In this paper a finite interface crack with constant length (Yoffe-type crack) propagating along the interface between two dissimilar functionally graded strips with spatially varying elastic properties under in-plane loading is studied. By utilizing the Fourier transformation technique, the mixed boundary problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations that are solved numerically. The influences of the geometric parameters, the graded parameter, the strip thickness and crack speed on the stress intensity factors and the probable kink angle are investigated. The numerical results show that the graded parameters, the thicknesses of the functionally graded strips and the crack speed have significant effects on the dynamic fracture behavior of functionally graded material structures.  相似文献

The main objective of this study is to examine the three dimensional surface crack problems in functionally graded coatings subjected to mode I mechanical or transient thermal loading. The surface cracks are assumed to have a semi-elliptical crack front profile of arbitrary aspect ratio. The cracks are embedded in the functionally graded material (FGM) coating which is perfectly bonded to a homogeneous substrate. A three dimensional finite element method is used to solve the thermal and structural problems. Collapsed 20-node isoparametric elements are utilized to simulate the strain singularity around the crack front. The stress intensity factors are computed by using the displacement correlation technique. Four different coating types are considered in the analyses which have homogeneous, ceramic-rich (CR), metal-rich (MR) and linear variation (LN) material composition profiles. In the mechanical loading problems, the composite medium is assumed to be subjected to fixed-grip tension or three point bending. In the thermal analysis, a transient residual stress problem is considered. The stress intensity factors calculated for FGM plates are in good agreement with the previously published results on three dimensional surface cracks. The new results provided show that maximum stress intensity factors computed during transient thermal loading period for the FGM coatings are lower than those of the homogeneous ceramic ones.  相似文献

This paper presents the mode I stress intensity factors for functionally graded solid cylinders with an embedded penny-shaped crack or an external circumferential crack. The solid cylinders are assumed under remote uniform tension. The multiple isoparametric finite element method is used. Various types of functionally graded materials and different gradient compositions for each type are investigated. The results show that the material property distribution has a quite considerable influence on the stress intensity factors. The influence for embedded cracks is quite different from that for external cracks.  相似文献

A new computational method based on the equivalent domain integral (EDI) is developed for mode I fracture analysis of orthotropic functionally graded materials (FGMs) subjected to thermal stresses. By using the constitutive relations of plane orthotropic thermoelasticity, generalized definition of the J-integral is converted to an equivalent domain integral to calculate the thermal stress intensity factor. In the formulation of the EDI approach, all the required thermomechanical properties are assumed to have continuous spatial variations through the functionally graded medium. Developed methodology is integrated into a fracture mechanics research finite element code FRAC2D using graded finite elements that possess cubic interpolation. Steady-state and transient temperature distribution profiles in orthotropic FGMs are computed using the finite elements based heat transfer analysis software HEAT2D. EDI method is validated and domain independence is demonstrated by comparing the numerical results obtained using EDI to those calculated by an enriched finite element method and to those available in the literature. Single and periodic edge crack problems in orthotropic FGMs are examined in order to study the influences of principal thermal expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity components, relative crack length and crack periodicity on the thermal stress intensity factors. Numerical results show that among the three principal thermal expansion coefficient components, the in-plane component perpendicular to the crack axis has the most significant influence on the mode I stress intensity factor. Gradation profile of the thermal expansion coefficient parallel to the crack axis is shown to have no effect on the outcome of the fracture analysis.  相似文献

The mixed-mode thermoelectromechanical fracture problem for a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) strip with a penny-shaped crack is considered. It is assumed that the thermoelectroelastic properties of the strip vary continuously along the thickness of the strip, and that the strip is under thermal loading. The crack faces are supposed to be insulated thermally and electrically. The thermal and electromechanical problems are reduced to singular integral equations and solved numerically. The stress and electric displacement intensity factors are presented for different crack size, crack position and material nonhomogeneity.  相似文献

