A study of reduced complexity concatenated coding schemes, for commercial digital satellite systems with low-cost earth terminals, is reported. The study explored trade-offs between coding gain, overall rate and decoder complexity, and compared concatenated schemes with single codes. It concentrated on short block and constraint length inner codes, with soft decision decoding, concatenated with a range of Reed-Solomon outer codes. The dimension of the inner code was matched to the outer code symbol size, and appropriate interleaving between the inner and outer codes was used. Very useful coding gains were achieved with relatively high-rate, low-complexity schemes. For example, concatenating the soft decision decoded (9,8) single parity check inner code with the CCSDS recommended standard Reed-Solomon outer code gives a coding gain of 4.8dB at a bit error probability of 10?5, with an overall rate of 0-78. 相似文献

Encoding and decoding schemes for concatenated multilevel block codes are presented. By one of these structures, a real coding gain of 5.6-7.4 dB for the bit error range of 10-6 to 10-9 is achieved for transmission through the additive white Gaussian noise channel. Also, a rather large asymptotic coding gain is obtained. The new coding schemes have very low decoding complexity and increased coding gain in comparison with the conventional block and trellis coded modulation structures. In this paper, the performance of a concatenated coding scheme for error control in ARQ systems is analyzed for both randomerror and burst-error channels. In particular, the probability of undetected error and the system throughput are calculated. In this scheme, the inner code is used for both error correction and error detection, and the outer code is used for error detection only. Interleaving/deinterleaving of the outer code is assumed. A retransmission is requested if either the inner code or the outer code detects the Presence of errors. Various coding examples are considered. The results show that concatenated coding can provide extremely high system reliability (i.e., low probability of undetected error) and high system throughput. 相似文献

The deployment of channel coding and interleaving to enhance the bit-error performance of a satellite mobile radio channel is addressed for speech and data transmissions. Different convolutional codes (CC) using Viterbi decoding with soft decision are examined with inter-block interleaving. Reed-Solomon (RS) codes with Berlekamp-Massey hard decision decoding or soft decision trellis decoding combined with block interleaving are also investigated. A concatenated arrangement employing RS and CC coding as the outer and inner coders, respectively, is used for transmissions via minimum shift keying (MSK) over Gaussian and Rayleigh fading channels. For an interblock interleaving period of 2880 bits, a concatenated arrangement of an RS(48,36). over the Galois field GF(256) and punctured PCC(3,1,7) yielding an overall coding rate of 1/2, provides a coding gain of 42dB for a BER of 10?6, and an uncorrectable error detection probability of 1–10?9. 相似文献

It is known that concatenated coding can significantly enhance the performance of digital communication systems operating over fading channels when compared to uncoded or single-coded systems. The price to be paid for such an improvement, however, is a substantial increase in the required bandwidth. In this paper, we consider the use of a concatenation scheme in which the inner code is a trellis-coded modulation (TCM) system. The analysis is carried out for two different outer codes: a binary Golay code and a non-binary Reed-Solomon code. Results obtained for the Rayleigh and Rician fading channels through analytical bounds indicate that the use of this system does provide a significant reduction in the bit error probability, a fact that is also verified through computer simulation. Unlike a traditional concatenated system, the proposed method achieves the coding gain while maintaining acceptable bandwidth efficiency. 相似文献

The development of sophisticated adaptive source coding algorithms together with inherent error sensitivity problems fostered the need for efficient space communication at very low bit error probilbilities(leq 10^{-6}) . This led to the specification and implementation of a concatenated coding system using an interleaved Reed-Solomon code as the outer code and a Viterbi-decoded convolutionai code as the inner code. This paper presents the experimental results of this channel coding system under an emulatedS -band uplink andX -band downlink two-way space communication channel, where both uplink and downlink have strong carrier power. Test results verify that at a bit error probability of 10-6or less, this concatenated coding system does provide a coding gain of 2.5 dB or more over the viterbi-decoded convolutional-only coding system. These tests also show that a desirable interleaving depth for the Reed-Solomon outer code is 8 or more. The imptict of this "virtually" error-free space communication link on the transmission of images is discussed and examples of Simulation results are given. 相似文献

