A thermally driven flat plate air gap membrane distillation liquid desiccant regenerator for lithium chloride in dehumidification applications is modeled. Operating conditions and device geometry are optimized, and it is found that membrane materials have little influence on regenerator performance. It is shown that radiation heat transfer across the air gap cannot be neglected. The regenerator removes 11.4 g min?1 cm?3 of moisture with a COP of 0.372 for an inlet solution concentration of 0.38, solution flow rate of 50 ml min?1, and heated solution temperature of 135 °C. This design has negligible desiccant carry-over losses and operates without a blower.  相似文献

An idea that improves the wettability over the surfaces of a cylindrical dehumidifier channel was proposed and experimentally proved. Fibrous sheets were attached to the inner surfaces of the channel. The capillary effect of fibers sustains the complete wetting of the heat and mass transfer surfaces. The air to be dehumidified and cooled flows upward in the annulus space between the two layers of fibrous sheets, which are saturated with the downward flowing desiccant solution. The permeability of the fibrous sheet was determined experimentally. It was 2.43 × 10?10 m2. The measured solution flow rate due to the capillary suction of the sheets was Γin,min = 1.12 kg/h m. The liquid desiccant tested was H2O/CaCl2 with salt concentration ratios ranging from 35 to 40%. The measured distribution of the solution flow rate along the circumference of the sheets at the outlet showed 5% deviation from the average flow rate. This is a good indication for the good wettability of walls inside the dehumidifier.Feeding the solution by this mechanism has many advantages over spray feeding. Beside sustaining complete surface wetting, it also prevents channel blockage with solution, which is a main factor in increasing the air pressure drop. About 95% of the air pressure drop is saved in this study by avoiding these problems. A simple theoretical model for the heat and mass transfer processes inside the dehumidifier was developed and experimentally validated. In general, there is good agreement between the predicted and measured data. The developed model was utilized to study the effect of the different parameters on the dehumidifier performance. For a 1 m height dehumidifier with an inlet specific humidity and air temperature of 0.0234 kgv/kga, and 35 °C, respectively, the predicted outlet air specific humidity was 0.0102 kgv/kgk and the corresponding outlet air temperature was 27.4 °C. The inlet solution temperature and salt concentration were 25 °C and 40%, respectively.  相似文献

An experimental study of a closed-loop impingement spray cooling system to cool a 1 kW 6U electronic test card has been conducted. The system uses R134a as working fluid in a modified refrigeration cycle. The spray from four vapor assisted nozzles is arranged to cover a large ratio of the heated area of the card. Investigations are currently focused on effects of mass flow rate, nozzle inlet pressure and spray chamber pressure. Experimental results are promising with a stable average temperature of around 23 °C being maintained at the heated surface, and maximum temperature variation of about 2 °C under suitable operating conditions. Heat transfer coefficients up to 5596 W/m2 K can be achieved with heat flux input around 50,000 W/m2 in this study. It is found that cooling performance improved with increasing mass flow rate, nozzle inlet pressure and spray chamber pressure, whereas uniformity of the heated surface temperature can only be improved with higher mass flow rate and nozzle inlet pressure. The mechanisms for the enhanced performance are also presented.  相似文献

Experiments on flow boiling heat transfer in high aspect ratio micro-channels with FC-72 were carried out. Three channels with different hydraulic diameters (571, 762 and 1454 μm) and aspect ratios (20, 20 and 10) were selected. The tested mass fluxes were 11.2, 22.4 and 44.8 kg m?2 s?1 and heat fluxes ranging from 0–18.6 kW m?2. In the present study, boiling curves with obvious temperature overshoots are presented. Average heat transfer coefficient and local heat transfer coefficient along stream-wise direction are measured as a function of heat flux and vapour quality respectively. Slug-annular flow and annular flow are the main flow regimes. Convective boiling is found to be the dominant heat transfer mechanism. Local heat transfer coefficient increases with decreasing hydraulic diameter. Moreover, the effect of hydraulic diameter is more significant when mass flux is higher. The unique channel geometry is considered as the decisive reason of the flow regimes as well as heat transfer mechanisms.  相似文献