A functionally graded magnetoelectroelastic material layer bonded to a homogeneous elastic substrate is investigated. The functionally graded magnetoelectroelastic layer contains a surface crack that is perpendicular to the surface of the medium. The structure is subjected to anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electric and magnetic loads, the crack problem involves the anti-plane elastic field coupled with the in-plane electric and magnetic field. The elastic layer can be an ideal insulator or an ideal conductor. Integral transform and dislocation density functions are employed to reduce the problem to the solution of a system of singular integral equations. Numerical results show the influences of the material gradient parameter and crack configuration on field intensity factors and energy release rates of the functionally graded magnetoelectroelastic coating-homogeneous elastic substrate structure.  相似文献

The thermal fracture problem of an interface crack between a graded orthotropic coating and the homogeneous substrate is investigated by two different approaches. For the case that most of the material properties in the graded orthotropic coating are assumed to vary as an exponential function, the integral transform and singular integral equation technique is used to obtain some analytical results. In order to analyze the case with more complex material distribution, an interaction integral is presented to evaluate the thermal stress intensity factors of cracked functionally graded materials (FGMs), and then the element-free Galerkin method (EFGM) is developed to obtain the final numerical results. The good agreement is obtained between the numerical results and the analytical ones. In addition, the influence of material gradient parameters and material distribution on the thermal fracture behavior is also presented.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the thermal fracture problem of a functionally graded orthotropic strip, where the crack is situated parallel to the free edges. All the material properties are assumed to be dependent only on the coordinate y (perpendicular to the crack surfaces). By using Fourier transform, the thermoelastic problem is reduced to those that involve a system of singular integral equations. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of the crack position and the material distribution on the thermal stress intensity factors.  相似文献

Investigated is the anti-plane problem of functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic strip sandwiched between two functionally graded strips. It is assumed that the material properties vary exponentially with the coordinate parallel to the crack. The crack is assumed to be either magneto-electrically impermeable or permeable. Fourier transforms are used to reduce the crack problems to a system of singular integral equations, which is solved numerically by application of the Gauss–Chebyshev integration formula. Numerical results show the effects of the material gradient parameter and crack configuration on the field intensity factors of the crack.  相似文献

Transient response of a penny-shaped crack in a plate of a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) is studied under thermal shock loading conditions. It is assumed that the thermoelectroelastic properties of the strip vary continuously along the thickness of the strip, and that the crack faces are completely insulated. By using both the Laplace and Hankel transforms, the thermal and electromechanical problems are reduced to a singular integral equation and a system of singular integral equations which are solved numerically. The intensity factors vs. time for various crack size, crack position and material nonhomogeneity are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of a functionally graded coating bonded to a homogeneous substrate with a partially insulated interface crack between the two materials subject to both thermal and mechanical loading. The problem is solved under the assumption of plane strain and generalized plane stress conditions. The heat conduction and the plane elasticity equations are converted analytically into singular integral equations which are solved numerically to yield the temperature and the displacement fields in the medium as well as the crack tip stress intensity factors. A crack-closure algorithm recently developed by the authors is applied to handle the problem of having negative mode I stress intensity factors. The Finite Element Method was additionally used to model the crack problem and to compute the crack-tip stress intensity factors. The main objective of the paper is to study the effect of the material nonhomogeneity parameters, partial insulation of the crack surfaces and crack-closure on the crack tip stress intensity factors for the purpose of gaining better understanding of the thermo-mechanical behavior of graded coatings.  相似文献

The dynamic fracture behavior of a functionally graded coating–substrate system with an internal crack perpendicular to the interface is studied under an in-plane impact load. The structure consists of a functionally graded coating and a semi-infinite homogeneous substrate. The crack is located in the functionally graded coating. The mixed boundary value problem is formulated analytically by use of integral transform techniques and singular integral equation. The influences of material constants and the geometry parameters on the dynamic stress intensity factors (SIFs) are studied.  相似文献