In this letter, we investigate serial and hybrid concatenated space-time (SC-ST and HC-ST) codes applying iterative decoding topologies. The coding operations are based on the concatenation of convolutional coding, interleaving, and space-time coding along with a multiple-transmitter/multiple-receiver diversity system. Through the analysis of the SC-ST and HC-ST coding systems, improved design specifications can be selected for the component encoders with considerations of the wireless channel characteristics. Based on the iterative decoding process and the optimum parameter selection operations, a considerable improvement in the error rate performance is obtained. For the applied specs, the results indicate that at the frame error rate (FER) 10−2 level the SC-ST coding system provides a coding gain of approximately 3 dB in comparison to the Tarokh, Seshadri, Calderbank (TSC) space-time (ST) code [1], where the HC-ST coding system provides an additional coding gain of approximately 1 dB beyond the SC-ST code. 相似文献

A serially concatenated code with interleaver consists of the cascade of an outer encoder, an interleaver permuting the outer codewords bits, and an inner encoder whose input words are the permuted outer codewords. The construction can be generalized to h cascaded encoders separated by h-1 interleavers. We obtain upper bounds to the average maximum-likelihood bit error probability of serially concatenated block and convolutional coding schemes. Then, we derive design guidelines for the outer and inner encoders that maximize the interleaver gain and the asymptotic slope of the error probability curves. Finally, we propose a new, low-complexity iterative decoding algorithm. Throughout the paper, extensive comparisons with parallel concatenated convolutional codes known as “turbo codes” are performed, showing that the new scheme can offer superior performance 相似文献

首先从理论上分析了硬判决译码算法和软判决译码算法的性能然后对BCH(Bose,Ray-Chaudhuri,Hocquenghem)码的网格结构以及BCJR(Bahl,Cocke,Jelinek and Raviv)算法进行了详细地分析及推导。实验结果表明,在光信道环境中,在误比特率为10-5时,当仅提高最小汉明距离码率相同或者仅减小码率最小汉明距离相同时,BCJR算法相对于硬判决译码算法的编码增益分别在之前的编码增益基础上又增加了0.15dB和0.25dB。因此设计级联码方案时,应尽可能选择纠错能力较大的内码。此外也可以采用适当增加内码的冗余度相应减小外码的冗余度的方法,在获得更高的编码增益的同时保证整个系统的带宽利用率不变。 相似文献

Signal editing (SE) is a technique used to locate and erase unreliable data before error correction decoding. Consider a concatenated coding (CC) communication system in which the inner code employs convolutional encoding with Viterbi decoding (CEVD) and the outer code could employ either a convolutional or a Reed-Solomon code. In this study, we show that useful information can be derived from the inner Viterbi decoding process to perform two special operations: (i) to locate and erase unreliable decoded data and (ii) to estimate the input channel noise level. As a result, the number of errors input to the outer decoder is reduced and the overall CC system performance is improved. 相似文献

Trellis coded modulation (TCM) is a bandwidth efficient transmission scheme that can achieve high coding gain by integrating coding and modulation. This paper presents an analytical expression for the error event probability of concatenated space-time block coding with TCM which reveals some dominant factors affecting the system performance over slow fading channels when perfect interleavers are used. This leads to establishing the design criteria for constructing the optimal trellis codes of such a concatenated system over slow flat fading channels. Through simulation, significant performance improvement is shown to be obtained by concatenating the interleaved streams of these codes with space-time block codes over fading channels. Simulation results also demonstrate that these trellis codes have better error performance than traditional codes designed for single-antenna Gaussian or fading channels. Performance results over quasi-static fading channels without interleaving are also compared in this paper. Furthermore, it is shown that concatenated space-time block coding with TCM (with/without interleaving) outperforms space-time trellis codes under the same spectral efficiency, trellis complexity, and signal constellation. 相似文献

Bandwidth efficient modulation schemes using Reed-Solomon (RS) codes are proposed for hybrid in-band-on-channel (IBOC) systems that broadcast digital audio signals simultaneously with analog amplitude modulation (AM) programs in the AM band. Since both the power and bandwidth allocated for digital audio transmission are limited in this application, the system cannot afford to add enough redundancy for error control using conventional concatenated coding schemes.