This experimental study aims to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of single-phase turbulent flow of R-134a refrigerant in a rectangular multi-micro channel heat sink having 27 channels where each channel has a hydraulic diameter of 421 μm. Experimental results were obtained for inlet temperatures ranging from 24 to 33 °C, mass fluxes from 1485 to 2784 kg m 2 s 1 and wall heat fluxes from 3 to 24 kW m 2. The results indicate that the heat transfer coefficients are found to be higher at lower inlet temperatures than those at higher ones. In addition, when equal amount of heat supplied to the heat sink, the heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing the mass flux of refrigerant. They were also compared with 12 well-known correlations and it was seen that 4 of 12 were in good agreement with each other with the average deviation < 10%. The findings demonstrate that well-known correlations in fundamental sources can be used to predict the heat transfer coefficient of R-134a during its single phase flow in a multiport microchannel heat sink under turbulent regime.  相似文献

In the present article the jet impingement cooling of heated portion of a horizontal surface immersed in a thermally non-equilibrium porous layer is considered for investigation numerically with the presence of a cross flow. The mathematical model is derived for steady, two-dimensional laminar flow based on Darcy model and two-energy equation for fluid and solid phases. A parametric study is carried out by varying the following parameters: cross flow to jet flow velocity ratio parameter (0  M  1); porosity scaled thermal conductivity ratio parameter (0.1  Kr  1000); heat transfer coefficient parameter (0.1  H  1000); Péclet number (1  Pe  1000) and Rayleigh number (10  Ra  100). The total average Nusselt number is defined based on the overall thermal conductivity, which is assumed to be the arithmetic mean of the porosity scaled thermal conductivity of the fluid and solid phases. The total average Nusselt number as well as the average Nusselt number for both fluid and solid phases is presented for different governing parameters. It is found that the presence of a weak cross flow in a jet impinging jet may degrade the heat transfer. The results show that the average Nusselt number calculated from the thermal equilibrium model are the maximum possible values and these values can be reproduced by large values of H × Kr.  相似文献

Heat transfer with liquid–vapor phase change in microchannels can support very high heat fluxes for use in applications such as the thermal management of high-performance electronics. However, the effects of channel cross-sectional dimensions on the two-phase heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop have not been investigated extensively. In the present work, experiments are conducted to investigate the local flow boiling heat transfer of a dielectric fluid, Fluorinert FC-77, in microchannel heat sinks. Experiments are performed for mass fluxes ranging from 250 to 1600 kg/m2 s. Seven different test pieces made from silicon and consisting of parallel microchannels with nominal widths ranging from 100 to 5850 μm, all with a nominal depth of 400 μm, are considered. An array of temperature sensors on the substrate allows for resolution of local temperatures and heat transfer coefficients. The results of this study show that for microchannels of width 400 μm and greater, the heat transfer coefficients corresponding to a fixed wall heat flux as well as the boiling curves are independent of channel size. Also, heat transfer coefficients and boiling curves are independent of mass flux in the nucleate boiling region for a fixed channel size, but are affected by mass flux as convective boiling dominates. A strong dependence of pressure drop on both channel size and mass flux is observed. The experimental results are compared to predictions from a number of existing correlations for both pool boiling and flow boiling heat transfer.  相似文献

In this paper, mixed convection flow and heat transfer around a long cylinder of square cross-section under the influence of aiding buoyancy are investigated in the vertical unconfined configuration (Reynolds number, Re = 1–40 and Richardson number, Ri = 0–1). The semi-explicit finite volume method implemented on the collocated grid arrangement is used to solve the governing equations along with the appropriate boundary conditions. The onset of flow separation occurs between Re = 1–2, between Re = 2–3 and between Re = 3–4 for Ri = 0, 0.5 and 1, respectively. The flow is found to be steady for the range of conditions studied here. The friction, pressure and total drag coefficients are found to increase with Richardson number, i.e., as the influence of aiding buoyancy increases drag coefficients increase at the constant value of the Reynolds number. The temperature field around the obstacle is presented by isotherm contours at the Prandtl number of 0.7 (air). The local and average Nusselt numbers are calculated to give a detailed study of heat transfer over each surface of the square cylinder and an overall heat transfer rate and it is found that heat transfer increases with increase in Reynolds number and/or Richardson number. The simple expressions for the wake length and average cylinder Nusselt number are obtained for the range of conditions covered in this work.  相似文献

