目前,网络的发展进入了一个新阶段,通信网正逐步向以分组交换为基础的新型网络方向发展。现有的公用交换电话网(PSTN),采用的是电路交换技术,要通过IP网络通信,则需要与IP网互通,包括业务互通和信令互通。由于七号信令网在今后很长一段时间内仍将是通信网的主要信令系统,要实现PSTN与IP网的融合,必然首先要实现七号信令系统与IP网的融合,即,要实现七号信令通过IP网的传输。为了使七号信令能在IP网上传输,从软件到硬件,从协议体系到结构功能,从工作方式到性能要求,都需要有相应的发展。其中比较重要的技术包括SIGT…  相似文献

This article presents an overview of the main technical problems to be addressed for the provision of interoperable services between IP telephony and the PSTN. The pivotal element of the solution resides in an interworking function. This function is typically implemented in a gateway whose requirements and behavior are here analyzed in terms of signaling and control protocols (control plane) as well as user data transfer (user plane). The presentation is structured around these two planes. The control plane defines the set of signaling protocols to be used in each networking context and the translation between them. Detailed scenarios illustrate the signal translation in the gateway allowing for the establishment of a hybrid phone call. The user plane is responsible for adapting the user data to the properties of each network channel and determines the quality of service of the voice call in terms of delay and speech quality  相似文献

Signaling has been one of the key areas of Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies since inception. H.323 was the key protocol that allowed interoperability of VoIP products and moved the industry away from the initial proprietary solutions. Once the VoIP industry started maturing, some limitations of H.323 came to light. In this article we provide an overview of H.323, describe its capabilities, and discuss how its limitations are being addressed using the concept of gateway decomposition. We also discuss how H.323 can coexist with other protocols such as MGCP, H.248, and SIP which are attracting a lot of interest in the VoIP industry today  相似文献

This article discusses technical issues related to delivery of multimedia services, such as video-on-demand, over heterogeneous networking environments. In particular, it describes the design and implementation of an experimental system for multimedia service interworking between a DAVIC (Digital Audio Visual Council) domain and an Internet domain. The system, called MIDDLEMEN (middlemen for multimedia environment), consists of the broker and the interworking unit, which work together to provide multimedia services across different types of networks in a seamless manner. The broker acts as a guide to multimedia services, and complements servers or clients that are not equipped with full functionality. The broker also controls the resources in MIDDLEMEN. The interworking unit performs various translation functions under the control of the broker, including stream transport protocol conversion, traffic monitoring and bit-rate control, service gateway conversion, and stream control conversion. This article presents a new approach for wireless service providers to offer data services by taking advantage of the existing infrastructure for voice services and interworking with existing wireline-based data services. The article presents a framework: for interworking between any wireless radio system and any data application on the wireline network. The interworking is provided by a common interworking function that uses a generic interworking control protocol (ICP). Any radio system capable of using the ISDN-based C-interface and implementing ICP can take advantage of the proposed approach. ICP is a generic protocol and can be implemented using different networks. The article considers an ISDN network for the lower-layer transport of ICP. The authors show how to design communication networks that are based upon the generic signaling protocol (GSP see ibid., vol.40, no.5, p.957-66, 1992), a simple but powerful connection management protocol. They define the output of a switching system that has multiple GSP interfaces, both its switching output and its event notification output. The behavior of an entity that provides transparent GSP networking is specified and the messages exchanged during an example interswitch call are listed. Also discussed is a scheme that allows a network to evolve its interswitch signaling gradually toward GSP, and to continue to support older network access protocols (e.g. DTMF and Q.931). The advantageous capabilities of GSP are enumerated by comparing GSP to the initial set of ISDN call setup protocols and X.25  相似文献

A PC‐based transparent gateway for interconnecting Bluetooth Piconets and IP local area networks (LAN) was designed in our research. The essential function of this designed Bluetooth‐IP gateway is to achieve a seamless integration among home appliances, networking elements and multi‐systems using the address resolution protocol (ARP) and connection management scheme. The key techniques developed, as well as the performance analysis in terms of queue length, loss rate, throughput and transmission delay are explored in this research. The results allow us to determine the value of the optimal command and infer the maximum queue length requirements such that the service quality is kept at an acceptance level. Safe and effective error rate monitors for SS7 signaling links   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper describes SS7 error monitor characteristics, discusses the existing SUERM (signal unit error rate monitor), and develops the recently proposed EIM (error interval monitor) for higher speed SS7 links. A SS7 error monitor is considered safe if it ensures acceptable link quality and is considered effective if it is tolerant to short-term phenomena. Formal criteria for safe and effective error monitors are formulated. This paper develops models of changeover transients, the unstable component of queue length resulting from errors. These models are in the form of recursive digital filters. Time is divided into sequential intervals. The filter's input is the number of errors which have occurred in each interval. The output is the corresponding change in transmit queue length. Engineered EIMs are constructed by comparing an estimated changeover transient with a threshold T using a transient model modified to enforce SS7 standards. When this estimate exceeds T, a changeover will be initiated and the link will be removed from service. EIMs can be differentiated from SUERM by the fact that EIMs monitor errors over an interval while SUERMs count errored messages. EIM offer several advantages over SUERMs, including the fact that they are safe and effective, impose uniform standards in link quality, are easily implemented, and make minimal use of real-time resources  相似文献

WiMAX, a fourth-generation wireless-access technology, has made significant progress both in the standard forums and with wireless network carriers. To ensure service continuity to a legacy end user, it is important for a WiMAX mobile device to interwork with existing thirdgeneration access networks before it is uniquely and ubiquitously deployed. This article addresses this issue and shows how interworking can be achieved with EVDO wireless-access technology, using mobile IP in a dual mode terminal.
