Wear phenomenon in the hard steel machining using ceramic tools   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The principle aim of this investigation is to recognize the wear phenomenon of the mixed ceramic tips against 60 HRC steel specimens in dry and hard turning operations. For this purpose both microscopic and microstructural aspects of ceramic tool wear were taken into consideration. Investigations were performed under varying feed rate, constant cutting speed of 100 m/min and small depth of cut of 0.2 mm to perform finishing cuts. Light optical microscopy (LOM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BSE technique and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRM) were applied for observations of worn tool surfaces, wear products and the distinction of wear mechanisms occurring. In general, wear mechanisms observed in the machining tests involve abrasion, fracture, plastic flow, material transfer and tribochemical effects which appear depending on the mechanical and thermal conditions generated on the wear zones. In particular, two types of transfer layer formation with different morphologies occurring at the rake-chip interface are distinguished.  相似文献

Some ceramic materials such as Al2O3 which have a high compressive strength, hardness and chemical stability came into use industrially in the middle of this century as powder metallurgy produced indexable cutting tool inserts. These early ceramic tools were inherently weak in tension, impact and dynamic loading owing to their low tensile strength, toughness and transverse rupture strength; because of this their application was limited to medium productivity operations and work materials of softer grades. However, the technology of ceramic cutting tools has made great strides in the last few years through substantial improvements in their strength, toughness and wear resistivity. These modern ceramic tools have found wide and economic applications in high production machining of both cast iron and steels.In this paper the constructional characteristics of some modern ceramic tools and their wear behaviour and overall performances in machining mild steel at both low and high speeds are presented. Evaluation of machining performance of STAVAX with PCBN tools   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
A study was undertaken to investigate the wear characteristics of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) cutting tools and surface integrity during machining of STAVAX (specialised stainless steel) with and without coolant. Plastic deformation and formation of overtempered martensite and white layer (untempered martensite) were the dominant subsurface and surface defects. It was found that decreasing the hardness of the STAVAX from 55 HRC to 40 HRC could result in fracture on the flank face, leading to a deterioration of the surface finish. It was observed that low CBN content tools (60%CBN/40%TiN) exhibited greater fracture resistance than high CBN content tools (85%CBN/15%TiN, 90%CBN/10%Co). Although coolant could not bring about a reduction in the flank wear, it was effective in reducing the subsurface and surface defects, and in preventing chipping of the tool edge, leading to an improved surface finish. A superior surface finish (Ra<0.3 m) was obtained with cutting fluid using a tool with a radius of 0.8 mm, depth of cut of 0.05 mm and feed rate of 0.05 mm/rev.  相似文献

We discussed a method for cutting smoothly polished single-crystal silicon surfaces by wire electrical discharge machining to obtain a high-quality surface. To cut out parts with smooth surfaces from the plates by rough-cutting in water while maintaining the initial smoothness of the surfaces, several kinds of masks were applied to the polished surfaces before cutting. It was found that although the application of resin masks is effective for obtaining smooth surfaces far from the cut section, the surface smoothness near the section cut in water is less than in the case of cutting in oil. Next, finish-cutting in oil was performed to remove cracks and chips generated by rough-cutting in oil. As a result, although a few chips were generated at edges of the cut section, cracks were successfully removed by finish-cutting, so that the surface quality was successfully improved by finish-cutting in oil.  相似文献

In this paper it was suggested the machining method that can improve machining accuracy and reduce the machining time applying the formed tools based on the rotor shape feature to finishing machining for efficient machining of asymmetric rotors. For machining the complicated asymmetric rotor profile, machining area is divided and formed tools are manufactured based on the rotor feature., and the efficient machining method of screw motor was proposed using the formed tools and four axis machining devices. With the suggested machining method, machining time could be reduced compared to the general end mill machining method, and the machining errors of the proposed method could be within the allowable tolerance of the product so as to carry out the precise machining.  相似文献

A concept of plastic electrode tools for electrochemical machining is investigated and applied to machining of c-Si. The electrode tools consist of a plastic body with an optimized electrical conductive coating. This concept allows for low cost electrodes which can be even realized by rapid prototyping techniques. The micro electrochemical machining of p-type silicon by these innovative metalized plastic electrode-tools is studied. The technological schemes of the machining and design of metalized plastic electrode-tools are developed. Theoretical investigation of thermal conditions and limitations of the electrode-tools during the machining process are performed. Based on these investigation, recommendations on the minimum thickness of the conductive layer of the electrode-tools from Cu, Ni and Pt are defined. Experimental optimization of the process parameters during the machining is performed and feasibility of the metalized plastic electrode-tools for micro electrochemical machining is demonstrated.  相似文献

Micro structures and components are widely used in modern industries, and micro machining has therefore become a popular research topic. As micro tools are essential in micro machining, wire electrochemical micro machining is introduced in the fabrication of micro tools in this paper, and micro square column tool arrays are fabricated using wire cathodes by two steps. In order to improve the machining efficiency and quality, an electrode vibration technique is used, and the effects of bubble behaviour on slit width homogeneity and edge radius are studied through simulations of the electric field. The influences of various machining parameters such as vibration conditions, electrical properties, electrolyte concentration and feedrate on the standard deviation of the slit width and on the value of the edge radius are investigated. In addition, the micro dimple array is fabricated using electrochemical micro machining by employing the micro square column tool array as the cathode.  相似文献

The experimental results have demonstrated that tools made from nitride ceramics have high efficiency in the high-speed machining of nickel-based AP741NP alloy. The wear of these tools proved to depend on the cutting modes, as well as the properties and structure of ceramics. Features of the wear of cutting tools from nitride ceramics are determined when machining nickel-based AP741NP alloy.  相似文献
