and single-user performance is obtained even for numbers of users approaching the spreading code length  相似文献

Group-blind multiuser detection for uplink CDMA   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
Previously developed blind techniques for multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems lead to several near-far resistant adaptive receivers for demodulating a given user's data with the prior knowledge of only the spreading sequence of that user. In the CDMA uplink, however, typically the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. In this paper, group-blind techniques are developed for multiuser detection in such scenarios. These new techniques make use of the spreading sequences and the estimated multipath channels of all known users to suppress the intracell interference, while blindly suppressing the intercell interference. Several forms of group-blind linear detectors are developed based on different criteria. Moreover, group-blind multiuser detection in the presence of correlated noise is also considered. In this case, two receiving antennas are needed for channel estimation and signal separation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed group-blind linear multiuser detection techniques offer substantial performance gains over the blind linear multiuser detection methods in a CDMA uplink environment  相似文献

This paper proposes and investigates a novel code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system. This two-layer spreading CDMA (TLS-CDMA) system can combat multiple-access interference (MAI) and multipath interference (MPI) simultaneously and effectively in a multiuser scenario over frequency-selective fading channels. Moreover, a two-layer cell-specific scrambling code is proposed for the TLS-CDMA system in the uplink transmission to efficiently suppress other-cell interference (OCI) in a multicell environment. The proposed TLS-CDMA system allows the two-layer spreading factors to be adapted to the cell structure, the channel conditions, and the number of active users to support variable data rate transmission among multiple users. The superior performance of the TLS-CDMA system over other uplink transmission systems, such as cyclic prefix CDMA (CP-CDMA) and multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA), is also illustrated using performance analysis and simulation results.   相似文献

Commercial interest in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems has risen dramatically in the last few years. It yields a potential increase in capacity over other access schemes, because it provides protection against interference, multipath, fading, and jamming. Recently, several interference cancellation schemes for CDMA have been proposed but they require information about all interfering active users or some channel parameters. The authors present an adaptive fractionally spaced decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for a CDMA system in an indoor wireless Rayleigh fading environment. This system only uses information about the desired user's spreading code and a training sequence. An analysis on the optimum performance of the DFE receiver shows the advantages of this system over others in terms of capacity improvements. A simulation of this system is also presented to study the convergence properties and implementation considerations of the DFE receiver. Effects on the performance because of sudden birth and death of users in the CDMA system and bit error rate performance of the DFE receiver is also presented  相似文献

This paper first studied the timeslot assignment problem in time division multiple access/code division multiple access (TDMA/CDMA) wireless ad hoc networks. Given a path P, we prove that a timeslot assignment providing one unit of bandwidth on P can be found in O(P) time if such an assignment exists. The results have been extended to the case that P can provide two units of bandwidth. Based on the timeslot assignment for the special cases, an efficient slot assignment algorithm with O(P2k) is proposed for general cases, where k is the number of slots in a TDMA frame. Then, the timeslot assignment algorithm is integrated into a quality of service (QoS) call admission scheme for QoS call requests. Extensive simulations are conducted and the results have demonstrated the superior performance of our method.  相似文献

A direct sequence (DS) spread spectrum code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system is considered where several users transmit data symbols over different multipath channels. The main objective of this work is the proposal of a sequential algorithm for joint parameter estimation and multiuser data detection. The computationally prohibitive maximization of the log-likelihood function is replaced by a sequential scheme using the multistage detector for recovering the data symbols and the expectation-maximization algorithm for estimating the channel parameters. The performance of the resulting multiuser receiver is evaluated via Monte Carlo simulations using both synthetic as well as measured channel impulse responses. A comparison of the performance with analytical expressions for the single-user single-path case shows that the proposed system is capable of eliminating the near-far effect existing in conventional DS/CDMA systems.  相似文献

Since optical code division multiple access (CDMA) is an interference-limited system, we propose a system employing trellis-coded scheme and double optical hardlimiters (TC-DHLs) to alleviate the adverse impact of multiple access interference. For asynchronous transmission, optical orthogonal code (OOC) is utilized as signature sequence. System performance is evaluated under the chip synchronous case among different users, and thermal noise, avalanche photodiode (APD) noise, and interference are taken into consideration. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme can further reduce the error floor up to several orders over systems that using only double optical hardlimiters  相似文献