The effect of pulsed electric fields on two-phase flow patterns, heat transfer and pressure drop in horizontal tube side convective condensation was investigated. Experiments were performed for an applied pulse voltage of 8 kV at pulse repetition rates in the range of 0.5 Hz–1.5 kHz and duty cycles of 25%, 50% and 75%. Three mass fluxes of 55, 100, and 150 kg/m2 s were tested with an average vapour quality of 45% which corresponds to an initially stratified flow. The voltage was applied through a central electrode along the centerline of the tube. Changing the pulse repetition rate and duty cycle results in different flow patterns and therefore in different values of heat transfer and pressure drop. For a given mass flux, the heat transfer enhancement due to the applied voltage decreased with the pulse repetition rate and reached a plateau. The pressure drop ratio, however, increased with pulse repetition rate and reached a maximum before decreasing with a further increase in pulse repetition rate.  相似文献

The boiling in cross-flow is investigated for coated tubes (low-porosity, flame-sprayed) in this paper. The effect of surface roughness on flow boiling heat transfer for a horizontal tube surface in cross-flow is studied for saturated boiling of water at atmospheric pressure. The parameters varied were for flow velocity up to 3.24 kg/s (G = 258.49 kg/m2 s), heat flux from 12 to 45 kW/m2, surface roughness (Ra) from 0.3296 to 4.731 μm. Nominal enhancement in heat transfer coefficient at higher mass flux may be attributed to the continued nucleation at the uppermost surfaces (in the wake region of the flow) of the rougher tubes thereby increasing the overall heat transfer rate. The flow boiling data was found to best fit the Kutateladze asymptotic equation h = hl[1 + (hnpb/hl)n]1/n with the value of n = 2.258 (which is close to the value of n = 2 suggested by Kutateladze).  相似文献

This paper continues the theoretical exploration of the heat and mass transfer in a biporous medium with the coupled phase transformations. A more complicated system is considered, such as porous medium-ice-aqueous solution. General statements been formulated for a simple medium [4], remain in force for the given system: the heat and mass fluxes each depend linearly on all thermodynamical forces, the transport coefficients satisfy the Onsager reciprocal relations; the coupled phase transformations intensify significantly the cross effects. The presence of contaminants in water imparts the osmotic properties to the biporous medium and decreases the rate of the heat and mass transfer in the system. The dissolved matter takes effect beginning with the concentration of ∼0.001 mol l−1. At the high concentration of the aqueous solution (>0.1 mol l−1) the cross effects become negligible small and the medium loses its unique capacities.  相似文献

Transpiration cooling of a nose cone by various foreign gases   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The transpiration cooling mechanisms used for thermal protection of a nose cone was investigated experimentally and numerically for various cooling gases. The effects of injection rates, model geometry, inlet temperature and Reynolds number of the main stream were studied for air, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide and helium. The experiments used a hot gas wind tunnel with T = 375 K and 425 K and Re = 4630–10,000. The experimental results indicated that even a small amount of coolant injection drastically reduced the heat transfer from the hot gases with the cooling effectiveness increasing with increasing injection rate, although the increases became smaller as the gas injection rate was further increased. The temperature and cooling effectiveness distribution along the transpiration surface of the nose cone model exhibited similar tendencies for all the coolants employed in present experimental research. The temperature decreased from the stagnation point towards the downstream region, then increased because of the non-uniform mass flow distribution of the coolant and thermal conduction from the metal backplane, whereas the cooling effectiveness variation was the reverse. The local cooling effectivenesses and thermal capacities were found to depend on the coolant thermophysical properties. Two-dimensional numerical simulations using the RNG κ?ε turbulence model for the main stream flow and the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer momentum equations and thermal equilibrium model for the porous zone compared well with the general features in the experiments.  相似文献

