AT&T无线被收购掀起美国移动通信市场的并购热潮

2004年2月17日,美国第二大移动通信运营商Cingular无线以410亿美元的出价击败对手沃达丰,成功收购AT＆T无线公司.AT＆T无线被收购后,美国的移动市场竞争激烈的局面可略有缓解,运营商可以得到一定的喘息空间,来提高网络服务质量,调整服务价格以及增强公司的创新能力.但AT&T无线的消失也使美国移动通信领域的竞争减弱,客户们可能会面对移动业务价格上涨的趋势.而AT＆T无线的收购更会在美国无线市场掀起一股新的重组热潮.     

从AT&T分家说起

前两日有报道称,美国韦里孙无线公司宣布将斥资281亿美元收购移动运营商奥特尔公司,合并后的新公司将超过AT＆T,成为全美最大移动通信运营商。这勾起了我的一段回忆。     

AT＆T：移动将成为宽带争夺战中的关键

随着美国宽带市场竞争的日趋白热化，美国的电信运营商正在试图利用自已的传统优势移动来增强自身的竞争力。美国移动通信运营商AT＆T无线公司的首席执行官Ralph de la Vega近日在一次会议上发表意见称一移动将成为电信运营商在宽带争夺站中的关键武器。     

AT＆T欲竞购Verizon无线部分资产

2月4日,国外媒体报道称,AT＆T正参与竞购Verizon无线的部分移动资产,这一做法引起了包括中小规模电信运营商和公众利益团体在内的反对者的不满。去年末,Verizon无线凭借收购Alltel成为美国第一大移动运营商。     

FCC批准两项重要并购案交易或将改变美国移动市场格局

美国联邦通信委员会（FCC）日前先后批准了Verizon无线收购Alltel公司Sprint Nextel收购Clearwire两项有可能改变美国移动市场格局的重要交易。前一项交易将使Verizon无线取代AT＆T,成为美国市场上最大的移动运营商。

Cingular并购将重塑美无线业

2月18日,Cingular击败沃达丰公司,以410亿美元的出价成功收购了AT&T无线,《华尔街日报》Cingular夺标将重塑美国无线业格局。两家全球最大的无线公司在对AT＆T无线的公开竞标中进行了整整四天的角逐。周一晚间,英国的沃达丰空中通讯公司(Vodafone Group PLC)     

三、美国运营商

AT＆T公司曾经是美国电信市场最大的公司，1984年，在美国政府反垄断政策的强制干预下，公司被拆分重新组建成了7个子公司。1996年，AT＆T又将通讯设备制造部门和贝尔实验室分离出去，成立了朗讯技术公司。2000年10月25日AT＆T公司又一次重组，成立了4家新公司，分别是AT＆T商业服务公司、AT＆T消费者服务公司、AT＆T无线通信服务公司和AT＆T宽带公司。后将无线公司与宽带公司剥离出去。现在的AT＆T公司的主营业务是固定与长途业务。

A Novel Multimedia Streaming Scheme for N-Screen Services in Wireless USB Networks

Ultra wideband (UWB) technology has emerged as a solution for the wireless interface between medical sensors and a personal server in future telemedicine systems. Wireless universal serial bus (USB) is the USB technology merged with UWB technology. Wireless USB can be applied to wireless personal area network applications as well as personal area network applications like wired USB. In case of n-screen service applications, data traffics must broadcast to the adjacent devices However, the current wireless USB is designed to support the communication through the point-to-point connection between the host and the device only. This policy increases delay and energy consumption of wireless host and devices significantly. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel multimedia streaming scheme for n-screen service in wireless USB networks. The simulation results show that proposed protocol can enhance the throughput and delay performance and improve energy efficiency by minimizing the multimedia data delivery process.

Will the hotspot hype go cold? [wireless LAN]

Wireless LAN (local area network) hotspots for public Internet access are springing up everywhere. In the UK, BT Openzone is aiming for 4000 hotspots and WLAN revenues of #31m by 2005. T-Mobile wants to install 3000 this year, partly through a deal with the US coffee house Starbucks. Intel is partnering with UK slot-machine operator Leisure Link, BT and Ericsson to install 30,000 in pubs and clubs.