In this letter we estimate the bit error probability (BEP) of optimum multiuser detection for synchronous and asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) systems on Gaussian and fading channels. We first compute an upper bound and a lower bound on the bit error probability for a given spreading code, then average the bounds over a few thousand sets of spreading codes. These bounds are obtained from a partial distance spectrum. On Gaussian channels, the upper bound converges to the lower bound at moderate to large signal-to-noise ratios. However, on fading channels the upper bound does not converge, hence we present our results for the lower bound only. The numerical results show that: 1) the BEP of a 31-user CDMA system with binary random spreading codes of length 31 is only two to four times higher than the BEP of the single user system; 2) the number of users that can be accommodated in an asynchronous CDMA system is larger than the processing gain; and 3) optimum multiuser detection outperforms linear detection (e.g., the decorrelating detector) by about 2.8 to 5.7 dB  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to investigate the multirate transmission in fiber-optic code-division multiple-access (CDMA) networks. In this article, we propose a variable-length code construction for any existing optical orthogonal code to implement a multirate optical CDMA system (called as the multirate code system). For comparison, a multirate system where the lower-rate user sends each symbol twice is implemented and is called as the repeat code system. The repetition as an error-detection code in an ARQ scheme in the repeat code system is also investigated. Moreover, a parallel approach for the optical CDMA systems, which is proposed by Marić et al., is also compared with other systems proposed in this study. Theoretical analysis shows that the bit error probability of the proposed multirate code system is smaller than other systems, especially when the number of lower-rate users is large. Moreover, if there is at least one lower-rate user in the system, the multirate code system accommodates more users than other systems when the error probability of system is set below 10−9.  相似文献

Synchronous fiber-optic CDMA using hard-limiter and BCH codes   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In this paper, synchronons code division multiple access (S/CDMA) for fiber-optic local area networks is considered. The performance of the fiber-optic S/CDMA network with negligible thermal and shot noises is interference limited. Here we derive the bit error rate of the S/CDMA system as a function of code length and number of active users, and the performance characteristics are also discussed. Furthermore, we analyze the performance of the fiber-optic S/CDMA system with an ideal optical hard-limiter, and the error probability with error control coding is also derived. In addition, the optimization between the S/CDMA and BCH codes of a constant bandwidth system is presented. The results show that by using an ideal hard-limiter in conjunction with BCH codes in this system, the influence of interference arising from other users can be greatly reduced, and the number of active users can also be increased significantly  相似文献

New families of spread-spectrum codes are constructed, that are applicable to optical synchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communications as well as to arbitrary-medium time-hopping synchronous CDMA communications. Proposed constructions are based on the mappings from integer sequences into binary sequences. The authors use the concept of number theoretic quadratic congruences and a subset of Reed-Solomon codes similar to the one utilized in the Welch-Costas frequency-hop (FH) patterns. The properties of the codes are as good as or better than the properties of existing codes for synchronous CDMA communications: both the number of code-sequences within a single code family and the number of code families with good properties are significantly increased when compared to the known code designs. Possible applications are presented. To evaluate the performance of the proposed codes, a new class of hit arrays called cyclical hit arrays is recalled, which give insight into the previously unknown properties of the few classes of number theoretic FH patterns. Cyclical hit arrays and the proposed mappings are used to determine the exact probability distribution functions of random variables that represent interference between users of a time-hopping or optical CDMA system. Expressions for the bit error probability in multi-user CDMA systems are derived as a function of the number of simultaneous CDMA system users, the length of signature sequences and the threshold of a matched filter detector. The performance results are compared with the results for some previously known codes  相似文献

On the capacity of a cellular CDMA system   总被引:37,自引:0,他引:37
It is shown that, particularly for terrestrial cellular telephony, the interference-suppression feature of CDMA (code division multiple access) can result in a many-fold increase in capacity over analog and even over competing digital techniques. A single-cell system, such as a hubbed satellite network, is addressed, and the basic expression for capacity is developed. The corresponding expressions for a multiple-cell system are derived. and the distribution on the number of users supportable per cell is determined. It is concluded that properly augmented and power-controlled multiple-cell CDMA promises a quantum increase in current cellular capacity  相似文献

Spread spectrum code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems are currently considered as very attractive alternatives to the more familiar FDMA and TDMA systems, especially in the presence of multipath fading and external interference. The problem of code selection in a CDMA system with a finite number of users is addressed in this paper. A simple and efficient method for the selection of finite code sets with relatively high processing gain from Gold and Kasami code families of relatively large sizes is described in detail. Selected code sets of period 63 are presented along with their overall average performance parameters for different number of users.  相似文献