Flow boiling of the perfluorinated dielectric fluid FC-77 in a silicon microchannel heat sink is investigated. The heat sink contains 60 parallel microchannels each of 100 μm width and 389 μm depth. Twenty-five evenly distributed temperature sensors in the substrate yield local heat transfer coefficients. The pressure drop across the channels is also measured. Experiments are conducted at five flow rates through the heat sink in the range of 20–80 ml/min with the inlet subcooling held at 26 K in all the tests. At each flow rate, the uniform heat input to the substrate is increased in steps so that the fluid experiences flow regimes from single-phase liquid flow to the occurrence of critical heat flux (CHF). In the upstream region of the channels, the flow develops from single-phase liquid flow at low heat fluxes to pulsating two-phase flow at high heat fluxes during flow instability that commences at a threshold heat flux in the range of 30.5–62.3 W/cm2 depending on the flow rate. In the downstream region, progressive flow patterns from bubbly flow, slug flow, elongated bubbles or annular flow, alternating wispy-annular and churn flow, and wall dryout at highest heat fluxes are observed. As a result, the heat transfer coefficients in the downstream region experience substantial variations over the entire heat flux range, based on which five distinct boiling regimes are identified. In contrast, the heat transfer coefficient midway along the channels remains relatively constant over the heat flux range tested. Due to changes in flow patterns during flow instability, the heat transfer is enhanced both in the downstream region (prior to extended wall dryout) and in the upstream region. A previous study by the authors found no effect of instabilities during flow boiling in a heat sink with larger microchannels (each 300 μm wide and 389 μm deep); it appears therefore that the effect of instabilities on heat transfer is amplified in smaller-sized channels. While CHF increases with increasing flow rate, the pressure drop across the channels has only a minimal dependence on flow rate once boiling is initiated in the microchannels, and varies almost linearly with increasing heat flux.  相似文献

Experiments are conducted here to investigate subcooled flow boiling heat transfer and associated bubble characteristics of FC-72 on a heated micro-pin-finned silicon chip flush-mounted on the bottom of a horizontal rectangular channel. In the experiments the mass flux is varied from 287 to 431 kg/m2 s, coolant inlet subcooling from 2.3 to 4.3 °C, and imposed heat flux from 1 to 10 W/cm2. Besides, the silicon chips contain three different geometries of micro-structures, namely, the smooth, pin-finned 200 and pin-finned 100 surfaces. The pin-finned 200 and 100 surfaces, respectively, contain micro-pin-fins of size 200 μm × 200 μm × 70 μm (width × length × height) and 100 μm × 100 μm × 70 μm. The measured data show that the subcooled flow boiling heat transfer coefficient is reduced at increasing inlet liquid subcooling but is little affected by the coolant mass flux. Besides, adding the micro-pin-fin structures to the chip surface can effectively raise the single-phase convection and flow boiling heat transfer coefficients. Moreover, the mean bubble departure diameter and active nucleation site density are reduced for rises in the FC-72 mass flux and inlet liquid subcooling. Increasing coolant mass flux or reducing inlet liquid subcooling results in a higher mean bubble departure frequency. Furthermore, larger bubble departure diameter, higher bubble departure frequency, and higher active nucleation site density are observed as the imposed heat flux is increased. Finally, empirical correlations for the present data for the heat transfer and bubble characteristics in the FC-72 subcooled flow boiling are proposed.  相似文献

Predictions of flow and heat transfer in microchannels are ongoing issues in microfludics. This work focused on laminar flow (69 < Re < 800) within rectangular microchannel with hydraulic diameter from 106 μm to 307 μm for single-phase liquid flow. The friction factors obtained by experiments on the microchannels showed that conventional theory for fully-developed flow is applicable within the range of our experiments. A manifold configuration which ensured uniform flow through the microchannel array is thought to contribute to the improvement of accuracy. The average Nusselt number for the microchannel array was also evaluated experimentally in the condition of constant heat transfer rate. We found that there were deviations between the experimental and theoretical values of heat transfer rate in the microchannels. In order to predict heat transfer rate accurately, we proposed an empirical correlation in terms of Nu/(Re0.62 Pr0.33) and Brinkman number confined to the experimental range. The correlation is expected to be useful to design the microchannel devices related to heat transfer.  相似文献

Natural convection heat transfer of heated packed bed was investigated. Experiments were performed for a single heated sphere buried in unheated packed beds varying its locations and for packed beds with all heated spheres varying the heights of packed beds from 0.02 m to 0.26 m. Mass transfer experiments using a copper electroplating system were performed based upon the analogy between heat and mass transfer. The diameter of sphere was 0.006 m, which corresponds to Rad of 1.8 × 107. For the single heated sphere cases, the measured results agreed well with the existing natural convection heat transfer correlations for packed beds and even with those for a single sphere in an open channel. For all heated sphere cases, the average heat transfers decrease with increasing packed bed heights.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of micro motion of particles under the action of thermophoresis in aqueous electrolyte solution is presented in this paper. A two-dimensional, incompressible and laminar fluid flow model is proposed to simulate the fluid flow and particle motion trajectory in micro-channel. The effects of thermophoretic force and viscous force on the particle are calculated. The particle trajectories considering the effects of particle size, inlet flow velocity and temperature difference between bottom side and top side in micro-channel with a length of 2000 μm and a height of 500 μm are simulated. The effect of thermophoresis on separation motion of particles in micro-channel is analyzed. The results show that thermophoretic force increases with the increase of temperature gradient in micro-channel and particles with smaller diameter, smaller density and smaller gravity acceleration can pass the micro-channel more easily.  相似文献