In this paper, the Fourier integral transform–singular integral equation method is presented for the problem of a periodic array of cracks in a functionally graded piezoelectric strip bonded to a different functionally graded piezoelectric material. The properties of two materials, such as elastic modulus, piezoelectric constant and dielectric constant, are assumed in exponential forms and vary along the crack direction. The crack surface condition is assumed to be electrically impermeable or permeable. The mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a singular integral equation over crack by applying the Fourier transform and the singular integral equation is solved numerically by using the Lobatto–Chebyshev integration technique. The analytic expressions of the stress intensity factors and the electric displacement intensity factors are derived. The effects of the loading parameter λ, material constants and the geometry parameters on the stress intensity factor, the energy release ratio and the energy density factor are studied.  相似文献

A periodic array of cracks in an infinite functionally graded material under transient mechanical loading is investigated. In-plane normal (mode I) and shear (mode II) loading conditions are considered. For each individual loading mode, a singular integral equation is derived, in which the crack surface displacements are unknown functions. Numerical results are obtained to illustrate the variation of the stress intensity factors as a function of the crack periodicity for different values of material inhomogeneity, either at the transient state or steady state. The material inhomogeneity can increase or decrease the mode I and mode II stress intensity factors. Compared with the single crack solution, it is also shown that multiple cracking may decrease the mode I stress intensity factors, but enhance the mode II stress intensity factors significantly.  相似文献

A mixed-mode thermoelectroelastic fracture problem of a functionally graded piezoelectric material strip containing two parallel axisymmetric cracks, such as penny-shaped or annular cracks, is considered in this study. It is assumed that the thermoelectroelastic properties of the strip vary continuously along the thickness of the strip and that the strip is under thermal loading. The crack faces are supposed to be insulated thermally and electrically. Using integral transform techniques, the problem is reduced to that of solving two systems of singular integral equations. Systematic numerical calculations are carried out, and the variations of the stress and electric displacement intensity factors are plotted for various values of dimensionless parameters representing the crack size, the crack location and the material non-homogeneity.  相似文献

Elastostatic analysis of an antiplane crack in a functionally graded material (FGM) is performed by using a hypersingular boundary integral equation method (BIEM). An exponential law is applied to describe the spatial variation of the shear modulus of the FGM. A Galerkin method is applied for the numerical solution of the hypersingular traction BIE. Both unidirectional and bidirectional material gradations are investigated. Stress intensity factors for an infinite and linear elastic FGM containing a finite crack subjected to an antiplane crack-face loading are presented and discussed. The influences of the material gradients and the crack orientation on the stress intensity factors are analyzed.  相似文献

The static crack problem of a functionally graded coating-substrate structure with an internal or edge crack perpendicular to the interface is investigated under an in-plane load. The structure is made up of a functionally graded coating with an internal or edge crack and a homogeneous substrate of finite thickness. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously from the coating to the substrate. By use of Fourier transform method, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a singular integral equation which can be solved numerically. During the analysis, a higher-order term is obtained in the asymptotic analysis of the singular kernel to improve the convergence efficiency of numerical integrals. The influences of material constants and the geometry parameters on the stress intensity factors (SIFs) are studied. In Part II of this paper, the transient response of the structure subjected to an in-plane impact is investigated.  相似文献

Mixed-mode crack analysis in unidirectionally and bidirectionally functionally graded materials is performed by using a boundary integral equation method. To make the analysis tractable, the Young's modulus of the functionally graded materials is assumed to be exponentially dependent on spatial variables, while the Poisson's ratio is assumed to be constant. The corresponding boundary value problem is formulated as a set of hypersingular traction boundary integral equations, which are solved numerically by using a Galerkin method. The present method is especially suited for straight cracks in infinite FGMs. Numerical results for the elastostatic stress intensity factors are presented and discussed. Special attention of the analysis is devoted to investigate the effects of the material gradients and the crack orientation on the elastostatic stress intensity factors.  相似文献