We propose an orthogonal code hopping multiple access (OCHMA) scheme in order to improve the capacity of an uplink-synchronized code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. When orthogonal codes (OCs) are used for channelization in uplink-synchronized CDMA systems, a finite set of OCs tends to severely limit the capacity gain of the uplink-synchronized CDMA systems. The OCHMA system allows each user to use a different OC for each symbol according to an allocated hopping pattern (HP). It also allows multiple users to use the same OC at a specific symbol time, which is called an HP collision. Thus, the proposed OCHMA scheme can accommodate more users than the number of available OCs. We analyze the capacity of the OCHMA scheme and compare the performance of the OCHMA with that of conventional schemes including the system using multi-scrambling codes (MSC) which have also been proposed to overcome a code-limited situation.  相似文献

Transmitting multiple real-time encoded videos to multiple users over wireless cellular networks is a key driving force for developing broadband technology. We propose a new framework to transmit multiple users' video programs encoded by MPEG-4 FGS codec over downlink multicode CDMA networks in real time. The proposed framework jointly manages the rate adaptation of source and channel coding, CDMA code allocation, and power control. Subject to the limited system resources, such as the number of pseudo-random codes and the maximal power for CDMA transmission, we develop an adaptive scheme of distortion management to ensure baseline video quality for each user and further reduce the overall distortion received by all users. To efficiently utilize system resources, the proposed scheme maintains a balanced ratio between the power and code usages. We also investigate three special scenarios where demand, power, or code is limited, respectively. Compared with existing methods in the literature, the proposed algorithm can reduce the overall system's distortion by 14% to 26%. In the demand-limited case and the code-limited but power-unlimited case, the proposed scheme achieves the optimal solutions. In the power-limited but code-unlimited case, the proposed scheme has a performance very close to a performance upper bound  相似文献

Both m-sequences and Gold sequences have been applied as the pseudonoise (PN) code in the code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme to enable distinct users to simultaneously share the available capacity of a common channel, which is called direct sequence CDMA (DS-CDMA). However, this scheme does not provide the required ideal periodic cross-correlation function property among various members of sequences within the same set. This paper proposes a new perfect Gaussian integer sequence (PGIS)-based CDMA scheme called PGIS-CDMA; in this scheme, the PN code of DS-CDMA is replaced by a set of PGISs. The intrinsic orthogonal property of PGIS can be applied to a CDMA system to achieve perfect cochannel interference separability under the ideal synchronism; it can also be adapted at the receiver to obtain diversity gain and improve the carry-to-interference ratio. These two concepts are further developed to implement two PGIS-CDMA configurations, and they can outperform DS-CDMA on the basis of Gold sequences that possess a favorable cross-correlation property for the CDMA scheme.  相似文献

The forward link of the 3G code‐division multiple‐access (CDMA) system may become limited under the increasing of the number of users. The conventional channelization code, Walsh code, has not enough sizes for much possible users, therefore, the quasi orthogonal function (QOF), which can process optimal cross‐correlation with Walsh code, is considered. To obtain lower correlations and better performance in 3G CDMA system, we investigate a quasi orthogonal function on Jacket matrices in this paper. Secondly, to simplify the detector and improve the bit error rate (BER) performance, we provide a novel detection scheme for QOF CDMA system. Finally, we give a brief discussion about a simple recursive generation of the bent sequences for QOF mask function. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Channel coding for asynchronous fiberoptic CDMA communications   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Several studies have explored the feasibility and systems performance aspects of a code division multiple access (CDMA) format for fiberoptic networks. Previously discussed CDMA architectures would either have to tolerate a high bit error rate or be forced to use long code sequences in networks with even a moderate number of simultaneous users. The use of long sequences lowers the maximum achievable bit rate or places unrealistic requirements on the system hardware. This paper examines some of the possible improvements to system performance that could be realized by combining the CDMA format with external error correcting codes (ECCs) or a PPM format. It is determined that ECCs can be highly effective in lowering the BER, and/or increasing the achievable information bit rate and number of network users. The results are sufficiently encouraging to conclude that one should seriously consider including ECCs in any practical fiberoptic CDMA network  相似文献