A numerical investigation is conducted to predict the thermal and hydraulic performances of the microchannel heat sink (MCHS) with different geometric parameters of triangular rib in the transverse microchamber. The parametric variables of width, length and height of the triangular rib are studied to find optimum design. The flow structure and characteristics of the interrupted MCHS are interpreted in details. The dimensionless ratios of average Nusselt number, friction factor and thermal enhancement factor are evaluated. It is found that the heat transfer rate is increasing with the increase of rib width and height, but decreasing with the increase of rib length. The boundary layer interruption and redevelopment effects introduced by the triangular rib are discussed. The results of thermal enhancement factor reveals an optimum geometrical parameters for the triangular rib with width = 100 μm, length = 400 μm and height = 120 μm for about Reynolds number of 500, yielding 43% enhancement relative to non-interrupted rectangular MCHS at equal pumping power. The results of mean Nusselt number ratio reveal an optimum enhancement of 56% relative to non-interrupted MCHS.  相似文献

In the present paper, a systematic investigation on numerical modeling of variable-property microchannel flows with electro-thermo-hydrodynamic interactions is presented. General variable-property electro-thermal flow model consisting of mass, momentum, energy, electric potential and ions transport equations in dimensionless form is formulated and employed to study transport phenomena in microchannel flows. The major concerns are: (1) evaluation of the model approximations such as equilibrium ion distribution, constant-property and/or small zeta potential for non-overlap electric double layer (EDL); (2) the electro-thermo-hydrodynamic interactions under conditions of strong EDL effects, and (3) differences in microchannel flow characteristics at driving conditions of constant pressure gradient (CPG) and constant flow rate (CFR). Variations of fluid, transport and electric properties with local temperature and/or ion concentration are considered. The present results demonstrate that the variable-property model with Poisson–Boltzmann potential is an appropriate approximation for transport phenomena in microchannel flows. The results also disclose that, compared to those in CPG flows based on the same Reynolds number, effects of temperature non-uniformity and variable-property are relatively more pronounced in the CFR flows. At either CPG or CFR condition, heat transfer performance changes little with the variations of electric and flow parameters in this low Reynolds number (Re = 0.1) flow; while electric and flow fields can be significantly affected by variation of the governing parameters.  相似文献

The rapid increase of heat flux in high performance electronic devices has necessitated the development of high capacity thermal management techniques that can support extremely high heat transfer rates. Flow boiling in microgap is very promising for this purpose due to its high heat transfer rate and ease of fabrication. However, the effects of microgap dimension on heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics along with flow visualization have not been investigated extensively. This paper focuses on flow boiling experiments of deionized water in silicon microgap heat sink for ten different microgap dimensions from a range of 80 μm–1000 μm to determine the most effective and efficient range of microgap dimensions based on heat transfer and pressure drop performance. High speed flow visualization is conducted simultaneously along with experiments to illustrate the bubble characteristics in the boiling flow in microgap. The results of this study show that confinement in flow boiling occurs for microgap sizes 500 μm and below and confined slug/annular flow is the main dominant regime whereas physical confinement does not occur for microgap sizes 700 μm and above and bubbly flow is the dominant flow regime. The microgap is ineffective below 100 μm as partial dryout strikes very early and the wall temperature is much higher for a fixed heat flux as microgap size increases above 500 μm. In addition, results show that pressure drop and pressure fluctuation decrease with the increases of gap size whereas wall temperature and wall temperature fluctuation increase with the increases of gap size. A strong dependence of heat transfer coefficient on microgap sizes is observed for microgap sizes 500 μm and below. However, the heat transfer coefficient is independent of microgap size for microgap sizes 700 μm and above.  相似文献
